ASAP announces international broadcasts of the CCCP racing championship

The Association de Sport Automobile Patriotlandaise (ASAP) announced today the nation's flagship prototype series will now be broadcasted to international audiences. As the region's leading motorsport magazine, Cheval-Vapeur prepared an introduction to the series for new fans to learn the intricacies of the championship.

The Cars

One of the driving forces behind the series has always been Patriotlandia's largest manufacturer, Renard Automobiles. The company designed the RR202 from the ground up to be their sleekest, safest and fastest prototype ever. The RR202 features state of the art dampers to absorb the harshest bumps of street courses while also allowing for precise cornering and weight transfer. The chassis is only available powered with Renard's famous VR6 engine.

Once a tuning shop, Archer Performance is now a major motorsports operation, the engineering team designed an open platform for privateer teams in the series allowing for multiple engine configurations. It may not look the best but its performance on track is what sets this option apart.

The Engines

• Renard V6 Twin Turbo
  While it shares the base platform design with it's road going counterpart, the VR6 TT650PTX is a totally different beast. The 3.4 liter V6 develops it's 650 horsepower with unmatched reliability and fuel economy. The car's Push-to-Pass feature is regulated via variable turbine geometry allowing for more boost pressure when the feature is active. The engine is also paired to a six-speed sequential transmission for maximum power output.
• Vector Turbine Hybrid
  Some have described the Vector TH06R Roadrunner as an abomination, but the power unit as managed to turn opinions around after some great results on track. Initially designed as a way to promote Vector's new small place hybrid systems, the Roadrunner variant is powered by a 300 kw microturbine combined with a 300 hp electric motor/generator. The turbine runs at constant RPM to allow efficient power output before passing through a dedicated hybrid transmission to send both turbine and electric power to the wheels. The Push-to-Pass feature increases engine RPM slightly by increasing fuel flow. Some fuel sometimes goes through the combustion chamber unignited, often flaming out of the exhaust.
• Barbier V8
  For those who prefer raw power, the Barbier 854a is a naturally aspirated 5.4 liter V8. The engines rumble is a fan favourite while visiting the paddock area. While Barbier Engineering doesn't have the prestige of an auto manufacturer, it has acquired a following of dedicated enthusiasts from local meets to national motorsports events. Their engines are known to be easily maintained, cheap to run and, sometimes, you might even get more power than is written on the tin.

Size and Shape:
CCCP cars must be open cockpit prototype cars.

• Maximum length: 4,650 mm (183 in)
• Maximum width: 2,000 mm (78 in)
• Maximum height: 1,050 mm (41 in)
• Minimum weight: 800 kg (1984 lbs)

Power

• Power units must be capable of refuelling as such only conventional fuel engines or hybrid powertrains are accepted. Power must directly be sent to the wheels. Jet engines, for example, are prohibited.
• A ""Push-to-Pass"" system must be installed to provide additional horsepower at the cost of 5kg/h of fuel when in use.
• Maximum power output: 600 hp (650 hp with P-T-P activated)
• Maximum fuel cell size: 70 L (18.5 gal)
• Fuel cell size can be adjusted by the series as a variable in BoP or to ensure in-race pit stops. Cell size might be different based on fuel type.

Parts

• Vehicle chassis must be purchased from accredited manufacturers as homologated before the start of the season. Any in season changes is prohibited.
• The series allows for the use of two distinct aero packages, one for road courses and one for ovals. Each chassis OEM are allowed to design their own packages.
• The sole tire manufacturer provides all teams with their tire allotment per race weekend.

Race weekend format

• Practice: For test events, drivers have 180 minutes to complete as many laps of the track as they like. For standard race weekends, practice length is 75 minutes.
• Qualifying: For road courses, all qualifying will take place using the elimination format, except for Transmurine Raceway, which uses the traditional format. For ovals, qualifying will be done with one hotlap with a single car on track.
• Race: For road courses, standard race lenght is 300 km. Teams are required to make at least one pit stop, taking fuel and tires. For ovals, race length is variable as per the event. There are no regulations on pitstops for ovals. For all course types, race starts are dual file rolling starts, with caution restarts taking place in a single file. All full course yellows bring out a real safety car. Under yellow on ovals, the pits first opens for lead lap cars and for the rest of the field the next lap.

Pit stop

• Each car is given their own unique pit box, the placement of which is determined via lottery before the race weekend. Teams are allowed a maximum of 6 crew members tending the vehicle during a stop.

Cars took to the track for the first time with the pre season test in the Mur mountains. The cold mountain air seems to suit the Vector engines with the power unit sweeping the top three spots. The new season also brings some new faces to the series, with Isabelle Lafleur fresh out of WGP2 season getting a drive with Renard Automobiles. Fellow WPG2 graduate Antonin Yeats Durand takes the wheel at Archer Performance. The two rival outfits choosing to reinvigorate their competition with some young blood. PROTOn also chose to welcome in the promising Lola Grant. The two time Starsian kart champion makes her jump to cars in the prototype series. The next step before the start of the season is the oval test at the Côte-Blanche circuit.

The second round of testing took place at the Côte-Blanche Circuit as cars took to the oval for the first time. Teams took their time to shakedown the cars and get accustomed to the banked turns after the past test in the mountains. Archer's Amélia Dufour ended the day on top of the timing pole with a lap speed of 305.68 km/h. Right behind, Fast Motorsports' Roland Toussaint ended the session at 305.59 km/h. In impressive fashion, rookie Lola Grant snuck in the top five with a lap speed of 305.5 km/h. Meanwhile, further down the order, the other rookies seemed to have practiced race running with longer stints which could explain the slower speeds. The teams will now look to shift gears and get ready for the series opener at Ridgeline Raceway.

It's officially race week! Vilnay's Ridgeline Raceway is the setting for the season opener. We are looking at dry conditions for the qualifying with drivers competing in the elimination format in four rounds to determine tomorrow's grid order. At the end it is Rush Hour Taxi's Clémence Hubert who topped the field with impressive pace in all four sessions. Archer's Amélia Dufour placed second with matching times with third place Roland Toussaint. Coralie Picard and Gaël Groulx rounded out the top 5. The forecast for tomorrow calls for a dry race and will hopefully yield plenty of action as they face off for a 59 lap race.

Despite a stellar qualifying performance, Clémence Hubert fell back in the last stint. Team radio seemed to indicate an engine map issue could have been the source for the lack of power in the final moments that saw Clémence fall from first to seventh. It was Anastasie Dumas who saw the checkered flag first securing her first win in the series. "I'm so happy and thankful for everyone at the shop, in the pits and the sponsors. It took four years but it was all worth it", she said as she was climbing out of the car. Roland Toussaint and Marie Fournier also made it onto the podium, Renard's Mila Moore and Finlay's Céleste Gérard rounded out the top 5 with Renard chassis making up all but the top spot. Antonin Yeats Durand was the top rookie in the race also bringing home Archer Performance's only points. His teammate, Amélia Dufour, crashed locking up into the slaloms, hitting a barrier and bringing out a full course caution. The 28 year old was cleared by the medical center and is expected to be available for the next race.

Round two of the CCCP season brings us to "la Métropole", Port-la-Ville. The three kilometer street course is the battleground this weekend as teams and drivers will face the changing surfaces, tight corners and walls of the city's streets. The green flag dropped and the 25 cars stormed down the boulevard and around the old citadelle. The early goings saw clean racing for the technical course with little to no incidents. The leader were able to make good time and put on a show to all the fans lining the circuit. Ciaran Burns' had hybrid system issues that saw her retire the car after only six laps. This would mean that rookie Lola Grant would be the team's sole hope for a points return this event. The 18 year old was lightning quick in qualifying and kept the pace up in the race to finish second, scoring her first podium in the series. Audrey Mills converted her pole position into a third place finish after a strong race, but lost out on pitlane compared to her rivals. Archer Performance redeemed their disappointing result in round 1 with two cars in the top 10. Renard's Lafleur tangoed with a top 5 position for most of the race but a fuel saving gamble saw her lose out on the last stint. The points haul was good for Renard however, with both cars placing in the top ten. The race's biggest mover was Roland Toussaint who came all the way back from thirteenth place at the start to win the race after a second place finish last time around. "The 23 crew were really great today in the pits and it's really nice to see the Fast Motorsports - EnVision car in victory lane. Hopefully it's a good sign for the season".

The Vilnay Auto Club's Renard prototype were flying down the track in qualifying with the two cars securing a spot in the front row. Abel Dufour securing his second pole position in the series for this weekend's race. Marie-Claire St-Pierre gave all she had but failed to match her teammate's pace by only a couple thousandths. Taylor Robinson put their Marchand Autosport machine on the third step. The thirteen year veteran, France Léger and Renard's Mila Moore finish the top five and will be looking to convert a good starting spot to a race win tomorrow. PROTOn's two cars qualified on the edge of the top ten and will both line up on the outside lane. The Archer cars took 14th and 15th and will look to improve on race day. Echoes have started to ripple around the paddock about Isabelle Lafleur's qualifying form failing to crack the top ten significantly behind her teammate.

The third round of the CCCP season, brings us to the province of Sourterre. The 4 km circuit composes of seventeen corners that are a good mix of corners types and straights to make passes happen. It would be Ciaran Burns who saw the checkered flag first claiming the top step on the podium after a well managed race on track and on pit road. Clémence Hubert continues her championship contention with her second place finish. Kevin Reid rounded off the podium continuing Prévost Racing's chaotic star to the season with plenty of highs and lows in the first three races. With a top five finish, Roland Toussaint increases his lead at the top of the championship now up 13 points.

The first round of qualifying of the Bonneville Grand-Prix saw both Renard cars fail to advance. The orange prototypes looked slow and unstable out of the corners leading to time losses down the tracks long straights. Rookie Lola Grant also failed to advance after multiple lockups in crucial braking zones caused her to lose too much on her final attempt around the 6 km circuit. In round 2, the Archer car of Amélia Dufour fell below the cut line, as well as veteran France Léger. The winner of the season opener, Anastasie Dumas managed to bumped her way into Q3 as the clock hit zeros. In the Fast 6, Audrey Mills completed the qualifying sweep with the fastest lap in all sessions. Antonin Yeats Durand seemed at ease with the circuit, having raced here in WGP2, and finished in second place. Clémence Hubert continued her great run with a third place and the two Garnier cars completed the top 5 after a difficult start to the season.

As dark skies threatened rain over the Western Shore Circuit, the 25 drivers for the CCCP lined up for the fourth race of the calendar. The field raced surprisingly cleanly as they made their way through the narrow Terminal sector. Most drivers prefer to setup moves into the turn 8 chicane or at the end of the straight at turn 9 but the narrow technical first sector can often bait drivers into risky moves causing multi car collisions. Today though, all the racers made it through in a similar order that they started in and the game of strategy began. With yellow flags or safety car periods, green flag pitstops proved to be the difference maker. The Garnier Racing Team were exceptionally quick over the wall for both drivers. Coupled with a well timed overcut, propelled Gaël Groulx and Vanessa Pointcarré to the front of the field. The two would battle it out, but in the end, it was Gaël Groulx who managed his race better and captured the checkered flag. In the last stint, Anastasie Dumas and Antonin Yeats Durand were fighting for the last step of the podium but a last lap move by Dumas, into the turn 16 right-hander, gave her the advantage she needed. While it was a decent result for the rookie, his teammate Amélia Dufour hasn't been able to produce the results needed, finishing 17th, much to the chagrin of team owner Alphonse Archer. "We're are just missing a little something on execution. We will have to debrief back at the shop and see what happened". Despite a middling result, championship leader Roland Toussaint maintains his lead and a good start for France Léger means FAST Motorsports lead both championships for the time being. Despite the 16 points lead at the top the driver's championship remains open with the top 10 separated by only fifteen points. The Constructers's championship is a similar story with thirteen points separating eighth from second place.

The streets of the capital were filled with the roar of engines as the 25 race cars of the CCCP wound their way around the circuit. Things got heated in turn 1 as Ciaran Burns took the lead from third with an aggressive lunge that caught both drivers on the front row off guard. Audrey Mills was one of the biggest moves early in the race cutting through the field from 17th. With most of the field on a two stop strategy, some drivers at the back decided to opt for a three stop in the hopes to gain some positions with fresher tires. The strategy however would come under stress after Amélia Dufour hit the wall entering turn 11 bringing the full course yellow out on lap 42. In the end the two stopper proved the winning strategy with Ciaran Burns converting her lap 1 pass into a victory for PROTOn. Championship contender Anastasie Dumas and leader Roland Toussaint completed the podium. The tough season continued for Renard Automobiles as Mila Moore could only muster a 10th place finish and Isabelle Lafleur, 21th. The result was none better for Archer's remaining driver, Antonin Yeats Durand, finished all the way down in 22nd. This means the usual contenders for the championship see themselves in the mid pack while FAST Motorsports and Julien Prevost Racing battle it out at the top. The second half of the season will feature two oval races that might scramble the order a little and make for an eventful finish.

Ciaran Burns brought the car home from pole displaying incredible consistency all race. She dealt with traffic well bringing the Proton car to victory lane for the second race in a row. Félicien Bellavance secured his first podium in the series with Yvesmont Auto Club long awaited return to the top 3. Vilnay Auto Club's Abel Dufour claimed third. Championship leader Roland Toussaint stayed out of trouble despite a close call with Yeats Durand as he lost control on lap 56. The young driver clipped the apron sending him up the track and into the wall. He walked away of his own power. A testament to the series ever increasing safety standards.
In the rookie standings, Lola Grant kept track of Isabelle Lafleur all race, keeping her lead as the season approaches it's end.

The teams won't have to travel far for the next race as it takes place right here on the road course.

It's finally time for the CCCP series to return to the Transmurine Raceway after the spring visit in the pre season. For this qualifying session, drivers get one shot to complete a lap of the challenging circuit. The PROTOn car showed it's speed with both Ciaran Burns and Lola Grant in the top 5. The Renard cars of Mila Moore and Isabelle Lafleur followed close behind in second and sixth. With the whole field separated by less then two seconds, tomorrow's race promises to be a good one.

The rain tried to steal the show for the Passe-Montagne Grand-Prix. The already challenging track was made even more trickier by all the standing water on the racing surface. Lola Grant fell prey to one such puddle heading into the "Virages de l'église" before clipping the barriers. The leading rookie would unfortunately have to retire from the race. Meanwhile, her teammate Ciaran Burns converted another pole to a win keeping her championship challenge alive. Roland Toussaint managed to finished in second place and keeps a strong lead heading into the last two races. France Léger completed the podium and helps FAST Motorsports increase their lead in the constructers championship.

The 25 drivers of the CCCP series took on the 2.4 km oval for 150 laps of constant action. Clémence Hubert charged from seventh to secure her first win in the series and the first one for Rush Hour Taxi with PROTOn. The technical partnership with the latter paid off improving the performance of the small one car outfit. Garnier's Gaël Groulx stepped onto the second echelon of the podium with France Léger close behind. For the championship battle heading into the last race, a disappointing finish for Roland Toussaint and Ciaran Burns means it is still a close fight. The championship will be decided on the last race of the season once again adding to the excitement. In the Constructer's championship, FAST Motorsports have all but secured the title heading into Ridgeline with a 25 points lead over PROTOn. Finally the rookie of the year championship is also coming to the wire with Isabelle Lafleur clawing back the deficit to Lola Grant after a tough start to the season and heading to her home track with a five point lead.

The final race of the season went perfectly for PROTOn as they put both of their cars on the podium and convincingly secured second place in the team championship. Roland Toussaint finished the season exactly how it started, with a second place finish. Staying as close as possible to Ciaran Burns allowed him to secure the driver's championship. On the reverse end of the grid, Renard Automobiles were in complete pandemonium with the two cars finishing 18th and 23rd. They gambled on a late race yellow, by pitting early, but the plan didn't materialise leaving them to do a splash and dash to make it to the finish line.
