The Connection

Crime is not something that is disorganized, not really. True, while the random killer and the opportunist mugger may not answer to a higher lord… even a lowly gangbanger has a boss. And that boss might owe kickback to a larger family. Up and up the chain. It’s almost feudal in its simplicity, but it is a system that has kept the Shadow Brokers of the underworld alive and thriving. Still, even with that almost governmental level of control, no successful governing body of syndicates has been implanted. Sure, there have been attempts, but they have either devolved into seperate syndicates or have been rendered fangless. It is special, this Thing of Ours. If it is to survive, it must adapt. Strengthen. Form… connections with other likeminded groups. Unify. The Connection will form the vanguard of a new underworld. One that can take on the forces of the law and win. Welcome… to the Connection.

Member Organizations of The Connection

Houses of Volkovograd (Volkov Brood, Santiago Cartel, NOMAD MC, Shah Raiders, Montero Syndicate, !c0gn!t0)

The Central

SOMBRA

Assassins League

1: The Connection will serve as an oversight committee for member organizations, with all members getting an equal vote in its affairs
2:Organizations within the Connection will work together in order to establish and maintain a hold on the criminal underworld.
3:member organizations will be left to their own devices within their territories and will be able to run them as they see fit.
4: Disputes between member organizations will be handled by a tribunal composed of trusted neutral representatives.
5:Directives of the Connection require a majority vote by members, and must be followed by members.
6: there will be peace between Organizations in the Connection, however if any organization betrays the Connection then any organization is entitled to seek recompense upon them.
7: a 5% kickback from all Member organizations will be forwarded to the Connection in order to provide for its management, staff, and sub organizations.
8: other than the aforementioned rules, all member organizations are entitled to act and run themselves however they see fit.

OOC Fun: Heya! In my time in Nationstates, I have found a disappointing lack of criminal based RPs and threads. A change of pace from the endless civil wars feels like it would be a breath of fresh air, and thus I have formed the Connection. It will serve as a sort of organizing group for future crime based RPs, and as an alliance equivalent for nongovernmental groups in your nations. So, with that in mind… are you prepared to protect this Thing of Ours?

Please be Civil in OOC threads. Characters arguing is fun, players endlessly quarreling isn’t.
Follow all site rules, naturally.
No Godmodding. I know everyone wants their mafia to be the best one with unlimited funds, but such isn’t realistic.
This organization will only accept criminal and terrorist organizations, not governments (unless said government is a criminal organization)
Put the words ‘bratva’ in your app under other details to prove you read the rules
No flaming in the OOC thread
OP’s word is law
This… is more of a suggestion, but this organization will live and die based on crime based RPs, so as members please be willing to start some.
And have fun!

Castle Valefar, Duchy Volkov, Volkovograd

Crime does pay, at least as far as the Volkov family is concerned. At the head of a vast criminal enterprise, the Volkovs have established many boltholes and strongholds over the years, some more luxuriant than others. Castle Valefar was one such criminal fortress. Its antique stonework construction and tasteful baroque furnishings were deceptively beautiful, hiding the savage mob the Volkovs called a court. The stalwart halls and rooms were decorated with stolen antiquities and hunting trophies, with many extinct and dangerous species being displayed prominently. The keep overlooked a large coca field, looming over the serfs and peasants that labored tirelessly under the cruel eyes of the Volkov’s. It was a perfect place to host the Connection. A contrast of the glorious opulence of the successful criminal, and the wretched poverty of those that didn’t go the distance. And so it was that Lady Eris Volkova sat in the oak paneled council chambers, tapping her fingers impatiently as she waited for the representatives of other criminal familes. A roaring fireplace lit the room, and archaic weapons and animal pelts adorned its walls. The seats were plush and comfortable, and the room was almost… inviting. All a play to make the new representatives comfortable, of course. More amenable. Still, all that politicking would have to wait. Until the first of many others arrived…

The door slowly swings open and Mr Whitlock walks in. He is stands at 5'11 and he wears loose black clothes that allow a far range of motion, it is the perfect clothes for an assassin. He wears a belt with a hunting knife on the left side and a gun on his right. because of his loose clothes there are plenty more places where he could conceal weapons. Mr. Whitlock gives Lady Eris Volkova a nod and says "Greetings". He then takes the seat closest to the door.

Eris arched an eyebrow, and smiled prettily. All calculated, of course, in order to put her ‘colleagues’ at ease and pliable. “Privet. Welcome to Volkovograd. I trust you made it here safely?” She asked amiably, before her blue eyes narrowed as she spotted his weapons. “I think that perhaps you should turn over your weapons to one of the guards. In order to keep violence here at a minimum.” She said coolly, one of the burly guards in the room stepping forward to collect the weapons.

Mr. Whitlock smiles and says "Thank you for your concern about my safety." He then turns to the guard and gives him the gun and knife. he then pulls a throwing knife and a vile of poison out of each sleeve. He then bends down and pulls a throwing star from each boot. lastly he pulls a single shot pistol the was strapped to his leg. "that should be all of them" lies Whitlock. He made a show of removing his weapons to try to gain Lady Eris Volkova's trust. He still has a pistol and a knife hidden on him.

She tilted her head, adjusting the intricate masterwork Diamond necklace that hung from her neck like an opulent net. “Of course. The Connection values the lives of its supporters.” Eris smiled thinly as the guard began confiscating the turned over weapons, before continuing. “And my family wouldn’t be very good hosts if we didn’t ensure the safety of guests, now would we?” The huntress sighed, before glancing at the assassin with her piercing blue eyes. “I trust that’s all of your… accessories? It would, after all, be a violation of guest rights to conceal weapons from your gracious hosts…”

It was with some… effort, that Mister Chausson had made his way through to Volkovograd’s unhallowed lands. It was no small effort, either, flying from across the world in Markion to get over to what was positively one of the single worst travel destinations upon that Earth, in what was already a… highly unstable region. Of course, that meant that the Badlanders had generally been good customers.

He was slightly overweight - not morbidly so, and his somewhat elderly appearance was quite unassuming, jolly, almost. His prominent, well groomed moustache - which had been trimmed meticulously through the years, was well marked on his face. Circular, gold-plated glasses lay over his blue eyes - and all in all, he had a healthy, if somewhat aged complexion. Ah - but of course - the outfit.

He wore a dark blue, finely-made trench coat - with a fine suit of cashmere underneath it, made by some of the most talented tailors in the nation. Black leather shoes, smart yet old-fashioned - and immaculately polished, gave an additional weight to his steps. His gait was slightly lumbering, and by every indication - he seemed a perfectly unassuming older Villuois gentleman - and when he spoke, it was with a heavy accent.

“Bonjours, my associates.”

He turned a gaze at Eris Volkova - bowing slightly, in a gentlemanly practiced manner.

“And Madame Volkova - how good it is see you again. I had never quite gotten to ask if you had made proper use of ze gift la cygne had acquired for you. May I sit down, madame?”

"I understand your concern and i promise that those were my only weapons" Mr. Whitlock lies with a smile on his face "The assassins league would never try to worsen relations with the other organization. Unless someone makes a move against us." After he is done talking to Eris Volkova he turns to the newcomer and says "greetings" without standing to shake his hand.

A man walked into the room, he stood at 6'1. With black hair and a pale skin tone. Wearing an exquisite Navy suit and an expensive watch. He looked and acted more like a company executive. He looked around the room seeing the other repersentives, these would be his new customer base. Although subtle things revealed his true colours as a member of the Central, handing over a pistol and hunting knife. Bringing a seemingly simple briefcase, with a secret of some kind.

"Good evening, I am Mister Mason of the Central. It is good meet my fellow... associates."

Eris smiled, slightly more genuinely as the representative of SOMBRA arrived. “Мистер Chausson, how good of you to come.” The Volkova studied him intently. She remembered him, from the Syndicate Society. Always helpful, always charming, always polite. Still, the huntress wouldn’t bank on any genuine moral fiber from the older man. “Da, of course. Make yourself comfortable.” Eris said politely, gesturing towards one of the comfortable leather chairs ringing the table. At the mention of La Cygne’s gift to her, she chuckled darkly. The motion made one of the Diamond earrings that dangled from her ear swing like a pendulum, catching the light and giving the murderess an almost holy aura. “The gift, da. It worked to perfection. It was just a shame the target I practiced on had competent bodyguard.” She said ruefully, almost causally. Like she was discussing the weather, and not attempted murder.

This pleasant conversation, perhaps, contributed to her response to the Assassin. “Oh? Well, in that case, I believe you.” She said lightly, before smirking. “I will be holding you to that, Мистер Whitlock. After all, I only wish to ensure your safety. After all, if you lied and disrupted the sanctity of my hospitality, then…” Eris chuckled, in a borderline evil way. “Well, you would no longer be a guest here. And I would no longer be able to… guarantee your safety.” The Volkova’s icy gaze lingered on the assassin, before thawing considerably as they shifted to the newcomer. “Welcome, Мистер Mason, to the Connection. I am Lady Eris Volkova, Representative of the Houses of Volkovograd.”

Eris nodded, accepting that. For now. “Excellent. So. Let’s get started, shall we?” She said with an evil smirk. “Now that our initial members have arrived, perhaps we should all get to know this organizations goals. Too long has the Underworld been headless, weakened and bickering while fascistic governments crush us one by one. Well, I say no longer. Two can play at that game, da?” She stood from the table, and gave every delegate a piercing look, her blue eyes traveling from one to the other. “The Connection will serve as a regulatory authority for the underworld, with the most powerful groups of our criminal society serving as its heads. You are all part of that head. A high table of crime. With a unified front, not even the most cohesive government could stand against their own disenfranchised. This is what we are offering all of you, and all other powerbrokers in the shadows. A chance to resist the depredations of government, and a chance to be at the head of a new criminal order.” She sits back down, leaning back in her chair. “Any questions, or are we ready to proceed?”
