So a soccer player for Australia's national team, the Matildas, got in legal trouble in London for calling a police officer a "white bastard", which has now sparked a debate about whether or not it's possible to be racist against white people, as white people are "in a position of privilege".

You can probably already guess my stance on the matter considering the thread title (and in case it needs to be spelt out, the title is sarcastic), but I find the whole thing ridiculous. Aside from the fact that we can't even agree on who's considered white (do Arabs, Greeks, Italians, Latinos, etc. count as white? I've argued no, and as a Greek, I don't consider myself to be white, but that's a different matter, which can be discussed here, I suppose), I don't think someone should get into legal trouble for racist comments, it's a ridiculous thing to get the law involved with, but if you can, at least be consistent. My parents and grandparents were called every racial slur under the sun, and I've even copped some racial abuse, and let me tell you something, it sucks. It fucking sucks! And it's no less suckish if it happens to a white person.

The whole incident occurred when Kerr was in England to play a soccer game and failed to pay a taxi fare, which is how the police got involved in the first place.

We even have experts weighing in saying that no, it's not racist, and NSW premier, Chris Minns, has copped shit for agreeing.

And yea, not all white people are privileged. A millionaire soccer player (i.e. Kerr) is much more privileged than your average copper, and even on a non-individual scale, Japanese people (in general) are in a much better position of "privilege" than most Ukrainians. Does that mean that it's acceptable for Ukrainians to go around calling people "nip" ad nauseum. I don't instructional racism justifies racist slurs. Even assuming for instructional racism, the accident of birth that made you white and beneficiary of it isn't your fault, and you shouldn't be racially abused for it. If Kerr were white, she would have lost her career in a heartbeat, but now the Australian soccer organisation is standing behind here. I don't think that people should face legal consequences for racism (whether or not you keep your career is a different matter), but if you're going to do it, at least be consistent. What do you think, NSG?

No one should have The SJW card. Racism is racism if someone insults someone because of their skin tone, religion or ethnic group. Shouldn't be able to use the privilege of "reverse racism" using a the dark skin pantone card privilege.
If you insult anyone based on their skin tone or else you cannot tell that your skin is darker than the insulted one so they deserve being insulted or say that you are unprivileged.

It's less that it's America-centric, because it's also quite common in Europe and Australia, and more that they just want socially acceptable forms of racism, in this case almost always manifesting as anti-white or anti-Asian racism. They want to see themselves as above those silly right-wing racists and so they invented a new definition to make themselves feel superior while engaging in a lot of the same mindsets and behavior.

Race relations is absolutely something the modern mainstream western left not only fumbled on, they straight up kicked the ball into another stadium, and the situation pretty much everywhere is worse for it.
