My childhood cat decided I was hers. She had her kittens in my room and not only refused to have them moved, but when I moved to the spare room for a night she moved the kittens into the spare room in the middle of the night and bitched me out in cat when I found her mid-move.

One roommate's cat would wait for me to come home (where I'd inevitably have to pee) and then run to the bathroom and stand on the sink waiting for me to do my thing so he could jump up on my shoulders and hang there like a shawl until my rooommate asked for her cat back.

A different roommate's cat just decided to hang out at the trailer I was renting with his buddy the other giant cat on the one dead end private road on the side of a mountain in a forest where we lived. Which meant when something large and fury was in the corner of my field of vision I didn't think about it until I almost pet a raccoon after my chips. The raccoon was not impressed with my screaming like a small girl and kinda sauntered off.

The closest I came to a cat of my own is my roommate's girlfriend insisting that two dudes who could barely take care of each other take in a feral kitten that attacked her. So I lived with that little asshole while my roommate spent all his time at his girlfriend's place. That cat hated everything and every one. Got her claw stuck in my nose once...

Good evening,
I have a cat, a normal house cat. Originally a family pet, she moved to me via an eight hour train ride (during which I stuck a finger into her carrier so that she didn't feel alone) when my Mother had to go to the hospital (she got better). The cat's name is Fleckchen (little spot).

I once bought her a new toy, one of these fleece animals you can stuff with some herb or the other to make it more interesting. Usually, they come with cat grass, which is exciting enough. This one came with valerian. Valerian, on humans, is used to put people to sleep, so I expected to see Fleckchen cuddle the thing in her sleep soon... yeah, Valerian is apparently very exciting for cats. While Fleckchen was rampaging through the room, I googled. Essentially, I put her on speed, accidentally.
Lesson for you lot: Valerian only when you know, what you are doing. ; )

A bobcat occasionally takes up in my hay barn when the season does not call for the bales to be moved about.

Cat person here, 100%.

I’ve had cats, on and off, throughout my adult life. While in Spain, I had three cuties: Hitomi (a white and brown cat), Zero (a tuxedo) and Neneko (a petite long haired tabby). Gave them to my friends when I had to move countries because my living situation was uncertain. After marriage, I adopted a gray and white Maine Coon named Misty and she was my stink bug for five years until her passing in 2019 at age 15. We adopted her when she was 10 years old. She was amazing and helped me through a tough health situation.

Now I have a tabby named Gigi. I adopted her in AR at the tail end of 2020. Or rather, she adopted me. The minute the cage was opened, she came straight to me and jumped into my arms. We moved to FL and we brought here with us. Gigi is queen of the house and has my husband in her pocket. We love her dearly.

Three cats.

One grey fluff of a cat who is 16.

One Tuxedo cat we rescued when she appeared on my deck as a small kitten. Only for a quick snack and would disappear. We had to trap her. Now she is full of sass. Her marking look like she is wearing a white bikini and boots.

One semi-feral marmalade. She showed up in my garage looking for dog kibble scraps. After a few cat fights; I started leaving out food. This of course led to two heated houses. One on the deck and one by the bedroom window. She likes to pop up and look through the window. Someday we will get her into the house. She is not sure of the dogs or the grey fluff. They have fought before. Probably after the fluff passes.

Had one cat, called Bushman.

Unfortunately around 6-7 years ago, he went missing, and I've never found him again.

Last year I lost my 17 y.o. half Maine Coon, Samson, to chronic kidney disease. As of last December, I adopted a European Shorthair called Evie, part tabby and part white. She's 4 y.o. and she's my first young cat and she can't get enough of chasing foil balls and killing shoelaces. Samson was old when I got him so despite his best efforts, he didn't catch many flies, but Evie is a murder ninja so I'm super looking forward to this summer when the flies inevitably come back, because I know she will John Wick the fuck out of them all.

Cat are love, cats are life! (like catgirls) Also cats >>>>>>>>> dogs! (with quite a few animals in between) Not just smarter but better all around.

3 cats at the moment but usually 4-5 or so.

While, with some tragic irony, dogs love eating cats, and everything related to them.
So in a mixed household, you to deal with, on some level, with an animal so shamelessly opportunistic, and uncouth, that it will likely drink from your "bowl", and eat from the cat box.
God forbid they figure out how to open the fridge/pantry and cross contaminate/compromise everyone.
Like horses, if a dog's incredible trainability did not make their otherwise inherent stupidity endearing, I am not sure we would have bothered with them at all.

If your house has cockroaches, would you get a cat to exterminate them? The last time that sort of thing happened was in France, and it didn't go well.

Wood roaches are okay, though.
Watching the animal nightlife of any housing development suffering an infestation of these things from fetid tree stands, or whole forests, can be a little amusing as you watch cats, dogs, frogs, almost any and every small carnivore/omnivore feast better than any animal has a right to, and not even dent the population of the equally voracious insects.

A cat can catch a bunch of cockroaches, it's just unlikely the cat will hunt them so relentlessly as to offset their breeding. And even if you have the most agile murder kitty, one of two roaches are just going to hang out under a gap too tight for the kitty's paw.

Valerian is like speed for most cats. It's basically a much more powerful version of catnip.

I drink Valerian tea and my cats love to stick their faces in the empty cups.

Cats have a highly advantageous biochemistry that through the cycling of a certain parasite through their system allows them to effect human and rodent behavior through a variety of chemical inducements.
One third of the human population, unknowingly for the most part, has historically carried a disease resulting from exposure to the parasite that makes carriers significantly biased positively towards the animals.
Even without that, the same cat pheromones used amongst themselves that make them more attractive to, and cooperative with each other, works on us as well to the degree that we get significant endorphin releases from petting cats.
The clever little bastards neurochemically hacked us, and mice, to make each more manageable.
Might explain some of the more obsessive dog behaviors regarding cats, and their related items, that does not always work in feline favor.
