Christianity Census

Postby True Heaven » Sat Dec 02, 2023 2:50 pm

I plan on releasing a comprehensive factbook about my "nation" (more of a realm) and I am curious on knowing the faith of your people inside your nations. Excluding hopefully puppets, I want to see people responding to this poll with intention to later tabulate the results within my factbook release. My intent is to see as many results possible, then add up all the numbers and offer a nice chart of believers in Christ. The results will be published soon after I consider enough votes have been cast.

To help me you only have to vote above (if applicable to you) and post in the comment section what you voted specifically. (Bonus points if you break down the Christian denominations in your own nation or send me a factbook entry of your nation)

Thanks :)

We are Roman Catholics, we have a straight relationship with the Papacy in Rome. We also hold the Patriarchates of Toledo and Carthage, who are in communion with Rome.

Ours is a bit akin to the Southern/Black Baptist Churches with some notable pockets of Presbyterian, Lutheran, and a small bit of what at first glance look like Catholics, however this group can't really claim that title as they don't believe the Priest is a representative of God, as well as not adhering to the authority of Rome, they also don't baptize Babies.

Most Lancovians are irreligious, but there is a significant population of Christians in Lancov and the vast majority are Eastern Orthodox. The Lancovian Orthodox Church is an autocephalous church in the Eastern Orthodox communion headed by the Patriarch of Ramonosd, currently His Beatitude MATTIMEO II.

Other denominations exist as well but they are very small. In fact, there are actually more Muslims in Lancov than Heterodox Christians. Most Heterodox Christians are Catholics and use an Eastern Rite very similar to the one used by the Lancovian Orthodox Church.

Protestant churches are mainly found in very cosmopolitan cities and primarily exist to serve expats. Most are only loosely affiliated with other churches.

(OOC: I answered "Eastern Orthodox" in the poll even though other denominations exist in Lancov, because these denominations all together still make up less than 5% of the total Christians in Lancov.)

Please note that religious demographic data is relatively unreliable, since Juansonia's census does not ask about religion.

Juansonia's population is mostly irreligious, but 21% of the population is some form of Christian. This is mostly Catholic, with only 7% of the total population as protestant and 1% as Orthodox.

Northern Seleucia was founded on Judeo-Christian values. 80% of the nation is Christian - mostly Protestant groups like Assemblies of God (Pentecostal) and the Southern Baptist Convention (Baptist), and 18% are Jewish (including Messianc Jews) out of a population of 478 million.

Our original inhabitants were introduced to Christianity by Rome.
200 years later: Where pope?
Maybe we can just have faith without him?
And that's why WE were the first Protestants!
Actually, we were more Orthodox, but still basically became Protestant by the 1100s.

The Holy and Pontifical State is officially Catholic, but not Roman Catholic. The Holy See of Lisbon formally announced its separation from Rome in 1970, but the ideological rift between the two churches had already been widening long before that.

Postby Tangatarehua » Sat Dec 02, 2023 9:53 pm

Christianity is practiced by less than 1% of the population of Tangatarehua, making it a less popular religion than Scientology.

Despite this, it has a significant and important history within the nation.

Christianity, along with Islam, was first introduced to Tangatarehua in the 18th century by foreign traders. In 1839, Te Ahunga Karakia became the country's first Christian Rangatira and in 1844 he persuaded Empress Korero a te Atua to make Christianity the nation's official religion, as part of a broad trend of 'westernisation' that was ongoing in the nation at the time.

The Empress reversed this decision in 1863, after learning of a Christian plot to remove her from the throne and restored the traditional beliefs of Tikanga Wairua (which further cemented her legitimacy, given the claim that she was descended from the god Rehua).

Her successor, Empress Kaupapa-a-ture declared Tangatarehua a secular state with freedom of religion in 1870, in an attempt to appease growing tensions between Christians and Maori Traditionalists. This lasted until 1887 when Christian radicals went on a rampage of destruction against shrines and other Tapu (sacred) sites to rid the nation of what they perceived as 'idolatry'. The Christians also favoured deposing the Empress and setting up a republic, based on Christian values.

This led to the Restoration War of 1889-1891, in which the Empress was forced to go into hiding and Christians (led by Te Ahunga Whananga) and Traditionalists (led by Te Rata Whakahoki) openly fought a civil war, with the latter victorious. Whananga was executed and the Empress returned to her throne.

A second civil war broke out between 1897 and 1901, known as the "Christian Wars" which saw harsh sectarian violence between Christians and non-Christians.

In 1917 laws were passed that disenfranchised Christians from voting, to which they responded in 1920 by burning down the Tapu Marae - hitherto one of Tangatarehua's most sacred sites.

In 1921 Rangatira Te Rata Whakakore officially banned Christianity and over the next 30 years Christians were systematically rounded up and either exiled or executed if they did not renounce their religion. It is estimated that one million people were killed during these pogroms, while at least 2 million were forced to flee to foreign nations.

The ban on Christianity was finally repealed in 1957, but by this point Christianity had been completely eradicated from Tangatarehua--hence why to this day, there are fewer Christians than there are Scientologists.

However, there is a large international diaspora of Rehuan Christians and in many countries there are still Rehuan churches that hold services in Maori. The teachings of these churches are generally considered protestant, having been influenced by German Lutherans.

The pogroms are considered a controversial period in Tangatarehua's history and so far no official apology has ever been issued. While a majority of people consider the mass killing and exile of so many people a stain on the nation's history, there is also a significant body of public opinion that it was 'necessary' and had Christianity been allowed to continue to grow, then Tangatarehua as a nation would have ceased to exist and likely become a colony of Europe or a failed state.

Although the first form of Christianity to reach Tsona was Catholicism, it was slow to take off. Protestantism took root fairly quickly, but had not managed to surpass Catholicism's head start and has plateaued. Given the number of new-age Christian sects also finding some modicum of membership, it's fair to say the small Christian minority is mixed.

For the record, approximately a third of the population identifies as Christian in some capacity.

Christianity is a majority religion in the CRA, but is very diverse in terms of communions and denominations.

Protestants, broadly speaking, constitute a majority at 59.4% percent of the Population (231.7 Million people), followed by Roman Catholics at 26.3% (102.6 Million People) % and Eastern Orthodox at 4.6% (17.9 Million People). The LDS (Mormon) Religion, which happens to invoke the name of Jesus Christ, is a further 2.2% of the Population (8.8 Million)

Protestants themselves are more diverse in denomination than most other nations, with almost every form thereof, from high church to low church, free will to predestinarian, episcopal to congregational, traditionalist, restorationist, reformist, etc being present in significant numbers somewhere in the country.

Christianity is the majority religion in Asucki. Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy are more or less the same size, each equaling nearly a third of the total population. Protestantism is closer to a fifth of the overall population and is found mainly in the form of Lutheranism and Anglicanism. ... id=1587557 has all religious statistics.
