Blood, Bullets and Diamonds overall Theme: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=bt3JWkh1KzQ

Dramatic overall summary: The Holy Empire of the Daeva has had a long history of warlords. From its ancient beginnings of tribes and clans to more modern day terrorists and militias, Warlords of all kinds have been a permanent feature of the country. Luckily for the Empire and the larger world, the biggest warlords of them all come from the House of Chakravarti, the famous and fabulously wealthy royal family of the Daeva. They unified the nation a long a time ago, and made it into the civilized and modern society it is today. However, there is one place where the concept of a warlord is still the accepted and expected form of government. The Desert of Ahriman, a large and perilous expanse of plains, sand, and mountains are traditionally lawless. And the modern day has only increased the killing. Tribes fight the remnants of terrorist movements. Corporations hire Mercs to protect the profitable Ahrimani Diamond industry. These red stones can only be found in the Desert of Ahriman and their unmatched beauty and rarity makes them one of the most sought after gemstones ever. They are often called ‘Blood Diamonds’, both due to their coloration and the ways many acquire them. And of course, the Royal Daevan Army often swoops in to purge the desert of its worst every month or so, to make a token effort of restoring order. In fact, the larger Empire actually tolerates the unrest in the region because it provide free training for their soldiers. The constant bush war in the desert is probably why the Daevans are experts at counter terrorism and desert warfare. The conflict is perpetual, and the desert draws many in. Will you leave with a briefcase full of diamonds? Or will the desert swallow you as it has so many others.

OOC Stuff: I won’t repeat the rules, they are in the OOC thread. Just kind of operate under the framework of what this is based off of (Sierra Leone, War on Terror, War on Drugs). This is a very morally dubious setting. Don’t go overboard cause that would be disturbing, but the Desert changed you. Especially when one must make the choice between the Blood Diamonds, or their morality. Welcome to the Desert of Ahriman. I hope your stay is profitable.

Ciftlik Village Pass, Desert of Ahriman, Holy Empire of the Daeva

The convoy of Humvees bounced and jostled across the dirt pathway. Calling it impassable would be an understatement. The young fighter clutched his rifle tightly. The convoys cargo made it a tempting target, if any opportunist knew about it. And the Desert of Ahriman was populated by two kinds of people. Opportunists and people too poor to leave. The young fighter fell into the latter category. The Humvee radio crackled.

Hellooo and welcome back to Radio Free Ahriman! I am your host the Radioman and I just wanted to take a minute to congratulate the Gatha tribe on its recent armed take over of the Solomon Chakravarti Blood Diamond Mine from the Free Daeva movement! Truly a stunning victory! I am sure the parents of the child soldiers they used understand. Alright, this one goes out to you! Tune in next time for the Desert of Ahriman Conflict Zones only radio station, Radio Free Ahriman! This is your host, the Radioman signing off!” cheerful pop music began playing through the Humvee speakers (text theme, btw) that began to put the young fighter at ease. Perhaps he would be able to help this region survive. And that’s when the explosions started.

The Humvee was thrown to one side in a ball of fire, its windows shattering and the box carrying its cargo spilling out of the vehicle. The young fighter was dazed and fearful, his training hadn’t prepared him for this. He crawled out of the burning vehicle, his rifle in hand. He looked for the hostiles, but he couldn’t see them in the sandy expanse. He head a crunch behind him, and turned just in time to see the black blade of a hatchet baring down at him…

“Command, this is Foxhole Team. We have intercepted the militant convoy.” Captain Kaplon of the Royal Daevan Army said casually into his radio, as he cleaned his black service hatchet on the robe of some terrorist or other. “Excellent, Foxhole. Any idea who they worked for?” The Captain looked at the burning wreckage, his squad silhouetted in it as they executed any remaining terrorists. “They weren’t us, sir.” The Captain responded finally.
“Good enough. Did you secure their cargo?” The Captain strode over to a small dented lockbox, its padlock smashed in the explosion. He planted one boot on it, and tipped it over. A flurry of small, perfect red stones spilled out into the sand, mixing into the blood of the slain militants. “Sir, cargo is secured.” The Captain said, smiling as he picked up one of the stones and held it to the light, its red surface reflecting on his face. He loved being the hero, it made things so much easier. “Sir! What do we do with the convoy!” One of his troops asked, slightly nervously. “Ah, who cares. Let the desert have them. We got what we came for.” The Captain says, hefting the box onto his squads vehicle. The local cinereous vultures were already swooping down upon the defeated convoy. Yup, he loved being the hero…

The first 5,000 IBMC soldiers arrived in the Daeva, supported by 1,000 fighters, helicopters, and other aircraft. 1,500 MBTs and IFVs are also sent.

The 3rd Desert Field Army soon began intervening in the desert battles. Growing up in the tropics, however, made them used to the heat, just not the dryness.

Still, the 3rdDFA's morale was strong.

The helicopters touched the ground as the landing craft landed on the beach. It was quiet, and their mission was simple. Protect the main port that Kiwi ships could repair on. It was a small force, totaling a bit more than 1,000 in total. The tanks landed on the beach, too. The force started trekking to the port, their destination. Then, a “Bark!” Filled the air. They soldiers chuckled, and a few said, “Be quiet, Millie. You don’t know what’s out here.” But the dog didn’t understand. One of the soldiers gave Millie a dog treat. He also gave the other two dogs some treats, too. “Here you go, guys..” the soldier said as he gave each dog a treat. They started to pile in the trucks that landed by transport ship, as well as the tanks crews hopping in their Katipō’s. All the troops drove to the port they were assigned, and set up defensive positions. Machine guns were set up, some shelters were also put up. Everyone started chatting and getting into positions as they finished setting up, and everyone started to eat their MRE’s. This is so peaceful. Why would it change?

The coalition was formed. It was a grand time, nations coming together to restore peace to a place affected by internal conflict. TGEC, Magna Helvetica, The Scottish Republic, The Spanish Federation, The Muscovite Republic and The Central European State all pooled their resources in order to form an expeditionary force, led by TGEC. The first troops to arrive would be the ones of the 3rd Mechanized Joint Brigade, totalling 3,000 men. 1,000 were Consortian, 700 Helvetian, 500 Spanish, 400 Central European, 300 Scottish and 100 Muscovite. In order to support them, the 3rd Strategic Airlift Wing, made of 10 McDonnell Douglas/Boeing C-17 Globemaster III, 8 provided by Spain and 2 by TGEC, escorted by Consortian F22As, was sent to bring materials for forward bases and help transferring troops.

The first troops set out on transport ships, which would make the long journey towards the Daeva. The ships sailed through the ocean blue, their grandeur towering above the vast swaths of the blueish colour. It was a sight to be marveled at. Behind them, the 8th Logistical Support Group was moving slower, carrying a lot more weight. Above, Sol Squadron watched over them and flew in a V formation, having a good situational awareness.

Multiple transport helicopters, of varying classes, including multiple CH-54B Tarhes touch down, unloading their contingent of troops and various equipment. The men seem battered by years upon years of war but unfazed, and even more fanaticized than usual. These are men of the Stratusian National Salvation Front, a no-longer-legal political sub-party in the SRoM after their failed coup.

A few soldiers got some ammo boxes and put them behind the main building, so no one could see where they were. Everyone was getting bored, so they set out a bunch of folding tables to play cards. Everyone was chattering, wondering why this was even necessary. One even said, “Why did they send us here? It is so peaceful, that it seems like vacation. Most people were still on red alert, but just not very uneasy.

OOC Note: all Radioman Broadcasts are heard by all factions

Daily Radioman Broadcast:

“Helloo and welcome back to Radio Free Ahriman! The one and only Desert of Ahriman Conflict Zone pirate radio station! So, lately there have been an influx of foreign interventionist troops. So let me, the Radioman, be the very first an giving them a proper Ahrimani welcome! I would encourage others to give them a very warm welcome as well, at these coordinates! *proceeds to read of the latitude and longitude of several military bases*. Foreign troops, this one goes out to you!”

Radioman’s song of the day: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Q8Tiz6INF7I

Cavern of Ohrmazd, Desert of Ahriman, Holy Empire of the Daeva

The Cavern of Ohrmazd used to be a Zoroastrian temple complex. It was built underground to hide it from the Ottomans and was filled with priceless artifacts and history. And then, in the modern day, the zealots of Ahrimans Wake took over the site for use as a base, burning the artifacts as heretical and killing the elderly caretakers.
“Children of Ahriman!” Their fanatical leader, Kaid Erdogan shouted to an adoring crowd. “The heathens of the so called ‘Holy Empire’ send their foreign apostate allies to test us. But we won’t be deterred from our faith so easily! For every man who dies fighting apostates has his place guaranteed in heaven! So I say no to the heretics demands of submission. DEATH TO DAEVA! GLORY TO AHRIMAN!” He shouted punching his fist into the air, his followers mimicking the gesture. Yes, these foreigners would have to be dealt with.

later…
The terrorists of Ahriman’s Wake began to set up IED devices on known pathways into the desert to sow glorious discord amongst foreign ranks…

The black dual-propeller transport helicopt slowly hovered down onto the ground, kicking up a whirlwind of dust and sand. The helicopter landed gently, the blades of the propeller slowing down to a stop. There was the words Blackwater on the side in white. The back of the helicopter dropped and the group of 20 inside stood up. The started gearing up, grabbing their rifles and sliding on their armor plates. Jacob was a mercenary in Blackwater. The heat hit the group like a wave. Their group leader stepped at the back of the helicopter, infront of the open back.

"Welcome to the Desert of Ahriman, a goldmine for some and hellhole for others. Now then, we've been hired for security and capturing objectives. We're here to set up a field BO, so let's get to it!" The leader said as he turned to walk out of the helicopter. Everyone inside stood up and followed him. They were offically on the ground.

Consortian Joint Expeditionary Force

The Consortian troops finally make themselves seen on the horizon of the Daevan coast. They will land in friendly, secured land and proceed to a preestablished location in the desert to build a forward base. It would be an adventure for the expeditionary force, composed of troops from many nations. Most of them were veterans, having fought in arid environments like Afghanistan or Iraq. They thought that they were ready. The men slowly disembarked and got onto trains, as the aircraft supporting them landed at a larger airport in The Daeva. There was no time to waste. The supplies were brought on replenishment ships and McDonnell Douglas/Boeing C-17 Globemaster IIIs then transported by train to the site of the base. As soon as the engineering company arrived, the base began being built. Its structure slowly rose from the ground, but it would take more time to complete it.

Sentinel International Faction

The mercs boarded the ships. It was time for another intervention, this time in the Daeva. If they managed to take the desert they would have a stable base of operations, and it was time to do it now. Thousands of men loaded onto unmarked container ships to travel to the foreign nation, where they would land as close to the desert as possible and take control of the rail lines leading to it. They set off at dawn, hoping for a smooth journey under a false flag of civilian ships.

Helicopters had been going back and forth from the BO, dropping off the supplies, vehicles, weapons, and everything else needed. The BO wasn't much more then a big camp surronded by sandbags and fences guarded by machine gun nests and sniper towers with a big tent in the center for housing the leadership and planning operations. There were a bunch of smaller tents, each for a different group. Another supply helicopter hovered above the ground and dropped off some supplies before leaving.

Taylor and Jacob were both tasked with bring the supplies to their place. They walked to the dropped off supplies. It was boxes of ammo and food, as well as some tech for the main tent. They both picked up a box and started walking to the main tent.

"It's hot as hell out here." Taylor said. Jacob nodded. Their gear wasn't helping the case, it felt like they were burning up.

"Welcome to the desert." Jacob muttered, repeating his leaders words. The camp was bustling with activity. They could see a helicopter carefully place an APC near the vehicle area and detach its wires before flying off. The camp was still focusing on setting up longrange comms and getting a map of the area. They hadn't met their employer yet, but leadership expected to met them soon.

They both walked into the tent and brought the boxes to the supplies officer. They had about 50 men running around the camp, sorting their supplies and all that. The officer thanked the two and they walked out, back to the supplies.

"This is always the worst part, setting up a functioning operation, especially in the beginning. Sucks." Jacob said. Taylor nodded.

"It's always the hardest, I think. Of course, over the next few days, we'll get more supplies and turn this into an actual base, but it's still a thrown-together process." He said. Jacob nodded as he grabbed the next box. They were surronded by so many different factions and groups, it was risky, but they were taking good measures to ensure their safety. He laughed at that thought. This was gonna be a hell of a time.

Delta Base, near Ahmiran
The sun blazed down oppressively as the hum of rotors filled the air. Slowly descending from a bright, cloudless sky, a CH-47 helicopter touched down on the cracked landing pad, and was immediately attended to by a swarm of soldiers, who helped unload the vital cargo. Then, a jeep rolled out, driving onto the tarmac where more vehicles were lined up. The loadmaster of the CH-47 pushed out the last pallet of cargo, and, after a quick fuelling, the helicopter took off again. “Soon we’ll be ready,” said Colonel Alice Frances, dressed immaculately in her army green uniform, to General Williams, the leader of the small expeditionary task force.

Mediterranean Sea, near Daevic Coastline
On the MNS Western Straits, the atmosphere was electric. The calm waves beyond contrasted with the hectic pace on the flight deck: helicopters were being fuelled and readied for takeoff. Rocket pods were filled, and crews of orange-jacketed technicians scrambled to ready the equipment on the ship for combat. To the east of the Western straits, 2 ships were visible, a destroyer and a frigate. Those were scanning for enemy attacks, although none were expected. Nonetheless, they had to be vigilant…

Consortian Joint Expeditionary Force

The engineering company could finally rest. After working restlessly to bring the forward base online they deserved some rest. The base included a well defended main compound, along with a small airstrip. It was garrisoned by the 3,000 men already present and had quarters for 1,000 more. It was built so rapidly as most of the barracks and materials were transported by the replenishment ships and C17s. Now that the base was operational, Sol Squadron landed, one aircraft by one, at the airstrip.

A defensive perimeter was set around the base, as minefields were laid 2 km west and lookout towers along with motion and IR sensors on the perimeter. Nobody could approach it. It was defended by 4 Phalanx C-rams and one Patriot system, along with countless patrols on the wall. As soon as the base was online 10 LATVs were sent out around the perimeter to survey for any enemy activity outside the detection range of the sensors. Everything could now be prepared to bring down the terrorists

Sentinel International

The tankers housing the PMC units finally arrived at an unmarked site on the coast of the Daeva. They constantly sent out pings and signals marking them as civilians, so that they could sneak by any Marine radars the government may have. Now that they had arrived, enemy satellites could see them, so they had to move fast. M1 Abrams tanks, along with transport trucks were unloaded to get them to an unmarked site in the desert where a small operating base would be set up. They set off through the scorching hot sands, the tyres screaming.

Delta Fort had just been completed two days ago. It was no longer a camp of tents and minimal defenses, it was a full-fledged fort that was functioning as expected. There were ten feet high concrete walls surronding the fort with a machine gun nest spread twenty feet from each other. The base was surronded by a minefield and sniper towers oversaw anything coming from a distance away. Five AA funs had been delivered and small collection of missiles, about 25 in total, was also brought to them. They had built an actual landing pad for helicopters and an airstrip, although it wasn't the best. They had built a building to replace the main tent but not the group tents. The whole fort housed about 4,000 men, and it was already beginning recon missions. It had taken almost five weeks. The men stationed there were told to wait for another group heading towards them to build another outpost. This was going to be their main area.

Lannean Mountains, Ahriman Desert, Holy Empire of The Daeva

The Lannean Mountains, the tool that made Lannea safe and rich, in fact, in all of the Chaos of the Ahriman Desert, Lannea managed to remain relatively stable, however, no ammount of stability managed to made the Daevan Forces remain, and Lannea remained without defences, until the creation of the Lannean Civil Patrol, the Local Militia that defended Lannea in the hope that the Daevans would return one day.

In these mountains the Civil Patrol established some bases and fortresses to control the key passages to Lannea, but if the Civil Patrol did this, also the Terrorists did this, especially the Ahriman Wakes, the theocratic movement who wanted to establish a Theocratic Regime. One of these bases was preparing itself to strike an attack on Lannean territory and establish other bases. All was going normally in the base till explosions hit the base defences, allarming all of the combattants, soon bullets started flying and groups of armed attackers started to flood the base, in a pair of hours the attackers exstinguished all of the resistance and the base lied in ruins, at this point, one of the attackers took off his radio and said :

Capt. Rasmus : " Rasmus here, we cleaned the hostile base from enemy forces, its un-usable and in ruins, we are going to search the documents "

Command : " Good work Rasmus, search the documents and extract "

In the headquarters, the Lanneans finally found what they where searching, the documents about the Movement operations in the region. Mission was over and the attacking force was extracted. Ready to return home

Commander Fores sat on his chair. The AC was at full power, but it did next to nothing to help with the heat. It was unbelievably hot, nothing he was used to. He looked at a rough map on a drawing board on the side of the room. A lazily outlined version of the desert was in green, the next two planned outpost were blue, landmarks were named in black, and known places where there was a presence were in red. The drones had detected some groups, well, actually, a lot of groups in the area. They had found a mine nearby, but it was unknown if it was empty, in use, or completely dry. Captain Ryes entered his office.

"Evening, Captain Ryes." Fores said. Ryes nodded.

"Evening, sir. I have the info the drones got from their recon." He said, handing Fores a file. Fores grabbed it and opened it, looking at ten photos, seven of an abandonded mine and the areas around it, and the remaining three of an explosion and what looked like to forces engaging each other.

"Where is the mine?" Fores asked. Ryes walked to the board, picked up a purple marker, and drew a medium sized circle.

"It's in this area. We don't know where exactly, the drones don't show us their location, but based off of landmarks and what we know, we narrowed it down some." He said. Fores nodded.

"What about the other photos? Is this an attack? What am I looking at here?" He said, tapping the photos.

"Those were taken when the drone flew over the Lannean Mountains, or rather, nearby. Someone was fighting up there and one of our previous recons hinted at a heavy presence of diamonds." Ryes said. Fores nodded. Him, Ryes, and a couple of other captains had a meeting four hours ago with their payer to discuss what he wanted. He said that if they could secure six mines, any other mines they secured beyond that were theirs, and they would be payed in full.

"Okay, here's what I want you to do. Send a small patrol, maybe 35 men, to that mine near us. I want to know if it's empty or not. Keep one of those recon drones in that area," He said, pointing at the blue circle on the drawing board, "and pinpoint where that other mine is. Send another drone to fly over the mountains again, write down every detail. Within two hours, the next batch of guys should be coming, about half a thousand, much smaller then us. I want whatever other drones we have to start getting solid readings on the area, not some half-assed guess as to where things are." Fores said. Ryes nodded.

"Anything else, sir?" He asked.

"Yeah, if the mine near us is dry, rig it to blow, we'll use it as a trap." Fores said. Ryes turned and left the office. Fores looked back at the map. They hadn't seen much in the mountains, other then hints, so why would the first fights be there? He wondered as he opened his computer and checked something. Hour and a half and they would be getting the next men.

An Udaljenian engineering company had started building their own forward operating base, but since both of its runways intersected the Consortian forward operating base's airstrip, the Udaljenian forward operating base was simply considered to be part of the Consortian base.

“TEB-1” (Temporary Expeditionary Base 1)

Lawrence Lopez was sitting on a chair in his tent. He was wondering when they would come, and if they would come. He had to be patient. Then, he stepped out of his tent and yelled “OI! GET BACK IN YOUR POSITIONS!” And stepped back in. At that second, everyone got back in their assigned positions. If all went well, they would be picked up by the KNV Spearhead troop transport to pick them up in a few days or weeks. If everything did not go well, many would die. Lopez knew this, so he wanted everyone on high alert. After about an hour, Lopez called “FIX THEM EQUIPMENT!” Also, he wanted everything and everyone in tip top shape if someone did attack. Even the dogs were a bit confused, abruptly woken up by the first call.
