Description:

NK08.105/30.DSC is a military diesel powerplant in broad serial usage by the Forces Marquises aux Armes, notably powering smaller tactical vehicles like "Heirophant" "Habu" and "Boomslang". The 60° 8-cylinder engine has oversquare cylinders designed to minimize piston speeds and frictional losses, 5.11" bore and 3.93" stroke, giving a final displacement of 10,500 cubic centimeters, or 641 cubic inches. The engine casings are constructed from nodular-graphite compacted iron, making them rigid and strong for being thinner and lighter than traditional iron engines. The entire rotating assembly is forged, machined and polished chromoly steel, including the pistons, wrist pins and connecting rods; this allows the engine to operate at 19.5:1 compression ratio, burning any range of kerosene-based fuels which are injected directly into the cylinder head. Cold, compressed air is fed to the engine by a water-intercooled twin screw supercharger, driven by gear and not by chain or belt, as all engine functions are on NK series motors. Engine heads operate with piezoelectric servomotors instead of camshafts, greatly simplifying head design and improving flow; the engine produces just over 1,000 horsepower and weighs just over 1,000 pounds, very close to a 1:1 ratio, which is remarkable for any diesel engine. The engine and transmission share a common dry oil sump, which pressurizes the crankcase, sending cooling jets to the base of each piston and along the lengths of both transmission shafts. The transmission is of the dual-clutch automatic type, with two shafts and a total of 10 forward gears and two reverse gears. Precise computer control allows for the use of synchroless engagement and straight-cut gears, which are long wearing and handle high power levels. The engine and transmission are designed to be extracted from the vehicle together and serviced as one unit, requiring very little maintenance throughout its service life apart from basic lubrication, and easily maintenanced in the field.

Computer-Controlled Dual Clutch Automatic; 10 Forward, 2 Reverse

Description:

NK08.180 is a military diesel powerplant in broad serial usage by the Forces Marquises aux Armes, notably powering "Ajax" Amphibious Tank Destroyers and "Orcus" Infantry Fighting Vehicles. The 60° V8 is compact and powerful with oversquare cylinders, 5.9" bore and 5.03" stroke. Minimizing piston speeds and frictional losses from 18,030 cubic centimeters or 1,100 cubic inches displacement, NK08.180 makes 1,260 horsepower from 1,390 pounds including the transmission at an efficient 17.5:1 compression. The engine's natural compression works together with a water-intercooled 3.3 liter twin-screw supercharger to feed cool, compressed intake air to the cylinders. Kerosene-based multifuel injection is direct to the cylinders at very high pressure, with the computer automatically adjusting injection characteristics based on the fuel detected. The entire rotating assembly is forged, machined and polished in chromoly steel, including pistons, wrist pins and connecting rods. Valves are operated by piezoelectric servomotors instead of camshafts; this dramatically simplifies head design and improves flow, promoting excellent fuel efficiency and ideal power characteristics. The engine, heads, and transmission case are constructed from compacted, nodular graphitic iron, making the engine lightweight but extremely strong for the weight and thickness of its casings. Engine and transmission share a common dry oil sump; the pressurized, scavenging system ensures complete cooling with high-pressure jets at the base of each piston. The transmission is a computer-controlled dual clutch automatic, with two shafts and a total of 10 forward gears, with 2 reverse gears. Its straight-cut teeth and precise automatic gear engagement make for reliable, long-running transmissions. The NK08.180/33DSC is a unitary powerplant, designed to be removed from the vehicle as one unit and serviced as one unit.

Air-to-Water Intercooled 5,800cc Twin-Screw Supercharger, High-Pressure

Transmission Type:
Computer-Controlled Dual Clutch Automatic; 18 Forward Gears, 4 Reverse

Description:

NK12.269 is a military diesel powerplant in broad serial usage by the Forces Marquises aux Armes, notably powering "Gharial" 8x8 infantry vehicles and "Amarok" tracked artillery platforms. The 12-cylinder powerplant lays the cylinder banks at 60° to each other; the narrow angle permits compact mounting dimensions and a 250-kilogram reduction in weight from the more powerful wide-angle V12. NK12.269's cylinders are 5.78" in diameter with a 6.02" stroke; this configuration gives 26.93 liters displacement, and generates over 1,500 horsepower from a 1,554-pound engine, a nearly 1:1 power-to-weight ratio. Like other Netane Kinetics engines, NK12.269 is constructed from compacted, nodular-graphitic iron which makes the engine's core and head rigid and strong for relatively light weight. The rotating assembly is forged, machined and polished from chromoly steel including pistons, wrist pins and connecting rods. Diesel fuel is injected directly into the cylinders at very high static pressure; the engine can run on any kerosene-based fuel, with the computer automatically compensating for different burn properties. A water-intercooled twin screw supercharger feeds the engine with cool, compressed air, allowing for relatively low cylinder compression. Engine heads operate with piezoelectric servomotors controlling valves instead of camshaft assemblies; this dramatically simplifies head design and improves flow characteristics at every RPM, making for a fuel-efficient and reliable engine requiring very little maintenance beyond simple lubrication. All functions are computer controlled or gear driven; no belts or chains are present anywhere in the engine. The engine and transmission share a common pressurized dry-sump oil system, which keeps the crankshaft gallery at a vacuum. The transmission is integral to the power-pack, a twin-clutch computer controlled automatic design, with two gear shafts and a total of 18 forward gears, with four reverse gears. The strong, straight-cut transmission gears provide long-running and reliability at the engine's rated power level; because the transmission and engine are integrated together, they are designed to be removed and serviced as one unit, as are all other NK-series engines.

Description:

NK12.387 is a military diesel powerplant in broad serial usage by the Forces Marquises aux Armes, most notably powering the Chimera Mk. V Main Battle Tank and most commonly powering the Typhos 10x10 truck. The 12-cylinder powerplant lays each bank at 90° to the other; this ideal layout creates harmonic balance and maintains relatively compact dimensions. The engine has equal bore and stroke; the square cylinder dimensions work out to 38,750 cubic centimeters displacement, a twin-screw supercharger provides water-intercooled intake air while diesel fuel is injected at high pressure directly into each cylinder. The engine's rotating assembly is forged, machined and polished in chromoly steel including pistons and connecting rods, and cooled by dry sump pressurized oil. Engine oil is passed through a water/oil heat exchanger, which allows for flexible radiator mounting options dependent on the application since water does not need to enter the engine. Valves are driven by piezoelectric servomotors rather than cams; this allows precise computer control of valve lift and duration, simplifying head design considerably. The engine weighs just over 2,100 pounds including its 22-speed, dual-clutch transmission with 18 forward gears and four reverse, computer controlled and shares a common oil sump with the engine. Exhaust lengths are ceramic coated inside and out to minimize heat transfer to other systems; long-tube headers feed a silenced and electrostatically-filtered exhaust system, which minimizes the visual and acoustic signature of the engine.

Description:

HA14.HRD31 is a 1,000-kilowatt compact electrical generator in broad serial use with forward elements of Forces Marquises aux Armes. Like the larger models produced by Honore-Auguste, HA14 is a two-stroke radial engine, operating with high-pressure direct port fuel injection, which allows the engine to run on any kerosene-based fuel, its computer automatically adjusting injection characteristics to compensate for different fuels. HA14 is a two-row engine, with a second bank of cylinders behind the first, offset to allow each cylinder facing access to cooling air. A centrifugal, gear-driven supercharger compresses intake air and passes it through an air/water intercooler to reduce cylinder temperatures. Each cylinder uses an inconel cylinder sleeve with four large sleeve valves cut into the sidewall, driven by timing gears and notable for extremely quiet, low-smoke operation at load and long periods between overhaul. Using the same standard 6" bore as other Honore-Auguste engines, HA14 has the shortest stroke at 4.85", meaning that this engine operates at a higher RPM than the larger motors, a necessity of its smaller size and light weight. The mechanically simple drivetrain and use of high-temperature materials with precise machining tolerances makes the lightweight engine mechanically simple to repair, with scheduled overhauls every 100,000 hours. Cylinder sleeves have drilled oil channels, and a pressurized, scavengining oil system keeps oil consumption to a bare mimimum; Engine oil is passed through a liquid heat exchanger, equalizing its temperature with cooling water which is cooled by a large top-mounted radiator, drawing cool air into the sound-deadened and filtered generator enclosure with high-pressure fans. Engine exhaust is passed through an electrostatic filter and silencer to remove most of the carbon emmissions inherent in starting any radial engine, reducing the visual and acoustic signature of the generator. Because the system is less than a ton in weight and less than six feet in length, HA14.HRD31 generators can be towed on simple box trailers, attached to pallets and parachute-deployed, or can be mounted to almost any flatbed vehicle, making it a common sight in the Marquesan Union. The mechanically simple magnetic generation unit produces electrical power without brushes, dust or significant maintenance beyond simple lubrication, making maximum power at just over 3,200 RPM, at which rate the generator can recharge the batteries of small electric tactical vehicles in mere minutes. Honore-Auguste generators run well within their recommended temperature loads while producing high power ratings from small, compact generation units, bettered in power-to-weight ratio only by turbine engines.

Description:

HA28.HRD81 is a 1,900-kilowatt electrical generator built by the Honore-Auguste company, in Bollari, Akola Prefecture, Marquesan Union. HA28 is built around a two-stroke diesel radial engine, with 28 cylinders arranged in four rows, each circular bank of seven offset from the next row in a helical, or "corncob" pattern. Cylinder dimensions are nearly square, with slightly longer stroke than the 6" bore common to all Honore-Auguste engines. Cylinders are honed from Inconel 625 superalloy and machined to precise tolerances, with four gear-driven sleeve valves per cylinder, which are both extremely robust and quiet. The engine is liquid-cooled, with pressurized, or dry-sump oiling, and a water/oil heat exchanger which equalizes the temperature of engine oil and a water loop for the generator's top-mounted radiator. The enclosure is sound-deadened down to 63 decibels while running, with a silenced and ceramic-coated exhaust keeping down enclosure air temperatures and minimizing the generator's acoustic signature. The generator's exhaust is passed through an electrostatic air scrubber before exiting the enclosure, which pulls most of the carbon soot from the generator's exhaust formed due to the nature of radial engines to burn leaked-down oil in the lower cylinders during startup. A gear-driven centrifugal supercharger with a 330mm (13") impeller provides compressed, water-intercooled intake air to all cylinders; diesel fuel is injected at very high static pressure directly into the cylinders by computer control. The power shaft spun by the 28-cylinder radial is paired to a simple and robust magnetic AC generator, which produces 240-volt, 60-Hz power with a brushless permanent-magnet array which requires no special maintenance throughout its service life apart from simple lubrication. The 81-liter, 4-row radial engine, generator assembly, exhaust and enclosure weigh 2,800 pounds; it is suitable for use as an auxiliary power generator for infrastructure, commonly seen outside government buildings and military installations throughout the Marquesan Union. HA28.HRD81 makes its rated power of 2,500 horsepower at a relatively low 2,500 RPM, and has a major service interval of 100,000 hours.

Description:

HA42.HRD135 is the largest radial generator produced by the Honore Auguste Company, in Bollari, Akola, Marquesan Union. With 42 cylinders in six rows and at 135 liters total displacement, it is one of the largest and most powerful radial engines in the world, weighing nearly 7,300 pounds and generating more than 3,200 horsepower at only 1,800 RPM, it is the current in-service diesel backup generator for all major Marquesan naval warships. Honore-Auguste engines all use the same common 6" bore, but this engine has the longest stroke of the company's three offerings at 6.94", which helps the engine develop low-RPM torque. Each bank of seven cylinders is offset from the bank behind it in a helical, or "corncob" arrangement, permitting optimal routing of intake and exhaust tracks to minimize the engine's diameter. A gear-driven centrifugal supercharger mounted to the front of the engine blows water-intercooled intake air into all cylinders through a 360mm (14") impeller; diesel fuel is shot at very high pressure directly into each cylinder where it is compressed and burned. The two-stroke engine has four massive gear-driven sleeve valves cut into each cylinder; sleeves are honed from Inconel 625 superalloy and machined to precise tolerances. The engine is timed entirely with gearwheels and ultralight titanium pushrods, making no use of belts or chains anywhere in the engine. The engine is cooled with pressurized, or dry-sump oiling; engine oil is passed through an oil/water heat exchanger, allowing a massive enclosure top-mounted radiator to draw in enough air to maintain optimum engine temperatures. Intake and exhaust lengths are ceramic coated to reject heat soak in the intake and to keep exhaust heat in the exhaust tract, which is silenced and electrostatically-filtered to minimize the generator's acoustic and visual signature. The power output shaft from the 6-row radial engine drives a mechanically simple and robust Permanent Magnet (brushless) AC generator which requires no special maintenance through its service life beyond simple lubrication. The generator produces 2.4 kilowatts of 240-volt, 60-Hz electricity, and is contained in a sound-deadened enclosure which reduces the sound of the running engine to 63 decibels; it is designed to be mechanically reliable, requiring major service every 100,000 hours.

Description:

The Culverin Haute Vitesse programme was instituted to study, develop, and produce a compact, hard-hitting middle-caliber gun for general use on Marquesan combat vehicles, remote combat vehicles, and small warships. Featuring prominently on the AWC.40 "Orcus" and LTD.75U "Heirophant" tracked vehicles, the 80-caliber high-velocity auto-rifle loads and fires without human intervention from a pair of 60-round helical drum magazines in the rear of the turret. The gun cycles at 160 rounds per minute, and can be fired in single shots, or in auto-limited bursts of 10 or 20 rounds. The gun can elevate to 90 degrees inside its turret, allowing for use as an air-defense weapon as it is on the AWC.40B "Orcus" MADS. Like other Marquesan cannon calibers, the two-piece barrel contains a rifled inner and a high-strength, high-temperature alloy outer liner, making the barrel lightweight, strong and field maintenance friendly. Two types of ammunition were developed for the 55mm gun; the HEDP round has a mission-selectable multimode fuze and a prefragmented steel body, packed with a mixture of tungsten carbide cubes and rods. Selectable fuzings for proximity, impact, and impact/time delay permit use against aerial and ground targets, making the 55.550.HEDP round extremely versatile; upon detonation, the wide distribution of fragments and blast produce kills on fast moving aircraft and missiles, as well as harder targets like fighting positions behind concrete cover, building fascades, etc. HEDP leaves the muzzle at 1,040 meters per second or just over Mach 3.0, with a 13,000 meter, or 8 mile range. Type-B ammunition is a FGV, or Flechette Grande Vitesse APDS round of similar design to the larger 110mm round. Encased in a nylon spindle-sabot, the 560x22mm dart leaves the muzzle at Mach 4.72, and, due to spin-stabilization, retains its accuracy to distances as great as 2.23 miles, or 3,600 meters. The 55mm FGV round is rated to perforate more than 22.5" of armor at 1 kilometer distance, making it capable of completely perforating both sides (in and out) of Russian T-72 armor at any angle, including through both sides of the turret. One of the most compact and powerful weapons in its class, the 55mm Culverin is a fearsome multipurpose gun with unusually high muzzle velocity and excellent rate of fire in a compact package.

Description:

A requirement for a lightweight, low-recoil field gun capable of being towed behind AEV.1650 "Elpis" electric prime movers resulted in the OLR.110 L/42 "Tempête" howitzer. Just over 2.3 tons in overall weight, the OLR.110, often known simply as the "110 Gun" mounts a 1.53 ton, 15-foot rifled barrel, with a horizontal, semi-automatic sliding wedge breech, firing 110x560mm low-pressure ammunition. The howitzer's box-trail carriage contains hydropneumatic dampers, which absorb the recoil of the gun and allow it to be fired with its wheels on the ground, speeding its transition time from march to firing. The gun can elevate to 80 degrees, and traverses a full circle in 7.5 seconds due to its gear-assisted manual traverse, and low-friction coated bearings. Ammunition is electrically primed, with a piezoelectric circuit in the breech block which produces near-perfect reliability. The gun produces highly accurate 3-dimensional gun laying and inertial targeting with ring laser gyroscopes and a computerized impact predictor that produces sub-5,000mm Circular Error Probable at the gun's maximum range. The Tempête howitzer is equipped with three ammunition types; Type-A is a heavy armor-piercing round with a tungsten ballistic cap. Type-B ammunition is a high-capacity high explosive shell carrying a high percentage of zirconium metal powder, which produces an enhanced blast with incendiary effects on target. Type-C ammunition uses a gas-generating base bleed unit and a long, aerodynamic lightweight nosecone to travel to more than 16 miles maximum distance, delivering its high explosive payload and prefragmented steel body at Mach 2.77 muzzle velocity, nearly 1.5x the speed of Type-A APBC, and more than twice the range.

Sharing its design genesis with the 42-caliber, 110mm "Tempête" howitzer, the 49-caliber direct fire rifle is a powerful, high velocity antitank gun in service with naval and ground arms of the FMA, its allies, and clients of Royal Marquesan Exports. The 110mm L/49 gun is armed primarily on TDA.25 "Ajax" tank destroyers, where the gun is armed on an oscillating turret. In the Ajax design, the turret's short and narrow bustle contains a pair of 20-round helical drum magazines for slender 110x720mm caseless rounds, the auto-ramming mechanism, gun laying servomotors and hydraulic recoil dampers. The gun's lower mantlet contains only traversing drives and electrohydraulic motors for elevation and depression. The oscillating turret design sheds considerable weight from the upper turret, and absorbs recoil by providing counterweight. Isolating ammunition from the crew compartment enhances safety, while allowing for remote reloading without the need for the crew to exit the vehicle. The upper mantlet recoils with the unitary barrel almost 700mm on firing; a muzzle brake helps to dissipate the intense recoil energy produced by the 110mm gun's high-velocity ammunition. The barrel is covered along its entire length with a thermoelectric cooling sleeve, which mitigates the barrel's thermal signature. Two types of ammunition were developed for the 110mm L/49; an armor-piercing, high-strength steel case HE round with a tungsten ballistic cap is Type-A, useful for knocking out bunkers, buildings, infrastructure targets and nearly all armored vehicles. 110.720.APBC ammunition leaves the muzzle at Mach 2.74, and has an effective range of more than 14 miles if fired at the gun's maximum 32° elevation. Type-B ammunition is a Flechette Grande Vitesse, or APFSDS dart round, constructed from depleted uranium/titanium alloy. Carried through the rifled barrel in a nylon spindle sabot, the slender 800mm dart is stabilized in flight by rotation, imparting remarkable accuracy that allows the round to retain its usefulness at more than two and a half miles. The dart leaves the muzzle at Mach 4.74, and at a kilometer of range, is rated to perforate (pass through) more than 32 inches of armor. The 110mm L/49 is used extensively by Marquesan "Sea Dragon" naval infantry, and is also aboard Amaterasu-class Patrol Boat Destroyers.

Description:

The LRR.110.L/31 recoilless rifle, known by its development codename, "Vipère", is a crew-served infantry weapon employed by the Forces Marquises aux Armes and allies abroad. The weapon is transported on a lightweight wheeled carriage, with a pintle-style weapon mount that permits 360° traverse in its combat configuration with wheels stowed. In a travel configuration, the wheels are locked in a vertical configuration and the barrel is stowed against the weapon's towbar, making it compact and simple to transport being towed behind almost any motorized vehicle, or moved short distances by its three-man crew. The barrel is composed of a high-strength, high-temperature Inconel superalloy outer sleeve, and a special, ultrahard titanium carbonitride-coated titanium rifled inner sleeve are both lightweight and extremely strong; the titanium liner is replaceable in the field with a quick-disconnect camlock style detachment. The weapon is loaded from the breech; when fired, the CTRR, or Case-Telescoped Recoilless Rifle design vents backward through a venturi, equalizing pressure on both sides of the barrel and negating the felt recoil of the powerful 1,045mm length cartridges. The primary ammunition type was developed with the rifle, and is referred to as the HEILR missile. HEILR stands for High-Explosive Incendiary, Laser-Riding; the 11-kilogram round contains an ultralight 5.2-kilogram missile, which relies on spin stabilization for stability in flight and leaves the muzzle at 620 meters per second, or Mach 1.8. The fuze is decoupled from the spinning body by a bearing ring; fins on the fuze provide steering input, and a laser spot receiver receives reflected laserlight from a properly-encoded battlefield laser. Once the round has left the barrel, it has sufficient energy to maneuver against a moving target at distances up to 1,200 meters. When fired at fixed targets, the round does not expend energy in flight maneuvering, and can strike point targets at 7,600 meters distance. The 2-kilogram high explosive warhead contains a 2:1 mixture of CL-20 and HMX high explosives, a shock-insensitive but extremely powerful mixture, blended with 10% beryllium powder to create a powerful incendiary effect, sufficient to defeat 620mm of modern armor. The Vipère recoilless rifle is capable of a sustained rate-of-fire of 8 rounds per minute, operating with a crew of three comprised of a spotter with a laser designator, the rifle gunner, and a loader.

Description:

The GC130.L45.AL smoothbore gun was developed specifically for the Chimera Mk. V main battle tank programme. The 45-caliber smoothbore gun was designed around its FGV, or Flechette Grande Vitesse round, a 715x40mm fin-stabilized depleted uranium dart which leaves the muzzle traveling at Mach 5.4. With a maximum practical engagement zone exceeding four miles, the 130mm FGV is rated to penetrate nearly 820mm or more than 33" of armor at a kilometer, retaining much of its deadly striking power at far greater distances. The smoothbore barrel is stabilized with robust servomotors which allow for precise computer-controlled gun laying and firing. An electrothermal cooling sleeve runs the full length of the barrel, which is crowned rather than equipped with a muzzle brake to enhance downrange accuracy. Ammunition is stored in a 48-round carousel ring autoloader, with blowout panels on either side of the magazine in case of uncontrolled detonations from an ATGM or APFSFS strike. Two ammunition types are carried by the Chimera Mk. V MBT; the FGV round described earlier, and a fin-stabilized HE round, which carries a laser spot receiver in its nosecone. Using SALH, (semi-active laser homing) the round is guided by a coded battlefield laser shot from the tank, leaving the muzzle at Mach 2.76, with a maximum effective range of nearly 8 miles. The HELFS round allows pinpoint strikes at great distance, decreasing the number of rounds to be fired to knock out a given target. The gun loads at 14 rounds per minute, loading and firing by command with no human intervention. Computer control precisely adjusts the gun positioning to adjust for environmental variables, range and ballistics experience; each shot is recorded and firing/flight data is shared between Chimera tanks, enhancing the accuracy of fired shots by building detailed range and ballistic tables the computer references in firing.

The 130/B2-65SR twin naval gun mount, often referred to by its development codename, Janus, is the culmination of decades of international cooperation and development between several nations currently operating the Janus system across multiple regions. The version of this system in service aboard Marquesan ships fires the 130x850mm combustible-case round, with a large, 900-round magazine for three ammunition types. The gun operates on a 4,000mm "fast" barbette, which is employed on ships as small as the Akurra-class Fast Missile Frigate, Der RE's Tempestas-class Artillery Light Frigate, and the Nachmerean Shaldag class Corvette, as well ships as large as Marquesan Abraxas-class Battlecruisers, and aboard Anagonian Titus Bond-class cruisers with A5-73SR single-gun turrets based on the Janus mechanisms. Twin-barrel Janus mountings pair the reloading mechanisms for both guns together effectively doubling the rate of fire for the single turret. Each barrel may operate at a sustained "half-speed" indefinitely, the relatively-low muzzle velocity of the three heavy ammunition types does not excessively wear the 65-caliber rifled barrels, and liquid cooling along the entire barrel length effectively manages heat dissipation; improved combustible-case guns remove the need to eject spent shells, leading to a simplified, monolithic receiver, breech block, rammer, and ammunition feeds. The Janus gun system strikes an ideal balance between heat, reloading speed, shell weight and propellant-efficiency. Short full-speed (160 RPM) bursts of 40 rounds can be strung together in sequences of all three ammunition types before firing, with the computer automatically correcting gun laying drives to adjust barrel position, traversing the turret to strike multiple targets with the same string, and firing automatically, including pauses in the string for aiming. At the half-speed setting, the ship's gunnery crew may manually or automatically operate the gun, which computes firing solutions for enhanced accuracy in either manual or automatic fire modes.

Three ammunition types have been authorized for use on Marquesan Janus guns, however there is no restriction on additional ammunition types being developed elsewhere. Type-A ammunition is a hardened-steel shell with a tungsten carbide ballistic cap; the 108-lb projectiles can be fired to a distance of 11 miles with devastating effects on warships and hard targets like bunkers and hangars. Type-B ammunition is a pre-fragmented steel body with a high percentage of filler, consisting of CL-20/HMX co-crystalline high explosive. Type-B has a maximum range of nearly 26 miles, leaving the muzzle at Mach 2.38, and is guided into its target by battlefield lasers, typically shot from a loitering drone to produce pinpoint accuracy against general battlefield targets. Type-C ammunition fires a sub-caliber finned projectile carrying a miniature ring-laser gyroscope for inertial navigation, and a Long-Wave Infrared (LWIR) sensor in its nosecone. The projectile guides itself to a designated target area by inertial guidance; upon descent, the LWIR seeker searches for a target matching the thermal profile programmed in at firing; this target selection can be done in advance using latest field intelligence and imagery to pinpoint targets before firing. Type-C can be fired to a distance of more than 70 miles with pinpoint accuracy, allowing entire strings to be fired before the first round strikes its target, maximizing the element of surprise. The Janus system is compact, robust, and powerful, affording light cruiser firepower to warships of many sizes and purposes, and featuring prominently on Marquesan surface warships of all sizes.

Bridging the gap between heavier towed or self-propelled howitzers and lighter infantry mortars, the MLR 155mm "Ōtsuchi" heavy mortar is a towed artillery piece designed for high-elevation fire from a compact, breech-loading barrel. The barrel itself, 155mm in internal diameter and 18 calibers long, is a two-piece construction, with a high-strength, high temperature Inconel superalloy outer sleeve, and a superhard titanium carbonitrate-coated steel inner barrel sleeve, which saves weight while allowing the inner sleeve to be replaced in the field as it wears out without rebuilding the entire piece. Known by its development codename, the Ōtsuchi mortar is named after a traditional spiked war club used for breeching doors and walls. Designed to be towed behind a wide array of wheeled or tracked vehicle, the 155mm mortar travels with mortar teams behind their vehicles, and is pushed into final position by its mortar team. In a travel configuration, the mortar's barrel is fixed to the tow bar, allowing for simple, expedient transport. When deployed, the mortar's baseplate rests on the ground and the wheels are elevated; the barrel, free of its travel lock, can elevate up to 90°, and the entire assembly can traverse 360° in only 18 seconds with a gear-assisted fast manual traverse. The recoil carriage uses hydropneumatic unpowered dampers to absorb the barrel's rearward motion on firing, with a mature, well-developed recoil system that is robust and reliable. The mortar is capable of sustaining 20 rounds per minute with a wide variety of shells, each contained in a 620mm Case-Telescoped combustible shell which simplifies transport of live ammunition. Four ammunition types are used by the MRR.155.L/15; the lightest, aerodynamic shell has a long-wave infrared (LWIR) sensor in its nosecone, activated once the round has crossed its ballistic apogee. Type-B ammunition is "dumb" high-explosive, steel case ammunition, fuzed either for impact or time delay, ideal for destruction of buildings in urban combat. Type-C ammunition carries 10x 2-kilogram prefragmented high-explosive cluster munitions, which are fuzed to airburst at 5m above ground level. Type-D heavy armor piercing shells weigh 57.2 kilograms, comprised of a heavy steel case with tungsten ballistic cap, and a high explosive filler. Type-D ammunition is fuzed for impact delay, allowing it to penetrate into hardened and reinforced concrete or rock before detonating, transmitting most of its kinetic energy downward into the target rather than upward into an explosive plume.

Description:

The GCR.180/L48 gun system is a modular 180mm artillery rifle in service with ground and naval services of the Forces Marquises aux Armes. In its twin-gun naval mounting, the system is referred to by its development codename, Talos. The Talos system duplicates the single gun in a vertical stack, with a unified loading mechanism that separates three ammunition types and their powder charges in separated magazines, with revolving cylinders above the magazine that unify the round and charge before feeding up to the guns. Strings of fire can be preselected and pretargeted by the gunnery crew before firing; the barrels are electrohydraulically stabilized, and recover recoil energy as electricity through resistance flywheels in the gunhouse. Both barrels may fire simultaneously, or may be (most commonly) loaded and fired opposite one another by computerized timing. Since each gun fires seven rounds per minute, each Talos system may fire at 14 rounds per minute; on the Shora class cruiser carrying four of these systems, the ship may produce a continuous stream of 7.1" gunfire at 56 rounds per minute. The turret, its autoloading mechanism, both guns, turret and gun hydraulics and the gun shield weigh 65.6 tons, with a slender, vertically-stacked gunhouse. 180mm Talos guns and single mountings are rated to fire three ammunition types, though there is no prohibition on extranational development of additional rounds. Type-A ammunition is armor piercing, with each assembled high-strength steel case and tungsten carbide ballistic cap weighing in at 201.61 pounds ready-to-fire. The 48-caliber Talos gun fires these projectiles to a maximum range of nearly 10 miles, at a muzzle velocity just above Mach 2. Type-B ammunition is a finned, laser-guided "smart" shell which uses a laser spot receiver to navigate the shell along an intercept trajectory with a reflected source of coded laserlight. A battlefield laser fired from the cruiser to a target in the air will have its pulses reflected by a target which Type-B ammunition homes onto, producing lethal accuracy with 7.1" prefragmented HE shells against a wide variety of air targets. Type-B can be fired at ranges of up to 15.5 miles, with a muzzle velocity of just under Mach 2.5. Type-C ammunition is a canister shell containing eight submunitions; varied mission profiles call for various shell loads. Common fillers are white phosphorous and magnesium powder (smoke/illumination) rounds, liquid incendiary ("napalm") rounds, or runway busters, which pierce concrete with sharply-spiked hardened steel ballistic caps, detonating after a delay which allows them to penetrate the bed of the runway, causing difficult-to-repair damage across a dispersed area. Type-C can be fired against targets at 24.6 miles range, with a muzzle velocity just under Mach 2.75.

Description:

The 38-caliber, 180mm howitzer is a ground-based adaption of the 180mm, 48-caliber "Janus" naval gun system for use on AGA.47 "Amarok-A" tracked artillery systems. Using much of the same design architecture with a compact bustle-storage for its unitary case propellant charges and 20 rounds of each ammunition type, the 38-caliber Howitzer is designed to decrease the barrel length of existing Marquesan artillery systems without decreasing their effectiveness or significantly affecting their range. The 180mm L/38 gun is capable of continuous fire at 7 rounds per minute; with extended range provided by base bleed ammunition, as many as nine rounds can be fired from a single barrel before the first fired round strikes at 25 kilometers range. Two ammunition types have been standardized for the GOR.180/L38 Howitzer thought it is capable of firing ammunition designed for the 180mm naval gun as well, though at decreased muzzle velocity and range. Type A ammunition is a base-bleed, high-capacity high explosive shell, which leaves the muzzle at Mach 2.36 and has a thin, high-strength steel casing allowing a maximum load of zirconium-enhanced, shock-insensitive modern high explosive. Type-B ammunition is a conventional, thick-wall armor-piercing shell, with a tungsten carbide ballistic cap, allowing it to penetrate deeply into reinforced concrete before detonating. Type-B ammunition leaves the muzzle at Mach 1.69, and travels to a maximum of 18,200 meters.

30,000,000 NSD.

The 420mm L/46 gun is the primary cannon armament equipping FBC.915 "Abraxas" class Fast Battlecruisers. The gun is mounted for this platform in a pair of superfiring two-gun turrets, each capable of 270° traverse with unbroken firing arcs over the bow and to either side of the ship. Guns elevate separately of each other, to a maximum of 45°, separated in their turrets by blast walls the same 216mm thickness as the rest of the turret's construction. Each turret contains rangefinding and muzzle velocity radars which interface with the ship's computer and central gun direction to produce extremely accurate firing plots and automated firing strings to address surface targets. Each barrel is more than 63 feet in length, with a 16.5" rifled bore; four hydraulic recuperators frame each corner of the gun, recoiling 1.2 meters against its hydraulic pistons when fired. Each gun loads and fires by computer control with human observation and maintenance; robotic armatures manipulate the ammunition and propellant bags inside the turret housings, replacing roles once staffed by sailors. Each gun can sustain a cyclic rate-of-fire of four rounds per minute in combat, requiring fifteen seconds between firings to return to battery, vent the barrel, load an additional shell and charge bags and once again seal the breech. Ammunition is held in below-deck magazines, each gun equipped with fifty (50) rounds of each ammunition type, so that each turret is carrying 200 loaded rounds in ring-type rotating magazines, with rounds and propellant bags manipulated by robotic armatures, supervised by human operators. Two ammunition types are standardized for the 420 Super; Type-A is armor piercing, with a tungsten ballistic cap and a 50 kilogram bursting charge comprised of CL-20 and HMX explosives, mixed with zirconium, enhancing blast characteristics behind armor or in confined bunkers. Type-A has a 33,000 meter unassisted range, without base bleed or rocket propulsion; service ammunition weighs nearly 3,200 pounds, and leaves the muzzle at Mach 2.36. The tremendous power of Type-A armor piercing ammunition is complimented by accuracy enhanced by independently stabilized barrels, and by the gyroscopically-stabilized battlecruiser itself; Abraxas' tall observation towers and light-gathering binoculars allow physical observation of Type-A ammunition in day or night conditions. Type-B ammunition is a lighter, longer shell with a base bleed module, together dramatically decreasing the aerodynamic drag of the shell and increasing its range to 66,000 meters. At 41 miles, the fall of Type-B ammunition must be observed with radar; the nearly 2,300 pound shells leave the muzzle just below Mach 3. Firing at maximum range, the Abraxas class FBC has time to fire 26 rounds before the first shell fired strikes the ground, with tremendous surprise effect. Type-B ammunition carries a large, 200-kilogram metallized bursting charge, and can be fuzed to detonate near the ground or on impact; proximity fuzing produces devastating airbursts which can completely raze large swaths of jungle or built-up urban structures with just a few shots.

- Description: -
CANDELS stands for Canisterized Delivery Standard, and describes a fully-modular missile storage and delivery system for Marquesan-built warships. CANDELS launchers are loaded at port or at sea by overhead crane; each missile is pre-loaded into a dry storage container which integrates an annular exhaust system, so that the missile's hot exhaust is diverted safely upward at the moment of launch. The container's outer lid is spring-loaded, operated by a magnetic lock, which is disengaged at the moment of ignition. After firing, the container's lid is brought back down by an electric motor and the electo-magnetic lock re-engaged, to seal the launcher. The inner lid, also spring loaded, is released by explosive bolts, fired at the moment of ignition, only then exposing the missile. Once fired, the closing of the outer lid shuts the inner canister lid. Launchers can exhaust their entire magazine in sequential-fire, ripple-fire or individually-selected firing sequences, with firing order and targeting data provided by the ship's sensors. CANDELS launchers equip a wide array of Marquesan warships and classes operated by allied nations and foreign customers, and can be armed with any missile fitting within the cell dimensions, thanks to a modular electronics suite capable of recreating any known solid-fueled missile's wiring loom with minimal preparatory work.

CANDELS-I launchers are above-deck arm-type launchers, carryingeight missiles in airtight, watertight Fiber-Reinforced Polymer launch cells, which are opened at the moment of launch. Rocket exhaust from the missile firing blows through the rear of the tube as the missile exits, and missiles begin their arming sequences once free of the launcher. The launchers integrate with shipborne electro-optical and radar fire control, which interface with the missile's own optical trackers once armed, providing an extremely high kill-ratio for missiles fires from the C-I launcher, which is just under 3.8 meters in width, just over 3.5 meters in length and 2.5 meters in height, with a loaded system weight of 13.3 tons including its below-deck magazine and autoloader.

CANDELS-II launchers are vertical launch systems for arrays of 16 tactical-length missiles, such as Morningstar cruise missiles, Corseque radar-homing missiles and Pilum hypersonic interceptors. The C-II launcher can also be configured to fire Varuna artillery rockets, which have launch cells half the size of the larger missiles, allowing a single ship to carry a wide array of weapons. The 16-missile system is 4.05 meters in length and width, requiring 6 meters below deck and adequate structural reinforcement around the array.

CANDELS-III describes a much larger system of 64 strike-length missiles, such as the long-range, high-supersonic Ahriman SAM, the Sarissa anti-ship missile, or the Trishula rocket-launched torpedo. Each C-III array is 7.05 meters in length, 7.8 meters in width and requires 8 meters below deck to contain the sealed missile canisters and structural reinforcement around the array.

CANDELS-IV describes a 16-missile array for large-frame heavyweight missiles such as the Hydra anti-ballistic missile, the Summanus hypersonic boost-glide missile and Makara theater ballistic missile. The massive size and weight of these missiles dictates that a large amount of structural reinforcement is between each rank of cells, and the entire array is 6.7 meters in length and 7.5 meters in width as a result, requiring 12 meters below decks. Fully loaded, the C-IV vertical launch system can weigh as much as 144 tons, but can be configured with any number of weapons systems, altering the absolute maximum weight of the final configuration. C-IV launchers equip the Strix-class nuclear attack submarine, which briefly surfaces to fire its complement of long-range strategic missiles.

CANDELS-V is an entirely different system, cold-launching SLBM's while the submarine is submerged at a depth of 50 meters, with the assistance of a high-capacity gas generator to fire 43.7-ton Immortal-II's without exposing the Ravana-class submarines that carry CANDELS-V.

- Description: -

The "Minerva" system evolved from weapon and systems developed for other purposes, combined together to create a powerful Close-In-Weapon-System for general use on Marquesan and allied warships. The Minerva Combined Arms Defense System, or CADS for short combines the powerful 38x290mm "Twin-Triples" rotary gun with two low-profile four-round launchers for "Bayonet" heat-seeking missiles mounted to a low-profile turret, wider than it is tall. The long, counter-rotating barrels of the gun produce very high muzzle velocity with half-kilogram PHEI "thin-wall" shells, which detonate in proximity to the target with hypervelocity shockwaves which interact with each other, producing mach stems that tear apart airborne targets like missiles, drones and aircraft. The super-agile Bayonet missile has a very long range for a compact weapon of its type, able to destroy targets out to nearly 90 kilometers, greater than 50 miles. Bayonet flies above Mach 4 and rolls to turn against its targets at 100 g. The high-definition thermal seeker and annular blast-fragmentation warhead carried by AHM.201R2 makes it deadly, combining a long, wide no-escape zone, excellent high altitude performance and speed that permits it to chase and intercept supersonic aircraft in tail-on engagements up to 20,000 meters altitude. Fire control for the gun is provided by a fixed-panel "Deneb" AESA radar, utilizing the latest in low-power solid-state radar technology to produce an ultra compact design that fits on the turret face and provides extremely accurate ballistics data and targeting for the rotary gun out to its maximum point-target range. Optical targeting is provided by an independent "Volans" Optronics Ball mounted to the turret, with a powerful telephoto zoom attached to the central lens of a Focal Plane Array camera that aligns M/LWIR sensors and visible light CCD's together to provide ultra high resolution targeting out to extreme distances and in poor weather. The sophisticated Volans ball is highly resistant to battlefield obscurants like dust and oil smoke, poor weather and directed energy countermeasures; it provides optical targeting which is fused to the output of the turret's radar and used for tracking high speed and low-RCS targets caught in its protective envelope.

Name: "Hachiman" APS
Nation of Origin: The Marquesan Union, Gholgoth
Classification: Hard-Kill Active Protection System
Average Response Time: 300 Microseconds
Launcher Description: 3x6-Shot Arrays (Frontal Arc & LH/RH Turret)
Missile Description: High-Impulse Smokeless Rocket (10-40m Engagement)
Warhead Description: 5-Kg Directed-Blast Warhead w/ 2-Kgs Octol
Sensor Description: x4 Coherent Doppler-Lidar Arrays, 130° FOV (Front & Rear LH/RH Turret)
Effective Against: RPG's, Antitank Guided Missiles

The "Hachiman" Hard-Kill APS defends the Chimera Mk. V tank from rocket propelled grenades and antitank guided missiles using compact CDL (Coherent Doppler-Lidar) sensors fixed to both sides of the front and rear of the tank's turret. Each sensor has a 130-degree field of view, providing overlapping coverage of all angles surrounding the tank. Munitions passing through the tank's sphere of detection and not on an intercept course will not be acted on, only a round with a trajectory intersecting the body of the tank will be fired upon. Two launchers are fitted to the turret roof facing normally left and right, each housing two reloadable kill vehicles, which fire a short duration, high impulse rocket. The rocket receives its detonation signal from the Hachiman system, engaging targets between 10 and 40 meters from the vehicle with a directed-blast CL-20 warhead. Hachiman intercepts the hostile weapon before it reaches the tank at a safe distance so that infantry may accompany tracked armor without danger of being injured or killed by the APS by destroying the hostile weapon.
