@Marquesan I hereby proclaim you as the Gothic Mad Scientist, who actually isn't mad but a brilliant genius which every nations military goes to consult when they quietly tell their leaders, "We'll consult our experts" and when asked who they always say "private sources"
@Marquesan I will say man you're the only person on NS I've ever mistaken for a genuine Weapons designer.

Production Notes: At the time of its first military flight in 1948, the F.108 program was a state secret, kept out of the public eye until trials were complete. With a top speed of Mach 1.27, Apsara was among the first military production aircraft in the world capable of supersonic speeds in level flight, with 20 minutes of fuel for full reheat (afterburner) flight at Mach 1.27 above 26,000 feet, or sea-level penetration flights just over 1,000 kilometers per hour, or Mach 0.87. At the aircraft's 860 Km/H cruise speed, Apsara has an hour and a half of fuel, covering almost 800 miles overall. Takeoff and landing speeds are low, requiring a 1,700' runway for ground based operations, though the Apsara fighter was always intended to be navalized. Apsara is rated to operate at 55,000 feet altitude, and has a 16,600 foot-per-minute climb rate, allowing it to reach that altitude in only 3 minutes, 20 seconds. The aircraft is 42 feet in length, with wings which fold just inside the midway point so that with wings folded, Apsara is only 15' wide. 360 square feet of 45-degree swept, high-speed wing and a T-shaped empennage contribute to low wing loading and excellent agility. The cockpit is high-mounted with a sloped nose forward which does not interfere with pilot visibility. The annular engine intake contains a shock-cone mounted radar transmitter, with the ring carrying smaller radar receivers in a configuration resembling a crown, giving rise to the radar targeting system being named "Royal Crown". The engine, a Netane Kinetics AJR.4860 axial turbojet is one of the most powerful early turbojets in the world sharing similarity of design to the Armstrong-Siddeley Sapphire, Wright J65, and Rolls-Royce Avon. The engine delivers 4,859 kilograms of thrust at full throttle (called Military Power) and with afterburner (referred to as Reheat) activated, the engine produces just over 7,000 kilograms of thrust, producing a thrust-to-weight ratio of 0.85 to 1 with full fuel tanks and a full combat load.

A nose-mounted air intake contains a shock cone which houses the primary transmitter of Apsara's "Couronne Royale" radar array. Concealed inside the shock cone, a Cassegrain antenna powered by a 250 kW X-band transmitter provides air intercept for large targets at distances of up to 80 kilometers. The Couronne Royale transmitter can be switched into a terrain-following mode in which its X-band antenna is used to scan the ground in a U-shape forward of the aircraft, and to predict a flight path that overflies the terrain features by a selectable height between 30 and 300 meters. In contested airspace, the transmitter can be switched off, allowing passive S-band, and E/F band antennae to operate in either passive scan or homing mode. S-band transmitters commonly used for ground-based radars can be detected at ranges of up to 200 kilometers, which the Apsara fighter may follow to their sources with its own radar switched off. E/F band receivers detect jamming signals, and can home the aircraft on those jamming signals with its own transmitter turned off. These capabilities optimize Apsara for a night attack role, in which a low-level, high subsonic attack is carried out at night, dropping 250-kilogram gravity bombs on target from as low as 30 meters over ground level. The MPARS.250 radar system provides a 5" CRT display for the pilot, one of the world's first true Heads Up Displays, which provides targeting, displays radar imaging of the ground below at night, and shows plot prediction for bombs, guns, rockets and for terrain following. The combined passive/active radar and targeting array made the Apsara fighter one of the most effective weapon systems of its day, produced in small numbers but to devastating effect.

The platform is optimized for carrying powerful air-to-surface rocket pods with a combination of 80mm and 140mm rockets carried on eight wing-mounted hardpoints. 36 pound, 3.1" Stiletto rockets are either armed with HEFRAG general purpose warheads carrying 2,200 1.3-gram flechettes and a high explosive charge, or LUCIFER rockets, which carry a fine powdered mixture of white phoshphorous and magnesium powder, which is highly pyrophoric and burns on contact with air and water while producing a glowing, incandescent cloud, useful for illuminating ground targets during night attacks. 98 pound, 5.5" Kestros rockets either carry HEAPC concrete-buster rockets or THERM thermobaric airburst rockets, which carry an ammonium nitrate fuel, with a bursting charge that scatters the fuel into a cloud, and then an ignition charge which bursts a few moments after, causing the fuel-rich cloud to mix with atmospheric oxygen, creating an immensely powerful explosion, useful for attacking both targets in the open and also for destruction of buildings, cave systems, bunkers, etc. Up to eight 250-kilogram bombs can be carried in a wide variety of configurations, the most common having a high-drag tailfin attached which rapidly decelerates the bomb once released. The tailkit's four petals expand as the bomb is released, giving the fighter additional time and distance from the detonating bomb, allowing for very low level weapon releases, a common practice for Apsara pilots. At either wingroot, Apsara carries a dual-barrel, recoil-driven AC30.L/58/2 autocannon. Operating on the Gast Principle, the guns feed from 952-round helical drum magazines sitting behind the cockpit, with the recoil from each fired round powering the reloading action of the opposite barrel. The guns fire linked belts of prefragmented high explosive shells and high-strength steel APCR (Armor Piercing Composite Rigid) slugs. Linked at a 4:1 ratio, the spent belt links and brass shell casings are ejected from ports on the underside of the wing, and gun gases are excluded by placing the intake forward and centered between the guns. The AC30 autocannon fires at a fully-automatic 4,080 RPM, with user-selectable 68-round, 1 second or 136-round, 2 second automatic fire limiters. The pair of AC30's produces tight, dense bursts of fire, useful against aircraft at 2,000 meters and against surface targets at 3,000 meters. 80mm (3.1") Stiletto rockets have a maximum engagement range of 4,600 meters, and 140mm (5.5") Kestros rockets are accurate to just under 7,600 meters distance. The Apsara fighter's radar-aimed gunsight shows plotted point prediction for rocket impacts, used to devastating effect.

At the time of Apsara's first flight, it was the only supersonic fighter in Esvanovia, and one of a handful in the world. Though limited in range by its fuel tanks, it had a nearly-unmatched climb rate and remarkable agility, with low wing loading even at a full combat load. Its hard-hitting armament package allowed for either carrying eight gravity bombs optimized for low-level weapon release, or 60 rockets, in addition to a pair of 30mm autocannons. Sorely lacking however, was the need for an accurate missile capable of hitting a moving air target like a fighter or a bomber. The missile that won class acceptance in 1954 uses semi-active radar homing where the missile interfaces with the fighter's radar for guidance to the target area. Since the beam increases in width over longer distances, the missile carries a small passive receiver onboard, which homes in on reflected energy from the target, or can home in on jamming signals, since that radar energy coming from the target is in the same frequency range. Flying at Mach 2.65 to nearly 67,000 feet altitude or 12.67 miles from the fighter, the Shingami missile's powerful annular blast/fragmentation warhead and accurate guidance made it a powerful tool for interception of hostile aircraft; Apsara fighters configured for interception roles would commonly carry four Shingami missiles and a pair of 1,650-pound external fuel tanks, giving an extra 1.5 tons overall fuel and additional range for escorting bombers, roughly 40% additional fuel which could be jettisoned when hostile aircraft were encountered. Apsara served from 1948 to 1971, during which time it served initially as a naval ground attack fighter and then in its later years as an interceptor carrying air-to-air missiles. Its potent armament package allowed for its continued usefulness even after its retirement from front line duty due to favorable handling characteristics and good high-speed performance. Apsara was operated from the Ahura Mazda class carriers during the 1950s, 60s and 70s as Marine Royale's primary fighter. Corps Guerre Aeronavale employed the Apsara fighter in its La Sirenes all-female aerobatic demonstration team until replaced by the Revenant fighter in 2000.

Overview:

The Aéro-F.XVI "Divine Wind" is an air superiority fighter designed to maximize the user’s ability to control the airspace over an enemy target, defeating enemy fighters through a full suite of armaments and electronics that utilize cutting edge technology to give the “Divine Wind” its dominance in the skies. Featuring a sleek titanium honeycomb construction with two MTV45.112R thrust vectoring turbofans as a powerplant, the “Divine Wind” is constructed with one purpose in mind: clear the skies of enemy fighters and assert strategic and tactical control over the airspace of an enemy. Its supercruise performance of just under 5,000 kilometers in three hours and ten minutes operating at Mach 1.26 is rated by Royal Marquesan Exports as one of the best performing fighters in the world, achieving its maximum service ceiling of 20,000 meters in 63 seconds at 315 meters per second. The “Divine Wind” is capable of traveling at Mach 1.96 for over 30 minutes of burn time, giving it a speed and agility in the air that gives it its reputation as an air dominance fighter.

This single-seat fighter is the most expensive fighter program in the history of Royal Marquesan Exports, and represents the cutting edge of air superiority and airspace denial ingenuity. Battle tested and reliable to a fault, the “Divine Wind” is the ultimate platform for your air superiority needs. The aircraft is designed to be agile, maneuverable, and quick on the stick for its pilots. Its armaments loadout includes two internal carousels for four missiles each, with a typical sortie of around 2,960 kilograms, or 6,526 pounds of ordinance. Royal Marquesan Exports recommends the FCR.185 “Misericorde” heat-seeking missiles and the FLCR.146 “Corseque” radar-homing missiles from our available stockpile of armaments. The “Divine Wind” is capable enough to be used for some air-to-ground tactical maneuvers thanks to its flawless design and sleek aero profile. But for sheer, raw power and prestige, the “Divine Wind” is second-to-none in the world when it comes to airspace denial and exerting dominance over enemy fighters in the skies.
