It has been four years since a coalition government was sworn in. Headed by the Arvenian Reform Party (ARP), this government fought to bring about social, economic and political change in Arvenia. However, problems emerged and the government currently stands shaky as a new election is about to take place in the country. George Santoro (ARP), the current Prime Minister of Arvenia, has struggled to both keep his government united and implement some important policies.
The coalition government saw numerous challenges that ranged from protests over social and economic policies to armed conflicts in Ukraine and Gaza. The government is currently on the brink of collapsing due to numerous infightings and disagreements within it. Meanwhile, opposition parties have gathered up strength to challenge the ruling coalition and take control of the Arvenian government.
On the other hand, independent candidates are continuing to make their voices heard in the election. While Shaun Wellington is planning to run for Prime Minister again, two new independent candidates have stepped forward. One of them is Caroline Pritchart, a former member of the Arvenian People's Democratic Movement (APDM) who served as the Governor of the Zuko Province (which once included Murray Island) from 2012 to 2020. She will be running on a platform influenced by social democracy and left-wing populism. She has since received endorsement from the Insular People's Party (IPP) due to her roots in Murray Island, which is now an autonomous province ruled by the IPP. She is also likely to receive endorsements from other parties such as the Elderly People's Party and the Small Business Party. The other independent candidate is a controversial figure named General Harold Turner. A former officer in the Arvenian Army, he has been described as the "Arvenian Trump" and will be running on a platform that is highly influenced by Trumpism. Meanwhile, John Funtos, a gay journalist-turned-politician, has been chosen as the new PM candidate for the Socialist Unity Party (SUP).
It will be exciting to see how this election plays out. It is due to end in either September, October or November.
