Worse than Katrina??

Recently, my county/city of Greenville (SC) was hit by Helene and was followed up by a major power outage, my city only received a few snapped trees and power lines and very few fatalities, however some others had it worse in particular Western North Carolina, especially Asheville, over half of Asheville was flooded, people hoping that they at least see their missing loved ones' bodies, entire houses taken from the ground and floating downstream. The flood waters were to be said to thick and have a very strong current. 95% of SC's upstate and Western NC without power and internet, not to mention Greenville County had to establish a burn ban. I think this loss across the southeast is terrible and even worse than Katrina, do you agree?

Absolutely not. It's been worse than usual, but Katrina was in another league. 64 people are confirmed dead from Helene right now. For Katrina? Final count was almost 2,000.

Helene has been terrible, i say this as a western NC resident myself. But Katrina was definitely still worse.

Im sorry but like, katrina was slow which made it so dangerous, this hurricane is just a teeny weeny bit stronger than ur average, nothing impressive

I'm not in Ashville so I avoided the flooding, but I am still without power because of it, and am relying on a gas-powered generator.

Edit: Power just came on a few minutes ago, lol.

It is worse than usual, including hitting my area with more ferocity than many anticipated, but no, I don't think it is worse than Katrina.

Absolutely not. Katrina was a nightmare. When I lived in Florida, every time we had a hurricane and it was brought up in conversation, someone told a story about something they experienced during Katrina. It's like Florida's 9/11.

I would say the government response to Katrina was drastically better in comparison to the government's response to Helene. The only thing that actually got them up and moving for Helene was when it was revealed that Patriot Front of all groups was helping in immediate response.

I wouldn't compare it to Katrina. I would compare it to Camille or the 1940 South Carolina Hurricane, if anything. The precursor rain event doesn't have terribly much precedent, but the Biblical amounts of water rained down on the mountains and exceptional flooding that resulted absolutely does have a predecessor in those two storms.
