Status of Indigenous peoples in YN
Section I: Basic Information
Name of YN including pretitle: The State of Hispaniola

IC population: 55.7 million as of 2024

How many native citizens are there in YN? There is currently 5.1 million Hispaniolans who are recognized as Indigenous, belonging to the Maujii peoples

Section II: Treatment
Have your native citizens been repressed? Yes, historically the Maujii people suffered from genocide, ethnic cleansing, political and religious persecution, and discrimination in the past, including being forbidden from speaking their own languages, practicing their own religion, and being forcibly "Hispaniolized" by the government.

Do native citizens have adequate resources, such as education, health, and welfare? For the most part no, although this has been gradually getting redressed in the past several decades

Are native citizens protected from discrimination? No

Are native citizens allowed to speak their language and practice their religion? From the period of 1935 - 1972 they were forbidden from doing either, however in 1972 these restrictions were lifted

Are native citizens in YN allowed to run for office?

May native peoples acquire citizenship in YN?

May native peoples enlist in the army? Maujii peoples have had a long history of service in the Hispaniolan armed forces, having historically served as scouts and mercenaries. They also had a tendency to lend their assistance to one side or another in the many internal conflicts of Hispaniola, which would give them a reputation as being fierce warriors. They also have a strong tradition of self defense forces amongst their peoples on account of the varying governments in turn seeing the Maujii as a threat, leading to repression and discrimination.

Is there education about the native peoples of YN? For the most part the Hispaniolan education system largely ignores Indigenous history, instead emphasizing the unity of the country.

Section III: Culture

How many native languages are there? There are 9 distinct languages of the Maujii, corresponding to the 9 major tribes that make up the Maujii peoples.

List a prominent native language (optional) The most prominent language is Iru, spoken by the Irunare people and popularized amongst the Maujii due to them being the largest and most diplomatic of the 9 tribes, historically being the ones to found the Maujii Confederacy.

How many native cultures are there? there are 9 different Tribes that make up the Maujii people, with each tribe being made up of a number of clans.

List a prominent native culture (optional) The 9 tribes are as follows: the Irunare, Aradan, Kwache, Hidan, Meskpache, Ojikee, Dinche, Kwatan, and Hihute

Are native cultural sites protected? Largely no, although this has been changing in recent years

Are native cultural symbols (eg. totem poles) allowed? Yes, they are largely limited to the Autonomous Region of the Maujii

If yes, are they widespread? No

Section IV: OOC

Are you satisfied with this survey?

Do you have any suggestions to improve the survey?

Would you like your results to be put in a factbook? Yes

Indigenous non-Thermodolians make up 1% of the population or about 21,053,452. This means that indigenous Thermodolians (ethnic Thermodolians) make up roughly 74.5% of the population or 1.568 Billion

Do native citizens have adequate resources, such as education, health, and welfare?
Yes

Are native citizens protected from discrimination?
Yes.

Are native citizens allowed to speak their language and practice their religion?
That depends highly on the province the Non-Thermodolian indigenous reside in. As for religions that depends entirely on the religion as certain religions are banned for cult like behavior and rituals.

Are native citizens in YN allowed to run for office?

May native peoples acquire citizenship in YN?
Yes

Yes

Is there education about the native peoples of YN?

Thermodolian.

The most prominent non thermodolian language that’s also indigenous is Norga which has roughly 12,000 speakers.

How many native cultures are there?
The federal government doesn’t keep such records and as a result only one culture is officially recognized, that being Thermodolian.

Unofficial records estimate that there’s about 20 to 30 cultures in Thermodolia.

List a prominent native culture (optional)
Thermodolian culture.

Are native cultural sites protected?
Yes

Are native cultural symbols (eg. totem poles) allowed?
Depends on the symbol.

If yes, are they widespread?
Depends on the province

Section IV: OOC

Are you satisfied with this survey?
Yeh

Do you have any suggestions to improve the survey?
Maybe having a section for those nations where there’s two or more indigenous groups and one of those groups is in the majority or a section for those countries that have indigenous groups in the majority

Would you like your results to be put in a factbook?

Nope. Our policy is not to oppress the natives even before Sarawak Darulhana was established, during the administration of the State of Sarawak, they practiced the policy of Dayak supremacy and oppressed the Malays and Melanaus and because of that, Sarawak was divided into two, Sarawak Darulhana and Dayak People's Republic of Sarawak(DPRS).During the establishment of Sarawak Darulhana, the current early administration had promised not to make tyranny and oppression based on race during the era of State of Sarawak as the main policy in administration.

Do native citizens have adequate resources, such as education, health, and welfare?
Yes. even the Ministry of National Education also introduced their ethnic language education syllabus to preserve their language as their mother tongue alongside Malay and English as Intermediate language and also business language. The Sarawak Darulhana government also introduced assistance of $520 a month for indigenous people with low incomes below $4100 and also established the Bumiputera National Share Trust (ASNB)for the benefit of the natives

This was not a singular conflict, but rather the overall term for wars between the Nzardom and indigenous polities that occurred intermittently between 1607 and 1835. Until 1783, the official policy practiced by the Nzardom was that of deliberate extermination of any 'savages' - if they refused to assimilate into the Anglo culture of the Nzardom of Gandoor, then they would be killed. This policy of extermination ended under Nzarina Rebecca I, although she still continued the policy that the natives must abandon their traditional lifestyles and be assimilated into the Anglo-Gandoorese culture.

Even following the end of the Gandoor-Native Wars in 1835 (which came with the signing of the Treaty of Rulookia, in which the Nzardom of Gandoor recognized the independence of the Kingdom of Ganbano - the only indigenous polity which they ever recognized as an independent nation), the Nzardom (which at this point had completely conquered the entirety of the Gandoorese mainland, the only future Gandoorese territory that was not under their control was the territory of the Kingdom of Ganbano) continued to practice the forced assimilation of Native Gandoorese into the Anglo-Gandoorese culture. Indigenous youth were made to attend Anglo Schools (effectively the Gandoorese equivalent to American Indian boarding schools), where they were forced to take and use an Anglo-Gandoorese name instead of their indigenous name, required to only speak English (with corporal punishment being common for even speaking a single word of their native language), and indoctrinated into the Protestant Church of Gandoor, the state church of the Nzardom. For all Native Gandoorese, the usage of their native languages in publications (newspapers, advertisements, books, etc.) was forbidden, as was the public practice of their religious or cultural beliefs.

Some even proposed a policy in which an assimilated Native Gandoorese would be made to marry a white Gandoorese and then their children would also marry white Gandoorese and so on 'until the native had been bred out'. This policy was rejected as the 'official' reasoning for forcing indigenous Gandoorese to assimilate was not to exterminate them as a people but 'to lift them from their uncivilized and savage lifestyles and make them a shining goal for all natives and savages around the world'.

The sole exception to these forced assimilation policies would be the Ganba, who were explicitly granted the right to continue to speak their language, practice their religion, and protect their culture upon the dissolution of the Kingdom of Ganbano in 1886 and its replacement with the partially self-governing Descar Territory.

This policy of forced assimilation would last until the end of the Nzardom at the start of the 20th century.

In modern Gandoor, both the Gandoor-Native Wars and the forced assimilation of Native Gandoorese into the Anglo-Gandoorese culture is referred to as the Native Gandoorese genocide - a term which was coined by Penki historian Adam Miwaywi as the title for his 1959 book On the Native Gandoorese Genocide and the Attempted Extermination of the Indigenous People of Gandoor. The term spread from Native Gandoorese historians and scholars to non-Native scholars and historians during the 1960s and knowledge and usage of the term 'genocide' to refer to this era of Gandoorese history began to spread to the wider public during the 1970s and 1980s. By the early 1990s, it had become the dominant terminology and replaced older terminology such as 'Extermination of the Native Gandoorese' (which was the most common terminology before 'Native Gandoorese genocide'), Native Gandoorese killings', and 'destruction of the Indigenous'.

Do native citizens have adequate resources, such as education, health, and welfare? Yes. Native Gandoorese are provided the same resources as non-Native Gandoorese and Government policy is to ensure that this holds true even in Native-majority areas (we are aware that in many other colonized nations, Native-majority communities tend to suffer).

Are native citizens protected from discrimination? Yes, anti-discrimination laws are in place that protect Native Gandoorese from all forms of discrimination.

Are native citizens allowed to speak their language and practice their religion? Yes. While no indigenous languages are recognized as official languages of the Democratic Republic, they are all designated as protected languages and their continued usage is considered an important part of maintaining Native Gandoorese cultures and heritage. They are also taught in schools with a high percentage of Native Gandoorese students.

Similarly, the right for Native Gandoorese to practice their religions is also protected - both as part of the general freedom of religion and specifically under laws designed to protect indigenous culture.

Rather interestingly, despite Native Gandoorese making up only 1.8% of the population (using the 2025 census data), 5.9% of the population are followers of Native Gandoorese religions.

Are native citizens in YN allowed to run for office? Yes.

May native peoples acquire citizenship in YN? All Native Gandoorese have unconditionally been granted citizenship since the Citizenship Act 1903 went into force on 1 March 1903. Under the terms of the act, all non-citizens born in Gandoor (or what is now Gandoorese territory) on or before that date was henceforth granted Gandoorese citizenship and was retroactively considered to have been a citizen from birth.

Prior to the Citizenship Act, the Ganba had unconditionally been granted citizenship in 1886 (as part of the treaties that saw the Kingdom of Ganbano become the Descar Territory) and individual Native persons could be granted citizenship on a case-by-case basis if they were fully assimilated into the Anglo-Gandoorese culture.

May native peoples enlist in the army? Yes, as Native Gandoorese are citizens and all citizens may enlist in the National Military.

Is there education about the native peoples of YN? Yes, education about the indigenous peoples of Gandoor (both current and historical groups) is taught in the Gandoorese educational system, both as a topic covered in Gandoorese history classes and in classes specifically about the Native Gandoorese.

Section III: Culture

How many native languages are there? Depending on how you classify them (separate languages in the same language family vs dialects of the same language), it is estimated that there are between 20 and 50 native languages spoken in modern Gandoor

List a prominent native language (optional) Ganba, the language of the Ganba people and the most widely spoken native language in modern Gandoor.

How many native cultures are there? It is sometimes stated that there are five indigenous cultures (sometimes referred to as 'The Original Five Peoples', however that just refers to the five major indigenous ethnolinguistic groups that existed at the start of European settlements in the mid-16th century. There were (and still are) native Gandoorse that existed outside of these five major groupings and, in modern Gandoor, there are about ~27 distinct native cultures that exist.
List a prominent native culture (optional) The Jaknak

Are native cultural sites protected? Yes.

Are native cultural symbols (eg. totem poles) allowed? Yes

If yes, are they widespread? Considering the small percentage of Native Gandoorese, no.

Section IV: OOC

Are you satisfied with this survey? Yes.

Do you have any suggestions to improve the survey? A section for questions concerning non-Native interactions with and views on Native people would be interesting.

Would you like your results to be put in a factbook? Yes.

Status of Indigenous peoples in YN
Section I: Basic Information
Name of YN including pretitle: The Empire of Aikoland

IC population: 5.6 million (2015 census), 6.2 million (2024 estimate)

How many native citizens are there in YN? Over 85% of the population are native Aikolandais.

Section II: Treatment
Have your native citizens been repressed? Only during the four years of Axis occupation during World War II from 1940 until 1944, where we were occupied and governed as part of Vichy France. During these four years, all Aikolandais symbols were banned as was the very notion of a separate Aikolandais identity was suppressed, with Aikolandais forced to identify as and consider themselves to be French.

Do native citizens have adequate resources, such as education, health, and welfare? Considering that native Aikolandais make up the majority of the population, yes.

Are native citizens protected from discrimination? Considering that native Aikolandais make up the majority of the population, yes.

Are native citizens allowed to speak their language and practice their religion? Again - native Aikolandais make up the majority of the population, both the official language spoken by them and their native languages are allowed to spoken.

To explain further: the three Romance languages that are native to Aikoland were displaced by French and rendered functionally extinct by the mid to late-19th century. In modern Aikoland, French is the sole official language and the mother tongue of all native Aikolandais. However, government-backed revival movements for the three native Romance languages began in the early 20th century and were granted special status and recognition as 'native minority languages' via an Act of Parliament in 1951, with the three languages being granted the right to be displayed on equal status with the French language. (In modern Aikoland, it is estimated that anywhere from 4500 to 10,000 people can speak any of the three native Romance languages)

As far as religion goes, the freedom of religion has been constitutionally enshrined since the first Constitution in 1794, however there exist no native religious beliefs anymore as both the pre-Roman and pre-Christian religions were rendered extinct long before modern Aikoland even existed (some small revivalist movements do exist however, but the majority of native Aikolandais are Roman Catholics)

Are native citizens in YN allowed to run for office? Again - they are the majority of the population, so of course.

May native peoples acquire citizenship in YN? To repeat once again - native Aikolandais are the majority of the population and make up the majority of citizens.

May native peoples enlist in the army? YES.

Is there education about the native peoples of YN? Once more - native Aikolandais are the majority of the population of Aikoland, not teaching about them would be like our neighbours to the north (France) not teaching about French people in school.

Section III: Culture

How many native languages are there? There exist three native Romance languages in Aikoland: Aikoais, Saunian, and Boullién.

List a prominent native language (optional) None of them are prominent anymore, even with the revival movement.

How many native cultures are there? There exist three native ethnic and cultural groups in Aikoland, as we have stated many times - they make up the majority of the population of Aikoland

List a prominent native culture (optional) THEY ALL ARE. THEY ARE THE MAJORITY POPULATION OF AIKOLAND. While there is debate over whether or not the three separate indigenous ethnic groups still exist or if they have merged into a singular Aikolandais ethnicity over the centuries, they still make up the majority of the population.

Are native cultural sites protected? They don't need to be 'protected', native cultural sites are Aikolandais cultural sites.

Are native cultural symbols (eg. totem poles) allowed? AGAIN - THEY ARE JUST AIKOLANDAIS CULTURAL SYMBOLS.

If yes, are they widespread? THEY ARE JUST AIKOLANDAIS CULTURAL SYMBOLS, OF COURSE THEY ARE WIDESPREAD.

Section IV: OOC

Are you satisfied with this survey? I guess

Do you have any suggestions to improve the survey? There should be separate questions for nations where the majority of the population are native (like how Aikoland is) and nations that were colonized and the indigenous population are now a minority. Many of the questions make no sense when talking about an indigenous majority nation (hence why I jokingly started getting frustrated with the questions).

Would you like your results to be put in a factbook? Yeah.

Status of Indigenous/Native/Aboriginal peoples in Pakania

Postby Pakania » Wed Nov 13, 2024 8:35 pm

Since The Pakanian Expansion, Pakania has incorporated the Indigenous groups of the Guna (50,000), Emberá (51,657), and Wounaan (6,000). They account for 4.87% of the total population.

Status of Indigenous peoples in Pakania
Section I: Basic Information
Name of country including pretitle:
Republic of Pakania

IC population:
2,209,304.

How many native citizens are there in Pakania?
107,657.

Section II: Treatment
Have your native citizens been repressed?
No, the Pakanian government actually prioritized them after the Pakanian-Panamanian war.
Both parties of Pakania, El Partido Progressivo de Pakania and La Comunidad Seguridad de Pakania, along with Pakania's National Committee of Rebuilding and Architecture, went to Guna, Emberá, and Wounaan groups across the nation to find out what they would like to see for their communities and how the government can help. They expressed that they wanted to prioritize them first as a way to have overly friendly interactions.

Pakania has expressed that they were more than happy to preserve the comarca indígenas of Guna Yala and Emberá/Emberá-Wounaan as official provinces in Pakania, and the corregimiento (or municipality) of Guna de Madugandí and Guna de Wargandí. Since then, Pakania now recognizes two Indigenous provinces as its own and the two municipalities as distinct territories.
The capital of the province of Guna Yala is El Porvenir and the capital of the province of Emberá is Unión Chocó.
The capital of the municipality of Guna de Madugandí is Akua Yala and the capital of the municipality of Guna de Wargandí is Mortí.

Do native citizens have adequate resources, such as education, health, and welfare?
The Pakanian government, expanding on the above, has offered to finance and work with both Indigenous and Pakanian people to build homes that have clean water, electricity and air-conditioning (if wanted). It also encouraged the Indigenous groups to tell them if they'd like other things implemented, such as active bus stops, schools, playgrounds, libraries, cultural sites & buildings, mental health and emergency services.
Result: Some communities said they would like to have these, others said that they would rather preserve the environment around them.

For this, the Pakanian government promised to build clear and functional roads that are not invasive to the environment so that they can have access to the highway and freedom to go anywhere within the nation. This wasn't only for communities that rejected some of these services, but all communities.
Result: The roads are complete and there are active bus routes available.

The Pakanian government has highlighted the necessity that the Indigenous people decide how they want their homes to look in order to preserve their culture. Pakania's National Committee of Rebuilding and Architecture now works with Indigenous communities to build homes to their preference. Additionally, the government emplored to help the communities facing the threat of climate change on the islands separated from the mainland. As Pakania is a nation that understands all too well the need to move due to the threat, Pakania wishes to help those communities actively facing this challenge.
Result: Indigenous communities of Guna, Emberá, and Wounaan have homes that reflect their culture, communities safe on the mainland, and can freely participate within the nation. Some communities have all government-offered services while others have some.

Are native citizens protected from discrimination?
Yes, absolutely. Pakania, despite not being in the United Nations, has recognized the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) and incorporated it into law. Pakanians are not allowed to discriminate in the first place but special attention was given to Indigenous peoples. They are to be highly respected as the first communities on the land.
The Pakanian government educates the people on the Indigenous groups that live in the nation, recognizing their importance and culture. (More on this below).

Are native citizens allowed to speak their language and practice their religion?
Yes, Pakania encourages them to practice their cultural customs and has recognized the languages Buglere, Emberá/Chocó, Noanamá, and Kuna, though there are many more that exist.
Pakania allows the practice of the religion of Ibeorgun (from the Guna). Pakania is a country that separates religion from the state and, therefore, has no official religion.

Are native citizens in Pakania allowed to run for office?
Yes, they are more than welcome to if they have Pakanian citizenship, same as any other Pakanian citizen. They, like Pakanians, must be of the age 25 years old, however.

May native peoples acquire citizenship in Pakania?
Yes, they are most encouraged to do so in order to be able to move freely within the nation and have the ability to vote and access citizen services. Unlike nationality, all driver's licenses need to be renewed. However, unlike other non-Pakanians, they have the inherent right to their land/province and can enjoy owning property, having full access to healthcare, right to live, work, invest, study, and retire permanently or without limit, regardless of Pakanian nationality. Without Pakanian nationality, however, they cannot vote or work in certain professions nor can they work in federal positions (politician).
Because the government wants Indigenous people to be represented and have equal rights, them attaining citizenship is very important. The process of gaining Pakanian citizenship for Indigenous communities was easy: they were automatically already considered Pakanian citizens and were able to gain a passport, ID and healthcare.

However, this was later repealed by La Comunidad Seguridad de Pakania shortly after the Fabaks attempted invasion (which was a year after the Pakanian-Panamanian war ended). It has not been reimplemented by the current party, El Partido Progressivo de Pakania.
The reason why it was first repealed was that previous Presidenta Víolet de Armacielo wanted Indigenous people to have equal rights as Pakanians...that is, you earn your citizenship; it's not a birthright. (This did not affect the population that acquired citizenship, only those who didn't have it at the time this was repealed).
Now, Indigenous people can earn citizenship on the condition they have done the mandatory 2 to 4 years of military service like the rest of Pakanians. Indigenous youth, however, may acquire citizenship upon graduating high school (though military service is still mandatory).

May native peoples enlist in the army?
Yes, it is mandatory for all people to do military service for 4 years (split in two years).

Is there education about the native peoples of Pakania?
Yes, there is and it's mandatory to teach it (along with the rest of history). Additionally, children are brought to communities so that they can witness firsthand how they live (with an agreement with the communities, of course. They can also withdraw or refuse visits from schools without explaining and at any time, as long as schools are notified in advance).
Additionally, all people living in Pakania (regardless of nationality or any other discriminating factor, etc) need to go to school.
Pakanians are taught the history and cultures of the Guna people, the Emberá people, and the Wounaan people. Additionally, tribe members can visit and share stories with youth or teach words in their language (mostly done in elementary schools to school children). In high school/middle school, 3 Indigenous languages courses are available in Pakania, like how there are English courses and Portuguese courses. (English starts to be taught in elementary schools, however, and French is also only available depending on the high school). If the communities allow this, kids can participate in the cultures as if they were their own.
The government and education system work and collaborate with Indigenous peoples regarding how their culture is taught and shared.

Section III: Culture
How many native languages are there?
There are 4 that are recognized, though Buglere speakers are mostly in Panama. Additionally, there exist many more languages that are spoken by different groups and even the same groups.

List a prominent native language (optional):
- Buglere (17,731 speakers in Pakania and Panama).
- Emberá/Chocó (22,485 speakers in Pakania and Colombia).
- Noanamá (10,000 speakers in Pakania and Colombia).
- Kuna (61,000 speakers in Pakania, Panama and Colombia).

How many native cultures are there?
There are 3 Indigenous tribes in Pakania, the Guna, Emberá and Wounaan.

List a prominent native culture (optional):
Guna, Emberá and Wounaan.

Are native cultural sites protected?
Yes, they are. In order to exercise this right, Indigenous peoples additionally have a right to govern their own province under the agreement of interacting with Pakania and its government.
Pakania actively works to incorporate her Indigenous people within Pakanian events, festivals and celebrations of culture.
In fact, (most notably), some of Pakania's designs regarding papel picado worn on Pakanians' waist and wrists during cultural celebrations, have the Guna's traditional symbols of Mola on them.
Indigenous people are deeply encouraged and cheered to participate in Pakanian events and also share their culture with Pakanians. For example, retailers work with them to make traditional Pakanian ponchos that reflect Indigenous designs for Indigenous Pakanians, showing a wonderful collaboration of two cultures. The people are invited to celebrate in their style in events. For example, their cultural and traditional dances and musical instruments. They also help with the theme of the festivals during national celebrations, such as artwork and clothes.

A most prestigious policy was declared on September 13th, following the win of El Partido Progressivo de Pakania on October 28 (almost a year). [More of this on Fact 2. below].
On this day, the Pakanian government expressed its desire to be endorsed by Indigenous tribes in Pakania whenever presidents are elected. This is similar to what Mexico does in its country. It was made into official policy that, before being able to govern, endorsement and acceptance by tribal leaders must have come forward first. This is a way to nationalize Indigenous communities within Pakania.
The flags of the Indigenous communities fly alongside Pakania's on every government building in the country.

Are native cultural symbols (eg. totem poles) allowed?
Yes, very much so. In fact, it is encouraged as long as Pakanian themes somewhat remain (if outside the comarca indígenas).

If yes, are they widespread?
Yes, see above.

Fun facts:
1. Pakania's capital city, Terarequí, was named after the Indigenous tribe that first inhabited Archipiélago de las Perlas. This was back before The Pakanian Expansion.
2. September 13th marks "Día de las Comunidades Indígenas de Pakania (Guna, Emberá, y Wounaan)"...or otherwise, in English, called "Indigenous Communities of Pakania Day (Guna, Emberá, and Wounaan)". September 13th was chosen to commemorate the day UNDRIP was adopted by the United Nations. On September 13th, festivals are held for Indigenous people to partake in and show their cultures and talent throughout the country and the capital. Pakanian children are encouraged, with permission from the communities, to take part in Indigenous cultures as if it were their own.
3. To this day, Pakania and her Indigenous communities, work peacefully and harmoniously together, with Pakanians always readily inviting them to celebrations and cheering them on.
4. Similar to Panama's previous verdict, Pakania leaves them alone without much interference to their provinces. In return, the communities have given consent to have surveillance cameras on the condition that they have access to them as well. Pakania full-heartedly agreed.
5. Recently, the communities have allowed Pakanian law to jurisdiction and be present in the provinces of Guna Yala and Emberá/Emberá-Wounaan but they are the ones to enforce them. Pakania excitedly accepted this. Furthermore, if need be, they are welcome to request backup and support from the rest of the country.

Section IV: OOC
Are you satisfied with this survey?
Yes!

Do you have any suggestions to improve the survey?
Nope.

Would you like your results to be put in a factbook?
Yes!
