YN's National Hero

Postby Rylland » Sun Sep 29, 2024 8:58 am

Hello. Welcome to this topic called "YN's National Hero". In this thread, you can describe your nation's national hero based on their bravery and their importance to your nation's culture, and history from struggles and political instabilities.

Here is an example:

Aleksandr Ivanov is the National Hero of Rylland mainly due to his bravery during the two Ryllandic Civil Wars, and his reforms and being the solution to political instability grants him as Rylland's national hero.

He is also responsible for writing novels such as Zolotaya Zima (The Golden Winter) which he describe Ryllandic monarchs as power hungry tyrants who relies on wealth and power, and his solution to stop this practice on future Ryllandic monarchs.

Good luck!

Dorian Graham, the leader of the Zernacorrean Liberation Front which toppled Emperor Tiberius Zernacorr's harsh rule, is remembered for his bravery and compassion. He was the first king of Corzerran and worked to open the border and allow cultural exchange between Corzerran and the surrounding nations. He is remembered as the first "good king" of the nation.

Persian Princess Goreia & Doyanean Quen Soamanovo
Both women were tasked with taking care of their people. Due to Shahanshah Khosrow's coup to the throne of the Sassanid Persian empire in 530's, the Mazdakites were on the run and fleeing death and persecution. Princes Goreia, daughter of the rightful heir, Prince Kavus, led her people away from the travesty and fled to overseas to find a new homeland. After spending some time in Yemen, she left for the open water. By about 550, she landed on Safiloa.

Queen Soamanovo inherited her throne after a massacre by rival tribes took her father and four brothers. Her people had been pushed to the worst part of the island. Her people would not have lasted long without an intervention. When ships appeared on the horizon, Soamanovo's tribe were hopeful that support was coming, perhaps some valiant wariors? What they got instead were a bunch of hungry pacifist vegetarian gardeners. Soamanovo and Goreia were soon enamored by each other's positions of power and then became enamored with each other. Their lesbian-love affair united this Austronesian tribe with the Persian hippies and their combined civilization blossomed and swelled in number.

Soon other tribes joined in and Safiloa was born. To this day, cities in Safiloa honour the love between these two women and the pacifist culture that their bond generated from this chance-meeting.

Cartman Potbelly was the first national hero of Hochi Junerland. He was known for being the mayor of Junerland before it won its independence from the tyrannical God Knows What Country. Potbelly lead the town through the bloody Juner Revolution, acting as both a charismatic war leader and a diplomat.

As a war leader, Potbelly was known for his many speeches broadcasted over the town's tornado sirens as the town fortified itself early on in the Revolution. After each battle, Potbelly held celebrations so the townspeople could cherish their victory against the oppression of God Knows What Country. When Junerland was on the brink of defeat during Operation Juner Idiot, Potbelly was about to surrender, not wishing to subject his people to even deeper atrocities than they were already suffering. Although some might consider this cowardly, many Hochis understand his decision, as this campaign by God Knows What Country's military resulted in countless war crimes against civilians. By surrendering, Potbelly would have saved his people from annihilation.

During the Revolution, Potbelly offered to end Junerland's fight for independence if the president of God Knows What Country accepted his hand in marriage. Although this resulted in a rather rude retort by the president's office, this showed that Potbelly was not a warmonger and truly desired peace for his people. Potbelly's big diplomatic victory came during peace negotiations with God Knows What Country, where they agreed to surrender the colonel who spearheaded Operation Juner Idiot. As a result, the people of Junerland got some amount of justice over the innocent lives taken by God Knows What Country's military.

After the Revolution, Potbelly would become Hochi Junerland's first leader, who he christened as Mayor. He would lead the new nation through several years of recovery and economic revitalization before eventually dying of obesity.

His body is now interned in a sarcophagus at the central rotunda of his large mausoleum. Many people come to pay their respects each year, and any newly appointed Mayor goes there so that they may receive Potbelly's blessing.
Following new policy by the Executive, this short signature is now freely editable by any Hochi citizen, effective immediately.

The first president of Free Norfolk City, Valdémard Lanthier.

A statue of him can be found at Citadel Station, one of the core hubs of the Norfolkite transit system. Police officers are told to emulate him when dealing with the general public. He features prominently on the nation's currency, and has been a character in everything from books to video games. There can't quite be any discussion about the history of the Norfolkites without tackling the life and times of Valdémard Lanthier.

The first president of Free Norfolk City, Valdémard Lanthier, was a marshal in the Imperial Garbanian Army; he led one of the five great armies deployed during the Vajas War, and unlike his peers, he valued honor and discretion; after the war, he retired to Free Norfolk City, where he was been born and raised; an ethnic Garbanian, he initially desired to preserve Free Norfolk City's status as a Garbanian colony; his family had lived there for generations, and he had been raised by loyalist parents, but his tendency to lean on his fellow Norfolkites and other minorities ran afoul of the traditionalists in the Army who favored the old ways, with Garbanians above everyone else; one even accused him of being something of a race traitor, as Garbanian exceptionalism was, at this time, deeply ingrained in the military.

Despite these misgivings, however, he was acclamed by his men, many of whom were so deeply committed to him that even the hardliners knew removing him would have risked an all out mutiny; as such, upon war's end, he was hastily "redeployed" back to Free Norfolk City, leaving the hardliners in control; both of Vajas and the peace talks with Abetton.

Back home, he was given numerous responsibilities, most notably the defense of the colony itself. He also took to pushing for the resettlement of surplus Norfolkites, many of whom emigrated accordingly; however, due to the inability to secure land from the defeated Abettonese, especially as this was a promise made to Norfolkites for their involvement in the war, tensions spiked significantly. Lanthier's efforts to find living space were ultimately ended when he and his team were "reminded of their place," so to speak. It did not help that this came at a time when Free Norfolk City was beginning to experience the first rumblings of open dissent, particularly due to the Garbanian colonialists' refusal to restore funding to the colony, as well as its fixation with spending time, money and attention elsewhere; in the pursuit of new colonies, it had forgotten the humble Norfolkites, many of whom were going overseas to assist in such efforts.

Haralt Guéribout, the colonial governor, inadvertedly provoked the public when, at a social function, he addressed the Norfolkites in the crowd, telling them "As far as I know—immediately, without delay," when asked how long it'd take for new funding and support to be given. These words proved fatal, because Guéribouts words turned out to be a lie (to his credit, he was working with blind faith and mixed messages), and the public uproar was so immense that he hastily fled to Garbania, with his replacement being Jâosé Le Cleck, who swore he would "handle the situation with the utmost care," and urged the public to calm down.

The Norfolkites besought the Imperial Court's approval for a new budget, but the Imperial Court insisted that then-current funding was adequate. Le Cleck tried his best to control the public, but protests were ramping up, especially after the "Battle of the Produce," in which he and his entourage were pelted with fruits and vegetables by the working women of the market, some of whom had lost their sons and/or husbands in the Vajas War. Le Cleck interceded on their behalf, however; he stated that the "stains on our clothing cannot possibly compare to the stains on their loved ones' gravestones," and refused to punish them. Had Lanthier insisted on turning down the presidency in later years, Le Cleck might have been tapped as an alternative, though it is likely he too, being a staunch monarchist despite his reformist leanings, would have also refused.

The Norfolkites had hope that the Emperor would see reason, but his neuroses was beginning to take hold of him, and rumors of a planned coup against his rule led him to place his own son and heir, the Crown Prince, under house arrest. The Norfolkites, who had seen themselves as the loyalest of the loyal, were suddenly alarmed when numerous Norfolkites at Court were purged; stripped of their titles and lands, they were practically on the chopping block. The feudal customs of old, complete with powdered wigs and oaths of fealty, were being sorely tested; in 1867, the Norfolkites sent the "best of the best; the cream of Norfolkite society" to the Imperial Court in a last-ditch effort to seek amends and reconciliation, but the Imperial Court treated them with such blatant disregard that their visit was rather short, to say the least.

Lanthier attempted to call in some old favors, but his old friends in the military cautioned him against this; at the time, he was training new recruits, delivering speeches on the Vajas War, and paying his respects to his late parents. He was also a prominent patron of the renovations of the Citadel, which was seen as a great example of misplaced priorities, but would ironically be one of the fledging Norfolkite Army's first installations.

The Vajas War ran from 1860 to 1865; three years later, in 1868, Free Norfolk City suddenly declared independence, with him as its first president: why? Because in 1868, the Norfolkites, in particular the "All City Defense Committee," sent agents to the Imperial Court, but they were put under arrest upon their arrival, and it was only due to called in favors that they were able to return home alive. Lanthier, though age was creeping up on him, interceded on their behalf, but the Norfolkites were further alarmed when an agent of the government told Lanthier to stop meddling, lest he risk being arrested himself.

To insult the country's "finest example of gallantry and valor" was a bridge too far; but, when the Norfolkites demanded respect from the Emperor, he was so offended by their brazen demand that he simply expelled them from the realm; against the advice of all in his employ, the Norfolkites were told that they were ungrateful, misbehaving brats, and that if they felt they could do things better than their Garbanian overlords, why not try and see?

The Emperor, Weyerlbert I, simply known in Garbania as "the Tyrant," was consequently overthrown in a bloodless coup by his own son, but the damage had been done: the Norfolkites were an independent people. The colonial administration promptly resigned, and what little of it was left was in no shape to operate, so political power fell into the hands of the All City Defense Commitee, now calling itself the All City Democratic Committee (it was a precursor to the Norfolkite Congress) and they turned the new city state into a republic.

However, the AC/DC was too divided amongst its members to properly govern, so they turned to Lanthier, asking him to be their first president. Lanthier, who was a committed monarchist through and through, initially refused, citing his belief that the Imperial Court would see reason; he expected to be given orders to restore Imperial rule. As one historian put it, Lanthier believed that by working with the Republicans, "all those good men would've died for nothing" in Vajas.

However, these orders never came, and unwilling to see his people suffer and potential be ripe for the picking by neighbouring powers, Lanthier reluctantly accepted the presidency, the first and only president not to be "properly" elected; the general public simply acclaimed him as such.

As president, Lanthier was best known for merging the AC/DC and the remnants of the colonial government; by doing so, he formed the Norfolkite Congress, and he personally oversaw the abolition of all feudal customs, negotiations with Norfolkite loyalists (that is, those loyal to the Garbanians) over their properties in Free Norfolk City, and the creation of a new flag and anthem, both of which were unveiled to the public at Arby Castle, one of the foremost symbols of feudalism in the country; today, the castle is still a private home and remains the seat of the Tuinier family, whom, though stripped of their titles as per Norfolkite law, assimilated into the new state, joining what was to become known as the "republican aristocracy," separate from the nouveau riche families who would assert themselves in later years.

The new flag, known as the 'Ol Green and White, has one star for each borough; the green represents the promise of the soil, and the white is a reference to Isaiah 1:18, a nod to the country's influential Christian minority, and the anthem, Our City, Long Live Thee!, had its lyrics written by Emmeline Fugler, while the music was created by Montague Titchener.

Lanthier's caution against entangling alliances led to non-interventionism being enforced by the Constitution, which stipulates that before any war can be declared, there must be a national referendum on any declaration of war by Congress, except in cases when Free Norfolk City had been attacked first; it was a controversial stance to take, with one critic claiming that it would cripple any president when it came to foreign relations, and encourage the violation of Norfolkite rights with impunity; historians attribute critics' dislike of the idea as an "Aristotlean" desire to perfect human nature by subordinating animal impulses to reason and self-control; however, in the end, supporters won out, and the Mattingley Amendment, as it was called, is considered a cornerstone of Norfolkite politics today. He also gave significant time to helping the indigenous Anmhonmite community, declaring them to be integral to the country, "practically, its backbone," and insisted that "all were equal, that all had an unconditional right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness."

Lastly, Lanthier was the architect of the "one-five rule," which mandated that each president be given one five year term, being barred thereafter from serving again. Although long since abolished in favor of two five year terms, it was one of Norfolkite politics' best known features, and all presidents after Lanthier faithfully abided by it; he also put the rights to bear arms and of revolution in the Constitution, believing both to be further safeguards against tyranny. Despite Lanthier's own monarchist beliefs (even on his deathbed, he confessed he wanted nothing more than a return to the good old days), he enforced republican values, but he permitted monarchist activity, which would lead to a failed attempt (bloodless, democratic) to reestablish monarchism in Free Norfolk City.

Lanthier is considered the country's greatest and most popular president; he is the namesake of numerous places and institutions, and the Lanthier Memorial is considered one of the best known sights for tourists. He was laid to rest at his Mount Zeon estate along with his wife and twenty three other family members; it is considered a tradition for every president to lay a wreath and pay respects to Lanthier at his tomb upon being elected, and tons of people, foreign and domestic, visit annually to do likewise; however, when various Garbanian ambassadors visit, there are occassional protests, most notably by those wanting reparations for the Shaiburg Massacre.

The Holy American Empire absolutely has no shortage of heroes (George Washington being the most important), but none can even compare to the glorious and resplendent Emperor Norton himself, who led an uprising against the Federal Government of the erstwhile United States but was thwarted and sent to exile in the north of the Cascadian region.

Postby Arctic Lands » Fri Oct 04, 2024 5:47 am

The Arctic Lands mourn the loss of a visionary leader and true hero, Comrade David Golubev, whose indelible contributions have shaped the nation's history and secured its future. Comrade Golubev, who passed away tragically at January 12, 2039, at the age of 56, leaves behind a legacy of innovation, strategic brilliance, and unwavering commitment to the well-being of the people.
One of Comrade Golubev's most notable achievements was the establishment of the Arctisian Nuclear Shelter System, the Fallout Forces, and the Nuclear Survival Plan. Under his astute leadership, the nation not only survived but triumphed in not one but two nuclear wars. Comrade Golubev's strategic brilliance and dedication to the safety of his people earned him the title of a proletarian hero.

During the crucial naval blockade of the zombie-infested isle of Sace, Comrade Golubev exhibited unparalleled leadership. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, he ingeniously transformed an aircraft carrier into a floating island, housing vital research stations and hospitals. This swift and innovative approach played a pivotal role in preventing a potential worldwide pandemic and showcased Comrade Golubev as a thrice world savior.

Comrade Golubev's vision extended beyond military strategy; he was a staunch advocate for civil and political rights. His groundbreaking stance on granting artificial intelligence the same status as human beings in terms of citizenship reflects a forward-thinking and inclusive worldview. His commitment to improving living and working conditions within the nuclear shelters demonstrated a genuine concern for the welfare of the citizens.

Founder of the city of Izlechensk, Comrade Golubev's legacy is interwoven with the very fabric of the nation he helped shape. It was in Izlechensk that Arctisans were able to resurface from the shelters he had meticulously established, marking a new chapter in the nation's history.

Tragically, Comrade Golubev's life was cut short while he was engaged in the very act of building the nation he loved. As a bricklayer, he met his untimely demise due to a safety rope malfunction, falling down 40 stories in the city he founded. The irony of his passing during such a humble act underscores the selfless dedication he had to the betterment of the Arctic Lands.

As the Primus Inter Pares (P.I.P.) of the Arctisian Communist Party for 19 years, Comrade Golubev was the driving force behind the country's political landscape. His leadership and guidance were instrumental in steering the nation through challenging times.

The passing of Comrade David Golubev is not just a loss for the Arctic Lands but for the world. His memory will endure as a symbol of resilience, innovation, and compassionate leadership. The Arctic Lands will forever be indebted to this remarkable individual, whose life's work has left an indelible mark on the nation and its people. May his legacy inspire future generations to strive for a better, safer, and more inclusive world.

As a lasting tribute to Comrade Golubev's legacy, a life-sized monument will be erected at the site of his passing. Depicting a builder hanging on a nearly-torn safety rope, the monument serves as a poignant symbol of the dangers inherent in pushing the boundaries of human development. Positioned in the yard near the house he was building, this monument becomes a tangible connection to the circumstances surrounding his untimely demise. It stands as a testament to his dedication, inspiring future generations to embrace the challenges of progress while honoring the memory of a true hero who gave his life in service to his nation. The yard near the house he was building will become a hallowed ground, a place where the community can pay respects and acknowledge the sacrifices made for the greater good.

The outpouring of condolences and support from leaders across the globe following the passing of Comrade David Golubev is a testament to the profound impact he had on international relations. Leaders from Syndicasia, Moloto Japan, Colonla, All-Russian National Soviet Republic, Perno Committee, and Bakhchisarai have expressed their heartfelt condolences, acknowledging the loss of a visionary and transformative leader.

In a remarkable display of solidarity, these nations have graciously accepted invitations to attend the unveiling of the monument dedicated to Comrade Golubev. This gathering will not only serve as a poignant moment for the Arctic Lands but also as a global acknowledgment of the contributions made by a leader who transcended borders in his pursuit of progress and international cooperation.

Bakhchisarai's generous gift of a significant amount of copper further exemplifies the unity and collaboration among nations during times of grief. This gesture is a symbol of their commitment to aiding in the rebuilding efforts, emphasizing the interconnectedness of nations and their shared responsibility in times of need.

The unveiling ceremony promises to be a momentous occasion, bringing together leaders and representatives from around the world to pay homage to Comrade Golubev's legacy. It reflects a shared recognition of his role in fostering diplomatic relations and building bridges across nations.

As the Arctic Lands embark on the process of rebuilding and commemorating the life of Comrade David Golubev, the global support and solidarity received from these nations serve as a poignant reminder of the lasting impact a visionary leader can have on the world stage. The monument, to be unveiled amidst the presence of international dignitaries, will stand as a symbol of unity, resilience, and the enduring legacy of a leader who left an indelible mark on both his nation and the international community.

The transition of leadership in the wake of Comrade Golubev's passing marks yet another significant moment in the history of the Arctic Lands. Andrey Bunkernyy, who will now serve as the Acting General Secretary of the ACP, emerges from a background rooted in the very shelters that symbolize the resilience of the Arctisian people. His political journey began as an advocate for improved living and working conditions, a voice that gained recognition and popular support by addressing his concerns directly to Comrade Golubev.

Before the resurfacing, Andrey Bunkernyy played a pivotal role in shaping the future of Arctisian living spaces. Tasked with developing a standard for Arctisian apartments, he surpassed expectations, creating living spaces that outshine those found in many other countries. His commitment to betterment extends beyond political rhetoric; it is evident in the tangible improvements he has already brought to the lives of the Arctisian people.

Given the responsibility of building and completing the city of Izlechensk, Andrey Bunkernyy has proven himself as a capable and visionary leader. His ongoing efforts to oversee the finishing touches on the city demonstrate a dedication to the continuation of Comrade Golubev's legacy.

In response to the tragic circumstances surrounding his predecessor's death, Comrade Bunkernyy has proposed practical solutions to enhance the safety of those at the forefront of construction. His recommendation to develop better safety equipment and provide builders with exoskeletons and full-body armor reflects a commitment to not only progress but also the well-being of the workers who contribute to the nation's development.

Furthermore, Comrade Bunkernyy's proposal to construct the previously described monument dedicated to Comrade Golubev underscores his respect for the past and the acknowledgment of the sacrifices made in the pursuit of progress. The monument, symbolizing the dangers faced on the frontier of human development, serves as a lasting tribute to a leader who laid the foundation for the Arctic Lands' survival and success.

As Andrey Bunkernyy assumes the role of Acting General Secretary and takes charge of running the overdue General Secretary elections, the Arctic Lands look towards the future with a leader who is not only well-acquainted with the challenges faced by the nation but is also committed to fostering progress, safety, and unity. The continuation of Golubev's legacy, coupled with Comrade Bunkernyy's innovative and compassionate approach, holds promise for a bright and resilient future for the Arctic Lands.

Stephannos, Chief of the Rhanukhii

Some 6,000 years after The Inundation, the ships of the Pretakhoni Empire would arrive in the Holodlhessi Lowlands, seeking to expand their territory.

Stephannos, the chief of the Rhanukhii at this time, recognised that the squabbling tribes couldn't hope to resist this threat and, in the interests of everybody's protection, successfully forged an alliance with his neighbours in the Central Rhanukhani Plains. Thus, the four nations of the Ghattorians, Khuna, Kangharukhii and Samravhtelukhii joined with the Rhanukhii to become the core of the later Unification. This point is now recognised as year zero in the modern Rhanukhani calendar with dates rendered as BU (Before Unification) and AU (Age of Unification), as appropriate.

Stephannos was given the title of "Upetrosut Bolvelahztla" ("Chief Above All Others") and, leading the warriors of the five tribes against the Pretakhoni, he proved to be a master strategist and mighty combatant in his own right. Many a foe fell to his axe of meteoric iron, an artefact that had been held by prior chieftains of the Rhanukhii, but would come to be most closely associated with him by later generations.

Though they were arguably the more technologically advanced civilization, the Pretakhoni were frequently outwitted and outfought by Stephannos and his warriors, who were quick to capture and utilise the superior armour and weapons of their opponents. In spite of numerous campaigns, the Pretakhoni were never able to gain a foothold in the Central Rhanukhani Plains and eventually signed a treaty establishing a border in the Eastern Highlands.

Already renowned and feared for their superior combat strategies, the Rhanukhanis would go from strength to strength. Trade with Pretakhoni merchants along with Rhanukhani metalsmiths learning the latest techniques from their new neighbours ensured that the Rhanukhani armed forces were the best equipped in the region. The Pretakhoni for the most part honoured their border while attempts by other groups to invade the Unified Provinces met only with defeat.

In celebration of the alliance, Stephannos had a great five-sided pillar of stone blocks from each province erected on a high hill overlooking the main settlement of the Rhanukhii. The centuries have worn it down somewhat, but the pillar stands to this day in a district of modern Rhanukhan Kaglakh now named Upetrosutan Gobluki ("Chieftain's Hill").

The exact manner of Stephannos' death is uncertain, with different sources suggesting that he fell in battle or simply died of illness or age. It is confidently acknowledged that he died in the year 59AU, however, passing into history as "Stephannos the Unifier" and passing his famed axe and position as Upetrosut Bolvelahztla to his son, Helias - notable for his blond hair, a rare trait among the Rhanukhii - establishing a system of hereditary rule that would continue down the ages. For over four centuries, the descendants of Stephannos would lead the Unified Provinces.

Due to the untrustworthy nature of "The Chronicle of Leir" (ostensibly compiled in the 6th century AU - only later copies exist today) - the sole documentary source of information for a number of Rhanukhan's earliest rulers - it is uncertain who last wielded the Axe of Stephannos, nor where it may be located today. This hasn't stopped generations of treasure hunters and archaeologists from following even the most tenuous clues in search of this legendary artefact.
