Operation Ocean Might

Premise

The Banesmar Islands form a small, insignificant, uninhabited archipelago in the Jonnis Sea a few hundred miles out from the western Kalythian coastline. Characterized by rocky terrain and poor soil, the islands have remained untouched for centuries as no settlers of any nation could make the islands sustainable through any form of husbandry.

What was recently discovered, though, is the fact that the waters that surround them contain some of the biggest oil deposits known to man. For decades, oil corporations hailing from countries around the world have set up many offshore drilling rigs within the vicinity of the Banesmar Islands. However, no nation bothered to actually claim the islands themselves until now.

The Kalythian government has authorized the creation of a modern Potemkin village on the Banesmars. By contracting a defense conglomerate to not only erect military deterrences on the islands, but also station dozens of employees to live on them, Kalythia now claims official and total ownership of the Banesmars. The fake settlement has been named Haddistown.

By international law, every square meter of ocean within twelve nautical miles of the islands are now considered Kalythian territorial waters. Under this pretext, the Kalythian government has ordered the forced eviction of all foreign companies from this area of the Jonnis Sea as part of an attempt to secure the entirety of the surrounding oil deposits for Kalythia alone.

This plan has been codenamed Operation Ocean Might by Kalythian high command.

Rules

1. No weapons of mass destruction.
2. No godmodding. The unit cap for the RP will be updated and enlarged as time goes on and the conflict escalates. Stay within this limit. The Kalythians aren’t bound by it and will outnumber you almost every time, but since you’ll be retaking the Banesmars alongside other nations, this imbalance is to be expected.
3. Nothing is stopping you from attacking the other nations that are also responding to the Kalythian occupation, but it’s a pretty bad idea considering that the Kalythians are the biggest threat and the main reason why your military is here in the first place.
4. Nothing is stopping you from actually invading the Kalythian continent. However, be warned, this is a major escalation of the conflict and can only happen after I think the RP has escalated far enough (I’ll announce it when it does). Any mention of invading Kalythia beforehand will be ignored. Also, remember, Kalythia is a nation of six billion people. If you want to invade, be prepared for a costly, painful, and brutal slog that may not be worthwhile at all.
5. Posts must contain at least five sentences of well-written content for quality control. I’ll be maintaining a table of battles for the RP and you need to communicate to me the number and types of units that you field, and whatever other details you think are necessary.

No more applications will be accepted. The war's end is in sight. The light is at the end of the tunnel.

Action Day Report, Ministry of the Armed Forces

As the region turned its eyes towards the Jonnis Sea, the Kalythian navy finally arrived in the area in the form of two carrier task forces. Spearheaded by KOF Indomitable and KOF Courageous, the task forces began breaking up into smaller squadrons as they hunted down the last remaining oil rigs that have refused to comply with the Kalythian order to depart. Once arrived, Kalythian warships broadcasted a message that was simple and identical for every encounter:

"Twenty minutes to evacuate your platform before you are fired upon."

Despite the fact that many of these rigs lacked any mode of transportation apart from their emergency evacuation capsules, Kalythia had made up its mind: either these rigs fall into their hands, or they fall into the ocean below.

One of the task forces also took the opportunity to garrison a small regiment of marines in the village of Haddistown, on the northeastern corner of the island of the same name.

In total, the Kalythian military presence around the Banesmars stood at a singular land regiment, two carriers, and thirteen destroyers...for now. Those naval vessels that were not on oil rig eviction duty had been ordered to take up a perimeter around the islands as radar pickets to detect any unwanted visitors in advance.

Operation Ocean Might had begun.

2 Cairo-Class Guided Missile Cruisers and 4 Benghazi-Class Guided Missile Destroyers enters the waters of the Banesmar Islands. Each ship was seen flying the Egyptian Flag as well as the flags of the 4 alliances Egypt is apart of. The radars of the 6 Egyptian warships detected what appears to be 2 aircraft carriers and several destroyers. The Egyptian Flotilla were to initiate Freedom of Navigation Operations through the Banesmar Islands to see what sort of reaction they could get from these unknown ships.

She did a double take before calling out, "Um Captain you may want to come have a look at this." Captain Achmed Yousef came over to where the petty officer was and took a look at what the spotter saw and boy was he shocked. Operation Jonnis Guard
Jonnis Sea

With the announcement from Kalythia the Independent Republic of Boldonia began to mobilize to uphold Freedom of Navigation and, while Boldonia had no intentions of defending the continued existence of civilian operations in the Jonnis Sea, they were at least going to ensure the Kalythians didn't actively shoot at civilians. Preparations were slow as the issues over the Jonnis Sea were mostly seen as a foreign issue, but the events of May 11th moved up the timetable. With direct threats and seizure of civilian oil rigs with little to no real warning, giving no time for rigs to properly seize operations and leave, calls in the government only grew for more direct intervention. Still though, Boldonia had no stakes in the conflict, but it did at least create a force to deal with potential threats to civilians. The operation named Jonnis Guard was to be lead by Arleigh Burke-Class destroyer IRBS Amber, with a frigate and two patrol boats being part of the naval component. Unbeknownst to the public however the Los Angeles-Class submarine IRBS Shiloh from Boldonia's mostly mysterious and closed lip submarine fleet was also supposed to take part, just in case the Kalythians decided they wanted to fight back. A small ground component was also put on standby consisting of 500 military police officers of the Independent Republic of Boldonia Security Corps 4th Division with the purpose of defending oil rigs and civilian ships against boarding attempts. The Delta team of the Independent Republic of Boldonia Security Corps Special Tactics and Missions (STAM) were told to be ready in case things got heated, but it was hoped they wouldn't have to be called in. If they were though, the Kalythians would learn the power of STAM first hand, STAM was Boldonia's tier one special forces force, with training from the SAS and the US Navy SEALs STAM was not a force to be messed around with, if they were preparing that meant Boldonia was prepared for the Kalythians to respond.

With preparations complete the Independent Republic of Boldonia sent out a notice to the maritime industry:
Independent Republic of Boldonia Department of Defense
Notice to Maritime Shipping and Navigation in the Jonnis Sea

Due to actions taken by the Kalythian Oceanic Forces the Independent Republic of Boldonia Naval Forces and Independent Republic of Boldonia Security Corps have found it necessary to declare a Freedom of Navigation Operation (FONOP) for areas of the Jonnis Sea around the Banesmar Islands, Operation Jonnis Guard. Civilian shipping intending to travel through the area are recommended to contact the Independent Republic of Boldonia Naval Command through the provided channel in order for escorts by military warship to be provided. Civilian oil rigs or other such manned maritime equipment are also recommended contact Independent Republic of Boldonia Naval Command through the same channel if they believe they are at risk of being unlawfully boarded, seized, or destroyed. If a civilian ship or oil rig is being directly threatened by hostile forces an emergency channel is open to contact emergency support.

Military warships and units operating in the area are to be warned that the Independent Republic of Boldonia is a neutral party only concerned with maintaining the Freedom of Navigation as described under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS). If warships find themselves to be under threat by hostile forces, they should not contact Independent Republic of Boldonia Military Forces units as their request will be denied. Assistance will only be provided in cases where there is duty to rescue as defined by UNCLOS, however this does not mean that the Independent Republic of Boldonia is to be a belligerent in any conflict happening in the area. Rescued military personnel will be returned to the nearest military unit or base of their home country, however if a hostile unit demands that rescued crew be surrendered the Independent Republic of Boldonia, in the interest of neutrality, will comply except for in cases where the unit in question unlawfully demands the surrender or threatens the rescuing ship, in which case the ship will have no other case but to defend itself.

Independent Republic of Boldonia Military Forces units will not directly seek out or attack any vessel, civilian or military, unless directly threatened or the Federal Government of the Independent Republic of Boldonia has declared a state of conflict. In all other cases civilian and Independent Republic of Boldonia Military Forces units are to be left alone unless rendering aid or ordering their evacuation or eviction in a lawful and non-malicious manner. All civilian vessels are wished the best of luck.

Action Day Report, Ministry of the Armed Forces

The international response to Ocean Might was immediate and almost terrifyingly swift. The day after the arrival of the Kalythian warships, numerous unknown radar surface contacts had been detected and verified as military. Three formations of ships were approaching, all from different directions.

With strike fighters from both Kalythian carriers circling the Banesmar Islands as combat air patrol, additional destroyers were called up to the perimeter around the islands, just within the defined territorial waters that surrounded the islands. The marine regiment on Haddis Island was put on high alert almost as soon as their boots hit the shores.

Two destroyers, KOF Lethbridge and KOF Adelaide, were dispatched to pick up the oil rig workers from the sea in their evacuation capsules. Kalythian protocol dictated that these workers were to be processed and then forcibly repatriated to their home countries. To accomplish this, Lethbridge and Adelaide have left the Banesmar Islands due east to return to Kalythia and disembark their passengers. The total number of Kalythian warships defending the Banesmars has been reduced to thirteen.

Despite being under direct threat of naval bombardment, a few of the offshore oil platforms refused to answer the Kalythian demand to evacuate. Communications between these rigs and one of the unidentified fleets near the islands have been intercepted, but the exact content of these signals were unknown to the Kalythians. Despite the Kalythian pledge to open fire, even the overall commanding officer of the operation was hesitant on annihilating civilians with guns and rockets. Clarification for orders to shoot and destroy the rigs was requested to Kalythian high command, but this took time to be passed up.

As for the three fleets making a beeline towards the islands, a handful of the picket destroyers already on the perimeter were ordered to broadcast a brief interrogation over unencrypted radio.

"All vessels within range of this transmission, you are approaching Kalythian territorial waters in an aggressive and provocative manner. Under Kalythian Oceanic Forces rules of engagement, identify your ships, nation, and purpose, deviate from your current course, or risk being fired upon."

The Foreign Office
Telora, Aquitayne

The engine hum of the First Secretary of State's armored S-class sedan came to life as the Secretary told his driver to get to the ministerial building with haste. Robert Veladrys sat in the back of the sedan, on the phone with one of Aquitayne's wealthiest citizens - Vladimir Ostrovich, inheritor of OstOil, a petroleum giant in Astyria. The company was named after the family's surname, and held its influence throughout Astyria as well as the rest of the world due to its size and efficiency in energy extraction and production. Veladrys had dealt with Ostrovich on more than a few occasions during his tenure as First Secretary of State, with the latter's company getting itself bogged down into one conflict or another seemingly by the day. The megacorporation had its own internal security service it contracted for most issues, if not relying on Aquitayne's own Axalon PMC for more intense needs.

From the direction of the conversation, it appeared Ostrovich had severely misjudged the threat matrix for a group of drilling rigs in the Jonnis Sea. It appeared that OstOil had invested billions of dollars in infrastructure only to have been told by the Kalythian government to immediately abandon the rigs or face summary execution. Veladrys had seen the Kalythian declaration of ownership over the Banesmar islands come across his desk in the previous weeks, but didn't think much of it given it was uninhabited and well outside Aquitayne's sphere of influence. "Vlad, I'm pulling up to the ministry now. Let me get some support staff rounded up and I'll call you in thirty." Veladrys hung up the phone and practically hopped out of the car as it came to a sudden halt inside the main gate to the Foreign Office.

Entering the building, he was immediately surrounded by his support staff, all of which were already abreast of the situation. Ostrovich's interests in keeping control over the oil rigs, and by extension a portion of Aquitayne's energy security, made this situation a spiraling national security issue by the minute. "Garner, I need the National Security Council convened immediately. Get me the Defense Secretary."

Roughly thirty minutes later, Veladrys, the King, Samuel I, the Defense Secretary, Prime Minister, and Commandant of the Royal Marines were on a secure satellite link. "Your Majesty," Veladrys began, "as you may remember from an intelligence briefing from a week or so ago, the Kalythian government has unilaterally announced they are annexing the Banesmar archipelago. This was not of much concern to us, however the situation has changed drastically."

"The Kalythian government has sent something of an armada to the Banesmars, two carrier strike groups have began forcibly removing personnel from legally placed drilling rigs in the Jonnis sea within the Banesmar's 12 mile economic exclusion zone, claiming that zone now belongs to them, and them alone. OstOil reached out to the Foreign Office, and myself directly, this morning to express concerns for the safety of its employees on roughly six drilling platforms located about 10 nautical miles northwest of the largest island in the chain, Veritas. They have received radio communications directing them to abandon the rigs within the next thirty minutes or they will be fired on by the Kalythian fleets."

Samuel took a deep breath. Such drastic action without provocation and without due consideration for the lives of the men on those rigs was deeply alarming. It gave the employees no choice but to abandon their posts or face summary execution, and gave the government no time to respond without also endangering the lives of the men aboard those rigs. "Robert, has the Foreign Office reached out to the Kalythians yet?"

"We are drafting a communique as we speak, your Majesty, and of course will send it to your office for review before its dispatched."

Samuel nodded. "Augustus, what sort of resources do we have in the region?"

The Defense Secretary coughed softly, clearing his throat. "Well, your Majesty, we have Amphibious Assault Contingent Warwick about 450 nautical miles to the northwest of the Banesmars on their way back from training exercises. It's rather fortunate that they were in the area at all, as we generally don't have much in that part of the Jonnis Sea. We can reroute them and have them within the area of uncertainty within 15 hours. The concern, obviously, is sending an amphibious assault ship and a group of frigates to spearhead a response against two carrier strike groups. We will need to tread a fine line between a strong response without antagonizing the Kalythians into open combat."

"Agreed," the King stated.

"Also," the Defense Secretary interjected, "we have intelligence reports via satellite imagery that indicate the Kalythians have set up a ground colony on Haddis Island, on its northern coast. It is this colony that we believe they are using the justify the claim that the entire archipelago belongs to them and the subsequent oil fields and drilling rigs. This is a precarious situation, they can maintain a large and sustained naval campaign to secure their interests in the Banesmars should they choose to do so. It will take a diplomatic resolution, which at this point seems highly unlikely, or a strong coalition of nations to deter them off their current course of action."

The King knew this story all too well. Nations the size of Kalythia always grew to become greedy and believe themselves to be invincible and impenetrable in the face of adversaries. "I agree we need to be careful navigating this crisis, however we must stand firm that OstOil's drilling rights were legally established and the Kalythian government must honor that arrangement until such a time as the contracts can be re-negotiated. Until then, I'm authorizing the re-routing of the HMS Warwick and its contingent to the Banesmars to protect our interests in the region. Let me be clear gentlemen - we are in no way to antagonize the situation, we will only fire if fired upon as an act of self defense for our ships or the lives of Aquitaynian citizens on those drilling platforms. Robert, draft the memo and send it. Augustus, please send the orders through the proper channels. That is all, gentlemen."

The line went dead.

OFFICE OF THE FIRST SECRETARY OF STATE, SIR ROBERT VELADRYS
BY ORDER OF HIS MAJESTY SAMUEL I, THIS DAY OF OUR LORD TWO THOUSAND AND TWENTY FOUR

To: Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Kalythia
CC: World Assembly, Security Council
RE: Claims on the Banesmar Islands

The people of Aquitayne are highly distressed at the developing crises in the Jonnis Sea, and the actions taken by the Kalythian government to unilaterally declare the Banesmar archipelago to be of its own sovereign soil. The reckless endangerment of life by the Kalythian government and its naval forces operating in the region cannot go without censure. To give an entire crew of nearly 200 workers only twenty minutes to evacuate a drilling rig before being fired upon is absolutely preposterous, and to target civilian infrastructure in such a way is undoubtedly a war crime - one which, should Kalythia act on its threats, the Aquitaynian representatives to the World Assembly and Security Council will forward for condemnation and sanctions.

Additionally, it must be noted that we have immediate and serious concerns on the legality of the Kalythian colony on Haddis Island, to which the Kalythian government is using as its justification for its annexation of the archipelago. We also have serious concerns over the continuation of freedom of navigation for international vessels in the region, and Kalythia's commitment to upholding international law in this matter. We are formally requesting the Kalythian government open negotiations to all vested parties in this region to come to a peaceful, amicable solution to this crisis. To this end, His Majesty the King has authorized the deployment of a contingent of Aquitaynian warships to the region to ensure no Aquitaynian citizens are put in danger or attacked without provocation, as well as to perform freedom of navigation exercises to ensure the continued use of these waters to the international community. Should such an event occur where Aquitaynian citizens or property is attacked, His Majesty has authorized these ships to defend themselves and Aquitaynian citizens and property in the region with all available measures.

We tell you this to prove to you in good faith that we have a vested interest in the peaceful resolution of this conflict, and look forward heartily to your reply. I am available at any time to begin negotiations at your earliest convenience.

Thank you,

Sir Robert Veladrys
First Secretary of State

HMS Warwick
Somewhere in the Jonnis Sea

It was a beautiful day for sailing. Headwinds carried the tail of the ship, floating the ship's speed a knot or two above throttle, and the waves lapped lazily at the bow of the ship, the carrier seeming to glide on the water. Commander Lorn Carrigan sat in the Captain's chair on the Warwick, a Drake-class amphibious assault carrier on its way back from training exercises that had consisted of full flight operations and a simulated amphibious assault with the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Unit on targeted island chains in the further reaches of the Jonnis Sea. Its trials completed, the amphibious assault contingent was making its way back towards Astyrian waters. Commander Carrigan sipped on his morning cup of coffee, watching the clouds and flicking his eyes over to the radar contacts screen to his left, which largely remained blank. In this vast ocean it was rare to stumble on ships you weren't intending to find.

"Pardon, sir" a voice said. Carrigan looked to his left, seeing his Operations Lieutnant Muller standing next to him. "What is it, Lieutenant?" Carrigan asked.

"Message from command in the TOC for you, sir." he stated matter-of-factly. Carrigan nodded and stood, making his way off the bridge and down into the recesses of the carrier's hull. After about three minutes he opened the hatch to the Tactical Operations Center which handled the combat controls for the ship, flight operations and radar and sonar suites. His Executive Officer, Lieutenant Commander Pharrus was already in the room waiting for him. "XO," Carrigan stated, "what do we have?"

"New orders from NAVCOM, sir." Pharrus stated, handing over a fresh printout of the message.

Carrigan nodded somberly. "You authenticated the transmission?" he asked, his XO nodding back. "Understood." Carrigan picked up the phone to the bridge, "Bridge, Captain - change course heading one-seven-five, all ahead flank. Inform the task group."

As one, the group of five Aquitaynian warships began turning and making their way towards the Banesmar's. Only time would tell how far the Kalythian's were willing to go, and what the Warwick and its crew would be asked to do. One thing was certain, however. They were going straight into the wolf's maw, outnumbered and outgunned.

- Operation Jonnis Guard | Boldonia v. Kalythian Star

The crews on the Bridges of the Egyptian Flotilla chuckled at the Kalythians' foolish statement so Captain Yousef as the senior commander of this flotilla decided to respond to the threat, "To all Kalythian Armed Forces, we will not be identifying the ships of this flotilla, this flotilla operates under the auspices of the United Kingdom of Egypt and as our Boldonian friends have eloquently put it: this flotilla is here to uphold the Freedom of Navigation and prevent civilians from needlessly being slaughtered. While we will remain neutral, any attack on my ships will receive a proportional response to the attack."

Unlike the Egyptians the Boldonians responded in a more professional, albeit dry, manner.
This is Independent Republic of Boldonia Naval Forces vessel IRBS Amber, part of Operation Jonnis Guard's task force Alpha-One. Currently with us is IRBS Edmonton, IRBS Pascagoula, and IRBS Mobile.

As part of Operation Jonnis Guard we are conducting a legal Freedom of Navigation Operation (FONOP) to protect civilian assets in the region. The Independent Republic of Boldonia does not seek direct conflict with military forces of your nation, however further military actions taken against civilians will result in the Independent Republic of Boldonia Military Forces intervening to protect non-combatants against unlawful aggression. Should Kalythia seek legal action or some other non-violent solution to the perceived illegality of civilian or military operations the Independent Republic of Boldonia Military Forces will withdraw from the Jonnis Sea, however as it seems that there are still elements of the Kalythian Oceanic Forces using armed aggression against civilians we will remain until it is made clear that Kalythia seeks a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

If you are thinking about interfering with our peacekeeping operations I wish to dissuade you from doing so. The Independent Republic of Boldonia Military Forces may not be a superpower but the soft power held by the Independent Republic of Boldonia is immeasurable. Should we be left with no choice the Independent Republic of Boldonia is capable of mobilizing a large enough military force to ensure Kalythia does not threaten non-combatant operations ever again, as we have done with Brasilistan twice and succeded twice. The Independent Republic of Boldonia does not wish to contest Kalythian claims to the Banesmar Islands and the territorial waters around it, but should you be found to be unable to administer your claimed territory in a law abiding and reasonable way the Independent Republic of Boldonia will intervene to protect non-combatants.

This is your warning, do not mess with civilians and we will not mess with you, but mess with us and we hold the capability to mess with everything you hold dear. If we have come to an understanding then you have nothing to fear, otherwise it is in your best interests to sleep with one eye open. This is IRBS Amber out.

It was a tough almost provocative message, but it was hoped to get the message across clearly. Boldonia's fleet in the Jonnis Sea may have been small but in the past Boldonia has shown the world how they define overwhelming force. Boldonia's carriers weren't busy, most of them were lying in wait at naval bases and ports waiting for a reason to move out, and it was hoped that the threat would dissuade Kalythia from being that reason. The Boldonian forces immediately moved to escort civilian ships and protect the peaceful dismantling of the few oil rigs that willingly chose to leave. Meanwhile the Los Angeles-Class Submarine IRBS Shiloh, as of yet undeclared and undetected, conducted silent reconnaissance on Kalythian units and was prepared to strike back if Kalythia decided not to heed the Boldonian's warning.

It was unknown as of yet how the other actors in the Jonnis Sea would react to the Boldonian presence. In their initial notice the Boldonians made sure everyone knew they intended to remain neutral, but everyone was wondering how long they would respect that. It was only a matter of time until the bullets and missiles started flying, and it was hoped they would at least attempt to keep Boldonia out of the crossfire.

As the Kalythian government handled the rising diplomatic tensions as a result of Operation Ocean Might, the naval forces around the Banesmars traded dialogue as ordered by their respective commands.

The Boldonian force had identified itself and made its presence and purpose known upon receiving the Kalythian recognition signal. Upon reading their reply, the communications staff aboard the carrier KOF Courageous sent a blunt message in return, echoing the response that the Kalythian Foreign Affairs Ministry had sent to their counterpart in Aquitayne.

The peaceful Option:
The Federation of the Kranoc is very willing to attempt to resolve this matter peacefully, by agreeing to give you a cut of the profits from the oil we drill in the Jonnis Sea. We are proposing that you take 10% of the profits from our oil rigs in the area and in return, we get to continue drilling for oil in the Jonnis Sea. If you do not like this offer we arenot willing to negotiate the price, and if you want us gone completely, we are more than happy to defend our oil rigs with our lives.

Operation Djarish:
The Carrier KFN Djarish and its escort of destroyers KFN Resh and Prognet and Cruisers KFN Gonesh and Plight are currently protecting the civilian-owned and operated oil rigs, we do contract private citizens to drill for the oil which then sell to us to then sell out. The ships are circling the group of 5 oil rigs with a total marine crew of 800 men on the oil rigs ready to protest in case of combat on the rigs themselves. There are currently 100 support artillery placed on the rigs pointed out in all directions ready to sink any ship that attempts to attack the rigs and or the ships.

Keep in mind that we prefer that no war or other conflict escalates from this stand-off and that instead, we may resolve this peacefully so that we may continue our economic growth and that you may continue having peaceful relations with the Kranoc and the other nations here defending their interests.

As Dido and Sakawa return to the group, they hear gunfighting in the distance. In what sounds like other ships combating, they knew that the only way to know for sure, was to take a closer look.
“That might be Kalytgian forces” Z23 said, being observevent
“Well, do we try to fight them?” Sakawa asked.
“I would say so, we are here to preserve our infuence”
“That seems good, Imperio, provide some aerial coverage.”
“Will…do” Imperio said, as she continued to chug down the bottle of wine.
The shipgirls now were on their way, with a flight of I-13 Salvacions, A-9 Slephinirs and I-17 Akagis flying above them. They were prepared to fight.

The Boldonian forces replied back, the Kalythians could now hear the angrier tone on the other side.
United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea Part II Article 17: "Subject to this Convention, ships of all States, whether coastal or land-locked, enjoy the right of innocent passage through the territorial sea."
United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea Part II Article 24: "The coastal State shall not hamper the innocent passage of foreign ships through the territorial sea except in accordance with this Convention. In particular, in the application of this Convention or of any laws or regulations adopted in conformity with this Convention, the coastal State shall not:
(a) impose requirements on foreign ships which have the practical effect of denying or impairing the right of innocent passage; or
(b) discriminate in form or in fact against the ships of any State or against ships carrying cargoes to, from or on behalf of any State."
United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea Part II Article 28: "1. The coastal State should not stop or divert a foreign ship passing through the territorial sea for the purpose of exercising civil jurisdiction in relation to a person on board the ship.
2. The coastal State may not levy execution against or arrest the ship for the purpose of any civil proceedings, save only in respect of obligations or liabilities assumed or incurred by the ship itself in the course or for the purpose of its voyage through the waters of the coastal State.
3. Paragraph 2 is without prejudice to the right of the coastal State, in accordance with its laws, to levy execution against or to arrest, for the purpose of any civil proceedings, a foreign ship lying in the territorial sea, or passing through the territorial sea after leaving internal waters"

Now as per the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea Part II Article 25 you do have the right to, "without discrimination in form or in fact among foreign ships, suspend temporarily in specified areas of its territorial sea the innocent passage of foreign ships" Now as noted in that specific article the suspension is to be temporary. However for such suspension to take place it can only be if, "such suspension is essential for the protection of its security, including weapons exercises. Such suspension shall take effect only after having been duly published." It is in this regard we believe you have failed to follow the convention.

Civilian vessels can not conduct weapons exercises, and can not threaten a population that does not exist. The Banesmar Islands are uninhabited save for the settlement of Haddistown which was suspiciously established by the Kalythian government right before ordering the eviction of foreign vessels. Based on the information available and corroborated by with intelligence information from our partners we are confident in assuming that Haddistown is a fake settlement set up solely for the purpose of claiming the Banesmar Islands and their oil reserves for Kalythia.

We are not here to contest your claim to the islands and their waters, nor are we even here to contest your eviction. However, you can not give civilian vessels in your claimed waters an impossible dead line to leave and then fire upon them after you only give them mere minutes to pack up and leave. Decommissioning and shutting off oil rigs is not a quick process, and if you intend to steal them we will remind you that no matter if you are a single person or a nation theft is widely considered a crime. We are here to protect civilians from unjust punishment for a crime they had no way of knowing they were committing. If you stand in our way you are supporting the illegal punishment and execution of civilians for unjust reasons, an act that supersedes international law to compel nations to act.

The way we see it, you have four options:
1. You back off and allow civilian vessels and rigs to continue operations in the Jonnis Sea legally, where you can use legal laws and acts to regulate the impact they have on Kalythian claims. If such actions are legal and just we will leave.
2. You request civilian vessels to leave in a lawful manner, allowing them time to properly cease operations and leave the Jonnis Sea in a safe and orderly manner. If such request is made in a non-malicious and legal manner, we will leave.
3. You let us through to guard civilian vessels against unjust prosecution while Boldonia and Kalythia can talk out these grievances diplomatically. Once an agreement is reached, we will leave.
4. You force us to fire upon you after you either continue your unjust prosecution against civilians or directly fire upon us yourself. In such a course of events you may win in the short term, although you could very well lose as well. No matter if you win or lose short term, you are guaranteed to lose long term. Kalythia will have shown itself to care more about profits and control over civilian lives and legal procedures. It will be sanctioned, embargoed, and have its foreign assets frozen or seized. It will face a full-force Boldonian-led naval force, possibly including several nations that would have otherwise been uninvolved, for the purpose of ensuring the protection and civilians and retaliating against an attack on a peacekeeper force. It will face war, and will face defeat.

Option four is not an option either you nor I wish to take, so we recommend for both you and I that you choose one of the first three options, many of which provide a net benefit for both Boldonia and Kalythia. We will respect Kalythian claims to the Banesmar Islands if, and only if, such claims are enforced in a legal and safe manner with respect to international law.

The Boldonians, although stating that they didn't want to take option four, were at the very least going to prepare in case the Kalythians made a poor choice. CIWS systems were placed online and general quarters alarms sounded. IRBS Shiloh moved silently in the water towards the Kalythian ships and prepared its torpedoes to fire upon them. A transmission was sent to ships in the area both civilian and military, save for those flying the Kalythian flag.

While publically condemning the The Kalythian Star for it's agression, the SRoM quietly mobilized its Südpazifikflotte, and had it set on standby. The SRoM had no assets in the area, and simply had moved a small task group to monitor the situation.

120 miles from Banesmar
The SNF Ernst Thälmann and it's small task group ground to a halt, its massive Yenisei MR-990M sweeping the surrounding 450 kilometers for large objects, as the "Фасет-Б" AESA swept the adjacent 250 kilometer area for much smaller objects, which allegedly, it could detect an object the size of a ping pong ball.

The crew was tasked with observation, and observe they would.

"-the leader of Reiwa Shinsengumi, Tarō Yamamoto expressing disappointment during the press conference, stated that 'the National Bolshevik Party despite their claims of national revival will only damn our country.' In other news, the Banesmar Islands incident continues to escalate. The Kalythian government continues to stand its claims over the Jonnis Sea in a bid that Prime Minister Soryuu has called a blatant imperialist land grab. Oil rigs of several nationalities in the area have been approached by Kalythian where an ultimatum was given to either evacuate or be fired upon. We now go to Political Scientist Mark Borrow, a professor at the University of Auckland specializing in Kalythian internal affairs. Thank you for being with us today, Professor."

Image

"The pleasure's all mine."

"When you saw what was happening in the Banesmars, what was a big one or two takeaways regarding this emergency?"

"Well, the first thing is that this is part of a trend with global imperialism we've seen grow exponentially throughout the past decade. The Holy Russian Empire is once more making gains again in Central Asia. The Chinese Imperial Union is placing greater and greater pressure on the exiled revolutionary government in Formosa and the recent coup in Gonswanza has only emboldened their maneuvers against Hawaii. Of course, this is the one that threatens to break out and in some ways already has into a wider-scale global conflict but it's part of a wider picture. As Imperial powers see each other maneuver for gain, the incentives and costs of compliance only grow because they realize sooner or later this is a zero-sum rats game where the winner takes all. Any alliances formed during this game are merely temporary ceasefires."

"Now something a lot of our viewers are wondering is why now? Why is Kalythia suddenly mounting such aggressive claims instead of perusing the normal diplomatic channels."

"That's a good question, Matsuo, but carries with it the misconception that this is something sudden. On the contrary, this is something I believe has been in the making ever since Kalythia was founded. We've just been too occupied with our affairs in East Asia to pay attention. Forgive me if I speak at length but this is an extremely complex topic and it would be irresponsible to dumb it down."

"Please take your time Professor."

"This entire dispute draws its roots deep in Kalythia's history and culture. First off I need to dispel the myth of a monolithic Kalythia people that sadly too many of my colleagues ascribe to. Where it may be appropriate to refer to the ethnic makeup of a nation like China as a Chinese People due to the domination of the Han both genetically and culturally or the former United States wearing the face of the anglo-saxon, the truth cannot be further when it comes to Kalythia in my eyes. It would be more appropriate to use the term Kalythia peoples. Despite the original batch of immigrants being French noblemen, Kalythia is far more ethically and culturally diverse than - dare I say it - any nation in history. Such states have attempted to exist before but all were short-lived before they indelibly collapsed into Balkanization, to use an outdated term."

"So how does Kalythia continue to exist then?"

"Kalythia relies on the formation of a unitary National Identity to supplant any ethnic or cultural tensions. No matter what race or creed you belong to, you are Kalythian above all. A respectable philosophy but one that has led to a sense of national superiority within its politics. We can see this in action by the minimal interaction with the nation with the rest of the world and where the unfortunate Kalythian stereotype of backward ignorant hillbillies stems from the ignorance of the population of international affairs. This is also why it can be so hard to ascribe their political ideology, they see themselves as above all of that. The ruling party of the nation, Trevillee United Coalition, has successfully seized control of the nation using this ideology."

"But how does this drive Kalythia to be so aggressive then? Shouldn't they be more focused on isolationism given everything they ascribe to?"

"In a sane and democratic system that would be the case. But the TUC is not that. I'm afraid that they've gotten high off their supply. A dictatorship such as theirs seeks an external enemy to distract the people from internal ones so they pick a fight big enough to continue to unite their national identity but not small enough that it can be easily ignored. Given their poor economic situation these past few years it makes sense then to stake a claim on the Banesmar Oil Fields. It kills two birds for them then, a war of national unity and of economic survival. This is why I'm afraid that given how vital these two factors are to the continued survival of the Kalythia nation-state this war will only continue to escalate. This entire thing is an ultimatum to the world that the Kalythia state is no longer content to contain its domination to its region."

"How do you suggest Santoak and by extension, the world responds to such an ultimatum?"

"We put our foot down firm and hard immediately. History and Kalythian politics have shown where you give an inch, they'll want a mile next. Like I said earlier this could easily grow into a globe-spanning conflict and in some ways already has. Economic sanctions will hardly be effective given the isolation of the Kalythian economic system and the myriad of illicit methods they have at their disposal to bypass them even if they were."

"What are you suggesting then, Professor?"

"Kinetic action. Or to put it in simple terms: war."

Action Day Report, Ministry of the Armed Forces

The first missiles of the war had been fired and screamed towards HMES Cairo. However, a last minute deployment of electronic countermeasures from the cruiser and activation of the vessel's onboard close-in weapons systems saved Cairo, as the first of the two projectiles lost its lock and detonated in a spectacular explosion above the ship. As shrapnel rained down onto the cruiser, the second missile was hastily shot down and exploded dangerously close to the ship. While a handful of Cairo's crew were injured by the twin blasts, no deaths had been listed yet.

The failure of the missile strike forced the Kalythians to follow up the attack with the four fighter jets from KOF Indomitable. The flight streaked across the sky above the Jonnis Sea. While Kalythian protocol encouraged pilots to fly low to the surface and in tight formation to lessen the likelihood of radar detection, this instance called for the planes to knowingly reveal themselves to the still not-yet-identified Egyptians. Kalythian commanders hoped that the obvious show of force would display Kalythian seriousness and dissuade the Egyptian task force from continuing any further.

Speaking of the commanders, an argument had broken out between the leading Kalythian military officers in charge of the operation over what to do with the oil rigs still inhabited by civilians. Some of the remaining platforms stood outside of the Kalythian exclusion zone, raising questions over the legality of attacking these specific rigs and evicting their personnel. A significant naval force of a fleet carrier and four of its escorts from the Kranoc further posed as a dangerous obstacle, not to mention the hundreds of troops already stationed on the rigs.

After heated discussion and re-reads of the transmission put forth by the Kranoc, the commanding officer aboard KOF Courageous settled with simply ignoring the Kranoc for now and concentrating on the platforms--and warships--that he had proper clearance to confront.

Immediately after this event, one of the Kalythian pilots had radioed back to the carrier, claiming that they were being pursued by unidentified aircraft en route to the target area. With no orders to shoot, the Kalythian planes had abandoned their pursuit of the Egyptians and were now dodging and weaving in the air to prevent their adversaries from gaining an upper hand. In response, the Kalythians scrambled more fighters from the two carriers, and ordered the tied-down flight to try and identify the nationality of the unknowns whilst slowly luring them back into the exclusion zone to see if they'd follow. In the meantime, the replacement jets roared off their catapults and made a beeline towards the Egyptian fleet.

In response to the Boldonians' persistence and more aggressive tone, the last Kalythian destroyers ceased their eviction duties and repositioned themselves facing the Boldonian naval presence head on. However, this was less a show of good faith by adhering to the Boldonian ultimatum and more of a preparation to fight. Reinforcements were requested yet again, and as the two Kalythian cruisers and marine regiment approached Haddistown, a third carrier task force was routed to the Banesmar Islands.

KOF John A. Fisher was now making haste towards the archipelago, with five more destroyers and crucially, a singular attack submarine.

While the Boldonians might have interpreted the Kalythian cessations of evictions as a compliance to their demands, the reality was that the Kalythians had their orders and intended to follow them to the letter.

The further introduction of more Kalythian naval vessels appeared to be justified when three additional radar contacts appeared on the screens of the Kalythians' ships. Judged to be too big to pose as mere destroyers, the Kalythians eyed these new players in the debaucle with significant attention. An exact repeat of the broadcast made earlier was sent out regardless of whomever had already responded.

"All vessels within range of this transmission, you are approaching Kalythian territorial waters in an aggressive and provocative manner. Under Kalythian Oceanic Forces rules of engagement, identify your ships, nation, and purpose, deviate from your current course, or risk being fired upon."

Further military escalation was accompanied in the foreign affairs ring by a radical call for war by a Santoakian political scientist. Apart from the amusement that the chambers of Kalythian government expressed as the recording of the news broadcast was replayed in their company over his interpretation of Kalythian geopolitics, the sobering realization was that war really was indeed looming on the horizon.

Communications with Boldonia were cut. The Kalythians felt that there was no hope in getting them to leave now. All that's left was to strengthen the perimeter around the Banesmars, and resume the evictions without the threat of foreign intervention. If the civilians on the rigs wanted to leave now voluntarily, they couldn't. Kalythia was hellbent on propping up a wall between the Banesmars and the outside world.

Ministry of Defense
Telora, Aquitayne

The press conference hadn't quite gone as the Minister of Defense had planned. The Kalythian response to the Foreign Office's communique had been brisk and unyielding. The only response now was the put public pressure on the nation and attempt to unify the international community into rallying against a common enemy, one which had no intention of backing down. Already the entirety of the First Fleet was making ready to depart for the Jonnis Sea with haste to reinforce Amphibious Assault Contingent Warwick, though they wouldn't be on-station for another week or so. The orders were highly classified, though the keen observer could probably surmise what was going on if nothing else for the 48 hours of preparations needed before the fleet left, alongside re-directing ships already at sea. For now, the Ministry and the Naval forces in the region needed to tread a very fine line between antagonizing the Kalythians further and protecting Aquitaynian citizens and their property.

The press pool had been harsher than usual today, understandable given the circumstances, though the Ministry of Defense wasn't saying much. Defense Report, a subsidiary publication of Wright & Apollo, the leading OSINT geopolitical firm in Astyria, hounded the Defense Minister relentlessly quoting high-level sources inside the MoD that placed Aquitaynian vessels exactly where the Ministry did not want anyone knowing. The Defense Minister himself had his secretary grab the Defense Report reporter, Alex Vander, and had him brought to his office. A few minutes later the reporter stepped in, a sly grin on his face, knowing he was about to get whatever access he wanted.

"Vander, sit, please" Minister Reich stated politely. "I know you're not going to give up your sources, though they should be tried for what is tantamount to borderline treason for leaking classified intelligence, but you cannot publish any of the operational details of what you discussed with them in your article. That, indeed, would be publication of classified materials and a criminal offense under the Espionage Act."

"Well, Minister," Vander began shifting in his seat slightly, "I think our legal team may have a different opinion of what constitutes espionage. This is still a free country, after all. However," he said slowly, getting to the heart of the matter, "I'd be happy to help you with this, as a friend. I can edit out the specifics of what was discussed before submitting the article to my editors, but I'll need something in return."

Reich shook his head. "Of course. What did you have in mind?"

"Access. I know the First Fleet is getting ready to deploy from Cape Town, if most of the fleet already at sea hasn't been rerouted yet. I want to be on the Orion. This is a once-in-a-lifetime story, Minister, and I intend to be at the nexus of it."

Minister Reich shook his head and sighed. "You understand there's a very high chance this turns into an open shooting war, right? You have to know there's a chance you won't come back from this."

Vander was taken aback slightly. That the Minister of Defense was warning him whatever ship he was on could be sunk, this situation was more dangerous than anyone realized it would appear. "If its serious enough you're giving me that warning, then its more important than ever that someone reports what happens there."

Reich shook his head. "Very well, I'll make the calls."

"Thank you sir." Vander said, standing up and shaking the Minister's hand. He went back to the press pool where he had a small office space and drafted his report, grabbing his "go bag" from underneath just after he hit submit to his editors, and started making his way towards the Naval Station of the Cape to hitch a ride into the hottest conflict zone on the planet.

Combat Information Center
HMS Warwick
Roughly 250 nautical miles from Veritas

The combat information center of the HMS Warwick was buzzing with activity in preparation for the rescue operation to get roughly 1,000 employees off the OstOil drilling rigs and onto the Warwick safely. The Warwick was moving parallel to the Banesmar Islands, keeping a 250 nautical mile buffer between the strike group and the island chain. The four guided missile destroyers attached to the Warwick were around 10 nautical miles closer to Veritas, driving in the same parallel as the Warwick to create a 360 degree envelopment screen, should any hostile threats attempt to strike at the carrier. The commanders of each of the five vessels in the flotilla were discussing the situation in-person aboard the Warwick, having flown over via UH-2 Outbacks at low altitude, along with Field Marshal Elias Brandt from the Royal Marines, who was spearheading the logistical details of the actual recovery mission.

The Warwick had elements from the 6th and 5th Marines, a tank battalion, combat logistics battalion and medium tiltrotor squadron, alongside elements from the Marine Tactical Attack Squadrom and Electronic Tactics Squadron for electronic warfare support. As the discussion progressed from the flotillas current position in relation to RADAR contacts in the area, it was increasingly obvious the region was being inundated with warships responding to the Kalythian's actions. The entire fleet was operating at EMCON, or emissions control, which reduced the electronic radio and radar signatures coming from the ships to almost nothing. This meant unless the Kalythian fleet was scanning with active sonar or radar arrays, which would give away their position, it would be extremely difficult to identify the fleet's position and composition of ships.

After discussions over the fleets current strategic situation were mainly concluded, Commander Carrigan handed over the meeting to Field Marshal Brandt for operational specifics of the rescue mission. "Thank you, Commander" Brandt began.

"The first thing we must realize is that there are over 1,000 civilians spread across the five oil rigs OstOil operates here -" Brandt began, pointing to an area offshore and slightly northwest of Veritas, where a cluster of rigs were positioned spread roughly 5 kilometers apart in a north/northwest angle. We have five Osprey's on board the Warwick, which can get around 30-40 civilians per trip, and another five TH-300 Lakotas which can get another 40 or so people off the rig. That means we need at least four trips per rig to ensure we get all personnel off, for twenty trips between all five rigs.

"My proposed plan involves using the MV-22 Ospreys as initial insertion of Marine elements onto the rigs with anti-aircraft equipment as a minimum defense, allowing us to secure the rigs while opening room for the civilians to board the Ospery's and get back to the carrier. After the Marine units give us the all-clear, we can begin ferrying the rest of the civilians off the rigs with the TH-300 Lakotas en masse, likely with another 3 to 4 trips per rig. Each Osprey will land on the rigs simultaneously initially, allowing us to provide anti-air support across all platforms in addition to the umbrella our ships already provide. After that, we can proceed in one of two ways: we send all of the Lakotas to one rig at a time, ensuring maximum evacuation, or we send one helicopter per rig, which will take longer but will conclude operations at roughly the same time. Air CAP (combat air patrol) will be provided by the five F-29 VTOL from the 223rd Marine Attack Squadron.

"I'm estimating the initial insertion, evacuation phase, and retrieval of our Marine squads from the rigs will take around ten hours to complete from start to finish. Does anyone have any questions?"

The group of commanders had listened intently to the briefing, but ultimately the decision was left to Commander Carrigan. "Let's get this plan in motion, Field Marshal. I want to go with option two, we need to evacuate these rigs simultaneously so there's no room for misconception on what exactly we're doing here."

"Understood, sir. The flight crews will be briefed momentarily and we can begin operations within the next two hours."

Commander Carrigan nodded, "get it done. Everyone, dismissed. You know your jobs, lets make sure we have our eyes on the sky and don't let anything through should the Kalythians decide they want to get into a shooting war."

The four commanders departed for their respective ships, and not ten minutes later alarms rang throughout the CIC.

The weapons systems officer shouted out "VAMPIRE, VAMPIRE, VAMPIRE! MISSILES FIRED BEARING THREE-FIVE-NINER, TWO VAMPIRES TRACK FIVE-NINER-TWO."

Commander Carrigan looked over to his Chief of the Boat, Chief Laughlin. "COB, set general quarters."

"Set general quarters, aye sir" Laughlin said turning to the intercom system. Turning it on he sounded the alarm. "General quarters, general quarters. All hands man your battle stations, baton hatches and prepare fire readiness protocols. This is not a drill."

"WSO, where are those missiles heading?" Commander Carrigan asked looking at the passive radar screen.

"Not towards us, Sir. Looks like they're tracking towards a radar contact we have here, about 270 nautical miles from our current position."

Carrigan watched the missiles make their way towards the target, attention focused as they honed their way closer and closer until the symbols disappeared. "Was it hit?" Carrigan asked.

"Unclear sir, we're still scanning passively so we don't have as much information as we usually would. It came close, that's for sure." A few minutes after the show of force, the WSO alerted the commander to another threat. "Sir, just picked up three - no, four - air contacts from the same bearing those vampires were fired from."

"Mark the position, that must be where one of their carrier strike groups is hiding." Picking up the phone to Field Marshal Brandt, Carrigan started speaking. "Field Marshal, we need to push the timeline up here. The Kalythians have started shooting and there's no telling when all hell is going to break loose out here. We need to get our birds in the air and our people off those rigs before this escalates any further."

"Understood sir, we're on it."

* * *

Back on the Bridge of the Warwick, Commander Carrigan observed the flight deck from his command chair. Five MV-22 Ospreys were lined up and waiting to depart, loaded with two squads of Marines on each outfitted with portable anti-aircraft equipment and small arms in the event of an attack. These Marines would be dropped at each of the five OstOil rigs and the aircraft re-loaded by the Crew Chief with the civilian employees that had been put in harms way by the Kalythians. The fleet would need to break EMCON soon, once those birds took off, to ensure they had the most accurate picture of the battlespace and to ensure they could let Naval command that the operation had begun.

Commander Carrigan looked down at his watch which he had synced with Field Marshal Brandt an hour before. As the seconds hand ticked closer to the hour mark, Carrigan picked up the phone. "Flight Ops, this is the Captain. On my mark..." he stated, counting down the last ten or so seconds. "Green light for Operation Lion's Breath. God speed, Commander."

At once, all five ships in the flotilla broke EMCON and turned on their active radar and sonar arrays. If any of the ships in the area hadn't already picked up their signatures, they would now. The first MV-22 Osprey, heading to Rig-Alpha, as it was designated, took off from the flight deck and banked to the left to begin its 60 minute flight to the rig. One after the other, each Osprey took off and made their way towards their designated rigs, followed by the TH-300 Lakota helicopters about ten minutes after the departure of the last Osprey.

Commander Carrigan picked up his radio and turned to the radio officer, confirming he was transmitting in the clear:

"This is Captain Lorn Carrigan of the Constitutional Monarchy of Aquitayne Royal Navy, transmitting in the clear. We are conducting evacuation operations of five rigs ten nautical miles north, northwest of Veritas. This operation will be ongoing for the next ten hours. Any attempt to interfere, obstruct or otherwise hamper this operation will be met with force. We have established a 100 mile maritime exclusion zone around our fleet, any attempt by military ships or aircraft to enter this exclusion zone will also be met with force. We will transmit in the clear once again when the recovery operation has concluded.

Commander Carrigan clicked off the transmitter, taking a deep breath. It was a gamble to transmit in the open like that, but he couldn't risk the ten rotor aircraft in the air now getting shot down because someone had itchy trigger fingers after the Kalythians fired on whoever that vessel was. This was the time for cooler heads to prevail, especially seeing as how he would have an additional thousand souls to care for before dawn.

Now the real work began.

"Sir, the Kalythians have struck first. Should we respond?" asked the first mate aboard the the Thälmann. Their integrated CIC also doubled as a war room, with men circled around the digital display planning next moves.

Mikhail Fyodorov looked at the display, and adjusted his cap. He relayed his first mate's question over to the Malinovka, and then in turn back to Stratusian mainland. Their response was a resounding no, once again. Current order still held.

Mikhail sighed, and kicked back in the bridge. They would continue logging the actions, including the two missiles fired, et cetera.

"Sir! We are getting a transmission from the Kalythians!"

"Да, what is it?" He picked up the comms, ready to reply.

After the transmission ended, Mikhail's blood was boiling. Was he going to let the Kalythians have their way? Hell no. They had a proper casus belli to begin attack now. The Tukhachevsky and Thälmann locked their "Фасет-Б" AESA radars onto the KOF Rondier. Mikhail also quietly set a target lock on the Indomitable as well, arming well over a dozen 9M21K (9M2100) LOSAT-B "Dolch II" Hypersonic-kinetic ASMs. It was a truly amusing thought, how many "daggers" could the Thälmann sink into the Indomitable before it would go down?

The Kranoc is now deploying two mine submarines and two torpedo submarines into the Jonnis Sea. These subs will be crucial for tightening our defenses and keeping a sharp eye on enemy movements. The mine submarines will lay down extensive minefields around the islands near our oil rigs. We’ll ensure the mines are placed strategically to maximize their impact while keeping our routes clear so that we may assist the rest of hte coalition.

Additionally, our two torpedo submarines, along with the Destroyer Prognet, will head out to support our allies in Egyptttt in their battle. The Submarines will remain underwater and will not re-surface until the return form the battle, and while in the battle will be under the command of Egyptttt, we have briefed our officers on the submarines and they are aware that they are to take orders from the Egypyttttian commanders/officers. The Prognet will also be under the command of the Egypttttian, but all control over the ships will end on the conclusion of the battle.

While the Prognet and Submarines are under Egypttttian command, the Carrier Djarish, Cruisers Plight and Gonesh, and Destroyer Resh will continue their patrols, keeping our oil rigs well-guarded.

The ceasing of the evictions was basically all Boldonia wanted. The Kalythians weren't given any further communications either, but the simple fact that missiles weren't raining down on them was enough of a sign that Boldonia wasn't going to barge in and claim the islands for themselves, that wasn't their goal. IRBS Amber and her group continued to stick around the area just in case the Kalythians changed their mind. IRBS Shiloh continued its underwater recon but it moved well out of Kalythian waters now. The Shiloh would patrol around the edge of the Kalythian claim to note down any lapses in defense in case the Boldonians had to break through, but with Kalythia backing off that scenario seemed unlikely.

IRBS Pascagoula, a small but quick Cyclone-Class Patrol Boat, would break off from IRBS Amber's group to head towards the ongoing confrontation Aldaric Reef just to watch. It proceeded to take photos of the ongoing confrontation from afar, well away from Kalythian waters. A repeating broadcast was set up to make sure nobody went over to the Pascagoula.

This is IRBS Pascagoula of the Independent Republic of Boldonia Military Forces. Our current mission is the peaceful reconnaissance and documentation of the ongoing confrontation. We do not intend to join the confrontation as a belligerent nor do we wish do enter Kalythian territorial waters. We ask that all belligerents respect our neutrality as we continue to observe the confrontation.

Meanwhile Boldonia began diplomatic talks with its allies concerning the situation at hand. Boldonian ambassadors from around the western world made calls to try and convince western nations to pull out of the Jonnis Sea for the time being, as a precaution. Some nations were willing to heed Boldonian warnings about Kalythian aggression but some were to stubborn to, Boldonia just had to hope the Kalythians wouldn't mess with rigs and ships from companies of that country.

Boldonia was however intending to be diplomatic to the Kalythians. Boldonia and Kalythia weren't in a shooting war unlike other nations, so it was hoped there was still a route Boldonia could take to peacefully de-escalate the situation while ensuring the oil still flowed. A diplomatic communique was sent to the Kalythian government asking what their demands were and inviting them to speak with the Boldonian government about the peaceful de-escalation of the conflict and ensuring that oil could still be obtained while respecting the Kalythian claim. Hopefully the other nations hadn't angered Kalythia enough that negotiations wouldn't be possible, but the Boldonian government was holding out hope that the Kalythians would be willing to talk instead of shoot.

5/15/2024
Action Day Report, Ministry of the Armed Forces

As additional Kalythian aircraft screamed by on their way to the target area, the identification of the unknown interceptors was complete by the original four Kalythian fighters. They belonged to the United States of Azurnailia, but this raised more questions than it had answered. No Azurnailian surface contacts had ever been detected by Kalythian surveillance aircraft nor ship-based radar. Concluding that an Azurnailian carrier task force was nearby yet too far away from the Banesmar Islands exclusion zone to play a direct role in the standoff, Kalythian command theorized that the Azurnailians were here to provide aerial cover for the other countries' navies only. Despite this, the Azurnailians had not yet fired upon the flight of Kalythian fighters despite the latter taking an obvious and direct course to what was thought to be a hostile task force.

On the topic of such, when the second flight of six Kalythian fighters arrived to see six vessels flying the Egyptian flag, four remained at higher altitudes to drive off any approaching, presumably hostile aircraft. The last two rolled into a dive before launching a singular anti-ship missile at one of the destroyers which was mistakened to be a cruiser. The missile impacted amidships, blowing a large hole into the superstructure and starting a fire aboard the vessel. Before the Kalythians could circle back for another run, however, a surface-to-air missile shrieked out of the sky, making a beeline towards one of their jets. The pilot attempted to deploy flares and banked hard to the side, but the countermeasure release system on the aircraft developed a fault and malfunctioned. Without decoys, the SAM ripped into the tail of the Kalythian fighter, causing it to plummet into the sea in a smoldering fireball.

The SAM came from a singular surface contact which was previously detected heading towards the Egyptian task force. As the Kalythian formation pulled back in response to the counterattack, one of the intact Egyptian destroyers fired a second SAM which blasted apart the wing of another fighter. The fighter spiraled out of control and shattered as it struck the surface of the water. The remaining aircraft promptly returned to their parent carrier.

Meanwhile, the introduction of Aquitaynian military forces into the Banesmar exclusion zone sparked almost an immediate Kalythian missile strike from one of the destroyers, KOF Fremantle, before it was abruptly called off by the commanding officer. Observing rotary-wing aircraft landing on a handful of the still-occupied oil rigs, the Kalythians watched intensely as the helicopters touched down and lifted off sequentially until a report came in from the destroyer's combat information center. The Aquitaynian navy had announced an evacuation effort to pull their civilians off five selected platforms within the exclusion zone. Upon contacting Kalythian command, the decision was made to let the Aquitaynian recovery efforts proceed. Without realizing that at the same time they were stationing armed marines on the platforms, it seemed the Aquitaynians were doing the Kalythians' job for them. Disastrously, though, KOF Fremantle had locked on to one of the Aquitaynian helicopters with one of its SAMs when it first entered the exclusion zone, and although the destroyer quickly corrected this mistake, there was no doubt that the Aquitaynians took notice.

While the Stratusian self-identification signal was received, the following missile lock onto both a Kalythian carrier and destroyer triggered another series of frantic activity aboard the Kalythian vessels. KOF Rondier achieved its own radar lock on one of the Stratusian battlecruisers in response. KOF Indomitable's catapults vomited out even more strike aircraft and AWACs planes into the sky. Radars became crowded with dots as fighters circled in wings around the Banesmar Islands, waiting for any form of provocation from the Stratusians.

The two Kalythian cruisers and second regiment of marines finally arrived at the AO. KOF Demokratizatsiya, one of the Kalythians' own battlecruisers, immediately pulled up behind the Rondier and locked onto the same contact as the former with its own anti-ship missiles. While the marine regiment was originally earmarked to hit the beaches of the island of Veritas, the sudden escalation meant that the regiment was dumped alongside the first at Haddistown in a hasty and disorganized landing.

Several thousand miles away, the Kalythian Foreign Affairs Ministry was in a heated argument in one of its conference rooms at the capital. Officials raged back and forth over what exactly was the correct course of action to undertake after such an immense international backlash to Operation Ocean Might. Some argued for continued defiance, others wanted the opportunity to reason with the nations who have sent forces to the Banesmar Islands. The argument devolved into pencil-throwing, then notepads, and before the debacle got physical, the fax machine in the corner of the room let out a whine before loudly cranking out a piece of paper. The fight ended almost immediately as the men and women turned their heads towards the machine with curiosity. When it finally went quiet, one slowly got up to pull the paper out and began to read.
