Opinion: Vote for 'Obesity Awareness'

Postby NationStates Times » Thu Oct 31, 2024 8:11 pm

A new opinion piece is out: Vote for 'Obesity Awareness'

Note: You can see the full article with full links, formatting and more at The NationStates Times Website.

Opinion: Vote for 'Obesity Awareness'

By Saint Asperes & Tinhampton
1st November 2024

Note: This op-ed was written by the co-authors of the WA proposal 'Obesity Awareness'. You can view the text of the proposal here.

OPINION: It is crucial to emphasize, especially for those unaware, that this proposal is aimed at bringing much-needed attention to the growing issue of obesity.

Why should you vote/(support) in favor?

- Public Health Crisis: Obesity is a growing epidemic with severe health implicaitons. By supporing this proposal, you will be endorsing proactive measures that will prevent the escalation of these life-threatening diseases.
- Long-Term Economic Benefits: Healthier citizens lead to lower healthcare costs adn a more productive workforce, fostering prosperity and stability in every member state.
- Collaborative Research & Awareness: The proposal encourages nations to work together, sharing valuable research and data on effective publich health interventions. Through collaboration, we can pinpoint successful strategies and avoid the mistakes of the past.
- Transparency & Publich Trust: Requiring clear labeling of ingredients and nutrition facts ensures citizens are informed about what they consume, reducing misinformation and boosting trust in public health efforts.

Saint Asperes' Personal Statement:
This proposal is to ensure that citizens within each member state experience healthy and meaningful lives, free from the burded of preventable health issues such as obesity. It raises a significant concern when we witness our friends, family and neighbors facing health challenges that could easily be avoided. Why should we stand by and let those we care about endure these struggles when there are ways to help them lead healthier lives? In my opinion that's cruel.

'Obesity Awareness' focuses on providing our citizens with the best possible opportunity for a healthy future. We have a once in a lifetime opportunity (no pun intended) to take action and make positive changes that can greatly enhance people's lives, so we shouldn't just sit back and do nothing. It is no longer possible for us to overlook this urgent issue. By backing this proposal, you are advocating for a thorough strategy to address the problem of obesity effectively (collaborative research, publich trust and incresed life expectancy and more!)

Let's get this done.

Ultimately, supporting this proposal is about prioritizing the well-being of your citizens and committing to a healthier, more prosperous future. I humbly recommend all Delegates to SUPPORT/(VOTE FOR) Obesity Awareness.

Editor's note: Only minor grammatical and formating edits were made to this op-ed. The views reflect those of the authors and not necessarily those of The NationStates Times. Edited by Ecclestia.

The use of AI in this article is disturbing to me, especially when there are plenty of talented artists on NationStates. You might want to consider collaborating with an existing community on this site before you offsource to AI.

I personally don’t use much art in my factbooks because it is difficult to find someone to do it and/or do it yourself. However, if you plan to make this news thing long-term, you could probably find some people willing to draw stuff for it. I would recommend looking in the Arts & Fiction forum.

Said article also has a typo — says ChapGPT where it should say ChatGPT. There’s a few missing commas in your “About Z-Day” section, but that’s really minor imo.

Nice to see a new news outlet growing and I wish you all the best! I do have to agree with the anti-ai sentiment, as I feel it detracts from the cooperative possibilities with other NSers who are very, very talented. There's so much untapped potential across the site to take advantage of that will help make the best news outlet ever! :D

I actually didn't have any part in the Obesity Awareness article, nor did I even know it was being written until Saint Asperes told me it had been published, but I endorse its argument.

People sure are ready for a post-human world where computer programs take over all jobs, making up what things look like and telling you what to think about them.

What's the point of posting such articles? Where is the gameplay if your role in the operation is limited to copying and pasting?

After seeing someone using an AI detector tool again, I decided to do what I did the last time Gameplay relied on one of them, and do the AI Detector Gauntlet! The AI Detector Gauntlet involves taking the top 10 results on Google for "AI Detector" and running the text through each one of them. Here are the results from running the article through it!

1. Entire text is human written.
2. 88% of the text is AI-generated. The human portion is in the middle.
3. The entire text is AI-generated.
4. Only 2% of the text is AI-generated, the rest is human-written.
5. Entire text is human written.
6. 92% probability that the text is AI-generated.
7. 88% of the text is AI-generated. The human portion is in the middle.
8. 44% of the text is AI-generated. A free user cannot check which part is human.
9. The text is too long for a free user to check.
10. Entire text is human written.

Just like in April, these things are a crapshoot. =P

The text at the bottom of the z day image is warped and north america is gone from the top left of the image map of the world on the obesity awareness issue.

I want this project to succeed, this is just sad. :(
