It's that time of year again . Change Log is in the links above and News Post will be up soon. The focus for me this year was just on fixing all the bugs and getting the code and gameplay back to a stable state. Hopefully, this feels like a cleaner version of February.
Long-term plans still include dealing with the disparities in Faction sizes, encouraging competition and also dealing with the more boring aspects of the event like bowing out early, turtling and specialties not feeling all that special.
The purpose of this thread is to serve as a general discussion thread for the way NDay is run/ideas around how to make it better. See the Previous Discussion link at the top of the post to see the thread from last NDay. Anyone is free to post here. As always, this thread is subject to good-faith guidelines. This means that posts like "This event sucks and I hate it", belong somewhere else. Constructive feedback is absolutely fine, however, e.g. "This event sucks because I'm never able to be a Military Specialist. I think it would be good to add a button that allows you to switch specialty halfway through the event. It could go on page X and do Y."
Post Event thoughts:
This was my first time playing the event since NDay 6, and I was left quite happy with my changes, to toot my own horn slightly.
- Cross Faction Shielding: I am happy with this. It's harder to shield across factions now. The levels of strategy that come from this are more complex, and there are now more tradeoffs that exist to just playing as one faction.
- Rad Penalty Reduction: I am also happy with this. Let me know if you think 0.25 is too strong, but for the first time in NDay history, I feel the event was not all-or-nothing for the factions participating.
- Shield Bank: I actually had a ton of fun refilling the shieldbank this NDay. Apologies for the integer overflow, I copied over the table definition from personal shields but it does make sense why that might not be a good data type for an entire faction of shieldbank. As things stand I might think about nerfing the bank a little bit, because I felt like it was almost too strong.
- CAPTCHA: In case people did not notice, I deactivated Captcha about two hours into the event this year. Let me know your thoughts.

My Plans
- Try to rework the way strikes, scoring and radiation work a little bit more. Even if this isn't significant changes to the gameplay, its a bit annoying with how its done backstage at the moment.
- Try to spice up the specialties a little
- Think about how to deal with disparities in faction size, puppet usage etc. To be very clear, puppet usage is a welcome and intended part of the event. The only question is how to present different challenges for different people depending on how they want to play the game.
- Ways to deal with irradiation?
