What we are Looking For
Earlier this year we added to our Technical team to address a lack of frontend development staff. This is round two of recruitment this year, now focused on database administration.
NationStates has very large amounts of data stored in MySQL, and a high rate of queries. This is an opportunity for a tech person to be involved a high level with all of the decision-making and administration involved in using data at scale, from table schema design and query optimization to backup and disaster recovery. You would begin as a Technical Moderator, with a pathway to rise to full Admin.
If the challenge of rebuilding database tables after a crash makes you feel warm and fuzzy inside, or you love optimizing the tiniest queries to squeeze nanoseconds worth of performance out of a server, you might have what it takes!
We're looking for somebody with significant expertise with databases, especially MySQL. Any knowledge of or ability to pick up some Perl is a plus. And if you have other skills you can contribute, great! Feel free to send in an application!

What's the deadline for applying?
There is no particular deadline for applications - when we are no longer looking, this announcement will be taken down.
How many people are you looking for?
We do not have a target for a number of people to take on - it depends on the applications that come through. The end result could be no-one is brought on board, or multiple people are.
I have some blemishes on my Moderation record. Can I still apply?
Yes. This is considered as part of the Moderator team review, and we consider the "whole person," not isolated instances of misbehavior alone.
I've heard you all use Discord to communicate. I don't have it, can I still apply?
No. The team utilizes Discord extensively in day-to-day communication, and it is critical that new technical moderators have access to the rest of the team while learning the codebase.

Haven't really been playing since then, because losing ~2 years of progress was too much of a hit for me and decimated my interest in this otherwise wonderful game.
