[Q] Regarding music thread

I have a question regarding this thread.

In an earlier moderation post, United Calanworie said this regarding the positioning of an earlier iteration of the thread:

If the same thread was made but the OP encouraged posters to discuss their music, would it be acceptable?

Yes! That would be fine. If you're having a discussion about the music, it can stay in A&F. If it's nothing more than my Spotify queue being posted to a thread, it goes to F7.

Looking at the current iteration of the thread, after the above statement was posted, it doesn't seem like much discussion about the music is going on, and that most people are just describing the songs they post, usually doing as little as posting the year of release and genre, especially towards more recent pages. Would this be grounds for the thread to be moved to F7, or would it be worth a mod gently reminding people to discuss the music on the thread instead of just listing songs?

You misunderstand, those threads were moved to F7 so that they would be autopruned.

Those threads amount to, literally, over 237,000 posts that have little lasting value. That's a vast amount of storage being used to preserve something that will never be seen again. It's not like someone is going to say, "hey what was post 168,284 on page 306 of volume 14 of this thread? Man that was a BOP." you know? They're just not that memorable or considered.

Like United Calanworie said in the quote of this OP, the purpose of threads in A&F is for discussion. Discussion to our eyes is not taking place in these threads because they're almost always just posting a track and moving on. This activity is not disallowed, but it's more like an F7 posting game than a conversation, so that's why those threads were relocated the other day.

And why I have relocated the current volume there just now.

As far as I recall, inactive threads are autopruned after a week.

So they’re no longer going to be in the Arts and Fiction forum? That’s a shame. I was beefing up my posts to include the name of the album, genre, and year of release so that it would be kept there, but I can understand why you moved it. There was consensus about it remaining there earlier however.

Additionally, I was adding information about the songs to which I was listening. I was giving information about them, what album they were from, what genre they were, and the year in which they were released. I will miss these threads when they get pruned, because I like to look back and see which songs I was listening to at a certain time.
