Dein Vaterland

OOC

My nation, Joseon, has a different timeline than IRL Korea. Joseon was not taken over by Japan and became one of the victors of World War II. On the other hand, the WW2 world that appeared over the ring is like the IRL timeline. So it will take some time for Joseon to get things right. You just have to proceed with the story regardless of my progress.

You can create portals anywhere you want, but they should not be set to connect too closely to the Axis Powers' mainland.(I recommend to maintain a distance of at least 200 km.)

East China Sea

When he first saw it, Lieutenant Colonel Lim Han-yeong could not feel any emotion. It was because the scene he was witnessing now was so strange to feel anything like fear or confusion.

Weirdness. No word could describe the current situation better than that. An average person would find it hard to imagine a huge ring of light floating in the middle of the ocean. Lim Han-yeong, however, was seeing the bizarre scene himself.

Lim Han-yeong ordered the submarine to surface, and the crew went out and looked directly at the scene. Although the possibility is extremely low, there may be something wrong with the periscope. But the sailors and Lim Hanyeong, who witnessed with their own eyes that the weird ring was still floating in the middle of the sea, realized that this was a real situation.

Lim Hanyeong felt he had to report this to the top, took a picture of the ring and attached it to the report, and quickly sent a telegram to the Naval Operations Command in Jinhae.

In the attached coordinates, We found a huge ring, 500m high and 500m wide, surrounded by light. The ring was first observed at 09:40 am and still exists in that coordinate as of 12:30 pm. It doesn't look like an optical phenomenon such as light refraction. I waiting for your command.

Submarine Force Commander Kim Jae-Pil came into the office five minutes before lunchtime was over. The vongole pasta that was on his lunch menu that day was one of his favorites, so he was able to finish the meal fairly satisfactorily. The mealtime was around two hours, so there was plenty of time for him to chat with his close friend, the Coast Guard Commander.

However, Kim Jae-Pil was forced to frown upon his deputy's comment that an emergency telegram had arrived as soon as he entered the office. This is because emergency telegrams were usually mostly content that inevitably caused an increase in his workload, such as order to monitor maritime exercises of neighboring countries.

Kim Jae-Pil read the telegram with a frown. But the contents of the telegram were completely different from what he had expected. A huge ring surrounded by light. Kim Jae-Pil had no idea what this meant. Moreover, the fact that the ring had a circumference of 500 m surprised Kim Jae-Pil.

Kim Jae-Pil thought it was a UFO at first, but it was difficult to regard a ring that remained in one place for as long as three hours as a regular UFO. Kim Jae-Pil quickly wrote a reply and sent it to Lim Hanyeong's submarine. Immediately thereafter, Jae-Pil Kim sent the report to the Ministry of Defense in Seoul.

Keep an eye on the object while keeping your current position. Report back immediately if anything unusual happens.

East China Sea

Lim Han-yeong and his submarine continued to watch the ring. But one day later, the ring stayed in its place, and its size did not shrink or grow. It was after 11 a.m. when something unusual happened. Two ships suddenly appeared over the ring. Both ships were about 120 meters long and were dull, solid colors like warships rather than merchant ships.

The oddity was that neither of the warships were ships registered in the database on the submarine's computer. The ships were not warships from any of the countries in the United States, China, Japan, or Russia. But the ships were all equipped with objects that appeared to be turrets, and painted solid colors like every warship.

Lim Han-yeong's submarine seemed undetected by them, as it had been submerged below the surface. Suddenly, one of the ships approached the ring and crossed the ring soon after. As the ship crossed the ring, Lim Han-yeong continued to look at the ship, and was convinced that there was something that distinguished between over the ring and inside the ring. Because the two ships that suddenly appeared were ships that were not nearby until they were seen through the ring.

Lim Han-yeong immediately sent a telegram to the Naval Operations Command.

Two unidentified ships have appeared over the ring, and one of them has crossed the ring and is sailing toward Jeju Island. I've searched the database, but the ship is unidentified.

The sea 200km away from Jeju Island

The 9th Carrier Strike Group, which was sailing in waters south of Jeju Island, was Joseon's fleet closest to the ship that crossed the ring. Colonel Sung Yi Seul, commander of the 9th Carrier Strike Group, sent two destroyers to try to contact the ship.

Since the vessel has yet to be identified and the vessel has already entered Joseon's air defense identification zone, Colonel Sung Yi Seul ordered the aircraft carrier's 4 fighter jets to take off to support friendly destroyers following the hostile ship response guidelines. As a result, 4 KF-24 fighter jets took off equipped with hypersonic anti-ship missiles and air-to-air missiles.

It took less than an hour for the destroyers to come into contact with the unidentified ship. Soon the ship was within sight of the destroyers.

The captain of one of the destroyers once studied the Pacific War deeply. He was well-versed in the tactics and weapons used in the Pacific War and was still writing a paper on the Pacific War.

Therefore, he noticed at once what kind of ship the unidentified one was. It was a Fubuki-Class Destroyer.

The destroyer's captain could see that this was a crazy situation because the Fubuki-Class Destroyer was a destroyer used by Japan during the Pacific War.

Captain Caja Fearthainne of the Tribe of Wicklow.
Civilian Research Vessel Airmed.
Own Reference Date: 23rd of January 2024.

We knew portals.
Mythological connections from our world to the Arallfyd, the Other World, which heroes used to retrieve loved ones.
The Gate, which had led to Sadera.
Neither of them was 493.4 by 502.7 metres, nor in the middle of the ocean. It has been discovered by a fishing vessel, who's crew had posted about it online. Of course, the press jumped on the opportunity, half a dozen ships carrying journalists were here...
...the SDF had been quicker.
SDFS Rhiannon herself secured the area, a drone carrier group was nearby, other warships on the way. Whatever passed through this gate, the Free Lands wanted to know about it in advance.
And that was why I was here, with my ship.
The Airmed was an unarmed Aiteal-class Oceanographic Research Vessel, commissioned by a private research institute in 2022 for hire. We had been hired by the Oceanographic Institute of the Free Lands, mainly because we had something the two vessels the OIFL did not have: Two Cumscóir C-10 Helicopter Drones, relatively small remote controlled helicopters we used for research purposes.
With 16 scientists aboard, my 17 strong crew had a lot of guests. Doctor Felicia Oibrí of the Tribe of Cork led them, the brunette researcher making a good impression on me and my crew.
We had no idea what awaited us.
Another Empire out for expansion? Another world? Mantodon, the ocean of the Arallfyd?
We had no idea.
Drones, which the SDF had sent through, had only transmitted ocean, but the officer of Naval Intelligence had been quite clear, that they had not flown their drones out too much.
One thing was certain, though: A portal, potentially to danger, three hundred kilometers south of Wembury, could not be left uninvestigated.
We entered.
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

Filorose Naval Base
January 23, 2024

"...I'm telling you this storm is something we want to avoid."
"Well we're needed in the Red Sea by the end of the week, things are heating up and I'll be damned if the Americans get all the glory yet again. We move out in an hour with the route we already have planned."

Naval Strike Group Alpha set off from Filorose Naval Base, hoping to meet up with Naval Strike Group Charlie who was already in the Red Sea. There was a storm system to the west of Boldonia, and cargo ships bound for Southeast Asia were planning to wait out until the storm calmed down. However the military didn't have the time to wait, they were needed in the Red Sea ASAP, and as one of the most respected Naval Strike Groups, being led by the pride of the Boldonian fleet IRBS Hawaii, a late arrival had the potential to tarnish this group's nearly perfect reputation. Aside from the loss of IRBS Carbon in the beginning of the Second Boldonian-Brasilistani War, Naval Strike Group Alpha had seen victory after victory in the engagements they were present in. This was going to be just another routine mission, escort cargo ships through the Red Sea while Naval Strike Group Charlie kept up the pressure.

A few hours after leaving port the winds had picked up and the sky turned a sickly grey, waves were crashing up against the hulls of the fleet, and IRBS Chicago was constantly bobbing up and down in the rough seas. With its speed it was decided that IRBS Chicago would temporarily break of the fleet and cut around through the calmer weather of Micronesia before meeting up with the rest of the fleet near Palau, however the rest of the fleet continued straight ahead. Flashes of lightning were seen in the distance as the fleet pressed forward. Not an hour later it was too stormy to see the ship right next to you, even the destroyers were having some trouble keeping up in the stormy weather. Then a flash of lightning went of right in front of the fleet accompanied by a larger blue flash all of its systems went down at once. In Filorose the command center lost contact with Naval Strike Group Alpha, they attempted to contact IRBS Chicago who was still on the map about the whereabouts of the fleet. A garbled message came through before it too disappeared off the map.

150 Miles East of Guam
December 20, 1941

Suddenly there was calm, Naval Strike Group Alpha's systems were down but at least they were out of the storm. Luckily most of the fleet's systems kicked back online, with the notable exception of communication and naval tracking systems. Admiral Oscar Jones and Captain Brooke Miller met up and tried to figure out their next move. It was clear they needed to repair soon, and by their estimate they were closer to Guam now than they were to Boldonia. They decided to try and contract Apra Harbor in order to alert them of their emergency deviation, but without their communication encryption up they just had to radio in the blind. These were friendly waters anyway, mostly filled with civilian cargo ships inbound to Boldonian ports. Besides the Americans, Boldonians, or container ships who else could possibly be listening...

"This is Admiral Oscar Jones of the Independent Republic of Boldonia Naval Forces aboard IRBS Hawaii calling for Apra Harbor in the blind, I repeat calling for Apra Harbor. The storm has scrambled some of our systems, including those related to secure communications, and we're doing our best to bring them back but we will need to dock for more extensive repairs. Requesting permission to dock in Apra Harbor so we can repair essential systems and head back to Filorose. Any civilian ships on this channel please ignore."

Meanwhile on the aft some sailors noticed a mysterious blue flash behind them. It was only there for a split second, but almost everyone noticed it. The skies were oddly clear, nothing like the storm they had just been in. The crews scrambled to try and repair their system to the best of their ability, but they knew they would need to dock somewhere soon to completely repair them.

Lake Michigan, 40 Miles West of Kenosha, Wisconsin
December 20, 1941

Aboard IRBS Chicago there was a similar bright blue flash before mysteriously appearing in calmer waters. With the Cyclone-Class Patrol Boat's small size few onboard could ignore it, and some rushed out on deck to see where the storm went. On the bridge Captain Michael Carter attempted to locate and contact the rest of the fleet, however its communication encryption was also down.

"This is Captain Michael Carter of the Independent Republic of Boldonia Naval Forces ship IRBS Chicago. Our guidance systems are down as well as our communications. We are requesting help in guiding us towards Apra Harbor, if there is any military on this channel capable of assisting please respond, we don't know where we are and we're trying to get back on track."

The crew noticed a large time difference between where they were and where they are now. They had left Filorose in the morning but now it seemed as though it were evening, manual compasses also showed a tremendous difference between where they were before and where they were now. The waters also seemed to be extremely calm and not as deep as the Pacific, as well as seeming to be a different shade of blue. They had no idea where they were or how they got there, and they hoped someone could help them out.

When the portal appeared, the Stratusian Internal Security Department took the first jump at it with glee. They constructed a massive floating rig disguised as a GOPLAT around the portal before anyone could notice it.

Blacksite - Ultima Thule

The spatial anomaly had been open for days, but for all the local fishermen knew, it was a new sea current research facility. Little did they know, it was a black site used by the Stratusian navy. They had radio-carbon-dated the other end of the portal using a piece of driftwood retrieved to approximately 8 decades behind OTL. From historical documents, this was approximately the year 1941, and they were about 2,000 nautical miles away from the nearest landmass in this timeline, Austrailia. Their landmass, the Glasburg archipelago, most likely failed to form due to the tectonic movements and failure of the plate itself to resurface. The mission was on. The SNF Redoubt had moored next to the facility, now nicknamed Ultima Thule, the mythical island that never existed.

It was a stormy afternoon when they decided to go through. A mix of humans and sergals clamored over the deck to watch as the ship they stood aboard passed through, towed by massive cables attached to massive motors.

The captain of the ship, Rudolf Andropov, watched as the front of the ship passed through the portal. He gave a thumbs up, the men operating the massive cables tugging the stern returned the gesture. Two other ships waited in line, ready to load, both were troopships modified from E-class cargo ships. Men alongside the floating canal segment cheered on as the Redoubt made it's way through the portal.

"Because your mother loves roses."

Republic of Greilands

23 Einmoss 0224

5:00:00 Euhr

All was quiet in the South Pacific, somewhere between the Pacific and Nazca plates, a torrential rainstorm slammed into the ocean, clouds hovering lividly over the sea. But hidden within, a ball of energy materialised, its luminous arcs dulled by the copious greyness and moisture. Hours passed until the storm finally relented; however, something wasn't right despite the subsequent nightfall.

A tiny hilly tropical island slowly appeared into view when dawn approached. A small coastal town comprised much of its coast, but there were no naval bases, no airports, and no artillery pieces. The docks, including the small adjacent marina, were lined with forests of masts and hulls, most of them made of steel, all of them somehow not running aground or untied during the unexpected teleportation.

Throughout the night, Greilish workers and sailors frantically scrambled around, analysing the damage of their ships; however, graver concerns brewed beneath the Earth, specifically underneath the University of New Hollister, scientists and researchers grumbling over the failure of their particle accelerator experiment. It was supposed to be an ordinary test involving basic quark manipulation, but nobody expected a bombastic response from the accelerator, instead causing an unintentional teleportation effect within a ten-mile radius, the island included.

By 4:95:00 Euhr, after what felt like five metric hours in hell, telecommunications were finally restored, the government already preparing its announcement, their only last obstacle is the usual countdown clock, which was gradually ticking to 5:00:00 Euhr. Over the radiowaves, aside from the Greilish analog televisions, the Greilischen Theedischen News (GRETHEEN) buzzed to life, its introduction chime singing to life for all to hear throughout the countdown. Once 5 Euhr came, a young brown-haired newsman appeared on screen:

"Hello an Goedmidday, my Dame an my Herr. My name es Sammy Walkersen."

"An ik Paulen Swansdattir." A light raven-haired newswoman announced on the left. "Heden we bringen yoll een upmost anwarden, starten mit borougreef Lewis Hartmannsen, hwo ousbepraaten our ungebonlich tinderstand. We bebringen yoll wetteren efter des mield."

Moments later, the cameras switched to a middle-aged, slightly weathered man in a blue suit and tie, his body shielded by a lectern at the bottom of the screen. "Goedmidday. Een euhr ago, we haben genieuwen an gefanden entpraaten mit theedlanden, ob all fand haben misgefallen. Ik ousdrukk my upmost entschultining ouspraaten des entfoldning: We er not mehr in our werld."

Though some have already came to conclusion the governor was already making, most were not prepared for this outlandish development, which would be explained and discussed for the next 30 metric minutes.

Glowing thingy on the beach (23rd January 2024 on Sky Reaver turf)

As usual, Emerald Crescent Resort was buzzing with life, especially it's beach, where many locals and tourists enjoyed everything it had to offer. Beach bars are packed with drunk and cheerful people, while the beach itself smelled with barbecue and cannabis, as some people smoked from hookahs full of aromatic ganja, or cooked meat on grills. Loud party music added to the nice atmosphere. Business as usual.

Liam Graham was partying hard with a bunch of friends and some colleagues, having a day off after a long, hard and nasty work of clearing an abandoned casino from hornet nests, roaches and rats, so it could be reopened after restoration. They were enjoying themselves, when suddenly a ring of very bright light has appeared right on the beach, baffling the beachgoers.

-"Yo', dudes! The heck is that thingy? It's glowin'!"- A guy with blonde dreadlocks asks, while holding and smoking from bong.

-"I dunno, man... I only know, that this is not me seeing weird thingies from that strain of weed."-Liam Graham decides to pinch himself, but nothing changes. A glowing sphere is still here. He comes closer and carefully puts his hand near it. It's not hot. So, no bonfire substitute for frying a kebab. But, Liam decided to take a photo on his smartphone. After he is finished, a long haired metalhead guy arrives from an important mission to bring more beers. -"Got some more for ya'll! Ice cold, right outta fridge! What's that light, dudes? Are we gonna do somethin' new?" -Raul wondered, when suddenly this light sphere did a thing, that almost made him drop a crate of beers. It started expanding... Now, it's no longer a sphere, but a rapidly expanding ring, that expanded until in became two meters wide.

-"Holy shit! Is that..."-A guy with bong made a few steps back. -"A freakin' portal?!"

-"Yeah, Joel looks just like one! See? There is a beach on the other side, but... it's a bit different... Like, there ain't no folks enjoyin' the beach, I mean, not a single sun umbrellas. And... a fresh, cool air comes outta it."- Akira, a tattooed woman with green hair, wearing black top and necklace from six 5.56 rounds says. -"We should check it out! Cuz' YOLO!"

Liam Graham stops her. -"Wait... what if it's one sided? I remember that story of a guy, who entered a portal in New Sodom and it turned out to be one sided, like, ya' can enter it, but can't leave. He went through alot, till he managed to return. And he ended up in North Korea! Thankfully after we have maanged to take it over. Had to go all the way back. I say, we gotta test that portal first! Let's... tie something to a beach towel, throw it in and yank back!"

Liam's test showed - this portal is two-way. -"Alright dudes! Who wants some lil' adventurin? All? Well, then let's just mount da' expedition! Maybe we can find some treasure there and pawn it for booze! Just, lets' prepare first. Ya' know, pack some food, booze, weed and... guns n' bullets just in case. Cuz ya' never know. Maybe, we gonna find a dragon and his treasures? Just imagine, we shoot that flyin' lizard and pawn all that gold! Ya' could party till ya' die and never work again! Oh and hang that dragon head on the wall and boast! Or... Some alien tech? Friends gonna be jealous, when they see that superduper alien rifle!"

After some time, after Liam Graham counted to three, a group of nine partygoers with guns, melee weapons, and stock of food, ammo, alcohol and cannabis goers just ran into the portal, that became slightly bigger. It still expanded, even if slower. -"Enterin' da' protal dudes! YOLO! Fuck yeah!"

On the shores of Catalonia.

And... that's how a jolly bunch of Sky Reavers has ended up on Catalonian beach in 1941 after running through the portal. What they felt immediately, is that the air was much cooler than it was back home, which was rather delightful for them, as this is a relief from that minor heatwave. Also, they have noticed, that... there are almost no signs of this beach being a resort. No amenities, no lifeguards, just sand, sea, rocks and trees. -"Well... That's... not exactly a five stars resort. Like, quiet, and not a single beach amenity. At least portal is still there if ya' wanna refill. But, we got more than enough, so let's just wander a bit. Maybe, we could find someone and ask, where the hell did we just enter?"-Liam Graham adjusted his M-16 assault rifle on belt and led his friends alongside the shore and then on some ground road, where they met a group of locals.

The fishermen from nearby village would see a bunch of Sky Reavers. A group of nine drunkards and stoners, dressed unusually. One of them, Raul, was wearing blue beach shorts, ManOwar band t-shirt, and studded bracers and carried a sawed-off pump shotgun. Other looked like a hippie with his colorful bong and blonde dreadlocks, he carried an old TEC-9 SMG. Liam Graham, a tough looking black guy with dark dreadlocks, had his M-16 on his belt. One of three women, Akira, wore her green leggings with tank top and had bright neon green hair.... All of this bunch looked like that. With such clothing. Some wore necklaces from differnt ammo. Most had tattoos. These strange humans of different races, white, black and asian, underdressed but unfazed with colder weather, tried to talk to locals. Thankfully, locals spoke Spanish, which was a widespread language on Sky Reaver territory.

Liam spoke in Spanish to locals: "Hey there, guys! Ummm... we just wandered a bit astray and wanna ask, where are we? What is this place and where is the closest village? Oh, I'll give ya' some beer if ya' help, cuz we got lots of booze and cannabis!"-He asks, as Raul checks his smartphone and notices, that there is no signal and no connection. He asks one of the fishermen if there is any WiFi here.

And then Akira speaks: "Yo' there, what's up? How are ya'll doing? Wanna party with us? Come and join! For I we will give unto ya' that is athirst of the fountain of the booze of life, freely. For we got some booze!"

Hippie guy with blonde dreadlocks starts offering his cannabis to the fishermen.

It had started out lightly.
Just after dawn, a civilian bulk cargo vessel had reported the occurence of a large ring of light, 500m high and 500m wide, 300kms of the coast of the Imperium, at Columbia District's latitude.
Immediatly, the Astarian Coast Guard had dispatched drones and planes to observe the phenomenon, alongside two long range cutters, which had arrived at 9AM. Over the hours, the ships and planes circled around the circle, observing it and waiting for something, which so far never came.

Back at the capital, authorities were scrambling to try and understand what was this ring of light, and what should be done about it. But just as Their Imperial Majesties, Keisaer Adrean Blachkor and Keisaerina Anna Blachkor, were debating with the National Security Council what to do, urgent reports of another ring of light, this time located halfway between the West Coast and Hawaii, arrived, bringing even more questions and doubts.

Without hesitation, the alert state was raised to DEFCON 3, and it was ordered that two Carrier Strike Groups, the ones of IAS Ebon Atoll on the West Coast, and IAS Columbia on the East Coast, would depart to approach the rings, and be ready to deter any potential threats that could come out of them.

Meanwhile, the Coast Guard, both in the East and West, had sent a few drones inside the rings. Even though they had not penetrated deep on the other side, reports and video footage showed oceans until the eye could see, and no ship in sight. Measurements showed too that the air was breathable.

At the end of the day, as the sun was slowly about to set, and after talks had been raging in the capital, in the Department of Defense, at the Silver Palace, and various other places of importance, the order came:
The IAS Ebon Atoll and Columbia, alongside their Carrier Strike Groups, were to enter the rings and explore in force what was on the other side.
Additional ships would be mobilized to go with them, to act as radio relays, in order that permanent communication would not be lost.

At first, all the crews of the ships to be involved had received the information dumbfounded. Go through the rings, and risk two Carrier Strike Groups and their crews?
But soon, this small bout of fear and doubt was dissipated by one of excitment. Sure, it was risky, but who knew what they could find on the other side?
Even though this order had already been quite debated for the entire day at the capital, in the end, only one solution remained: this ring, whatever it was, had to be understood. And for it to be understood, it would have to be penetrated. And sure, risking two carriers is not advised, instead of just one cutter, but if what there is on the other side ends up being very threatening, better have the means to tame it on the spot, even if we have to retreat.

And so, in the orange and red tones of the twilight sun, the two carriers and their Strike Groups entered the rings...

December 20th, 1941
Somewhere in Southern Luzon, Philippines…

Gentle waves came crashing and broke onto the beaches. The sound actually came across as soothing in the darkness of night... had it not been for the multiple explosions coming off from the distant horizon, and the knowledge that the Japanese invasion force had already landed on the north and the south of the country… and currently on their march here.

“Private Jake. Sound off when I call you. Let’s go! Break time over..” the platoon sergeant yelled out.

He immediately regained his senses.

“Yes, sergeant.” and scurried off to rejoin the rest of the squad, already on their feet.

His unit was part of the US Army 2nd Philippine Division, under the command of Major General George Marshall Parker. They were attempting to regroup after the Japanese had landed another force at Legaspi just a week earlier, while the main body of the army were busy fending off the Japanese advances coming in from the North.

So far they had little success in stopping the enemy - lacking air support and the Asiatic fleet almost blown out by the Imperial Japanese Navy and its naval aviations…but they bide their time, and hoping to make a stand at the vicinity of Manilla while reinforcement can be assembled back home…. If there is any coming to their aid here in the Philippines at all.

The battalion S2 told the company commanders that the Japs will be making their main assault sometime between the next few days.

They were busy building hasty defensive positions all over Southern Luzon, hoping to stop the Japs… but even Parker knew just how the odds stacked against them - without much artillery or air support they knew the division can only offer a token resistance.

“Come one dude, we still got to hump all night and dig trenches at the new position.” Private Lewis, his buddy, urged him to press on.

“Right, sorry.”

"Hey, did you hear the rumour about the strange light in the East Sea? They said the japs found something and it disturbed them until they put out a naval task force surrounding it?"

"A what?"

"Yeah, man. Guys in S2 shop heard of radio intercept saying the Japs ran into something at seas, they says it's some kind of giant light forming. Like a ring. Or a gate. The other guys in K Company say they can see it from their positions, somewhere over the ocean in the East."

"Nah, man. I'm too tired with all this shit to be paying attention to rumors."

"Yeah? Oh well, Here, beef jerkey. You gotta eat something. I stole it from the supply stash. Don't let anyone know." he handed over something into Jake's hand.

Mysterious blue light forming out at the seas? And it spook the Japs enough for them to send a task force to check it out? What could it be?

The sea 200km away from Jeju Island
January 23rd, 2024

"This is KHMS Kim Gun of the Royal Joseon Navy. Currently, you have invaded Joseon's EEZ. Identify yourself and immediately leave here according to our guidance."

Destroyer KHMS Kim Gun shouted in English, Chinese, and Japanese to the Fubuki-Class Destroyer over a loudspeaker. It didn't take long for a destroyer to hear back from the Fubuki-Class Destroyer. The reply broadcast was in Japanese.

"This is IJN Shirayuki of the Imperial Japanese Navy. We are currently in Japanese territorial waters. Identify your exact affiliation. You have currently invaded Japanese territorial waters."

"What the hell is that?"

The officers in the destroyer's bridge were perplexed. The idea that crazy people had arrived took over the officers' minds, but the captain had a different idea.

The captain held up his binoculars and took a closer look at the Fubuki-Class Destroyer. The ship did not look old, and now the ship's mast had a rising sun flag. It seemed the ship's crew had hoisted the flag to announce their affiliation.

"This is KHMS Kim Gun from the Royal Joseon Navy. Currently, you have invaded Joseon's EEZ. If you approach any more, we will fire warning shots. Evict from your current position now."

Then, a turret near the bow of the Fubuki-Class Destroyer set off fire. The shells passed over the top of KHMS Kim Gun and landed 50 m back.

We warn you. You are in Japan's territorial waters now. This is the last warning shot. If you get any closer, we will fire.

"They fired the deck guns!"

The captain felt that delaying more time would be dangerous. Dealing with World War II-era destroyers at close range could be dangerous. Whatever the opponent's identity, the opponent attacked the friendly first, and now he had to follow the guidelines for responding to hostile ships.

"Prepare anti-ship missiles. We have to sink enemy ships."

But as soon as his command was given, something flew over the destroyer's head. This time it flew from the back of the destroyer.

At the same time, a huge explosion occurred in the Fubuki-Class Destroyer.

4 KF-24 fighter jets, waiting behind two of Joseon's destroyers, fired anti-ship missiles following response guidelines as soon as the hostile fire was confirmed. One fighter fired a total of two hypersonic anti-ship missiles at the Fubuki-Class Destroyer, which accelerated quickly and hit the Fubuki-Class Destroyer.

Because the missiles were so fast, one missile fell through the Fubuki-Class Destroyer and into the sea, but the other caused an explosion inside the destroyer.

One hypersonic missile's warhead weight is only 100 kg, but the missile hit the ship at Mach 8 had a tremendous kinetic energy, so the Fubuki-Class Destroyer was fatally attacked and split in two. The Fubuki-Class Destroyer broke into two pieces and began to sink into the sea, and the few surviving sailors started swimming.

"Rescue them all, but regard them all as criminals and immediately arrest them and lock them up. We need to ask Jinhae for a Japanese interpreter to interrogate them."

The captain gave the command, but he couldn't get out of his confused thoughts about the present moment. If they were indeed Japanese during World War II, how should Joseon treat them?

What the arrested Japanese sailors said was absurd. They identified themselves as belonging to the Imperial Japanese Navy and claimed that they were active in Japanese waters. They also claimed this year is 1941.

After being taken to the naval military police headquarters in Jinhae, Joseon, they were surprised at Jinhae's scenery and seemed relieved to learn that they were on the Korean Peninsula. However, before long, they appeared puzzled or surprised, as they all found out that Joseon was an independent country and that there was not a single Japanese soldier on the Korean Peninsula.

Prisoners commonly claimed that the Korean Peninsula is Japanese territory, and military police investigators were puzzled to hear this claim. Investigators had to explain to the prisoners that this year was 2024, the Korean Peninsula was not Japanese territory, and that Japan's national power was less than half that of Joseon.

In the meantime, a series of incidents have all been reported to the Joseon government in Seoul. The Joseon government was interested in the two-day incident, but the so-called "Japanese Destroyer" incident did not become a priority as the Joseon government's attention was focused on the large issue of the possibility of a large-scale escalation in the Middle East.

But soon after, an incident occurred that forced the Joseon government to focus on the incident.

December 21st, 1941
Seoul, the Korean peninsula(Under Japanese occupation)

Han Do-yeop thought it was all over now.

Japanese soldiers in front of Han Do-yeop were aiming guns at him. The soldiers were pointing guns at not only Han Do-yeop but also his lover, Song Soo-young.

"Following wartime statutes law, I will execute you due to attempting to kill the Governor."

As the Japanese officer's cold voice rang out, the soldiers were ready to pull the trigger at gunpoint. Han Do-yeop wanted to tell the soldiers not to kill his lover, Song Soo-young, but he knew it wouldn't work.

He held his lover's hand for the last time. Song Soo-young's hands were shaking and very cold.

Then, a loud sound began to be heard along with a shout from the back. The soldiers and officers, surprised by the sound, looked behind them. They were on one side of the great boulevard, and a huge ring surrounded by light appeared on the other side of the boulevard. Suddenly, a huge ring appeared in the middle of the boulevard, and people were embarrassed and tried to understand what the situation was.

Soldiers, officers, Han Do-yeop, and Song Soo-young tried to understand the situation as well. It is not the normal situation, for a ring that is several times taller than the building to appear in the middle of the main street.

What was even more embarrassing was the view from beyond the ring. Beyond the ring was a strange landscape, with black-covered roads, tall skyscrapers, and countless cars with strange shapes, and people dressed in strange costumes.

Seoul, The Great Kingdom of Joseon

"Citizens are confused by a phenomenon involving an unidentified ring that appeared on Gangnam-daero. Currently, police authorities are investigating the exact cause…..........."

Seoul citizens and the media were in chaos. Police immediately dispatched and controlled the scene, but the citizens flocked to the scene where the ring appeared and tried to understand what was going on. The same was true of the reporters who rushed to the scene, who rushed to film and continue covering the footage. The scene was not chaotic, but it had a chaotic energy as if something big was about to happen.

Prime Minister Park Yohan convened the NSC to understand the situation and come up with countermeasures. In the process, the incident of a 'Japanese destroyer' in the southern sea of Jeju Island finally became a topic.

Image
Minister of the Interior and Safety
Won Na-Kyung
"According to our information, the people and the city beyond the ring are similar to our country in the early 20th century. People's clothing and vehicles are identical to those in the mid-20th century, but the city's landscape is similar to our country's in the early 20th century."

"As far as police officers on the scene discovered, those people over the ring speak Korean and understand our language, but the troops currently putting up barricades over the ring are similar to the costumes of Japanese soldiers in the mid-20th century. Also, the language they speak is Japanese."

When the Minister of the Interior and Safety's report was over, Prime Minister Park Yohan continued.

Image
Prime Minister
Park Yohan
"Umm. It's hard to imagine a world where ordinary citizens speak Korean but some citizens and the majority of soldiers speak Japanese. Anyway, people on the other side of the ring have deployed their troops to the field?"

Image
Minister of the Interior and Safety
Won Na-Kyung
“Yes, they are.”

Image
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Choi Jong-Gu
“Mr. Prime Minister, this incident is very similar to the incident reported yesterday in the waters south of Jeju Island and the giant ring appearance incident in the East China Sea. Both incidents are incidents where a huge ring of light appeared in a particular place, and both events are related to objects from the mid-20th century.”

Image
Prime Minister
Park Yohan
“There is no complete certainty that the destroyer is a mid-20th century ship.”

Image
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Choi Jong-Gu
"Yes, sir. However, we should not ignore the possibility that yesterday's events and today's events may be related. Mr. Prime Minister. If that destroyer is indeed a Japanese destroyer from World War II, then we should regard that ring that has now appeared in Seoul as a threat. Think about what our relationship was like between Joseon and Japan during World War II.”

The Minister of Foreign Affairs was right. During World War II, Joseon and Japan were engaged in a fierce war with each other, and if the world beyond the ring was the world of World War II, then the world beyond the ring was a very dangerous bomb.

Image
Prime Minister
Park Yohan
“Contact the Capital Defense Command and ask them to mobilize troops and tightly control the area around the ring. Ban civilians from entering the area and tell them to stop anyone from crossing the ring. I think we need to discuss this case further.”

But one question remained. Why are there Japanese troops on the Korean Peninsula?

Upon hearing the prime minister's order, General Jeong Tae-shin, Capital Defense Commander, ordered troops under his command to dispatch and called up divisions around Seoul.

Image
General Jeong Tae-Shin
"The 19th Tank Battalion and Military Police Group should immediately move troops to Gangnam-daero to block the 200m area around the ring and keep civilians out of the vicinity while preventing anyone from the other side of the ring. The Capital Mechanized Infantry Division and The 56th Infantry Division should also send three tank battalions and six infantry battalions to Seoul right now."

On the orders of General Jeong Tae-shin, one tank battalion, and one military police battalion were dispatched to the scene where the ring appeared, surrounded the scene with barricades, and aimed guns at the other side of the ring. At the same time, The Capital Mechanized Infantry Division, a unit near Seoul, sent three tank battalions to Seoul, while The 56th Infantry Division sent 6 infantry battalions to Seoul.

Suddenly, the atmosphere got weird.

The U.S. government was the first to be briefed on the huge rings that appeared in the middle of the sea or in the middle of the land. Local police reports of a giant ring surrounded by light appearing near Lake Michigan arrived in Washington, D.C., much sooner than expected, and U.S. government officials thought the phenomenon was related to Germany's or Japan's secret weapons program.

The ring did not cause any harm to the U.S. right away, but the U.S. could not stand still. Soon, a battalion of the Wisconsin National Guard and two companies of the Federal Army were dispatched to Lake Michigan. Two nearby PBY Catalina Flying boats also hurriedly flew toward Lake Michigan's ring.

They should be able to get an answer as early as an hour. Whether they expected it or not.

The next country to hear about the rings was Germany. Less than an hour after a U-boat sailing on France's Brest latitude reported about a huge ring with a diameter of about 500m in the middle of the sea, the U-boat sailing between Iceland and Ireland made a similar report.

When two bizarre reports arrived in Berlin, German commanders thought it was a secret Allied weapon test. Admiral Karl Dönitz ordered the continuation attack on the Allied merchant ships and secretly set sail two U-boats from the port of La Rochelle to begin an investigation into the rings.

However, less than an hour after the two U-boats left the port, German spies received information that the Spanish government had launched an investigation into the ring, which appeared in Catalonia, Spain, and submitted a report to Berlin. Recognizing that the incident was a serious matter, the German government sent a telegram to the Spanish government to further investigate the ring, but when the response was delayed, Germany immediately dispatched four BF109 fighters over Catalonia without the approval of the Spanish government.

Japan was the last to receive information. Reports of a ring appearing in the East China Sea have reached Tokyo. Two destroyers discovered a large ring, and one of the destroyers entered the ring, but when it was reported that contact with the destroyer had been lost, Japanese commanders suspected secret Allied weapons testing. Japan immediately dispatched a small fleet led by the battleship Kongo to the East China Sea.

Meanwhile, two Japanese submarines on a reconnaissance mission reported to Tokyo the discovery of a strange ring and an unknown island in the ocean 3,700 km away from Australia and in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, respectively. Although it was still a dangerous place for the Japanese surface fleet to operate, the Japanese dispatched two submarines into the waters where an unknown Island appeared.

Waiting to hear from submarines and small fleets, Japanese commanders got the shocking news shortly after. This time, it was news that a huge ring appeared in the middle of Seoul on the Korean Peninsula, which is under Japanese occupation. The Korean governor-general's report that the ring was about 500m in size and the scenery on the other side of the ring was so strange quickly reached Imperial General Headquarters, and Japanese commanders now began to act, regarding the ring as a threat.

Japanese commanders gathered two Japanese divisions stationed on the Korean Peninsula to Seoul, while sending a fleet toward Ring, about 3,700 km from Australia. Since the majority of the fleet was mobilized for war against the United States, the reconnaissance fleet's flagship was Haguro, the Myōkō-class cruiser.

Ten destroyers and one submarine, led by the cruiser Haguro, approached the ring 2,000 nautical miles off the coast of Australia.

The residents didn't know what Wi-Fi was, and they thought of Sky Reavers as just pleasant young people. Soon, many people flocked to see Sky Reavers, and the children began to show interest in the guns, smartphones, and even alcohol bottles that Sky Reavers had. After noticing that the alcohol bottles that Sky Reavers was holding were alcohol bottles, parents had to struggle to get their children away from the bottle. Some of the town's young men showed interest in cannabis handed to them by a blond man.

As people flocked to watch Sky Reavers, who appeared dressed in strange costumes, local police officers felt that something had happened and took to improve work performance.* However, contrary to their expectations, intruders were not partisan or allied force's spies, but Sky Reavers, dressed in shorts and tank tops.
*It's a figurative expression.

A little embarrassed by the sight in front of their eyes, the local police aimed their guns at Sky Reavers after learning that some of their items looked like guns.

"We are the Catalan police! Disarm now!"

Because of the sudden commotion, secret police officers in Catalonia took action. They began to write a report that would be delivered to Franco in Madrid.

Lake Michigan
Around 12 am, December 21st, 1941

The silence the crew of IRBS Chicago heard worried them, this area of the Pacific was never quiet, there was always some container ship or US Navy ship somewhere sailing between Boldonia and Guam, but maybe the storm had disrupted ship traffic? However one of the few systems that were working aboard IRBS Chicago, the radar, it picked up two unidentified aircraft flying towards its position. A radio message was broadcast in the general area of the aircraft, both to find out where they were and to ensure they weren't a threat.

Unidentified aircraft this is IRBS Chicago of the Independent Republic of Boldonia Naval Forces, it appears your transponder isn't working. We suggest you turn on your transponder or if you don't have one at all identify yourself, otherwise you will have to divert or we will take all necessary action to protect this vessel.

One of two options were available at this point, either the aircraft were civilian and their identification could give them a rough feeling of where they were, or they were friendly and could help the lost ship out. Meanwhile the ship kept slowly inching southwest at 1/3 speed, towards where they thought Palau was. Little did they know IRBS Chicago was inching towards its namesake...

150 Miles East of Guam
Morning, December 21, 1941

No response from Guam, Naval Strike Group Alpha had been holding at its position waiting for a response, but none came. Still though they thought nothing of it, Apra Harbor probably wasn't listening for them yet. The fleet decided it would be best to just sail towards Guam and worry about permission once the naval base at Apra Harbor knew they wanted to dock. However they still would prefer to alert them ahead of their arrival. A UH-1Y Venom would be sent to Guam ahead of the fleet for this purpose, and IRBAF procedures dictated that if an aircraft of any kind was in the air an E-2D Hawkeye was to be in the air as well to allow easier control of air units. Simultaneously the Venom and Hawkeye would be sent up with the E-2D watching the airspace around the Venom as the routine was.

Filorose Naval Base
Evening of January 23, 2024

The sudden disappearance of one of Boldonia's fleets was worrying to say the least. However most kept a level head, assuming there was just some issue with technology and Naval Strike Group Alpha would show up in Guam the next morning, have whatever problem it had fixed, and continue to the Red Sea by noon. They would have to wait anyway, the storm had been slowly clearing but it would only be clear enough to launch a search by noon. Still though most never thought it would come to that, the naval forces had trust in Admiral Jones, he wouldn't disappear without letting anyone know. This was the 21st century, entire fleets don't just disappear without a trace.

The SNF Redoubt floated in the sea lazily, for the rest of the fleet to pass through. Their armed escort consisted of two Edelweiß-Class heavy gunboats, except that wasn't all.

Through the portal, the bow of a supercarrier, immediately recognized as the SNF Valery Sablin, the only Nimitz-class carrier in the SRoM navy.

Rudolf Andropov picks up the radio set. He scowls at the sight of the ship passing through, and links into the radio comms with the Sablin

"Wait, you're not supposed to be here!"

"Carrier escort. Deal with it. ~Nyaa~" replied the other captain mockingly. The Sablin fell through the portal with a large splash, rocking the Redoubt and it's escort ships lightly.

"Wh- where are the troopships?"

the captain is cut off by a watchstander. There is a faint conversation between them in the background, shortly before the captain returns to the radio.

"Unidentified watercraft, approximately eleven total, We assume them to be of the Royal Australian Navy? From what it seems, ten light ships and possibly a battlecruiser, and two-hundered meters long? We can't tell. Sending aircraft."

Three MiG-31s sped towards the unknown fleet in formation at the low altitude cruising speed of mach 1.15 They carried conformal fuel tanks and had hardpoints removed, extending their mission capacity to a lengthy four hours and fifty minutes, also modified carry a single 57mm autocannon.

Emerald Crescent Portal

The beach, full of different people even in usual slow day, became crowded, as many have flocked to the growing portal, taking photos, making selfies and just looking at it, as the word about it spreaded like a wildfire in a dry savannah. Lots of people even entered this portal to enjoy the new beach. Even if it's cooler, it still had it's charm, water is colder, but to Reavers it was "Refreshing". Reporters and journalsits were fiercely racing to take photos and videos of this unusual anomaly, just so they could quicky write an article about it and publish it before competition would do so. Blue Bull TV and Dynamite TV company crews even started a minor fight. Some of the reporters have even entered the portal in thier chase for unique footage of this portal, that now grew to 5 meters wide and high, and it's still growing and spreading. Just like the news, that now got themselves a solid, cushy spot in Sky Reaver media and these news have quickly reached the Council and the Overboss, who decided to dispatch a group of Neoner faction scientists and wait and see for what happens next. Very soon, Emerald Crescent will see an influx of people it never saw... From curious people, to researchers, who would prepare expeditions.

Catalonian Portal Party

Silence and serenity on Catalonian beach drowned in loud and cheerful noise, as cheery Reaver crowd has entered the portal and brought their partying there with some infrastructure, needed for better partying. Music systems, colorful lights, laser show systems, Wi-Fi routers, trash bins, plastic furniture, and beach bars and vendors would appear there. To power the appliances up, Reavers have extended lots of cables through that portal. Now, this place is just like a Sky Reaver beach, with loud music blasting and people cheering and businesses seeking for spots to make money from this. In the night, Catalonians would see colorful lights from colorful spotlights and even fireworks and sky lanterns. For the sake of safety, a sheriff and bunch of his deputies would make round on this new resort, while a bunch of road warriors, that got tired of heat went into this portal to this colder beach on three tachankas, pickups armed with miniguns and started partying there too.

Some of the people would wander off the beach and stumble across Catalonians, asking them about various things, making selfies and videos for social media. After learning about local problems with food, some Reavers would bring thier food to share with the villagers. In the meantime, some enthusiasts, after learning, that there are people too, have made transmitters, that broadcasted music of genres, that didn't even exist in WW2. Power metal, techno, modern party music...

A whimsical and chaotic place, hippie paradise with armed people of different races and sexual orientations just enjoying the life and free love together, has appeared in a reactionary and restrictive Francoist Spain. What could possibly go wrong?

As for Liam Graham and his crew... He decided to deescalate and responded to cops. -"Whoah, there dudes! That's not how ya' start a polite conversation, so can we just... parlay, instead of gun pointing? After all, we don't point guns at you and we come in peace. We are a foreign delegation and these dudes with guns are security detail. Cause ya' know, these are dangeorus time and such..."- This "diplomacy" would either work or end with a shootout, where a bunch of Sky Reavers has good chances, as they don't only own guns but also traditionally train with them.

Island of Nieuw Hollister

24 Einmoss 0224

2:10:00 Euhr

The sun was ascending beyond the horizon, shining upon the lonely Greilish island, its inhabitants already busy repairing damages and restoring order to their daily routines. Even so, schools were closed for the time being, including some shops due to impending or immediate shortages, such as, the electronic and cookware stores. Though automobiles were electrically powered, there was only enough tyres and parts for less than 100 cars total, and only a handful of machine shops (the university included) to produce everything except raw materials, such as aluminium, silicon, and oil.

Accordingly, much to the surprise of politicians, the town bureaucracy, once a small cog in an otherwise interwoven network of red tape, offices, and clerks, swiftly stamped and approved the borougreff's orders, realising the bizarre situation at hand. And the borougreff himself didn't have to wait until the island's most able-bodied sailors mobilised their ships in an unprecedented mission. It was simple: Two windjammers set sail in each direction and establish contact with anyone they encounter.

To the north was GRESK Van Ruller and GRESK Blaakmayer, both three masted steel hulled bulk carriers; however, they soon discover they were sailing against the wind, forcing then to tack and jib, a task only partially alleviated by their schooner sail rigging. To the east was GRESK Lambert Hall and GRESK Lord Matt Eestwartlington, the former another three masted schooner and the latter a five masted full-rigged ship, an arrangement to permit the smaller ship to sail with most supplies on the larger one. To the west was GRESK Saulsdorf and GRESK Westwartsdorf and GRESK Ryansdorf, all of them single-masted sloops, and soon the fastest ships in the Greilish fleet.

Plans to send the southward expedition were met with two attempted mutinies, which, while they were both resolved peacefully, the sailors calmed by the explanation of the mission and lost internet connection, including the unusual constellations overhead, the horror and bewilderment among the sailors stopped them from setting sail. Instead, being rightfully acquitted or avoiding criminal charges, the judge understanding their behaviour, they were reallocated to the university, where they studied and observed the constellations and cosmology with the researchers, identifying the increasingly apparent abnormalities in this world. Concurrently, the borougreef, alongside his cabinet, the bureaucrats and scientists, continued to frantically assess their surroundings, the lack of aircraft (other than rescue helicopters), GPS/satellite systems, and internet connections rendering them blind.

By 9:00:00 Euhr, all three expeditions were already cloaked in darkness, nowhere near land or other ships in sight; however, two nights would pass uneventfully until the eastward expedition spotted lights in the distance. Then, when the sun finally began to rise, a Peruvian fishing trawler spotted the two windjammers, but they had no radios to communicate with the newcomers, not even a spotlight. Fortunately, the Peruvian fishermen were former servicemen, easily identifying the international maritime flag signals, realising thereafter they were friendly; however, the white, green, and orange tricolours billowing off their spankers and midden mast raised suspicions and curiosity.

Meanwhile, the westward expedition were nowhere close to land; however, none were aware of an American submarine spotting and trailing them throughout the voyage, otherwise far outpacing the diesel-electric menace, much to the annoyance of the Americans. In fact, it would not be until the subsequent night until they spotted lights in the distance, an inbound freighter alerting the Christchurch harbour of their presence. The Greilish sloops themselves, equipped with radioes, overheard the whole conversation; however, there was just one problem. From the Greilish perspective, why are these people speaking Old Greilish? From the NZ perspective, what are Dutch (maybe Swedish) sailing ships doing in the Pacific?

Concurrently, the northward expedition continued battling fierce breezes and sailing against the current, even after two more days and nights. But finally, or solemnly, the sound of a Catalina flying boat brought mixed feelings to the Greilish sailors, knowing very well that airplane bore no Greilish markings; however, the sight of the familiar number and alphabet symbols was a curious observation. Nonetheless, that flying boat circled and passed around the two schooner bulk carriers a couple times before disappearing northward - a detail the Greilish sailors noted on their reconfigured metric compasses.

Throughout those nights, having restored telecommunications, the GREETHEN continued airing the usual shows, including closedown tunes, even goodnight ones...

FREE LANDS OF THE SELKIE
International waters, approximately 160nm south of Wembury- 23 January 2024, 0000 TIMEZONE

MERIDON DEFENSE FORCES
Patrol Squadron North, Operational Detachment A24/11, Naval Patrol Service, Meridonian Navy
Resolute-class offshore patrol vessel Radiant (P1519),

Radiant, as a member of the Resolute-class of intermediate-size offshore patrol vessels, was one of the more modern vessels in the Meridonian navy, and its newest in-service class of what was affectionately called the 'pisswater Navy'- or more formally, the Naval Patrol Service. In a fleet comprised of- rather, centered around- aircraft carriers; guided missile cruisers, destroyers, and frigates; and venerable classes of submarines, an assignment to a pisswater boat provided a starkly different life from 'big ship Navy'. The Naval Patrol Service was Meridon's equivalent to a coast guard- the duties of a coast guard force split between it and the Border and Customs Control Force. In essence, the NCPS was closest thing to a gendarmerie force of the Federal Republic. It meant that the men and women who comprised the crew of Merrie patrol vessels were of a different breed and demeanor to those found aboard larger vessels, and experienced a much different lifestyle, one where there was no such thing as an everyday routine.

Radiant was deployed conducting an exchange mission in the Free Lands, an ally of Meridon, in waters the men and women were hardly accustomed to working in. The sun-bathed archipelago rarely had temperatures dip below 60 degrees Fahrenheit, and the much more frigid waters made the 5 officers and 39 ratings of the Radiant glad that their vessel, and all its necessary stations, were in climate-controlled quarters.

Their mission had been a tasking at the request of the Selkie Defense Force- they were escorting an oceanic vessel to investigate a..

"..'Unusual sea phenomenon approximately 150 nautical miles south of the Free Lands';" concluded the Chief of the Boat, Chief Petty Officer Donald 'Don' Timley, viewing the shimmering blue portal through a pair of binoculars. "Yeah, fuckin' oath it is."

The bridge of the vessel was already cluttered, a singular row of chairs facing control panels facing forward, not to mention the seven sailors occupying it. Three of the ship's five officers- commanding, executive, and tactical- as well as the Chief, the helmsman and the leading rate handling communications- were cobbled into the room. The outlier stuck out like a sore, literally green thumb- the pilot of the H50M5 Seahawk parked on Radiant's rear flightdeck, which in itself was also sticking out- Radiant had the deck space, but had no hangar and limited aviation facilities.

"That she is;" concurred the boat's captain, Lieutenant Commander Beatrice Akerson, more commonly referred to as 'Skip', who looked petulantly at the unarmed civilian vessel to their side. "Helm, half ahead. Looks like plain ocean but I'd rather not take the risk." She turned to the far right of the bridge towards the comms rating. "RO, Any word from Kohina?"

Sailing to their south and returning from an exercises was 1 Carrier Task Group, centered around the Sistine-class aircraft carrier Kohina and her escorts. The helicopter aboard Radiant belonged to one of the destroyers of the formation, and should they call for it, they were shortly under a day's sail away.

"Aye, ma'am, they're peeling off Maieve to come take a gander, too. Should be here in the next few hours, she's steaming ahead of 'em. Apparently NAVCOM's gotten awful dodgy with understanding this horsewater and is waiting for us to phone'em back to see if they send the rest of the group."

"Can't say I blame them;" added the ship's executive officer, Lieutenant Michael Pierra- a man much older than his rank might imply, he was risen from the ranks into his commission. "I wouldn't believe it either. Word passed from the SDF scout ships is that it's just some ocean phenomenon on the other side of that thing, but.."

"Well;" the skipper shook her head as the pair of ships came close to the barrier. "..Suppose we're about to have our report here soon." The barrier passed, and Radiant and her charge went ahead.

Beyond the Astarian Eastern Portal...
Janurary 24th, 2024/Whichever date is it on the other side..

Captain Marc Herlea
As the Captain of the Mariana-class nuclear attack submarine IAS Alaska, alongside the rest of the IAS Columbia Strike Group which my sub is a part of, we crossed the portal yesterday in the early evening.
After spending the night doing circles within a two -mile range of the portal, taking samples of water and analysing our environment by short-range air patrols, we received orders this morning that we had to investigate a bit further in depth this ocean around us. So far, nothing happened, but that did not mean it would stat this way forever. This portal was here for a reason, all of us in the Strike Group, from Rear Admiral Girs to the lowest-ranked sailor.
And so, it was decided that it would be my sub, who would be the scout in this mission. As it is of course out of the question that the entire Strike Group leaves the safety of the portal vicinity for now.
Since the portal is facing east, according to our compasses, my officers and I decided that we would go in this direction.

After sailing for two hours, at periscope depth and slow speed, with our passive sonar on, I am starting to become bored. Aside from noises characteristics of whales, sharks, and other types of aquatic fishes and mammals, nothing new or unusual to report.
But suddenly, as I pace back and forth in the command center, the voice of one of the sonar operators startles me.

"I have something unusual!" exclaims the young Seaman as he raises his hand.
Immediatly, me, and my 2IC, Lieutenant Commander Gary Pisciota, rush to hs console and grab earphones to hear the sounds he spotted.
Indeed, I can clearly hear right now that this is not something animal, or even organic this time. No, this time, what we have just spotted...is another sub. But the sound seems a bit strange though...

"Any idea of what it could be?" I ask the Seaman with a raised eyebrow.

"No Sir, it is clearly a submarine for sure, but of which type, I can't tell. Judging by some specific noises here and there, I would bet it's a diesel one. But aside from this, I don't know."

"I have an idea, but it may sound a bit far-fetched." chimes in Gary, as he raises a tentative hand.

"Just say it Gary." I ask with a smile. "Don't worry, it can't be stranger than what has happened so far." I add with a chuckle.

"I don't doubt it." replies my second-in-command, and friend, chuckling as well.
"Anyway..." he continues as he becomes serious again, "I saw a documentary on WW2 German U-boote two days ago, very documented, and there were sonar recording of the era, of what some sounded like. I would be ready to bet with an 85% chance that this is one we're sailing towards right now."

Upon hearing this, everyone in the command center becomes silent, as all heads turn towards us.

"A German WW2 U-Boote?" asks one of the Navigation Warrant Officers. "What's next, Japs?"

"Can it." I reply with a sharp tone. "Gary, you do realise this is indeed far fetched, right?" I ask my friend, him nodding in answer.
"On the other hand, you're a Golden Ear on two years in a row, 2005 and 2006. So, I'm tending to believe in your hypothesis."
(Note: in the Astarian Navy, a Golden Ear is a distinction for a very skilled sonar operator, able to recognise a large variety of sounds without any error. Trials are held each year in the submarine fleet for this distinction.)

"Thanks Marc." replies Gary. "So, what do we do?"
I turn to the Comms area, and order:
"Alert the Strike Group and the Pentagon that we have spotted what may be a possible German WW2 U-Boote, based on an hypothesis made by the second-in-command, a Golden Ear. Requesting follow-on orders."

"Yes Sir!" replies the sailor in charge.

"Now..." I grab the general intercom receiver. "All personnel, Captain Herlea. Battlestations, this is not an exercise! I repeat, Battlestations!"
Almost immediatly, the lights in the command center get off, replaced by the dim, red lights that go on in such conditions.
"Now, Sonar, switch on to active mode! Let this Fritz, or whatever it is, if this is one, know that we're here!"

"Yes Sir!" exclaim the operators in answer.
Meanwhile, Gary has ordered that our counter-torpedo measures are activated, and be ready to launch if necesary.

"Now, let's see what this fucker is about..." I mutter, as I take my command spot, near the periscope...

Beyond the Astarian Western Portal...

Lieutenant Walrik Aspen

Like our colleagues in the east, our Carrier Strike Group ventured beyond the portal, and did circles within a two miles radius of it. Unlike the Columbia though, analysis of water samples and temperature led us to believe that we had rather landed in a tropical ocean, rather than a temperate one.

But just as the orders came to explore further beyond, our radars spotted something. Apparently, beyond the horizon line, what seemed to be a large fleet was approaching our position.
If some of you ask why we didn't spot it sooner, our radar ranges extending way beyond the simple horizon, that's simple: we didn't have them online. It took us hours to prepare to explore in degraded conditions (that means without satellites, internet, Blue Force Trackers, etc), exchanging info back and forth with Naval Command, that extended surveillance wasn't the top of our priority. But since right now, the higher-ups have finally agreed on procedures, it's time to get into the main game.

Anyway, back to this fleet approaching us from the West. Unlike for the Columbia and her Strike Group, Rear Admiral Qvar decided to send an air patrol towards this fleet, rather than a submarine.
And that's how I find myself right now, sitting in my F-35C Linitus (Lightning in Astarian), as we're catapulted off the Ebon Atoll, me and my wingman Lieutenant Carlos Carrer.
Armed with 4 Drakkar long range anti-ship missiles, two missiles on each plane, alongside fuel tanks and the usual complement of air-to-air missiles, our two planes take off, and climb to 20 000 feet as we move west to meet and observe this fleet. Soon after, we spot it on our radars.

20 minutes later, we finally arrive on our objective. And as we start circling the group of ships...what?
Blinking a few times, and I'm sure Carlos does too in his cockpit, what we see before our eyes is a vision of the past. From what I can remember of my history classes, both in school and at the Naval Academy, what we see in front of our eyes are ships used by the Imperial Japanese Navy in WW2.
I immediatly contact the Ebon Atoll and report the information to them, alongside the video feed we have started to record. The answer does not take time to come back to us.

"Hammer 1-1, Watcher. Info from the Ebon Atoll tells that what we have right now are: A Fuso class Battleship, an Aoba-class heavy cruiser, two Nagara-class cruisers, and 3 Shiratsuyu-class destroyers." reports back our Falcoye (aka our onboard AWACS.), their callsign being Watcher, and mine Hammer 1-1.

"Watcher, Hammer 1-1, thanks for the precise info. Any orders on how to proceed?" I ask.

"At this rate, if they keep sailing this way, they shall be within their maximum gun range to reach us in half an hour at best. Keep circling them, we'll try and establish contact. If you are engaged by AA fire though, you have the green light to engage with your Drakkars."

"Hammer 1-1 copies all, wilco." I finish, just before hearing my wingman confirm too.

As we keep circling from above, we soon hear the following message in Japanese, mostly likely broadcasted on every frequency.

"Unidentified group of warships, this is the IAS Ebon Atoll Carrier Strike Group of the Astarian Imperial Navy. You are currently sailing towards us, and will soon enter our security zone. We ask that you decline your identity and purpose please. Failure to do so in a timely manner will lead you to be considered potentially hostile, with the risk of being engaged by appropriate means."

Courteous, but to the point. I like it.

Keisaer Adrean Blachkor

"So, a possible U-boot in the east, 7 Japanese surface ships in the West, all WW2 vintage. All possibly sent to recon the portals we just got through. That's surely a lot to digest." I recap, as I sit in a situation room under the Palace with some members of the Imperial Security Council.
Sitting with me and my wife Anna, her father Konstantin Melnik, Commander in Chief of the Keiserlig Custos;
the First Secretary, William Raven;
the Defense Secretary, Patrick Barrera;
the Secretary of State, Michael Foxter;
and the Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristen Halberd.

"Not to mention two additional portals that appeared in Joseon, one in Seoul and the other near Jeju Island." replies Foxter. "We just got word that Fubuki-class destroyers got out of the one near the island, engaged Joseon naval assets, before being sunk by air strikes. And in Seoul, our embassy is reporting that the one who just appeared has Korean civilian on the other side, but Japanese soldiers erecting barricades. Tank and Infantry battalions are being mobilized to intervene and contain the threat as we speak."

"Good, we'll have to send them a message later." nods Anna satisfyingly, her arms crossed. "Any news from other of our territories?" she asks Kristen.

"Nothing so far, all Coast Guard stations and bases have been put on high alert as per DEFCON 3 Protocol, but we have yet to see the appearance of other portals near our lands."

"Good." chimes in Raven, crossing his hands over the table. "Now, the main question is, how do we act? These vessels our sailors are about to encounter beyond the portals may belong to what were our WW2 enemies. For all we know, we could have been sent back to our own past, or even the ones of others. I'd advise caution..." he says witha serious tone, before turning his head to Anna and me, smirking a bit. "...even though I know you two are going to dive in anyway. And in a way, I can't blame you. Just ensure you don't die out there."

"We won't, don't worry." I reply with a warm smile, a spark of excitment in my eyes, just like Anna.
"If we do end up fighting them though, Ii don't want for us to commit our full armed forces to this."

"Me neither." agrees Anna. "Patrick, what would you recommend to mobilize?" she asks our Defense Secretary.

"Right now, two additional Carrier Strike Groups per portal seem like a good idea. The Adrean is, of course, considered ready to be deployed." he replies with a smile. Anna and me nod in answer, excited that the carrier we usually use when deployed in the field is ready.
"Aside from this, three Marine Expeditionary Brigades, one Ranger Regiment, a separate Airborne Brigade, an Armored Division, an Air Assault one, and two Infantry. As well as Air Force assets, but that remain to be determined. And of course, various special forces assets."

"As for us, I'll be readying two Regimental Battlegroups." chimes in Konstantin. "And like Raven said, don't die out here." he adds with a smile.

"We won't Dad. Thanks." replies Anna, before kissing her father on the cheek.
"All right, time to get to work. Michael, stay with us, we'll send a message to the Koreans."

"Okay." answers Foxter, before everyone stands up, and go to carry out their respective tasks.

Subject: Portal appearance

Prime Minister, esteemed Ministers,
we have heard of the two portals that appeared in your territory, and the subsequent events that followed. We'd like to first extend our congratulations for how the Joseon Navy dealt with the threat.
Now, in case you're not aware already, two similar portals have appeared on our East and West Coast, the Eastern one 300 kms off our coast, at our capital's latitude, and the Western one midway between our West Coast and our Hawaiian Islands.
Based on intel gathered by two Carrier Strike Groups sent beyond those portals, as we write, what seems to be a German U-boot, based on sonar analysis, and a fleet surface of ten WW2 Japanese vessels are sailing towards our respective eastern and western portals. We have yet to engage them in any kind of offensive or defensive action.
Like you, even though in a different context, our nation was engaged in its own WW2. As we've yet to determine on which date we have landed on the other side, and more importantly, if this is either of our respective pasts, or even a completely different one, we will act with caution. However, we still have ordered that some Army, Marine and Navy elements, as well as Keiserlig Custos (Imperial Guard) troops, be mobilized, to be ready for deployment on the other side.

We'v yet to see what this will result in the long run. But rest assured of one thing: the Astarians will stand by Joseon in this matter. May the Stars watch over you and your people, Prime Minister, and may Astartes guide the hands of your soldiers.
If you'd like to start coordinating efforts or whatever, just send the word to our embassy and we'll reply accordingly.

Signed,
His Imperial Majesty Adrean Blachkor
Her Imperial Majesty Anna Blachkor

Seoul, the Korean peninsula(Under Japanese occupation)
December 21st, 1941

The Japanese governor-general of Joseon, Minami Jirō, almost lost his mind due to countless reports. Now, the government in Tokyo seemed to regard the huge ring in the middle of Seoul as a threat, and for this reason, they were issuing new orders to Minami Jirō every hour. Even most of the three Japanese military divisions residing on the Korean Peninsula were converging on Seoul. This was because unidentified soldiers began to appear beyond the ring.

Even worse, when two Koreans who attempted to assassinate Minami Jirō took advantage of the sudden confusion and escaped, a skit ensued in which all Japanese police in Seoul were mobilized to search.

Minami Jirō cursed that ring. Because of the ring, Minami Jirō, who had reigned like a king on the Korean Peninsula, was presented with annoying tasks. Even the commander of Japanese forces on the Korean Peninsula was trying to take advantage of the chaos to push the governor out and take political initiative for himself.

Minami Jirō should not lose his initiative. He had to show his authority by giving orders to the commander of the Japanese military on the Korean Peninsula. He called the commander.

"Out of the three divisions on the Korean Peninsula, gather the four regiments of elite troops and send them to Seoul, and put the rest on standby near Seoul! This is my order! If you refuse to obey my orders, I will ask the government to remove you from office!"

Seoul, The Great Kingdom of Joseon

When General Jeong Tae-shin heard that the soldiers had successfully sealed off the perimeter of the ring, he began to work out what to do next. According to reports, people from across the ring and here could communicate with each other. But people from just over the ring spoke Japanese and Joseon's soldiers spoke Korean so they couldn't understand each other.

At least sound could travel between both sides of the ring. However, it was unknown whether people or objects could travel between both sides of the ring. Although drastic measures had to be taken to confirm this, Joseon's soldiers could not do anything other than stop anyone from crossing the ring because they should not provoke the unknown soldiers beyond the ring.

However, military commanders, including him, and the government should not neglect the ring in the middle of Seoul. Ultimately, at some point, he will have to take drastic measures.

Jeong Tae-Shin made a decision and dialed the Prime Minister's Office. As he expected, Prime Minister Park Yohan answered the phone quickly.

Image
Prime Minister
Park Yohan
"Yes, General Jeong Tae-Shin. What are you calling about?"

Image
General Jeong Tae-Shin
"Mr. Prime Minister, I intend to send a reconnaissance drone over the ring to identify the situation over the ring and investigate the ring. I need permission for this."

Park Yohan was silent for a moment. Park Yohan, who had been silent for about ten seconds, continued the conversation again, but his tone and voice remained unchanged.

Image
Prime Minister
Park Yohan
"Can you tell me why you have to do drone reconnaissance over the ring?"

Image
General Jeong Tae-Shin
"Mr. Prime Minister. The government and the military have a duty to scrutinize the unidentified ring that appeared in the middle of the capital city to protect the safety and property of its citizens. We also need to grasp the situation beyond the ring to overcome the hostile situation where unknown soldiers are waiting armed beyond the ring. Drone reconnaissance is the best response to identify the situation safely while minimizing stimulation of the opponent."

Image
Prime Minister
Park Yohan
"Okay, conduct drone reconnaissance over the ring. However, do not deploy armed drones."

Park Yohan easily accepted Jeong Tae-shin's request. Park Yoan was a person who stepped up boldly when needed and sometimes made risk-taking choices. Therefore, Jeong Tae-shin expected that Park Yoan would easily accept Jeong Tae-shin's request, and indeed he did.

Image
General Jeong Tae-Shin
"Thank you, Prime Minister. I will report the results of the drone reconnaissance within today."

The number of Joseon troops surrounding the ring was approximately over 800. Fourteen K1A2 tanks were pointing the main guns to the ring, and one battalion of the Military Police Group and one battalion of the 56th Infantry Division were monitoring the other end of the ring while keeping civilians away from the ring.

The 56th Infantry Division's K-151 tactical vehicle took off a D 16 Wasp VT-UAV on the orders of General Jeong Tae-shin. The drone buzzed and flew towards the ring, and entered the ring moments later.

When a drone suddenly flew into the ring, Japanese soldiers across the ring aimed their guns at the drone. However, the drone began to freely fly over Seoul beyond the ring without any response.

Seoul, The Great Kingdom of Joseon
January 25th, 2024

A day after the ring appeared in the middle of Seoul, the prime minister convened the NSC again. The collection of information through drones resulted in more results than expected, and the contents were somewhat questionable.

Image
Prime Minister
Park Yohan
"A drone reconnaissance was conducted over the ring yesterday at around 5:30 pm under the leadership of the Capital Defence Commander, Jeong Tae-Shin, and my approval. And I will share with you all the results."

Image
Minister of Justice
Seo Seungjo
"Mr. Prime Minister, in the face of confrontation between the troops of both sides, prematurely flying drones to the other side seems to be a rather risky move."

Image
Prime Minister
Park Yohan
"Anyway, the drone reconnaissance is already over. The drone was recovered and the other side did not fire. It was also conducted based on my judgment that that ring should not be left in the middle of Seoul without scrutiny. I will not receive any further opposition to this."

When Park Yohan gestured, the secretaries handed out documents with photos to the ministers. The ministers, who took the documents and started reading them, looked embarrassed.

Image
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Choi Jong-Gu
"So, the world beyond the ring is the Korean peninsula of the mid-20th century, Sir?”

Image
Prime Minister
Park Yohan
"Yes, that's right. It's not yet clear why there are Japanese troops on the peninsula, but at least the world beyond the ring is the mid-20th century Korean peninsula. But that doesn't seem to be the Korean peninsula as we know it."

Image
Minister of Defense Lee Hyeyul
"Mr. Prime Minister, if the ring in Seoul is related to a Japanese destroyer that sank south of Jeju Island, we should interrogate the arrested Japanese sailors in more detail. interrogating them will give us more details, and…"

Suddenly, the secretary whispered something to the Minister of Defense. When the secretary talked to her, the Minister of Defense's expression was slightly distorted, and she checked her cell phone and continued in a louder voice.

Image
Minister of Defense Lee Hyeyul
"Sir, this is the news that just came in. Now an unidentified fleet is crossing the ring in the East China Sea and heading towards Jeju Island."

The atmosphere in the conference room changed quickly when the Minister of Defense said it. Prime Minister Park Yohan asked the Defense Minister a question with a serious look on his face.

Image
Prime Minister
Park Yohan
"What is the size of the unidentified fleet, and what is it? Is it a warship or a merchant ship?"

Image
Minister of Defense Lee Hyeyul
"They are presumed to be warships. According to the submarine's captain, 10 warships which look similar to those of World War II-era warships are crossing the ring and heading toward Jeju Island."

Image
Prime Minister
Park Yohan
"Put an alert on our naval fleets in Jeju Island and tell them to stop it from invading our waters. They may open fire if necessary."

The southern sea of Jeju Island, The Great Kingdom of Joseon
January 25th, 2024

"Colonel, this is an order issued by the Prime Minister himself. It is an order to intercept unidentified fleets currently approaching Jeju Island from the East China Sea, and to open fire if they invade our territorial waters or threaten us."

Colonel Sung Yi Seul felt a slight headache. Her fighters sank an unidentified ship yesterday, and now today she has to mobilize her entire fleet to stop unidentified ships. According to her junior in the Jinhae Naval Headquarters, the destroyer that sank yesterday was a Japanese destroyer during World War II, and the arrested sailors were saying strange things. Even a huge ring appeared in Seoul yesterday. It was the same thing that appeared in the East China Sea.

Sung Yi Seul gave a deep sigh and gave orders to the fleet.

Image
Colonel Sung Yi Seul
"Take off 24 fighters from the carrier, and make all fighters armed with anti-ship missiles. We should keep the distance from the opposing fleet at 100 km, and use aircraft to broadcast warnings to the opposing fleet. Fire immediately if they cross the territorial waters or pose a threat to us."

7 destroyers and 2 cruisers surrounded the aircraft carrier and formed a defensive formation. At the same time, 24 fighter jets took off from the carrier one after another, and a S 5 Corsair aircraft, which was responsible for the warning broadcast, also took off from the carrier.

With 24 fighter jets waiting in the rear, a S 5 Corsair aircraft approached the unidentified fleet. The pilots of the aircraft could not help but be surprised at the size of the fleet. The fleet was 10 ships in total, and one of the ships was over 200 m long. In addition, all the ships were equipped with weapons, which appeared to be deck guns.

"You are now closing in on Joseon's waters! Step back immediately!"

But it was the anti-aircraft fire that came back, not the answer.

The captain of the battleship Kongo scrutinized the unidentified aircraft with binoculars after berating the sentinel who found the aircraft late. The aircraft had a strange appearance and was speeding quite fast. The roundel of the aircraft was a first for him, but he was sure that the aircraft belonged to the United States.

Americans seemed to be quite smart. The Americans appeared to be trying to communicate information to Hawaii or Midway after deceiving the Japanese fleet by drawing fake roundel on aircraft and broadcasting with unknown content.

The captain of the battleship Kongo thought to himself that he would not be deceived by the trick.

"Shoot down that aircraft."

At the command of the captain, the battleship Kongo and its escort destroyers aimed their anti-aircraft guns at the aircraft and pulled the trigger. Numerous anti-aircraft shells flew towards the aircraft, and black smoke from the shells exploding from above covered the sky.

Hitting it seemed quite difficult because of the aircraft's high speed. But as fragments of a nearby explosion of a single shell hit the aircraft, there was a spark from the aircraft. The aircraft began to emit black smoke, and anti-aircraft guns fired harder.

The aircraft staggered and hurriedly fled north. Although it was regrettable that it did not shoot down the aircraft, the captain of the battleship Kongo was satisfied that he did not fall for American tricks.

"Colonel, the S 5 aircraft was damaged by an enemy attack. When the aircraft broadcasted a warning, the ships fired anti-aircraft guns, and the S5 aircraft now crash-landed near our fleet. Destroyer HKMS Yang Kyu is rescuing the aircraft crew."

Eventually, what had been feared happened. Now that it happened, so Colonel Sung Yi Seul had to act on the orders of the prime minister. She gave the orders to the deputy officer.

"Order fire on 24 fighter jets and the fleet. Now, we should consider the opposing fleet as an enemy fleet and fire anti-ship missiles at them."

24 KF-24 fighter jets fired all hypersonic anti-ship missiles equipped on the internal armament bay at the enemy's fleet. 48 missiles accelerated to Mach 8 shortly after launch and began to approach the enemy fleet with tremendous kinetic energy.

Image

At the same time, destroyers and cruisers declared a battle station and prepared to fight. They prepared the hypersonic anti-ship missiles mounted on the VLS. When the armaments control officer pressed the button, flames soared from the VLS and the missiles flew into the sky. 68 hypersonic anti-ship missiles accelerated at Mach 9, which was faster than fighters' missiles, and stormed the enemy fleet.

Lake Michigan
December 21st, 1941

Major Harry Madison, a pilot of PBY Catalina, was flying over Lake Michigan with a rookie pilot. The rookie sitting next to him was a graduate of the Naval Academy as soon as the war broke out. Harry was very scared that the only person who could assist him during the flight was a rookie pilot, but he had no choice. The orders that were issued in a hurry from Washington, D.C., were clear, and maybe he could write a new history.

As the huge ring that appeared in the middle of Lake Michigan came into view, the fear of the unidentified ring grew louder in Harry's head than the fear of a rookie's mistake. He couldn't understand what he was looking at. It was simply a bizarre sight.

Surprisingly, there was a ship right near the ring. The strange thing is that Harry does not know the ship. Harry was very interested in naval ships and kept information in his brain about all the ships the Navy had, from huge battleships and aircraft carriers to small torpedo boats.

But the ship now floating on Lake Michigan was unlike any other ship owned by the U.S. Navy. The ship was not large, but it was certainly armed.

As soon as Harry tried to fly closer to the ship to get a closer look at it, English broadcasts began to play on the ship.

If he remembers correctly, the Independent Republic of Boldonia is a non-existent country. But the ship's name was 'Chicago.'

"Do you understand this situation?"

Harry asked the rookie pilot next to him, but he shook his head and answered.

"Umm……..I don't know, sir."

For a moment, Harry suspected a Japanese spy ship. Japanese spies might float a ship on Lake Michigan, confuse the U.S. military, and then sabotage a nearby city (especially Chicago!).

But in an uncertain situation, Harry could not pull the trigger.

Meanwhile, the ship was now in a position to see Chicago with the naked eye.

Waters near Guam
December 21st, 1941

A small fleet, led by the heavy cruiser IJN Takao, was patrolling waters near Guam with three destroyers and the light cruiser Tatsuta to protect Guam they had just taken from the United States. Japan had taken control of Guam and was targeting the Philippines. If the Philippines, an important U.S. Pacific stronghold, falls, Japan will be able to control Oceania, Australia, Hawaii, and even the U.S.

IJN Takao patrolled Guam's waters with as many as 20 anti-aircraft guns, ready to fire at any time, with ten 200mm in diameter deck guns. If a U.S. fleet or aircraft were to show up, they would experience Takao's wrath.

As soon as E-2D Hawkeye took off from the aircraft carrier, something was spotted on the radar. E-2D's radar told the fleet that there were five large ships at a fairly close distance of 60 km from the fleet. One of the ships was as long as 200 m, and none of the others were small. What is certain is that they are much bigger than fishing boats.

Catalonia
December 21st, 1941

The Catalan police were a little embarrassed by Liam Graham's comment. So these strange people were introducing themselves as the foreign delegation. Certainly, the Reavers did not look like Catalans or Spaniards. So are they really foreign delegations?

While the police hesitated, villagers who were close to them approached the police. They pulled the police to the beach, while dancing to power metal music from the beach.

"Guys! Come and play with us! You don't have to be too serious, do you?"

Before long, more villagers rushed and drove the police to the beach. The police were embarrassed at their wit's end, but they were eventually led by the villagers.

The secret police, who were watching this whole scene from afar, wrote a telegram to be sent to Madrid in a hurry.

From beyond the ring, several suspicious people appeared and occupied the beach. At the moment they seem to be touting an unknown ideology, and the local police have already been disarmed. Military forces should be deployed immediately.

In fact, the situation was not very serious even to the secret police's eyes. It was just that…........something was going on that was hard to explain in terms of his head. However, the secret police wanted to quickly produce results and ascend to a high-ranking position in Madrid. To do so, he had to make up even stories that didn't exist. Even if the stories he made up would cost the lives of residents, it didn't matter.

Waters 2,000 nautical miles from Australia

Japanese ships, including the cruiser Haguro, were stunned by the sudden flying objects. Something unknown whether it was an aircraft or not quickly passed over their heads, and the noise they made was tremendously loud.

The captain of the cruiser Haguro had to make a quick decision. This was a dangerous area, and those that had just passed overhead were likely the new American aircraft. If so, what he had to do was clear.

"Prepare anti-aircraft fire! Fire as soon as the flying object approaches!"

There were three flying objects in total. Because they were so fast, the anti-aircraft soldiers had no choice but to aim at them and pull the trigger at a rough estimate.

Black smoke made by anti-aircraft artillery shells began to cover the sky.

Waters near the southern island of New Zealand

The Royal Australian Navy cruiser HMAS Hobart patrolled the southern island of New Zealand and tried to prepare for any possible Japanese invasion. Tensions were high among sailors due to the sudden war just a few weeks ago, and on the previous day, a sailor accidentally pulled the trigger of a machine gun. This was due to the heightened tension.

Thus, 3 ships, which appeared in front of the nervous crew, caught the crew's attention. They had a mast and did not look like a warship at all, but the crew of the cruiser thought that ships could be Japanese spy ships.

However, they could not fire first unless that ships was the warships. The captain decided to put the cruiser's crew on board to investigate ships, and the cruiser began broadcasting over a loudspeaker.

"We are HMAS Hobart, Royal Australian Navy. We are going to inspect your ship for a while, so please cooperate."

One of the German Navy's U-boats, the U-107, along with its fellow submarines, U-67, U-71, U-567, U-751, and U-108, were quietly tailing the convoy to attack the Allied convoy. The submarines intended to attack the convoy after forming the German submarine tactic 'wolf pack', and they actually sank a merchant ship just a day earlier.

With a mission to stop the submarines, the convoy consisted of 32 merchant ships, three destroyers, four frigates, nine corvettes, and one escort carrier. The biggest threats to the submarines were an escort carrier and Martlet fighters, but the waves were quite large, making it very dangerous for the fighters to take off from the small vessel, an escort carrier.

With the fighters unable to take off easily, the submarines took advantage of this opportunity to try to attack the convoy. Until something appears before their eyes.

As the huge ring floating in the middle of the sea began to come into the submarine and convoy's sights, not only the convoy's crew but also the submarine's crew stopped what they were going to do and fixed their eyes on the ring. It was perhaps the most bizarre event of their lives, and something unthinkable.

Furthermore, when two ships emerged from the ring, the convoy and the submarine's crew thought that the ships were either envoys of God, or invaders from outer space. But whatever the truth, they did not know the identity of the two ships that came out of the ring. There has never been such a bizarre incident since the war began.

HMS Blankney, one of Convoy's destroyers, mustered up her courage. The destroyer's crew honked their horns and sent signals to the two ships that came out of the ring. The signals included greetings, warnings, and identification.

Crews of the U-72 -a German's U-boat- found a large fleet believed to be the English or U.S. fleet and prepared to fight. Now the U.S. is no longer a neutral power, so the U-72 was obliged to attack the enemy fleet.

The vice-captain, who checked his periscope while the sailors were loading torpedoes, noticed something strange. The ships of the fleet that the U-72 discovered were unlike any other ship known so far, in terms of appearance and more.

The vice-captain approached the captain and asked him to postpone the attack. However, the captain, convinced that the enemy fleet was a combat fleet of new American ships, ignored the vice-captain's request and ordered the torpedo launch.

On the captain's orders, U-72 fired two torpedoes. But they didn't know what consequences it would have.

Not long after the sentinels discovered 2 unidentified aircraft, which had extremely high speed, a mysterious broadcast rang out throughout the Japanese fleet. According to radio broadcasts, which began streaming on almost all frequencies, the Japanese mobile fleet was on the verge of invading the area of the Astarian Imperial Navy. The question was who the Astarian was.

Right now they're not attacking the Japanese fleet. Then they might not be Americans or Australians. However, according to the current location of the Japanese fleet, those who are broadcasting could be Americans, Australians, or British.

So the 2 aircraft that are now flying overhead are the secret weapon of the Allies, and the 'Astarian Imperial Navy' could be the secret code name of the Allied fleet. Maybe an inexperienced Allied pilot accidentally stated his code name.

Hoshino Takeo, the commander of the warship Fuso, pondered it carefully. For a moment, he attempted to communicate with the aircraft and then tried to resolve it through dialogue. However, by any stretch of the imagination, it was more likely that 2 aircraft currently flying overhead his fleet belonged to the Allies.

"Shoot down that aircraft."

He concluded after a lot of thought, but as a result, the conclusion will be disastrous.

All ships in the fleet, including the battleship Fuso, aimed their anti-aircraft guns at the aircraft at the command of the captain. When the officer's signal was issued a moment later, the anti-aircraft guns fired in unison. The smoke produced by the fire of anti-aircraft guns began to fill the sky, and the Japanese soldiers were overwhelmed with adrenaline.

The Astarians' telegram provided Joseon with good news and new information at the same time.

Park Yohan
"So, the rings appeared not only in us but in the sea of the Astarians. By the way, they referred to the rings as 'portals'."

Image
Minister of Defense Lee Hyeyul
"Mr. Prime Minister, in general, the term 'portal' can be interpreted as a medium connecting one side to the other. If what the Astarians say is true, then we can interpret all the events that we have been through."

"The rings that appear in Seoul and the East China Sea are portals that connect some world to ours. And the world that connected to our world through that portal is a World War II world, but it doesn't seem to be exactly the same as our history."

Prime Minister Park Yohan's expression on his face changed slightly for the first time since the meeting began. His expression was slightly distorted.

Image

Park Yohan
"That sounds a bit of a absurd story."

But the Minister of Foreign Affairs' idea seemed to be the same as that of the Minister of Defense. He caught the attention of people by coughing in vain and then started talking.

Image
Minister of Foreign Affairs
Choi Jong-Gu
"Mr. Prime Minister, we should note that the Astarians also say the same thing as the Minister of Defense. The information that their fleet brought is clear. Germany's U-boat and Japan's fleet. They are all World War II objects."

"Honestly, I find it difficult to take this situation seriously, too. But all the circumstances and evidence point in one direction."

"Mr. Prime Minister, the world beyond the ring is the world of World War II. Regardless of whether it is our world's past or a parallel world, the answer is clear."

Park Yohan was speechless for the first time since the start of the meeting. The world he knew suddenly changed until yesterday. He started thinking about how to accept this unusual thing. But even that didn't last long.

Minister of Defense Lee Hyeyul
"Mr. Prime Minister, according to the news that has just come in, the 9th Carrier Strike Group and an unidentified fleet have begun to engage."

What everyone was worried about finally happened.

Your Majesties,

Thank you for your careful and firm words.

Our navy is currently engaged in combat with a newly emerged fleet in waters south of Jeju Island. According to our analysis, the enemy fleets were ships used by Japan during World War II, and the unidentified soldiers inside the ring in Seoul were also Japanese soldiers during World War II.

We are currently trying to control the situation in the sea south of Jeju Island, and we will continue to act carefully. We are trying to figure out the situation, but we have yet to figure out whether this is a similar past to ours or a completely different past.

We are paying attention to the appearance of rings like those of Seoul on the East and West coasts of the Astarian. What is certain is that if the forces beyond the ring come out in a threatening manner, we will stand with the Astarians and against the threat together.

We hope for close contact and information sharing between the two governments through embassies for the time being, but we think we should prepare for real-time contact between the military leadership of both countries in case of emergency.

May your country be blessed with infinite glory.

Japan is starting to realize that this 'ring' incident is not normal. It's a supernatural phenomenon that can actually have serious effects. And one of the rings that has appeared so far is in the sea between Japan and China. It means that someone from beyond the ring may pose a threat to the Japanese mainland.

Military commanders in Tokyo still suspected that the rings were secret weapons of the Allies. Therefore, they thought that the most effective way to get rid of the rings was to defeat the Allies quickly.

However, Japan had to be prepared for the rings that had already appeared. The mainland could be in danger, and Japan's fleet could be in danger on all sides. Thus, while Japanese commanders intensified their offensive against the islands of the Philippines and the Pacific, the army took charge of the offensive in the Philippines. This prompted a strong backlash from the Japanese navy which feared weakening its influence, which eventually led the navy to decide to keep some of its major fleets in the Philippines.

Nevertheless, quite a few major Japanese fleets left the Philippines for the Pacific Ocean. The burden on the U.S. Navy in the Pacific increased, but the burden on the Army in the Philippines was slightly reduced.

However, Japan did not give up on the Philippines. Aircraft of the Army Air Force, which were stationed in southern China, began to be deployed in the Philippines. They were ordered to perform missions beyond what the Navy had in charge, and now they are starting to operate on hastily built airfields in Japanese occupations north and south of the Philippines.

Meanwhile, rumors that Japan had moved major fleets to deal with something that appeared in the sea and other related rumors have reached the ears of U.S. soldiers in the Philippines.

Captain Caja Fearthainne of the Tribe of Wicklow.
Civilian Research Vessel Airmed, unknown location.
Own Reference Date: 23rd of January 2024, unknown local reference date.

The local weather was a lot worse then it had been on our side.
Choppy, rough and unsuitable for flight operations, even when you drove a SWATH-Hull, which were supposed to be especially stable in rough seas. I wondered how the Radiant was faring.
I had no idea, that we were in sub-infested waters, but we did have sonar, which was optimized for marine research, not submarine hunting. As a civilian research vessel, we didn't have a surface search radar, though, only a navigation radar, which was sufficient to spot land, little else.
We needed neither to spot the convoy.
"Report to Radiant, we are about to make contact, do not fire, please and..."
"Captain, there's a ship leaving formation.", one of my officers reported and indeed, one of the middle-sized warships broke out, turned towards us with the wide circle inherent to ships. "Looks like something out of a documentary about the DeCol-Wars..."
I nodded. "Are they radioing?"
"Yes, and honking."
I stepped to where my radio officer sat and grabbed the receiver. Indeed, a voice speaking English was asking who we were, warning us and, most importantly, greeting us.
"Good afternoon.", I replied and stopped the man in his tracks, "I am Captain Caja Fearthainne of the Tribe of Wicklow, of the Civilian Research Vessel Airmed of the Free Lands of the Selkie. The other ship is the Meridonian offshore patrol vessel Radiant. Who do we have the pleasure with? And where did we end up this time?"
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

ATLANTIC OCEAN
Position, time, date group unknown

MERIDON DEFENSE FORCES
Patrol Squadron North, Operational Detachment A24/11, Naval Patrol Service, Meridonian Navy
Resolute-class offshore patrol vessel Radiant (P1519),

The transition through the portal had met Radiant with choppy seas and cloudy skies. Her bow dipped and rose quite more severely than it had beforehand, the hands of her crew reaching out for railings, tablesides, or anything to stabilize against

"Conn, tactical!" A shocked call came down both the hallway and through the ship's main circuit to the bridge- Lieutenant Commander Akerson's heart sunk in her chest a small bit as she realized with her own eyes what the radar was not even needed to confirm. "I have four-nine surface contacts zero-three-zero for one-one. Contacts are radiating air search radars, unknown type, and are in formation!"

Though Radiant was hardly equipped for the high-end warfighting- her role being one of customs enforcement and piracy prevention- she was equipped with basic electronic warfare gear that allowed her to determine incoming radiation sources. Air search radars were the kind that that were picked up hundreds of miles away- not less than a dozen. Perhaps ironically, she was not sonar-equipped nor equipped with weapons capable of engaging submerged submarines- what might well be their largest threat.

"What in the fuck- we didn't pick this up before?" LCDR Akerson snatched a pair of binoculars from around her neck and adjusted as she fixed her eyes upon the formation. "Tacco, start getting plots on my CMS. I have warships off the port bow. Sound action stations."

"Aye, ma'am!" A receiver was plucked from the control board. "Action stations, action stations, set condition One-Zulu throughout the ship for surface action. Combat departments, make ready reports to the TAC. Action stations, action stations!"

"Conn, tactical, all weapons systems available!" The shout came immediately after the weapons officer had armed all such systems that were remotely operated- the main 55mm gun and the quad-mounts of Shortsword antiship missiles. Throughout the length of the small ship, the relatively thin door separating the bridge from the rest of the vessel carried the sounds of Radiant's 30 onboard crewmembers shouting as hatches were sealed and protective equipment donned.

The ship's communication rating picked up his own transciever to radio to the Selkie vessel off his starboard bow. "Goldfleece, this is Sunshine. We have unknown warships in formation less than fifteen miles to our northeast, remain in formation."

The Seahawk pilot turned towards the Lieutenant Commander with anxiety clearly etched on his face- aviators, particularly of the naval breed- were not ones to remain idle in times of turbulence. "Ma'am, what do you need us to do?" LCDR Akerson's face was peeled from the combat management display where vague radar dots were being clarified with identification overlays.

"You're more apt to set my flight deck alight than take off in this state, the warships off our bow notwithstanding. Right now, I need you to clear my bridge, Lieutenant." The man relented before accepting the command and withdrawing down the stairs as the Lieutenant Commander, barely skipping a beat, returned to her binoculars with squinted eyes as she got a better look at the vessels off her port bow. "Wait a minute. What the fuck kind of warships are those? They're-"

Akerson lowered her binoculars as she turned her attention to the roof-mounted electro-optical system, which swiveled on its mount to gain a higher detailed picture on the warships- that was until the view was distorted by flashes coming from the fleet. It took her a second to realize this was signal lights flashing at her vessel. Only a few seconds extra did it take for the bridge phone to sound off again with a crackle from the portside watch.

"Bridge, port watch, receiving signal lamps from portside contacts, passing message as follows... yankee, alpha, lima, space, november, alpha, victor, yankee, space, whiskey, alpha, romeo, sierra, hotel..."

"Royal Navy. I've heard this one before. British- that ensign on the EOTS matches up;" confirmed the executive officer who was looking through the same scope. "The fact we haven't been engaged yet is promising." He took up the receiver at the control board and passed a reply. "Port watch, bridge; flash a reply with identification and request their intentions."

"Flash a reply, port watch aye."

"Skip," interjected the navigation officer at a side console, his face slightly bewildered. "I've got AHRS and GPS uplink failure. Magnetic declination doesn't match up, either, I'm getting a reading in close to ten west."

"That'd put us west of Port Sistine and we're definitely not there;" the executive officer concluded as he glanced at the radar plot. "Only other location puts us in the North Atlantic, which definitely tracks for a bong boat."

"Ma'am, Airmed is broadcasting over guard frequencies. I haven't heard them transmitting on there." The chair the communications rating sat in creaked as he leaned back to face her.

"Very well, let 'em see if they can raise them on radio. Proceed and flash the reply off the port signal lamp;" she replied as she rested her binoculars back onto the lip of the table. She couldn't see the light, but watched as the men on the port side railings manipulated the beacon lamp to transmit.

"Comms, get me uplink with Maieve. Keep trying until you get a response, we need a relay out to Kohina soon as possible."

"Aye, ma'am;" came the succinct reply- the one they were waiting for, however, was a tad bit closer. The sailors manning the bridge split their attention impatiently between computer display and binocular view as they did.

IRBS Chicago continued to sail towards Palau, but the aircraft still hadn't responded. With the aircraft now visible IRBS Chicago turned its eyes towards it. Both its cameras and manual sighting with binoculars revealed an aircraft to be a PBY Catalina. A crew member with an interest in aircraft and a handy book with diagrams noticed it to specifically not be a PBY-6. And with the aircraft identified and both not responding him and some of the crew surrounding him began to eliminate possible contenders for the aircraft's identification using a table of surviving PBY Catalinas included in his book.

Anything that wasn't airworthy was obviously left out, and they knew it couldn't be a PBY-6. As well the PBY they were looking at had US markings, ruling out any from the RAAF or RNZAF. It also needed to be from the area, which eliminated contenders from outside the Pacific. With that it only left a single contender, the Centros River Heritage Preservation Association had an airworthy PBY-5A Catalina that flew out of Filorose, serial number 33963, designation N6523A. With this new information they rushed up to the bridge and showed their discovery to the captain, who then sent over another, shorter, message to the aircraft.

This is IRBS Chicago again. Are you... PBY-5A Catalina, 33963, N6523A, Centros River Heritage Preservation Association by any chance? If so please confirm, otherwise correct us and identify yourself.

They didn't entirely know which Catalina it was, but they were at least able to narrow it down enough that they had a good chance of guessing correctly. With tensions over the aircraft lowered, now knowing it was at least just an unarmed preserved heritage aircraft, the crew of IRBS Chicago could now turn their eyes away from the sky while the captain and those around him handled the warbird. The waters were calm and it was early morning, towards the southwest the lights of a city could be seen in the distance, something unexpected.

Palau did not have any cities large enough to create such a high intensity of light, neither did Guam nor the Federated States of Micronesia. However Boldonian cities with that large of a signature usually had major skyscrapers that, while not being able to be individually identified at this distance, could at least provide a feeling of what city you were looking at. This city's skyline wasn't dense enough to be Parmilo's, not mountainous enough to be Boldonia City or anywhere in Norfi, not small enough to be any other city that came to mind, the observers were stuck on what city it could be. Chicago of course never crossed their minds, for all they were aware they were still in the Pacific in 2024. Chicago's tallest building at the time was Chicago Board of Trade Building, a distinctive building yes but by 2024 it had been overshadowed in both scale and the public eye by the much more famous Sears/Willis Tower, which was nowhere to be seen. Not that they were even looking for Chicago landmarks for that matter, but the lack of any post-war structures would make it difficult for the crew to recognize it as Chicago.

Nevertheless some on the bridge noticed the lights and adjusted their course towards the city in the distance. Either they would find themselves in a friendly port or they would be asked by whatever nation the city was in to turn around and get out of their territorial waters. Either way they would be a step closer to getting back on the right track.

Pacific Ocean
December 21, 1941

Aboard Naval Strike Group Alpha, the technicians were able to bring some communication systems online. Not enough to talk to anyone outside the fleet securely, but enough to talk to each other and their aircraft without anybody listening who wasn't supposed to.

The E-2D spotted five ships on its radar and let both the carrier and the UH-1Y Venom know of their presence. Given their formation it was very likely they were military, and as far as they were aware the only military ships in the area should either be Boldonian or American, both could help the fleet. The UH-1Y was redirected to fly towards the unknown fleet and hopefully establish contact, assuming it was a friendly search party that had gone looking for them. As the Venom approached it noticed what appeared to be the naval ensign of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, an odd sight but not one that was impossible as both the United States and Boldonia heavily cooperated with the JSDF. It radioed this to the carrier and continued on its course.

However as it continued to approach both the UH-1Y and the E-2D noticed the apparent age of the fleet. The ships they spotted looked nothing like anything in the current JMSDF fleet, they in fact looked like they were from the Second World War in fact.

"Jesus..."

The UH-1Y made a 180 degree turn and hightailed back to the carrier.

"Is that that IJN, is that the IJN!?"
"Roro 1-1, say that again, who?"
"The Imperial Japanese Navy! They're back, somehow!"
"You sure it isn't the JMSDF?"
"No, not at all! They've got World War II era cruisers and destroyers they aren't the JSDF!"
"Alright head back to the ship."
"Already on the way."

Even with the pilot's testimony the fleet still needed to confirm that this was in fact not the JMSDF. A flight of F/A-18s were prepared and loaded with anti-ship missiles and air-to-air missiles. However before they took off the pilots realized their GPS systems weren't working properly, however there was little time to stay on the carrier and fix it, if this force was hostile they needed to be in the air ASAP. For now they would have to rely on radar, but luckily most of their weaponry still worked with it either being radar or laser guided. A flight of four F/A-18s and an EA-18G Growler took off and flew towards the last known position of the Japanese ships. The Growler and two F/A-18s would watch from above poised to fire and jam radar should the need arise. Once they were in place the other two aircraft would get low and conduct a flyby of the ships, but not supersonic in case the ships were indeed friendly.

Once they had taken off four other F/A-18s would take off to both locate and determine the status of Guam, checking to see if it was still under US control and if they could provide assistance. The thought that those ships were from the IJN was insane, but if they were the Boldonians couldn't take a chance. Some aboard the fleet were beginning to imagine if they had been transported back to the Second World War, radar was down and nobody they knew responded to their messages, and now the IJN had shown up. It was impossible, but maybe that impossibility had just occurred.

Pacific Ocean
January 24, 2024

It was noon, and Naval Strike Group Alpha had yet to report to either an American or Boldonian naval base. The worst case scenario had become reality, the pride of the IRBNF was lost, and a search begun. A 150 mile wide search area was formed around Naval Strike Group Alpha's charted course up to the Sulu Sea of the Philippines. Boldonian and American maritime patrol aircraft were to conduct the search flying above listening and looking for any hint of Naval Strike Group Alpha's location. In the very worst case of the ships having sunk, sonar buoys were to be dropped around the Pacific to search for the wreck. For now the Philippines weren't alerted, but if no trace had been found by the 26th the Boldonians might have to bring them in as well. But as for now, the Boldonians with their allies the Americans began the search for IRBS Hawaii and her group.

Emerald Crescent - Catalonian Party!

Everything has escalated. The portal grew in size even larger, now spanning at least 25 meters and it's still growing. Now it swallows not only cheery crowds, but also cars and even trucks, that come in and out, using a temporary road, hastly built by the municipality with concrete slabs. Different businesses went on to set up a shop or two on that Catalonian beach, while even more infrastructure was being built at full speed, and not only small beach bars, but also cafes and small shops have appeared, while local nearby villages would see an influx of Reaver people and wandering vendors appearing there and selling booze, cannabis and various services there for local currency, that would be then used by these vendors to buy gold, silver or gems, that unlike WW2 Spainish currency, can be easily turned into cash on Sky Reaver territory. A bit complicated, requires more actions, plus, losses at this conversion, but this all was offset by good sales. If there is a money shortage, barter was also fine by those travelling vendors, who sell moonshine, cannabis, toys, trinkets, and magazines of various topics, from scientific to porn. Some of the local money or their goods, they would keep separately to bribe local authorities if they interfere.

Barcelona became a prime spot for the vendors. Not only it's people are richer than the villagers and buy more things with more enthusiasm, but also, this is the place, where they exchanged Spanish currency for gold and jewelry and other valuables, they would then bring home and sell. But not just small time businesses were booming. Seeing the potential in this portal, bigger businesses became very giddy at the prospects and started investing money into this affair. Stock markets in everything related to Emerald Crescent grew bullish. In the meantime, after knowing about the sorry state of the food security in this place, a humanitarian effort would started, bringing food to the villagers.

Scientists also became euphoric and started to bring various equipment to study the portal, hoping to catch any sort of emission and research it from whatever perspective they can. Delight in Sky Reaver scientific community went through the roof, as this is a unique opportunity to make multiple revolutionary discoveries about the very essence of physics and space and time themselves. On both sides of the portal, scientists would set up their equipment and whatever data they gather would be sent to X-13 Research Complex.

However, together with joy, came the concerns... The numerous interactions with the villagers have revealed a shocking truth, that also spreaded like a wildfire! This portal leads to the Francoist Spain in 1941! While this didn't disrupt the party, even quite the opposite, attracted more people to Emerald Crescent and Catalonia, safety concerns led to a large group of sheriffs and deputies being sent to this place just in case. Together with them, a large group of Sky Reaver warriors and battlecars, technicals with different weapons, such as miniguns, anti-air machine guns and even rocket pods, made their way to secure the place from possible threats.

With Spanish armed forces most likely being deployed to this place and Francoist Regime and Sky Reavers having almost diametrically opposed ideologies... A fight is inevitable. All felt that... Warriors, sheriff and even people prepared to a Spanish attack.

As for Liam Graham and his "delegation"... They just partied together with Catalonian cops.-"And that's just how it can happen! First ya' point guns at us... Then, ya' end up drinkin' and partyin' with us! Oh, don't worry, cop officer dude... it's nothing! Ya' didn't fire upon us, so nothing bad happened and no diplomatic incidents and scandals for ya'! Wanna drink? Have that one on me! And if ya' want, as a delegation, we can organize ya' a cultural exchange trip through that portal, right into our Commonwealth! A place of freedom and equality! Just promise not to point guns at random dudes, okay? These ain't toys after all..."

All loud on Eastern Front

While the Emerald Crescent Portal was attracting lots of attention, several areas near Foxstone have reported sudden attacks by hostile groups of people, that just looked and spoke like WW2 nazi forces. "Serene Waterfalls" Commune, Chestersprings village and Deezer's Delight Motel have been attacked by the squads of nazi soldiers and a tank, who entered this portal and decided, that these places are an easy prey, where they could just forcefully demand the resources from local "untermenschen". All three places have repelled the attacks. In Serene Waterfalls Commune, a nazi squad got overwhelmed by locals, who defeated them by shooting guns and throwing junk. Deezer's Delight Motel managed to hold it's own against nazi squad, until a group of minutemen helped to repell the attack. And in Chestersprings, sheriff, his deputies and farmers have managed to rout a larger group of nazi after burning their tank with several molotovs, but not before it shelled someone's barn.

This, plus the reports of an attack on a trucker, led to a prompt investigation. The first thought was, that this is just some weird "edgelord" gang, but the further investigation led to something much more concerning... Not only the three wounded Germans, one officer and two soldiers, apprehended in Chestersprings, during the interrogation spoke only German, with only the officer having slight knowledge of English, and all had documents, identical to Third Reich ones, but a new portal has been discovered in somewhat remote place, on an unfinished road. It's construction has been abandoned long ago and it was forgotten. A portal was similar to the one in Emeral Crescent Resort, 30 meters wide and tall it was and it also grew like it's twin, and this has raised very serous concerns, that even reached the Council.

After the emergency meeting, Overboss Liam Navarro and the Council, still unable to belive what just transpired, have voted to start a military campaign against Third Reich without any hesitation or even a shade of a doubt. WMD use is totally out of question due to possible civilian casualties. A host (roughly 10000) of warriors has been quickly assembled, and the first Sky Reaver warbands have already entered the portal.

These brave, somewhat immature, drunk and high men and women looked just like always: a varied bunch of fratbros, metalheads, cowboys, cybergoths, punks, hippies, rednecks, insurgents and post apocalyptic raiders. Many of their men had long hair, tattoos were common, and some wore a celtic style warpaint. Modern military gear, combined with metal armor and other postapocalypse style and archaic parts. The vehicles looked like Mad Max style cars, but were hardier than they looked like. Armed pickups, called "Tachankas" had different sorts of weapons on them, for machine guns to rocket pods and anti-air weapons. Then, there were many Wastelander Type 4 tanks, that also had various war painting and decorations. Sky Reaver warriors, these rather... underdressed, drunk and high folks didn't mind the winter cold on the other side of the portal, that led to... Reichskommissariat Ukraine, a bit east of Dnipropetrovsk. But what do Reavers mind... is that a Sky Reavers must consume more food than an average human to be strong, it's a bit offset by Sky Reavers having strong stomachs and not being picky eaters, but still...

Just as they have entered, they would establish a foothold base camp and spread out, scout the place and whatever nazi groups or military objects were found would be relentlessly attacked by a bunch of cheery radiers, that employed a variety of cunning tactics, such as ambushes, hit-and-run, or relentless assaults with a support of "Starfall" MLRS, attack helicopters and FPV drones, that would drop grenades on German positions. Anti-air machine guns and MANPADs brought by Reavers would be useful against enemy aircraft, and Xplosive Violence RPGs in the meantime, would be used agaisnt tanks together with molotovs and artillery fire. And as for the air battles... Several Reaver 51-VTOLs have already flew into the portal. Cutting edge even by 2020s standards hypersonic jet fighters, that can take off vertically, and have more variety of maneuvers and speeds than a regular jet, would be a tough opponent for German aviation, that's for sure. But only few were sent for now and thye would operate carefully, since losing even small their number to a such technoligically inferior foe would be an embarrassment, that would hurt the pride. And in melee combat, Sky Reavers would use their katanas, axes, warclubs (baseball bats with spikes, studs or chains,), and hellblades (flaming swords, like Shishkebab from Fallout 4). Modern tactics would be combined with archaic, resulting in a wacky, but rather effective and unpredictible manner of fighitng. In settlements, they would try to avoid civilian casualties.

Whatever villages Reavers willl manage to occupy would look like this: Drunken and high warriors would deface nazi posters, write insults to nazi and Hitler on Rech property walls, humiliate SS officers, pillage the mansions of known nazi elites, and share food and alcohol and even cannabis and LSD with villagers. Many Sky Reavers speak Russian, so communications won't be too troublesome. They would also spread messages like: "Attention, dudes and dudettes! This village is now under Sky Reaver occupation!", "Comlply, if ya' wanna throw off nazi yoke!", or "Food handouts gonna be on the central square! Be sure to try a kebab!", "Report all nazi collaborators! If ya' report one and this is truth, ya' gonna get a bottle of wine, absinthe or whiskey!", "Partying will continue until morale improves!", "Mama Anarchy loves her sons!", "Race theory is total bullshit! We are all humans, no matter the skin color!"

On the radio, Reavers would spread their anti-nazi propaganda and other messages. Most likely, that Sky Reaver actions would attract not only German, but also Soviet attention, if it didn't do that already. Now, Sky Reavers anticipate, that USSR will contact them... Also, soon, even more Sky Reavers will enter the portal and bring better communication equipment, as sadly, satellites are not present in this WW2 world and this would somewhat slow down Sky Reaver spreading...

Some Sky Reaver warriors have fantasized, imagining, how they would fight Third Reich with a new gun. But none of them ever expected to fight actual Third Reich. Even in skirmishes, they were in sslight disbelief, having thoughts, that this is just a wacky dream, but they were glad nontheless, that they would actually get to fight this kind of evil. More hosts of warriors would be assembling in the meantime, preparing to enter the portal, slay the evil and mark their guns and blades in nazi blood.

To the East...
January 24, 2024/Local time still unknown

Captain Mark Herlea
Mariana-class nuclear attack submarine IAS Alaska

Ever since we have spotted the U-boote, we have kept our sonar in active mode, and locked on him. So far, no contact engaged, but the U-boote has moved closer to our fleet, and is currently on our side now.

As I keep my eyes glued to the periscope, spotting on the surface above the telescope of the German, the sonar operators shout something that startles me

"Torpedoes away! We have two torpedoes away from the U-boote, inbound for the CSG!"

"Scheisse!" I swear, causing a few of the sailors near me to raise an eyebrow.
Immediatly, I order my crew to contact the Strike Group, and load two torpedoes to be launched at the U-boote.
In the meantime, we get ready to release our decoys, small metallic pods that we release in the water to draw the torpedoes away from the sub, a new system in the Astarian Navy, similar to flares on airplanes

"Captain, the Admiral is on the line." tells me one of the Comms sailors after a minute. "The torpedoes didn't hit, they launched their decoys. We are to fire one torpedo, and if the combat continues, fire the other."

"Wilco. Tube 1, launch!" I order on the intercom. A few seconds later, the sub is shaken by the very, very slight vibration of the torpedo leaving its tube.
And after half a minute...

"Good splash!" exclaims the sonar crew. "Confirmed hit!"
As we all cheer in the command post, a few minutes pass, before...
"They're emptying their ballasts, they're surfacing!"

"Fuck yeah!" I exclaim. "Gary, contact the Admiral." I ask my second-in-command

"I already did it, they're gonna send two helos with GULs to seize it." he replies from the comms station. "Oh, and we are to stay submerged, but ready another torpedo. If they try anything, we sink them definitively."

"Aye Aye." I reply with a sharp nod, before giving my orders.
As we now circle the damaged U-boote, like a shark circling a castaway, I hear the following message being relayed to the U-boote, in German.

"Unidentified U-boote, this is Rear Admiral Farel Girs, commanding officer of the IAS Columbia Carrier Strike Group of the Astarian Imperial Navy. The IAS Alaska, a submarine, has torpedoed you. We are about to send a boarding party in two helicopters to take control of your submarine. We ask that you surrender and constitute yourselves as prisoners of war. If you do so, no harm shall befell you, and you will be treated fairly. Try to resist or do anything stupid, and we send you at the bottom of the sea for good."

A few seconds pass in silence, before he adds:

"Oh, and we'd better find your Enigma machine and all its coding manuals when we board. If you try to destroy or alter them in any way, you can be sure that your fate will be worse than your darkest dreams. Am I clear?!"

I turn my head to my crew, clearly surprised, as they look back to me with raised eyebrows.

"A but brutal, but well...Enigma." concludes Gary after a few seconds. "If we can get our hands on one, the war is as good as over."

"True, true." I nod, before looking back in the periscope.
Above sea level, I can clearly see two MH-20s approaching the U-boote. One is armed with two missiles and torpedoes, the other has its side doors opened, GUL operators abaord ready to rappel down on the German sub...

To the West...
January 24th, 2024/Local time still unknown

Lieutenant Walrik Aspen.

After hearing the message from the Ebon Atoll, Carlos and me continue to circle the group of Japanese warships sailing in the direction of our CSG. We lower altitude a bit to get a better view at them Nothing seems to happen for a few minutes, before...

"Hey, aren't they scrambling for their AA guns?" asks Carlos over the radio.
Indeed, down below, even though I can't see it clearly, there seems to be quite the activity on the decks.

"Seems like it. Better be ready to..." I reply, before spotting many detonations from the ships guns, followed by tracer rounds, and flak explosions starting to happen below us.

"Shit! Break Break!" I shout, before throttling the engine to the maximum, engaging the afterburner. As we escape to the South, I call the Falcoye.

"Watcher, Hammer 1-1, we've been engaged by AA-fire! No damage thanks to our altitude. We have escaped to the south. We intend to launch one missile as a warning."

"Hammer 1-1, Watcher, you have the green light to engage with one missile. Once you're done, get back to circling at a safe altitude, and assess the damage."

"Wilco." I reply.
"Hammer 1-2, you're with me. Lock on the laser, I'll be the one shooting." I order my wingman.

"Hammer 1-2 wilco, give them hell Walrik." he replies, as we turn around, and get a bearing to get back at the fleet.
When we see them again, I arm my Drakkar, while on his side, Carlos activates his laser pod.
Soon, the laser locks on one of the Shiratsuyu destroyers, and...

"Missile away!" I shout, as I press on my joystick trigger.
With a small noise, the missile detaches from my plane, before its engine turns on and it flies away at hypersonic speeds towards the Japanese fleet. And barely a few seconds later...

The missile impacts on the destroyer's starboard side, before a huge explosion engulfs the entire ship. The cloud that rises does not allow to see precisely what is the damage, but the ship is surely lost already.

"Watcher, Hammer 1-1, good kill. Huge explosion reported, I may have hit the ammunition storage."

"Hammer 1-1, Watcher, we spotted it visually as well. Continue circling away from this fleet, we have a message inbound from the Strike Group."

As we start circling again, this time away from the fleet, we hear the following message, broadcasted on every frequency in Japanese like before.

"Unidentified fleet, IAS Ebon Atoll here. That was not a nice move what you did in answer to our planes.
Now, consider this our first, and only warning. Try to attack us again and we'll wipe not only you, but your entire country off the map. What sunk one of your destroyers is but a mere fraction of our military power.
So, we'll ask again, for the last time: identify yourselves. And by the way, tell us the date and your coordinates. We're pretty new around here.
"

Hearing this, Carlos and me can't help but laugh a bit. We just kicked their asses, threatened the, but we still ask them for the time.

Keisaer Adrean Blachkor

While we're preparing the last of our gear to deploy, Anna and me are made aware that hostile contact has been established with the U-boote and Japanese fleet, but that our forces have fired back, and have dealt some damage already. I'm happy, deep down, to know that we were not the first to fire.

After receiving the message from Joseon, we take some time to reply

From: Keisaer Adrean Blachkor and Keisaerina Anna Blachkor
To: Government of the Great Kingdom of Joseon
Subject: War.
Encryption: Maximum.

Prime Minister, Ministers,

thank you for your swift response. We'd like to wish good luck and godspeed to your naval forces fighting off the enemy fleet off Jeju Island, and we hope that none of your brave sailors will die in the fight.

On our side, we've been made aware that in the east, the U-boote fired two torpedoes at our Carrier Strike Group, which didn't struck anything thanks to torpedo decoys. One of our submarines fired a torpedo in answer, and damaged the U-boote enough to force it to surface. They are about to be boarded by a party of GULs, our Navy Special forces, as we speak.
In the west, the Japanese ships have engaged our air patrol circling them with AA fire, but our planes flying at an altitude too high for the flak didn't suffer any damage.
They fired an anti-ship missile in retaliation, which may have sunk a destroyer already. We have issued again a warning message, and are waiting on an answer.

Now, of course, we'll arrange that real-time contact is established between our respective military leadership. Our Secretary of Defense Patrick Barrera is currently working on mobilizing the aforementioned troops, but feel free to send him a message, and ask him what you want exactly.

Also, we need to tell you all a bit of a secret: aside from our jobs as monarchs, we are trained as Tier One SF operators in the Imperial Guard, our branch being known as Bodarks.
And you can be sure of one thing, it's that we are going to join this fight, and get our pound of flesh, however we can.
Our First Secretary William Raven will be the one to communicate with you from now on, but he will relay all messages to us, and we will be sure to answer in due time.
We won't lie, a small part of us is giddy to join the fight.

May Ymir and all the Stars watch over your country, and your soldiers.

Signed,
Keisaer Adrean Blachkor
Keisaerina Anna Blachkor

PS: a small request we'd like to ask: can you make the Japanese prisoners you made listen to some modern J-pop, and tell us what are their reactions? It's a bit childish, we know, but since they're from a possible past, we wonder how they will react to what could be their possible future.

GRESK Saulsdorf

28 Einmoss 0224

4:71:00 Euhr

"We are HMAS Hobart, Royal Australian Navy. We are going to inspect your ship for a while, so please cooperate."

From the Greilish perspective, they heard: "Wy ar Ezh-Em-AA-Es Hobart, Roi-yal Austraiylian Naffey. Wy ar goeing to inspect yeur zhip for a weil, soh puleis cooaperaat."

For the Greilish sailors aboard the three sloops, something felt incredibly alien but strangely familiar. Sounds like old Greilish, but at the same time, it wasn't. Where have they heard this tongue before?

Even after reeling their sails and roping together, flotilla formation established, every man and woman aboard brewed internally, the outlandish Germanic-sounding tongue tantalising their metaphorical gears. The combined 90 Greilish sailors looked on at the 171m Austrailische Sfeimastskip, their Greilish murmuring and mumbling within earshot of the Australian boarders. Their dark blue jumpsuits and sailor caps provided clear uniformity and identification for the boarders to see, the brim of their caps clearly written in silver text, either of the three names:
  • GRESK Saulsdorf
  • GRESK Westwartsdorf
  • GRESK Ryansdorf
With collective curiosity, aboard the Saulsdorf, the closest ship to the HMAS Hobart, the Greilish sailors peered upon their counterparts, noting the white sailor cap and blackish sailor uniforms, including the brass text on their caps, which read: H.M.A.S. HOBART.

However, it took a few long awkward moments until one Greilish sailor, a 22-year-old brown-haired Caucasian boy, asked to one of the armed Australian sailors. "Um, pardon me, cannen unterstanden eus?"

It was an incredibly risky move, not because of the language barrier, but different ranks. He knew it was not his place to speak so nonchalantly; however, it was not in the Greilish psyche to standby and wait. Instead, he either acts or leaps into the action, thereby die trying or save his crew.

If he had to guess, he hoped the languages could be intelligible some way...

GRESK Van Ruller

The sight of two three-masted steel hulled schooners brought curiosity among Mexican onlookers and tourists alike, the entirety of Baja soon alerted of their presence. Thankfully, they were neither German nor Japanese; however, the unusual tricolour fluttering among the ships made everyone suspicious. This suspicion was further aggravated by some onlookers observing the ships with their binoculars, the Greilish sailors themselves also looking back at them with their binoculars too!

GRESK Van Ruller and GRESK Blaakmayer were definitely in sight of land at last, but they knew something was amiss when they saw the congregation of confused or suspicious observers on the beaches. For the Greilish, there was no doubt somebody would already be notifying their respective coast guards to the area; however, using their radios to listen for any conversational chatter, it didn't seem they would be coming very soon. Nonetheless, confusion loomed upon the Greilish sailors, the sound of an indecipherable language and a strangely familiar language chattering over the radiowaves.

Why is one side speaking gibberish whereas the other is speaking...Old Greilish?

GRESK Lambert Hall

The GRESK Lambert Hall and GRESK Lord Matt Eestwartlington were finally escorted to port at Lima, the capital city of Peru; however, the Greilish still had no idea of this information, never mind their whereabouts. In the meantime, the Greilish proceeded with docking despite not knowing a single word of this undecipherable gibberish, both on the radios or soon to be megaphones. Only when the two ships came to port did Peruvian Policia and military personnel began to arrive, greeting them with curiosity and suspicion.

The names on the bows of each ship screamed German to the Peruvians, but at the same time, there was no country in the world that had the naval prefix, GRESK. The Greilish had nothing to hide or fear, even as the Peruvians soon discovered they couldn't understand each other, never mind realising they were dealing with disciplined and experienced sailors. There was something not right with these 'False Germans', especially with the empty holds, the tricolours, and female sailors amid the crew.

From both perspectives, who were these people?

The southern sea of Jeju Island
January 25th, 2024

Lieutenant Inoue Ichirō still couldn't believe his situation. The powerful battleship, Kongo, was now engulfed in flames. Not only Kongo, but all the remaining ships of the fleet were. The only ship that was not engulfed in flames was the cruiser IJN Mikuma. IJN Mikuma had already broken into two and sank into the sea.

The attack took place quickly. There were no enemy aircraft or battleships. There were only unpleasant sounds and explosions that cut through the air. That was all, but a single attack drove the fleet to the brink of annihilation. Inoue Ichirō suspected an enemy torpedo attack, but there were no traces of torpedoes in the sea, and a single torpedo attack could not destroy the fleet like this.

At that moment, a massive explosion occurred in the center of the battleship Kongo. Moments later, Inoue Ichirō could feel the ship slowly sinking.

"Lieutenant! The ship is sinking! You must escape quickly!"

A soldier shouted to Inoue Ichirō and struggled to get the lifeboat off the ship. Inoue Ichirō, who was staring blankly at the sea, came to his senses and helped the soldier float the lifeboat.

There were only 5 people on the lifeboat, including Inoue Ichirō. Although there were a few lifeboats nearby, there were not many.

They tried to keep the lifeboat away from the sinking battleship with all their might. Because there was a risk of being swept away together if the ship was next to it when it sank. They were able to keep the boat away from the battleship after a few minutes of struggle.

At that moment, another explosion occurred on the battleship Kongo. From then on, Kongo quickly began to sink and soon disappeared under the water.

The Inoue Ichirō and the soldiers couldn't say anything as they looked at the location of the sunken warship. All of this happened in less than half an hour.

"The enemy fleet has been wiped out."

Colonel Sung Yi Seul nodded at the operations officer's words. The battle was over and there was no damage to our troops. This was a great achievement.

Colonel Sung Yi Seul
"Send one destroyer to the scene to rescue the survivors. Treat them as prisoners of war, but do not abuse them."

Seeing a destroyer leaving the fleet and heading toward the sunken enemy fleet, Sung Yi Seul tried to answer some of the questions left in her mind. Who are they?

The Atlantic Ocean, Waters north of the Canarias
December 21st, 1941

Naturally, HMS Blankney's crew had no idea where the Free Lands of the Selkie were or who Meridonian was. But right now, it was not likely that they would harm Convoy HG 76. It was a relief. Because the soldiers didn't want to fight in this bad weather.

"We are HMS Blankney of the Royal Navy. Identify your exact identity."

The HMS Blankney's captain examined the ships closely. The unknown ships were not large but had a completely different appearance from ordinary merchant ships and warships. They were not like German warships, but also they were not British warships.

The captain became confused when he read a message from a ship called the Meridon Warship Radiant through a lamp signal. What does Meridon mean? Is it a secret code for the Allies, or are the Axis Powers trying to confuse him?

The captain ordered the soldiers to send a message to Radiant.

Code: Select all
This is HMS Blankney, Royal Navy. Please tell us your affiliation.

When they tried to communicate with unknown ships, another problem emerged. One of Sonar soldiers suddenly shouted out loud.

"We've detected an object believed to be a U-boat nearby! Four o'clock!"

At that, the destroyer's soldiers reacted quickly. They headed to the depth charge launcher and radioed the other warships as well. U-boats appeared, and they had to act to protect the merchant ships.

Merchant ships were moving in droves, and they were under the protection of warships, but U-boats tended to enjoy clever surprise attacks. They had to act quickly to prevent merchant ships from sinking.

U-107 launched the attack while the destroyers' eyes were focused on the two ships that emerged from the ring. U-107 moved to place merchant ships within the torpedo range, and five other submarines, including U-67, also moved to their respective positions.

There were a total of 32 merchant ships. On a sunny day, an escort carrier would be a big threat, but now it's weather where fighters can't do their job. So the submarines felt free to aim at the merchant ships.

Each submarine moved to keep merchant ships within the torpedo range. As the distance slowly approached, the merchant ships were more in danger.

U-108 fixed its eyes on a more valuable target. It's the HMS Audacity, the escort carrier.

Lake Michigan
December 21st, 1941

Major Harry Madison did not know what the Centros River was. It was the first name he had heard of, so he had to spend some time looking back on his memories. In the meantime, the unidentified ship got too close to Chicago.

Harry Madison noticed that the unidentified ship was close to Chicago and sent the PBY Catalina flying closer to the ship. He started the warning broadcast after ordering his co-pilot to be ready to pull the trigger on the 12.7mm machine guns. This time, he sounded more determined than before, and the PBY Catalina was perfectly positioned to fire the machine gun.

"We are the United States Navy. You are an unidentified ship, and you are getting too close to Chicago. Stop the engine immediately, or we will fire."

Harry Madison tried to radio the base to see how close the National Guard came. But soon he realized he didn't have to.

As soon as they arrived in Chicago, a battalion of the Wisconsin National Guard and the Federal Army rented ships from the U.S. Naval Base in Lake Michigan. They first tried to inspect the ring in the middle of the lake, but at the urgent request of PBY Catalina, they headed to an unidentified ship to inspect it. The ship was so close that it could be seen from the port on the base, but U.S. Navy sailors at the base informed National Guard soldiers that the ship was unlike any other U.S. Navy ship.

National Guard soldiers and federal soldiers approached the unidentified ship in training vessels, hoping that the ship would be merely an unusual yacht. They broadcast warnings at the same time as they aimed their guns at the ship.

"We are the Wisconsin National Guard and the United States Army. There will be a brief inspection, so please cooperate."

Guam
December 21st, 1941

The number of Japanese troops in Guam was similar to the number of American troops before they captured Guam. The Japanese command was focused on attacking Southeast Asia and other parts of the Pacific, and Japan's policy on Guam was to appease the local population and turn them into Japanese territory.

So when unidentified aircraft showed up over Guam, Japanese soldiers on the island prepared to fight, blaming the command for not sending enough defensive forces to Guam. This is because they did not expect the U.S. military to strike back so quickly.

The soldiers ran to the few anti-aircraft guns grabbed the trigger and aimed at the aircraft. Strangely, the aircraft looked unusual and were overly fast, but the soldiers didn't hesitate to pull the trigger at the officer's command. But the officer in charge of them thought that the shells were hard to hit because of the aircraft's high speed.

Instead, he tried to contact his superiors. He radioed unidentified aircraft appeared in Guam and that he needed air support.

The U.S. attack on Guam has begun. Prepare for attack by enemy fleets.

Upon receiving the radio, IJN Takao and escort ships quickly transitioned into battle stations and began preparing for a possible U.S. attack on the sea. The soldiers rushed to their respective positions, and the anti-aircraft soldiers monitored if U.S. bombers appeared in the sky.

IJN Takao took off all four of its Floatplanes and tried to find an enemy fleet. If enemy aircraft attacked Guam, there must be an enemy aircraft carrier or fleet nearby.

Spanish State

Francisco Franco, who read the telegram, frowned and crumpled it and threw it. Five years after he overthrew the Popular Front and seized power and became Caudillo, fascism is now engulfing all of Europe. In that situation, intruders appeared in Barcelona.

According to the telegram, the intruders are spreading 'weird ideologies.' If this is linked to the ring on the beach in Catalonia, this could be the Allied development of new weapons and provoking Spain.

Franco's Spain had been trying to stay neutral and not provoke the Allies. But things were changing from moment to moment. The United States is now at war as an Allied force, and Spain can be engulfed in wars.

Franco had to show off his leadership by suppressing Catalonia's 'political riots.' He contacted the chief of staff and ordered the call-up of troops.

"Send two infantry divisions, 30 tanks, and one Air Force squadron to quell the riots in Catalonia."

Berlin
December 21st, 1941

German Army Chief Walther von Brauchitsch was briefed on a series of shocking events on the Eastern Front. Not long after some of the troops in the rear found the huge ring and entered it, Wehrmacht's forces were defeated by unidentified adversaries throughout the Eastern Front, including Ukraine, and some of the Ju 87 Stuka bomber squadrons that were on their way to bomb Moscow suddenly disappeared.

This came as all the more shocking to Brauchitsch because it happened shortly after Germany suffered a bitter defeat in Moscow. Furthermore, having a hostile force at the back of the main forces could be very dangerous.

According to very few collaborators and troops left at the scene, unidentified enemies captured cities and towns, insulted Nazi propaganda, or arrested SS officers. But on the other hand, they acted sharing food with the villagers.

And they call themselves Sky Reaver, which Brauchitsch had never heard of a country or group called Sky Reaver. Who are they? They are a new type of Partisan? Or they are a new special force in the Soviet army?

Since it was unlikely that Hitler would agree to turn a large main force backward, Brauchitsch decided to use only 10 divisions to retake the towns and villages where the incident took place and restore security in the rear. He wasn't sure if this would be enough, but he couldn't help it.

Two armored divisions and eight infantry divisions headed where the 'Sky Reavers' appeared. Just in case, the Air Force took off 48 Bf109 fighter jets and 96 Ju 87 Stuka bombers.

Brest latitude
December 21st, 1941

The captain of U-72 cursed this incident, which would be his fatal career. His submarine was not only torpedoed but now all the sailors and his submarine had to be taken prisoner by the enemy. In addition, the enemy knew about Enigma. The enemy was likely to retaliate significantly if the sailors destroyed Enigma.

So instead of destroying Enigma, the captain decided to quietly accept his defeat. He decided to rise to the deck of the U-boat, which had surfaced, and greet his enemies.

The captain, who went up on deck, suspected what he was seeing. This was because the aircraft overhead were not only the first he had seen, but they were unlike any aircraft he had ever known. It was hard to believe, but the aircraft had come to a standstill in the air.

He sighed at the fate of his country. The Americans must have built the new high-performance aircraft that could standstill in the air. It will be an uphill battle for Germany and Japan, who have to fight these opponents.

When the rope came down from the aircraft and the soldiers came down, the captain had no choice but to sigh again. The soldiers looked like robots, not humans. With all kinds of mechanical devices attached to guns and helmets, they looked much stronger than the SS soldiers.

The captain put his hands above his head and said.

"I will surrender, and I don't know how you have found out, but Enigma is fine."

The Coral Sea
December 21st, 1941

The captain of the battleship Fuso was prudent but not a coward. He was a general with the spirit of a samurai, so he concluded when unidentified high-speed aircraft sank the destroyer in a single attack.

"Report this to headquarters, and find an enemy fleet! One way or another, we must shoot down that aircraft, and if we find an enemy fleet, we must keep enemies within the range of the main guns!"

At the captain's command, the soldiers grabbed the trigger again. All 36 of Fuso's anti-aircraft guns fired off, and other ships, including the heavy cruiser Aoba, also fired anti-air guns. Smoke from the anti-aircraft shells filled the sky again, and loud gunfire filled the soldiers' ears.

At the same time, the communications officers rushed to send telegrams to Tokyo and other Japanese ships in the Pacific.

Urgent

We encountered unidentified aircraft in the Coral Sea
One destroyer sank
Apparently there is an enemy fleet nearby

Japan's mobile fleet, including the light aircraft carrier ‘Ryūjō’, was a reconnaissance unit consisting of the cruiser Furutaka and five destroyers. They were sailing near the Coral Sea and on a mission to find any nearby U.S. or Australian fleets.

So they were the most ideally-positioned fleet to help Fuso's fleet. When the telegram arrived, the fleet's commander took off all 16 B6N Tenzan torpedo bombers and 15 A6M Zero fighters from the carrier. They were divided into two squadrons and tasked to find an enemy fleet and began searching the perimeter based on where Fuso's fleet was attacked.

Waters near the southern island of New Zealand

HMAS Hobart's soldiers could not quite understand the Greilish sailor. Although it only sounded like "Can you understand us?" it was not clear if it was the correct interpretation.

"I don't understand you. Can you speak English?"

Other soldiers scrutinized the ship while the soldiers continued their tough conversations with the Greilish sailors. Some items they had never seen before, and most of all, there were strange phrases written on the sailors' caps.

‘GRESK Saulsdorf’
‘GRESK Westwartsdorf’
‘GRESK Ryansdorf’

The soldiers thought that they meant the names of ships, but……… What does GRESK mean? As far as they know, there has never been a ship in the world with this name.

As the soldiers spent longer searching the ships, the captain of HMAS Hobart began to get nervous. Dangering the soldiers, not knowing whether they were Japanese spies or not, was not what he wanted. After much thought, he decided to let Canberra know.

Three vessels believed to be Japanese spies were discovered in waters off New Zealand's South Island, and are currently inspecting them.

The inspection is still underway. If possible, please support us just in case.

Mexico
December 21st, 1941

The Mexican navy was quick to react against the two unidentified ships that appeared on the coast. The two ships that appeared on the coast were most likely Japanese or German scouts, as Mexico had severed ties with the Axis Powers and was cooperating with the United States after the Pearl Harbor attack.

The Mexican Navy sent two gunboats to inspect the two unidentified ships. The two gunboats left the port right away, and they approached the two ships with their horns honking.

"We are the Mexican Navy! Your vessel is subject to inspection, so please cooperate!"

Lima, Peru
December 21st, 1941

Word of the two unidentified ships that appeared in Peru's port of Lima quickly spread throughout Lima. More and more people headed to the port to see the ships. And soon, journalists from the media began to flock to the port, smelling the scoop. They headed toward the port with cameras and notebooks. Perhaps they can easily talk to the sailors on the two ships using their connections to the military and police.

Peruvian police and soldiers tried hard to understand the situation, but they couldn't understand what the sailors were saying. But they couldn't let the situation go, so the Peruvian government sent three German-speaking officers and five soldiers to the port. Hoping that they could find an answer, the Peruvian government simultaneously tried to contact the German embassy. But their answer was clear. they didn't send any new ships to Lima.

Now Peru was a neutral country. Although it is not likely that Germany sent spy ships to Peru, the possibility could not be completely ruled out. While the Peruvian government watched the situation at the port nervously, more people flocked to the port.

Jinhae, The Great Kingdom of Joseon
January 25th, 2024

Investigators of the Naval Military Police Headquarters in Jinhae have started a new attempt. They played music that was ranked on modern Japanese music charts to Japanese prisoners of war and showed them pictures of modern Japan. The reaction of the prisoners varied, with some having a sour reaction and others showing curiosity.

Some of the prisoners sang along to the music and hummed it. Then investigators provided some more pictures. They showed Tokyo in ruins right after the Pacific War.

Investigators showed the images and warned that if the prisoners cooperate, their Japan will be in modern Japan's photographs, and if they don't, Japan will be in ashes. And then some prisoners start telling the truth. And the content is pretty shocking.

The prisoners were actually Japanese during World War II. For some reason, the Korean Peninsula had been a Japanese colony since 1910, and Japan was at war with China after invading Manchuria, not southern China. The Japanese then attacked Hawaii, the United States, and now the war was all over the Pacific Ocean.

Investigators immediately reported this to the Navy headquarters and the Ministry of Defense. And the Ministry of Defense reported to the prime minister's office. But before the Joseon government could discuss anything, another incident happened.

The message was clear. The battleship Kongo and its escort fleet into the ring did not return, and the fleets that approached the ring all encountered hostile aircraft or ships in common. The meaning of this was clear. The rings are secret weapons of the Allies.

Now the Japanese command focused on one ring that they knew best. It was the ring in Seoul. Beyond the ring was a strange world, but there were unknown soldiers. The Japanese command decided to regard them as hostile forces, and before they attacked Japan first, Japan decided to attack them.

The Japanese command sent 15 divisions of the Kwantung Army to the Korean Peninsula while ordering a preemptive strike on soldiers from beyond the ring.

An attack is the best defense. If they repel the forces beyond the ring and gather information, Japan may have a decisive clue about the ring.

Seoul, the Korean peninsula(Under Japanese occupation)
December 23rd, 1941

Japanese soldiers in Seoul started to move with clear orders. They installed machine guns in the buildings where they could see the rings, and several Type 94 37 mm anti-tank guns were also prepared. The soldiers were given extra ammunition and prepared to fight.

The soldiers from beyond the ring had not made much movement yet. The Japanese army waited for an officer's order after getting ready to fight quickly.

The Japanese officer waited for the Governor-General's final order. When the Governor-General finally gave the order through radio, the officer shouted.

"Fire!"

When an officer gave the order, Type 94 37 mm anti-tank guns fired fire and soldiers fired rifles as well. Machine guns hidden in the building began to open fire, too.

Seoul, The Great Kingdom of Joseon
January 25th, 2024

As soldiers from beyond the ring began to open fire, the Joseon military quickly began to respond according to the fighting guidelines. The enemy's anti-tank fire did not cause any damage to the K1A2 tanks, but two soldiers were injured by enemy fire and carried away.

The prime minister had ordered the soldiers to launch a counterattack in case of emergency. Under these circumstances, the Joseon soldiers had no reason to hesitate.

Fourteen K1A2 tanks fired 120 mm main guns in unison, and soldiers also began firing rifles and machine guns. The K-6 12.7 mm machine gun, mounted on the K151 tactical vehicle, also fired.

"Enemies beyond the ring have launched a pre-emptive strike. At the moment, we are hitting back at our enemies. We need additional support."

The commander at the scene radioed the Capital Defense Command to report the situation. The news spread quickly, and now the prime minister's office knows the news.

Civilian Research Vessel Airmed, unknown location.
Own Reference Date: 23rd of January 2024, unknown local reference date.

We had sonar, both installed and a towed array.
The latter was not deployed, but the former was... more suited for underwater cartography. We were quite silent as it was, our hydrographic work made that necessary, and our equipment was quite sensitive, but simply not designed for ASW or submarine detection... but when the destroyer began to radio desperately, I looked around.
"Anyone any ideas?"
"Submarines? That is a convoy and those are warships, including a baby carrier.", Doctor Oibrí proposed.
"Could also be that they're preparing to board us.", Helm proposed.
I nodded, it made sense. "Turn on the multibeam."
Multibeam Echosounders were advanced sonars for underwater mapping: They send out a fan of sound, straight down, which reflected on the bottom and told us, what it looked like down there. Not an ASW-sonar, but better then nothing...
"And deploy the towed array. It might not have a torpedo alert, but I hope, that we can still hear a fish in the water.", the Doctor added and looked to me. I nodded. "In the meantime, might I take over comms?"
I nodded again, handing the brunette the receiver.
"Blankney, this is Doctor Oibrí, aboard the Airmed, we stated our name and country of origin, but admittedly, we are new around here.", I spoke into the radio, "Might I bother you to tell me, where we are?"
That we traveled back in time did not occur to any of us.

Captain Celina Reathaí of the Tribe of Westmeath.
SDFS Rhiannon, by the Gate.
Own Reference Date: 23rd of January 2024

5th Patrol Gunboats had given us eight of their Stalcaire-class Unmanned Surface Vessel, basically heavily armed swimming drones, for this mission. Together with my own frigate, nothing would come through undetected.
And with more ships on their way, the opposition to anyone coming through would only grow stronger.
Airmed and Radiant were gone for about half an hour now, but without them reporting back, people were getting antsy.
Myself included.
Unfortunately, the Rhiannon-II-class Frigates, like my own ship, were not equipped with a drone control room, so we had to make do... with my ready room.
Rhi, one of my officers (let's leave the metaphysical bullshit surrounding her aside), looked up and nodded. "Captain."
"Rhi."
None of the eight technicians, none of them above Lieutenant Commander, looked up, but they all grumbled some greeting.
"How does it look?"
"No changes. The gate is keeping at about the same size, nothing is coming through, we haven't received anything from our two ships yet." Rhi shrugged. "So far, so properly mysterious."
"More ships will arrive soon. 1 CG from Meridon is nearby, in case of need, I am sure, that they'd be willing to change heading and Nead Foiche with her battlegroup will be here in a few hours as well.", I told her, then put a hand onto her shoulder, "Then, after we spoke with Commodore Coinnigh and Admiral Curadh, we can charge in. Or we wait what our ships on the other side say. Whatever happens first."
"I hate waiting."
"Me, too.", one of the techs grumbled, then leaned back, looking at us. The man was not exactly a poster child for the Navy, a bit pudgy and with glasses and generally a bit nerdy, but then again, we needed that kind of person these days. "But while we do, don't you have some hot, busty Ensigns aboard, who could get us a cuppa?"
A few more voices spoke out in agreement.
"Training cruise is Ladra's task this year.", I told them in no uncertain terms, "But I can see, if I can't find a fresh-faced Lieutenant or something. Bust size optional."
I looked to Rhi and rolled my eyes.
The other woman snorted in bemusement.
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

Lake Michigan
December 21, 1941

The radio message from the Catalina was responded to quickly by the captain of IRBS Chicago.

Roger that, stopping engine.

Nevertheless the ship continued to drift towards the city. Now the crew were close enough to see the Outer Drive Bridge and Navy Pier, now there was no doubt IRBS Chicago was sitting right in front of the city it was named after. IRBS Chicago like almost all Boldonian ships named after a place had a namesake flag, the flag of whatever the ship was named after that flew on the same mast underneath the Boldonian flag for quick identification as well as morale and branding for the IRBNF. The normal protocol was to raise the namesake flag above the Boldonian flag if the ship was actually at its namesake. However this would necessitate lowering both the Boldonian and Chicago flag temporarily and re-raising them, and with the national guard closing in they didn't want to inadvertently anger them so they kept the flags up, nevertheless the city flag of Chicago flew right underneath the flag of Boldonia for the Americans to see.

The events currently happening were confusing, but with guns being pointed at them and with IRBS Chicago apparently being on American soil the captain composed himself and tried to remain calm. He told his crew to stow away their weapons, those that had firearms on them stowed them away and came back outside with their hands up and their empty holsters clearly displayed. The captain yelled back to the military personnel surrounding the ship.

"I am Captain Michael Carter of IRBS Chicago, a Cyclone-Class Patrol Boat of the Independent Republic of Boldonia Naval Forces. The Independent Republic of Boldonia is allied with the United States of America, and we seek not to harm or act against your country in any way, in fact several agreements with the United States of America dictate that if the United States of America is attacked Boldonia is to assist. There is a long and confusing story behind our appearance here, but that story will come at another time. For now, we invite you aboard to conduct your inspection and to show that we mean neither you nor your nation any harm."

Aboard IRBS Chicago, aside from the normal equipment that you would find aboard a Cyclone-Class Patrol Boat which would no doubt seem futuristic to those conducting the inspection, several photos and maps could be found strewn about the ship. Many of the cabins had photos of 21st century Chicago hanging on the wall, with the Willis/Sears Tower being prominently shown in most. As well in the maps they saw three islands could be seen to the east of Guam that they would have never seen before. The smallest island was located to the far north of the other two, around the same latitude as Taipei, the Boldonians would know this island as "Brasilistan." The other two islands were located next to each other separated by a channel, one larger and one smaller, these two would be known by the Boldonians as "Boldonia" and "Eastisle" respectively. Several references to the United States could be found throughout the ship as well, from on appliances, to navigation equipment, to manuals, to even the weaponry. However there was one thing that was off, the air conditioning aboard IRBS Chicago had Mitsubishi clearly labeled on them. Noticing this and the soldier's World War II attire, Captain Carter quickly interjected to explain the presence of Japanese air conditioning on a ship claiming to be friendly to America.

"Wait wait wait, I can explain! You see, I do not know what year you are in right now but last we knew it was 2024. It's quite clear some time difference has occurred, there isn't that large skyscraper that is on the photo on the wall and you all are still using M1 Garands. Look can you keep a secret... you win the war, okay but just keep it a secret, preferably forget it all together. By 2024 Japan, as well as Germany and Italy for that matter, are democracies that are integral allies of the United States. Look, detain us, arrest us, do whatever you need to do. I truly mean it, we mean no harm.

This ship was built in an American shipyard by the Americans for us, formerly Americans ourselves, to use in order to defend the common interests our nations share. Every weapon you can find aboard this ship was designed in the United States. In fact our handguns are based off of an American design from 1911, the same handgun you have in your holster. The submachine guns our ship was issued are copies from an American designed submachine gun from 1942, thr M3 Grease Gun, copied as the BA 45/80. Even the heavy machine guns mounted on the ship are American, in fact they aren't even copies we still use the M2 Browning. If you need any more proof we do not mean you any harm, I could go on and on."

Guam
December 21, 1941

"Guam is shooting at us! Confirmed, I repeat confirmed Imperial Japanese Navy and Imperial Japanese Army."

With confirmation that Guam was not under US control the F/A-18s flying over Guam returned to IRBS Hawaii and more flights of F/A-18s were prepared and took off. With the storm and the appearance of the IJN, the crew had finally put two and two together, they had somehow got back in time as though they were in the movie Final Countdown. The E-2D picked up several floatplanes taking off from IJN Takao and the four F/A-18s already in the air waited for permission to fire.

"This is the Admiral to all units, all Imperial Japanese Navy forces are considered hostile you are clear to fire."

The EA-18G Growler began to jam the radar aboard IJN Takao through narrow band jamming as the four F/A-18s picked a floatplane, and prepared to fire at them. But there was a problem, the floatplanes were too small, too slow, and too low to be strongly picked up by radar. The pilots tired desperately to get their radar to lock onto the target but they were having too much issue trying to get a strong signature. They would have to get in close and hope for either an infrared lock or enough of a radar lock for their lead indicators to kick in and use their guns. Getting that close would require a coordinated attack on the Japanese ships, so they waited for the rest of the fighters to get in position.

8 more F/A-18s took off from IRBS Hawaii and got in position to fire on the Japanese fleet. Since the AGM-84 Harpoons they were using were sea-skimming they got low, but still well out of the range of the Japanese fleet. Luckily unlike with the aircraft, these ships managed to get a lock on the fleet. Once everyone was in position the order was given.

"Fire on all targets!"

The F/A-18s using the general location of the floatplanes provided by the E-2Ds flew towards the floatplanes and once they had them in view their radars begun to kick in. However by the point they finaly got radar lock they were at an awkward range, too short to fire a radar missile but to far to use their guns. Since IR missiles had trouble locking onto the low heat signature they waited to get in range. With their immense speed they were quickly within the necessary range to use their M61 Vulcan cannons and as soon as the marker showed up on their heads up display they unleashed a hail of 20mm bullets towards their target.

Simultaneously the other group of fighters shot their missiles at their targets. For now one missile each was fired at the destroyers, two at the light cruiser, and three at IJN Takao. She may only be a heavy cruiser, not a battleship, but the Boldonians were taking no chances.

As the fighters all fired the fleet began to launch more aircraft. Another E-2D was sent up to help coordinate the additional aircraft, then 8 more F/A-18s loaded with laser guided missiles and air-to-ground bombs took off and flew towards Guam. The jig was up, the force at Guam knew there was a hostile fleet in the area, and the Boldonians would be damned if they let the Japanese fire the first shots. These fighters had the task of scouting out and eliminating anti-aircraft emplacements on the island from high altitude, as well as bombing any docked ships.
