Scramble for Antarctica

Boats sailing, brooms out, through the sea and the glaciers. Darkness in the sky, hope almost lost, just when we hit eden. A new world, a cold, large, dangerous world. We arrived and we were shaken. We went through the ice, our shoes were deep into it but with being careful we managed to head deeper. This was a land thought to not exist, only a myth, the myth of Antarctica and now it is here below ours eyes. The expedition is successful, the expedition is successful, colonization is imminent.

While the places where they were about to head were mysterious, the crews arriving had some idea from topographical mapping. But only some idea. There was a peninsula, a grand one stretching out in the east with trees which are a rare sight here and there was the archipelago in the west which could be compared to the wild west with it's oil, more oil and even more oil. And there was a bunch of ice in the middle, glaciers. The crews would need to decide where to land ~ soon, fast and quickly.

Mission Suzuki

Day 1 - Landing at the Eastern Peninsula

The ships were rusty, repairs happened from old scraps but innovation guides them through. As the ships saw ice and ice and even more ice in the horizon, their radars checked and it was the peninsula. It seemed of good shape, and they saw some trees. Unexpected, noted down Yang ~ Yang Suzuki. The crew ran and were relieved. Yang's primary assistant, his sister, Jana Suzuki was deep into biology. As they hit the ice the ship broke a bit but they managed to go out in all the rubble. The rest of the crew started to get out little resources remaining, some food, some rough maps and books but the ink had dissolved through time. Jana went down to a tree, looking at it's green leaves and it's brown wood. She began researching it.

Suzuki: "Cool tree, I guess. Any fruit?"
Jana: "Hmm, some berries and nothing more."
Suzuki: "Berries?! That's utopian!"
Jana: "Let's see, some blueberries."
Suzuki: "Could sustain the crew for the next day."
Jana: "Of course it could!"

2 Berries found, crew consists of 4. 2 Crew Members not fed.

Day 1

The Hu Dynasty had allusions-of-grandeur - not exactly "delusions-of-grandeur," but allusions meaning that it's a vision but one that's not all quite "insane" there. Lu didn't - and couldn't - care less about what the Hu were doing, even if it was her mothercountry;

Well, what it was, was that the Hu were planning - they had then-placed their plans into operation for sailing and expanding, trying to see things from a different perspective from what Chinese knew - and that can happen through the Hu's travellingefforts. And the Empress, the present-day Empress had placed still, much stock into an exploratory fleet of ships. She had trusted her sailors and crewmen, but simultaneously was to see ways wherein the plan would fail - so she had adapted through them.

Lu, currently, was both arguing and scuffling with the crewmen under her wing. She narrowed her eyes, just feeling the judgement, feeling them thinking she was a failed leader - but she held the spear up high, and yelled,

"I CAN DO THIS! WHY DO YOU ALL NOT TRUST MY WAY? IT'S EITHER MY WAY, OR GET PUNCHED IN THE FACE!"

Her somewhat-oversized "gentlemens'" hat was flowing in the winds as she'd fought to prove her stranglehold and get-rid-of all internaldoubts the people under her, had held.

It was day 1 of the second phase of the Seelöwe expedition, and the members of the mission had already been in Buenos Aires for a month. It was a dry, warm morning, and Marc looked at the 2 boats: they were beautiful three-masts with hulls reinforced with metal plates. Their names were ‘L'espérance’ and ‘La Roche noire’. They would leave with a crew of 60 men, 50 colonists and 7 scientists.
They would then spend 1 month there, alone, before other ships arrived to complete the colony. The location of the colony was not chosen at random: it was the peninsula that Captain Ulysses Guest had discovered on 3 June 1799.
They had provisions for 5 months and were due to arrive after 2 and a half months at sea.

The expedition had been delayed by the absence of the scientists, who had not arrived until very late.

This gave Marc time to review every detail of the mission.

It was already getting late when he reread for the last time the document containing all the names and functions of the crew members:

Marc de La planche noire: captain and governor
(Cartographer)

Victor Gruant - captain of La roche noire

1; Jean Rouget: geologist and glaciologist

2; Henri Blanc: Biologist

3 ; Louis Duret: meteorologist and writer

4; Xavier pétitart: geographer, cartographer and expedition archivist

5 ; Luc la Faou : astronomer, sailor during his childhood, this role will only be assigned to him in case of extreme recourse.

6; François Blanc (Henri's brother): historian, ethnologist and linguist

7; Franz Wultzer: mathematician and doctor, the only one of the seven scientists to become a colonist.

Crew:

1 : Lucas Xarzen - cook

2 : John Larmann - cook

3 : David Diffrac - boatswain

4 : Laurent Grabet - boatswain

5 : Henri Licard - boatswain

6 : Clément Lapier - helmsman

7 : François Lapier - helmsman

8 : Thierry Luiscart - boatswain

9 : Frisort Luist - boatswain

10 : Wilhelm Kaurier - military officer

+ 60 sailors

and 50 colonists.

The French Expedition
Day 1
Gilles Auguste de Raymond stood at the bow of the Colbert-class frigate Imperial, the tails of his coat flapping in the icy wind, as at long last Antartica came into view. Quickly, a team of settlers led by de Raymond landed on this Newest World. They were followed by supplies such as tools and building material, and the team quickly got to work building what would become the center of the colonial government.

Day 1 actions:
Land on Antartica
Start building prefecture building.

After 2 months and 19 days of Navigation… We landed !

All the colonists were prepared for the opportunity to create a new world. The majority of them were men and women who had lost everything; they saw this voyage as an opportunity to start afresh. The temperature was 7 degrees Celsius and the anchorage was relatively deep (17 metres), so I got into one of the longboats (a canoe with a small sail that could be folded up when you wanted to row) with our passengers and a few colonists.
I was positioned at the bow and was responsible for the manoeuvre when we observed a large whale. We ceased our progress for a brief period before continuing and docking.
My inaugural act on this new continent was to plant the princely flag at the summit of the hill overlooking the small bay.

Day 2 - New Horizons

Mission Suzuki

While the berries found were useful, rations are estimated to sustain them for 2 more weeks. Lots of rations got wet and inedible in the journey though. Careful charting has revealed more trees. Slow harvesting has begun. 50 wood and 20 berries have been gained.

Mission Free Parking

Monopoly Man and his crew are not particularly good at caching fish but survival needs kick in definitely, they catch 10 fish. A good amount. It looks like some of their metal has decayed over time, leaving 40% of the metal unusable. They have managed to find water, rare in Antarctica. About 5 bottles of water. This will increase efficiency for half of the crew by 200%, increasing total efficiency by 100%.

Mission Xingchou

While the colonists aren't happy with their bad treatments leaving 20% of them flocking to create their own rival colony, the Celestial Order of Zingsia. Which acclaim China as the ultimate embodiment of chaos created by the sixth god god, Zinga, to protest against the Celestial Church of Realms Beyond. They say that the true sixth god, who was fallen, who represents divine creation, named Sia, has blessed the Celestial Order. The expedition is successful landing at some Antarctic island but it has no trees and is rich in oil, oil that is difficult to extract without setting infrastructure which is definitely hard to do align with 20% of their workforce leaving.

Mission Seelöwe
Their landing in the Guest Peninsula had been late but successful, it had sizable amounts of trees and a large river. After planting their flag, they were able to extract some water, food, and log. It was an average first day but the night sky was incredible indeed. Morale of crew is boosted by 100% for the next day.

The French Expedition
The crew was quick to work, having came very prepared, they started building a new prefecture building, it came out alright. Like a larger house but suited. Exploration lead to them finding their island was quite dry, there were very few pacts of water and it was hot, well as hot as Antarctica could get, room temperature. It was great for working but meant that trees couldn't really be found a lot. They gather a modest amount of wood, 25. And they gather only 15 water. They will clearly need to find somewhere better, but for now their supplies will do.

Day 2

"Cowards, wimps, and cultists..." Lu hissed, as she played around with the spear - the same spear from the day prior, albeit cleaned of the blood that was on it from the past time she was forced to prove herself.

Seems like everyone there, had been underestimating her - not wanting to do as she'd wanted to, questioning her -

the like.

They could've just stayed the course - but they had to get in the way of Lu Chang-kai.

What the woman had done, was, after proving herself to the remainder of her crew - she had made camp. Really, she'd hated that she had to "command" this. She liked just, being by herself. She toyed with the idea of making her own fiefdom with her own two hands and feet - with her own teeth and fingernails. It would be all self-made...

But alas - she had to use what the Empress gave her. She was stuck in the plans of the Hu, and it'd seemed there was no wrinkled corner in that proverbial paper. The Empress had wanted something done her way - that was it. She wanted to do something in Antarctica - and so, it'd be hardpressed to remove the Empress from her yearnings.

Lu wanted this land to be in her image. And now, she held anger for the traitorous some, the 20% or so of the crew who'd ran-off. In her mind, all she could think of, was revenge. Was to burn down the breakaway-colony and punish the traitors.

She stopped her daydreaming and got up, still with the same spear though now slung on her back. She wasn't wearing her hat anymore, it was sitting on her desk. She was going to give the orders to go out and hunt for food. Lu had the glimmer in her eye suggesting she'd wanted to kill something - just unsure of what exactly.

But she was thinking, if it'd had meat - surely its meat would taste good?

Besides that, she really didn't care about oil. Lu just really, wanted a good fight. That and, she held the idea of Xingchou being hustling and bustling. Just that, they needed ores, stones, et al to build and make all that hustle-and-bustle. 20% of people betraying off, had meant they had taken some resources off of the ship for themselves - meaning, some weapons and tools were missing.

And Lu, being the woman she was, always had a weapon in her hands. Just - she held resentment because, she'd wanted her crew to listen to her and not ever question or doubt her ever again. They had made it all this far, surely Lu was a good commander...

On the second day we were busy chopping wood, which we then boarded, from where we anchored at a magnificent bay: the cove overlooked a small river, and the deep green meadow gave a glimpse of springs. Rabbits abounded. We decided to settle here.
We built three cabins out of stone and wood.
At night, our astronomer took readings, our biologist studied the fauna and I wandered around with the cartographer to draw up a map of the area.
After an hour's walk, we saw a large mountain at least 1,500 metres high, which we called the South Peak.
