"The endless dark of the universe is yours, if you but reach out to take it. Yield nothing -- the void respects only strength."
— Serren Travius, Rogue Trader

Welcome! Rogue Trader is a roleplay, as one might imagine, set within the universe of Warhammer 40,000. Rogue Trader is a character roleplay centered around the ad hoc members of the vessel Infinite Fortune. The Fortune is the last inheritance of the late House Absolom and bequeathed to its current owner and proprietor of the Warrant of Trade attached to the vessel. The ship, over ten millennia old and originally a product of the holy forges of Mars' Iron Ring, has housed countless generations serving the whims and wishes of whomever occupied the commander's dais. It's vast holds throughout time having ebbed and flowed much like the fortunes of the Imperium of Man. Housing riches and squalor. Crew sanctioned and not. Mercenaries Human and Xeno alike.

The roleplay will center on the exploits and misadventures of the dramatis personae that call the ship home as they bump around the Galaxy. Whether, by the oft visited vast rogue space station of Precipice, built around a Blackstone Fortress, to the furthest reaches of the Astronomican's light. But primarily be focused on the Segmentum Pacificus and possibly neighboring Obscurus and Tempestus sectors. Players will play, well, characters but also be able to RP their various background retinues or auxiliary forces. Play a force of Guardsmen contracted to the service of the Rogue Trader? Sure. A Sanctioned Psyker just trying to get by? Certainly. Scum and scoundrels looking for a steady paycheque and a place to bed down not in a cramped Hive City? Got it.

What are Rogue Traders?

Rogue Traders are hereditary merchants, scoundrels, diplomats, and warriors. Issued Warrants of Trade, a sacrosanct document, with some even dating back to the Great Crusade and penned by the Emperor's own hand and seal. The Warrants of Trade give the authority of the Rogue Trader to explore and claim treasures from beyond the borders of the Imperium in the name of the God-Emperor of Mankind. While any worlds they claim are theirs until proper Imperial authorities arrive to set up a more conventional government. Rogue Traders are however, generally, forbidden from Holy Terra and by their own remit often spend years if not decades away from proper imperial worlds. As such their forces and ships may often appear ad hoc, patched, and even using xeno technology to keep going. But all such enterprise is tolerated, mostly, so long as the Trader is careful not to upset the wrong people and remain loyal to the Golden Throne.

Rogue Traders can be from all walks of life. Successful Astra Militarum commanders and Naval captains, Administratum functionaries, members of the Inquisition, et cetera. Some are granted such a status by more ulterior motives. Effectively exiling a political enemy, removing a troublesome individual from a region, the list goes on.

The Roleplay

The goal of the Roleplay itself, aside from survival, is to focus primarily on the characters, their interactions, and their respective sub-plots. The main story of the roleplay, which will be designed to be malleable, will initially focus on the happenings of the characters on the rogue station of Precipice and nearby worlds. In pursuit of riches, glory, or purely to advance personal goals. The choice is ultimately up to the players at large. The Operator (myself), and any appointed Co-Operators will be largely responsible for helping advance player plots and goals along with helping react to player actions as a sort of pseudo-dungeon master. However, due to the nature of the roleplay the group won't be beset with fighting for the outcome of vast warzones or fleet engagements. But rather, the small fight, fought in backstreets and half-abandoned space stations. The day-to-day struggle in the uncaring universe of a grimdark far future.

Chronologically, as best can be said for Warhammer 40,000, the Roleplay will be set in the Era Indomitus in the early 300s of M.42. But due to various chronological time wonkery there are still many places unsure of what actual year it is in relation to Holy Terra.

The Infinite Fortune

Credit to the Artist

The Infinite Fortune was originally a Grand Cruiser of a largely forgotten make and model. At four and a half kilometers in length and one kilometer in width at its widest capable of housing tens of thousands for extended durations. Truth be told only the Forge Masters of Mars may actually remember. Catalogued in some half-forgotten ship registry. Regardless, according to ship logs the vessel was launched from Mars on the last day of 997.M30 during the waning years of the Great Crusade. The ship gifted with the Warrant of Trade to the House of Absolom from Holy Terra by the Emperor of Mankind himself. Their only condition was aside from the tasks of the Warrant of Trade to conduct activities therein within the Emperor's name, but also to never return to Terra unless by call or unload valuable artefacts and treasures for the glory of the Imperium. Not once has the Infinite Fortune returned to the Sol System. In all its hundred centuries of service has it been at the edges of explored space. From the Halo Zone to the Eastern Fringe. The Fortune has explored, fought, sacked, and survived in the name of Emperor and Imperium. Now, it finds itself at Precipice and with it a new Lord Captain and Trademaster, who has already assembled quit the eclectic sort to his banner.

The ship itself has been rebuilt and redesigned several times over the millennia. But some key facets remain the same. The overall superstructure and warp drive is the original. Its outer hull decorated by many Absolom scions over the millennia as signs of opulence or grandeur. Often at the expense of other accoutrements like additional weapons batteries. Despite this, the ship boasts a decent amount of protection from armor plating to naval macrocannon turrets and forward mounted torpedo tubes. It even boasts several old lances purchased three millennia prior from Ryza while exploring near the Core.

The ships layout has grown ever labyrinthine over the long millennia. So much so that outside of main areas like the hangars, bridge, state rooms, captain's mansion, enginarium, and crew quarters there are just vast semi-abandoned corridors, compartments, and facilities. Dark kilometer long hallways and chambers now the abode of who knows what. Only sporadically sweeped by the Shipmasters security forces in a preventative manner should anything be down there growing too out of control. Such as mutant families and the like.

The inhabited areas of the ship itself varies from the similar gothic style of many ships of human make to palatial galleries and foyers of the Shipmasters quarters.

Position: Mercenary and Advisor to the Rogue Trader
Personal Equipment:
-Phoenix Claws: Elegant power-claws forged into special vambraces and capable of extension by thought to unsheath and re-sheath.
-Asurav'shah'meshyan, the Phoenix Blade, is a Witchblade of ancient make rescued during The Fall of the Eldar and an heirloom of Lytheriel's house. Its fiery red gold blade seems to swirl and flow with molten gold and silver strands. While its helical psychic matrix attunes itself to its owner.
-Shimmershield built into her Mesh Armor
Character Description/Image: Image
Biography: Lytheriel was born on the Maiden World of Ishara on the edge of the Halo Zone while the Corsairs her parents led as Prince and Princess stopped for resupply. Born into the old remnants of the Eldar aristocracy she spent most of her childhood on the void ships of the Corsairs. Only setting foot on Craftworlds or Exodite planets sporadically and briefly. Usually, as her parents conducted some deal or trade. For the Void Dragons in this time had a mighty fleet of over three dozen vessels of various classes and many a foe was mere prey to them. As they stalked the space lanes of worlds across the Galaxy. Preying upon human freighters mainly.

However, with the coming of the Blackness and the Fall of Cadia, and the eruption of the Cicactrix Maledictum, the Corsairs found themselves on the 'safer' side of the Rift but beset. The system they were in and currently sacking, Apollis VI, was struck by warp storms and the fleet found itself engaged by an emerging Chaos Fleet. Unable to quickly escape the Corsairs had to fight a protracted retreat from not only the world but to the edges of the system. Near a safe channel were a Webway portal could be used to slip away and sealed behind them. The sudden foe was unrelenting. Daemons manifested and the hunger of Slaanesh was keenly felt. As the casualties mounted the retreat turned to flight and try as they might not all the soulstones of their Corsairs could be retrieved in time. The flagship of the Corsair Fleet, a Void Stalker of venerable renown known as Isha's Crown, was struck by close range broadsides and even as it seemingly escaped, the debris of dozens of other Eldar vessels forming a new graveyard above the planet behind, it was dying. Critical systems failing and its structure critical. The Corsairs lamentably abandoned it amid the systems outer asteroid belt. Escaping into the Webway on smaller craft.

But sealing the Portal behind them had not gone to plan for the Daemons, not sated by those they slain and soulstones consumed of those left behind, followed the Corsairs doggedly into the Webway. For standard days the Corsairs fought a near constant battle of survival amid the labyrinthine webway and their only salvation came when they fled to an Exodite world, and there, the native Exodites lent aid in vanquishing the Daemons. The damage was however done. Out of the Corsair Host that stood mighty a week prior only four-hundred and thirty-two remained. The Exodites lent what aid they could and pointed them in the direction of a Webway Portal near a Shrine to Asuryan on their world. A portal with a clear route to the Precipice system. There, their young and at least by Eldar standards naive Princess, bereft of parents slain in the Webway, struck a deal with a Human Rogue Trader. A refuge aboard his ship in exchange for their services until such a time they have rebuilt themselves enough to amicably part ways.

Retinue:
-Bellethayne Shadowmoon, sole surviving Warlock of the Void Phoenixes.
-Z'hraen Silverhelm, sole surviving Wraithguard of the Void Phoenixes. Guards the quarters given to the Corsairs by the Rogue Trader

Character Name: Cap'n Ogzur Bonebraka
Character Age: 55
Character Species: Ork
If Human are you Abhuman: N/A
Position: Freebootaz Mercenary
Personal Equipment: dual engine jetpack, choppa, triple barrel blunderbus, Servo-skull named Polly, Freebooterz armor
Character Description/Image:
Image

Biography: Despite his name, Cap'n Ogzur Bonebraka never actually lead a crew of his own. Well, not unless you count Polly his servo-skull compatriot. For most of his existence, he rode with a crew of Freebooterz known as "Da Krumpin' Bootaz" until an unfortunate disagreement over loot led to a crew wide conflict that left Ogzur as the only survivor. He tells the story of the fight differently every time. Sometimes he started a mutiny over loot. Others he just wanted to prove he was the toughest of the lot. But in truth he wasn't even there. At the start of the argument one of his crewmates threw a sword over a hill in anger. Ogzur chased after it, and when he returned the entire crew had just finished killing each other. Ogzur went through the rubble and viscera of the aftermath and picked every one clean until he had the armor and weapons that he wanted. Including taking the captain's tricorn for his own. Since then he goes by Cap'n Ogzur. And be wary to forget to mention Cap'n when speaking his name. As he is likely to take aggressive offense.

He took his crew's ship for his own. But with no crew raiding isn't very possible. Thankfully, it wasn't long after this that he came across the Infinite Fortune. The name of the ship alone enticed him almost as much as a waagh would. It took a world of convincing for the Rogue Trader's vessel to allow him to dock. But eventually they relented and Cap'n Ogzur has been present on the ship ever since. Always there and ready to be of use for the crew. Offering his services as something of a mercenary. So long as you providing him with plenty of loot in return.

While on the Infinite Fortune, Cap'n Ogzur came a cross a malfunctioning Vox Servo-skull. Its vocal pattern was seemingly broken. It could only ever repeat back what was said to it. Ogzur took the skull on as his pet unknowingly forming a psychic connection with it and making it his familiar. Naming it Polly. One day the repetition annoyed Cap'n Ogzur enough that he punched the skull. Ironically the percussive maintenance repaired the skull and it was able to speak normally once more. To this day Cap'n Ogzur and Polly are inseparable. To hire Cap'n Ogzur for a mission is to hire Polly along with him.

Character Name: Lucian Dunn
Character Age: 51, appears late 20s given rejuvenate treatments
Character Species: Human
If Human are you Abhuman: Yes(?) - Psyker, Gamma class by assignment
Position: Inquisitor, officially of the Ordo Malleus
Personal Equipment:

Heavily tuned Lucius No.98 lass rifle - featuring a tuned focussing away, custom trigger, reinforced barrel with more efficient cooling rings, padded stock with a semi-pistol grip, x2.5-6.5 magnified optic, flash hider and camoline wrap.

Voss Pattern MK.10 Auto pistol - featuring a holographic colimeter sight, suppressor, forward grip and more stable side folding stock.

Zorona "Quick Draw" - .52 stub revolver.

Nagasena Pattern Force sword - An esoteric weapon using a design that is ancient, even by Imperial Standards. A long, nearly 4 foot long single edged blade featuring a long hilt topped with a circular, silver guard. Nano-forged steel with an Adamantine edge, its long hilt hides a compact yet powerful Psi-Convertor, its serpentine circuit tendrils snaking up the blade itself and are included in the intricate Dragon design inlaid into the blade. He refers to it as "Yoshihiro"

Stiletto boot knife.

Custom fitted set of carapace armor featuring a refractor shield generator, rebreather, preysight goggles and helmet.

Inquisitorial Rosette of a noticeable older design often wrapped in a Catharic Cross and rosary.

These are his standard operational items of kit, for operations requiring more defense and offensive power he's able to equip a loadout consisting of:

A set of powered armor, consisting of ceramite plating and a fully enclosed helmet with built vox and auspecs.

A Godwyn-Lock Bolter in .60 munitorim cartridge.

A Ryza Pattern Mk.V "Sunspite" plasma pistol

Character Description/Image: A rather unassuming man at roughly 5’9, with short, somewhat shaggy dark hair, a sharp jaw and usually some form of stubble, he sports rather distinctive violet eyes betraying his Cadian heritage that often manifest a soft glow, normally a trick of the light, they do in fact take on a more vibrant glow in relation to the usage of his powers, often betraying his nature as a Psyker of considerable capacity.

He is noticeably toned, if surprisingly slim for his chosen profession and can often be seen wearing a set of reading spectacles when not engaged in more violent work, His lower body and most of his limbs are blemished and scared with cumulative years of wounds, and the palms and wrists of his hands sport a distinct burn like scarring.

Biography:

Born to a pair of Cadians with blood as far back as Kasr Kraf, his childhood was short and ill-remembered as he was swiftly and quickly whisked away to the Scholastica Psykanum upon the early manifestation of his considerable psychic powers. Trained for the first 20 years of his life in the Scholastica, he would be spared the assignment to either the Navis Nobilite or as a meer battle psyker to the Imperial Guard and instead adopted by the nominally famous Rogue Trader turned Inquisitor Lord Ibraham Grim.

A noticeably gruff man, Grim seemed to have taken to the young man and trained him in both his trades, as a daring, dashing rogue trader and enterprising merchant as well as a Daemonhunter and purging of Cults across the Imperium. By the time he neared his 30th year he was both adopted officially by Grim, thus giving him the right to wield his ancient Warrant of Trade and also elevated him to the office of proper Inquisitor, thus granting him two of the most powerful documents in the Imperium.

Gifting him ownership of a singular small warp capable shuttle and officially assigning him the then barely established surgeon Valina Sokol as his acolyte and partner, he set out for The Galaxy at large and began doing the work of his Ordo. Starting out small he aided several older inquisitors in their operations, achieving various small victories and often seconding his name to their accomplishments. His breakout into some notoriety came with the answering the call to aid Inquisitor Gryndal in his pacification of the Nurgle Cut rebellion of Hive Tertium on the world of Atoma. His part in the eventual stopping of this cult would garner him some warranted respect and reputation. This, combined with a financial windfall allowed him to finally purchase a personal ship, the 1185 foot long Star Dancer, a Calisto class armed clipper, formerly a private yacht turned light trade ship.

Since then he has spent the last few decades slowly building his retinue, gathering a few groups of those lost and dispossessed in the chaos amid the grand reshuffling of the order of the Imperium the great rift and the Indomitus Crusade has brought.

Recently he has been requested to rejoin the Infinite Fortune per an old pact with it’s owner.

Retinue:
From lightest to heaviest:

20 surviving guardsmen formerly of the Cadian 20th mechanized infantry, two Chimera APCs. Gear is repainted in inquisition colors sans the right shoulder which still bear the original sigil of the Cadian 20th
Led by 1st L.T Kaybor Hoffman

Picked from a munitorim depot on Prosan, they were enlisted into the Inquisitors service both out of need and sympathy on the Inquisitors side due to their common origin. All have this since been re-trained and equipped as Tempestus Scions and are considered soldiers of the Inquisition.

12 Soldiers of the veteran 109th "Akkadian Devils" Harakoni heavy drop regiment. Trained and equipped in their native gear and used as Hive/Urban warfare specialists. Their colors vary, but they carry the Inquisitorial sigil. Led by Captain Kassandra Paradopolis. A single drop chimera is included.

Personal Circle:

Trooper designation 77362848-76-John - Veteran Sergeant and Grenadier formerly of the death Korps of Krieg, it is unknown how he came to be in the Inquisitors service however it's hypothesized by the rest of the retinue that the skull masked shock trooper owes some form of debt to the Inquisitor.

Preferred weapons consist of a Type XIV hellgun, a krieger sword bayonet and a bolt pistol said to be a gift from the Inquisitor. He wears the standard Krieg issued heavy carapace armor set.

Interrogator Valina Sokol - Former Hospitalar of the order of the Eternal Candle and now an Inquisitorial Acolyte, she is an accomplished combat Surgeon and interrogator. She is also the first of the Inquisitors companions and the two maintain a close, personal bond that some hypothesize is romantic. She dons the white and red carapace armored robes of her former order sans it's heraldry, which has been replaced by the Inquisitorial sigil and in combat wields her Surgeons tools and a bolt pistol.

Kara-Nu-13 - Mechanicus enginseer and weaponsmith, she acts as the retinue’s chief armor and vehicle mechanic and acts in conjunction with the Star Dancers enginseer in the maintenance of the Inquisitor’s ship. Considered a bit divergent by mechanicus standards, she was assigned to the Inquisitor as a form of soft exile, an assignment she now enjoys given it’s relative freedom from doctrine and supervision of the wider mechanicus.

Along side a set of multi-purpose mechadendrites, she wields an omission axe and lasspistol.

Brother Astartes Morin Garin - An Astartes of the ill-omened Raptors Astartes chapter, the Marine is considered to be the Inquisitor’s closest friend and confidant and often acts as his personal bodyguard, his imposing stature giving added backing to the already considerable weight of the Inquisitor’s Rosset. Doned in the standard model astartes power armor native to his chapter, he is notable for bearing both a hooded camoline cloak but also a stalker bolt rifle alongside his standard Godwyn pattern boltgun and astartes combat knife. The result of the Inquisitor requesting the Astartes for aid, his mission was deemed worthy, if albeit low priority, and was thus detailed the singular marine. His attachment has since become semi-permanent and only interrupted when the Raptor’s recall him to aid in larger campaigns.

The Star Dancer
An ancient design by date, the Calisto class clipper has origins as an armed fast currier and light trade ship laid down in the Saturnine fleet yards of old Sol. Just shy of 1200 feet long and resembling a sleek winged dart, the ship is painted in the mute gunmetal grey and black of the Inquisition and features it's sigil along its hull, a tall Auspec and auger mast behind its spacious command bridge belies its rather compact and utilitarian design native to an era bereft the rampant religious dogma and archaic design cues of later times. Featuring a cluster of three Westfield "Star Fury" high grade plasma drive cones mounted aft of the spherical housing of its similarly highly optimized KF-23 Warp drive and Gellar field unit. While Utilitarian, it's internals do feature luxuries and utilities often not found on anything other than the high price yachts and pleasure craft of planetary governments. Fitted out with a full armory, miniaturized manufactorum workspace and astronavigation room, it also features a surprisingly spacious cargo bay that in recent years had been turned in to extra crew quarters and recreational facilities for the Inquisitors standing men at arms and their heavy equipment.

In terms of more recent refits, a moderate sized personal Psykarnum provides special, shielded space for resident psykers and a modern weapon's suit has been installed featuring a spread of 8 point defense cannons, 6 heavy lass cannon turrets, two mine laying chutes, and a battery of 4 semi fixed forward mounted heavy autocannons as well as external mounts for a set of 2 light anti ship torpedoes. This speed and fire power comes at a cost of survivability, as the ship is only nominally armored and reinforced and shielded only against fighter craft grade ordinance.

Captain on deck! :)

Character Name: Veruca Helayna Absolom
Character Age: 62 Standard Terran Years - However appears in her late 20's or early 30's thanks to rejuvenation therapy, synthskin grafts and the like.
Character Species: Human
If Human are you Abhuman: No
Position: Lady-Captain of the Infinite Fortune, holder of House Absolom's Warrant of Trade.
Personal Equipment:

A fine suit of hand-crafted artificer Carapce Armor made to her specifications by the artificers of the Helmschmidt armorsmith's guild on Hoxith, it includes a built-in refractor shielding system and comes with a rebreather-equipped helmet.

A brace of three Hot-shot Laspistols comissioned by Savlyan Absolom four centuries ago from the famed armsmaker Jyn Zoh from the world of Palacarn, the so-called "light-locks" are prized heirlooms of House Absolom and no less lethal today then when they were first wrought.

A Harasq-pattern rail-assisted burst-fire capable Autopistol with an attached suppressor and flashlight-module.

An Accatran-Pattern Lascarbine of the type used by the Elysian drop-shock troops of the Astra Militarum, comes with an attached holographic sight with up to 4x magnification.

The Ruins, two sleek, ancient heirloom Power-swords of unknown make and origin, some believe them to have originally been held even by the First One, House Absolom's legendary founder a hundred centuries ago, brought from Holy Terra itself. What little is known is that they have been in the possession of House Absolom for a very long time.

A small Conversion Field-generator that can easily be concealed and worn under a jacket or cloak.

A small blade of unassuming make, it has been modified in the Fortunes smithies with bioweapon coding where it's runnel was coated with a compound that produces cyanide on contact with hemoglobin.

A wide variety of high-end augmetic upgrades including:

Yuheyan "Clairvoyant" Cyber-eyes - Provides the user with a retinal HUD that can display various kinds of information. The Clairvoyant model also has the ability to match visual silhouettes and body kinetics to micro-thermographic data and t-wave lens modules, thus providing a limited degree of “x-ray vision” through thin walls and light cover. When combined with some of her other implants such as the Mk.8 Sentry body-monitoring system implanted into her chest-cavity, Veruca's retinal HUD can display current medical condition as well as provide wireless audio-visual voxcomm over local networks.

Sherenkov M-14A Aug-Limb System - Artificial limb-replacement cybernetics for the arms and legs made from advanced polymers and lightweight metals. In place of an organic musculature, these augmetics use a mass of wire-thin electro-stimulated plastic cables that mimic the actions of muscle tissues, but to a greatly strengthened degree. In combination with tiny motors and shock-absorbing liquid polymer buffers, these cyber-limbs are capable of far exceeding human physical abilities. The arms help carrying and moving heavy objects, compensating for weapon recoil and even punching through a light wall while the legs allow enhanced jump range and greater sprint speed.

Zavoyar "Quicksilver" reflex-boosting system - A decentralized augmetic connected to the legs, a distributed set of disc-implants in the spinal-column, and to other elements of the body's vestibular system. Basically acts as a supercharger for the human nervous system, greatly boosting reflex speed and corporeal control.

Dermaflak - A supple, micro-thin liquid-suspended material implanted beneath the epidermis in key areas of the body, as well as over the surface or under the synthskin of pre-existing augmetics. When kinetic energy from a physical blow or a weapon discharge strikes the material, the fluid becomes rigid, deflecting the impact shock. Dermaflak is thus able to reduce inflicted damage effects from blunt-force trauma, glancing gunshots as well as cutting or slashing attacks, though any kind of solid hits from a high impact weapon will generally go right through it.

MHD-995 Cogsys - A dedicated microcogitation-module featuring a series of processors and databases implanted directly into the cranium, this augmetic allows the user to directly connect and interface with a variety of cogitator-systems either wirelessly when possible or though a wire that can be extended from the palm of an arm or hand-replacement aug. The 995-model gives its user the CPU clock cycles necessary for a chance to attempt a data penetration of target cogitator-systems before triggering any intrusion counter-measures or alarms.

Character Description/Image:
"Gharad Absolom needs to get that daughter of his under the damn boot."

"I could have sworn she crawled here from Necromunda's underhive, Emperor's thruth."

"And that disgusting scar... why wouldn't she have that handled?" - Overheard at a soirée held at Lord Aulus´ manor on planet Coraquis.

Biography:

Born into the ancient House of Absolom as the second child of Lord-Captain Gharad Absolom, Veruca along with her elder sister Settara and younger brother Roderyk were raised as most scions of a Rogue Trader House were, instructed in all manner of subjects be they mundane or esoteric, assigned the best mentors from among the Rates of the ship and when docked on worlds they would meet the finest tutors Lord Gharad's money could buy. Truth be told, House Absolom's fortunes had been on the decline for the last few centuries, spurred by a long succession of incompetent and inept Traders who squandered much of the House's fortunes over the last few centuries. Still, after a hundred centuries, this was far from the first time House Absolom's fortunes had waned, only to rise again, and then wane a few centuries later. Such was the nature of things, but Lord-Captain Gharad was determined to reverse House Absolom's long declining fortunes and thus spared little expense in his children's education.

Placed under a harsh regimen of training and education, the willful Veruca chafed under the iron-handed discipline her father placed her and her siblings under, but she still absorbed much knowledge and many skills. After all, she was the daughter of a Rogue Trader, a scion of House Absolom. And Rogue Traders are not like any other nobles in the Imperium, oftentimes in Imperial noble families, the second, third, and even fourth child finds themselves with little option but to simply languish in obscurity, hoping that circumstances arise to change their fate. In Rogue Trader families, all are expected to work and prove themselves. As Veruca's father liked to say, "Everyone fights, nobody quits. You don't do your job, with the Emperor as my witness I'll space you myself." Usually followed up by a backhand or two if he found one of them slacking. She took a particular liking to learning the intricate mechanics of the ancient vessel that was her home and birthright, and to the tales of exploration left by her ancestors in dusty logbooks and half-crumbled data-stacks detailing their journeys beyond charted space. Meetings arranged by her father with Magos Explorators also contributed to spurring an innate curiosity.

After coming of age she was sent by her father to join the Imperial Navy as a Midshipwoman and to work her way up the officer ranks, a career that would help her build many of the skills she would one day need serve the House, perhaps even lead it should something happen to Settara. The regimented life of the military was not a good fit for the willful young woman, and the revulsion with which her peers treated her out of jealousy, seeing her as treading water until her privileged birthright recalls her, did little to endear her to the Imperial Navy. Her anger growing, something had to give, and it did. Veruca's shore-leaves soon turned into a parade of debauchery. Absinthe. Wantonness. More absinthe. Brawling, gambling, slander. Lines of Purple. Absinthe and Spacer's Honey. Spacer's Honey alone. Spacer's Honey in company. Still, the dismissal only came after the incident with those damned pirates. A newly minted Lieutenant, on a routine patrol Veruca was placed in temporary command of a Frigate to take it back to port of repairs. It was a routine run until they came upon a distress-signal from a waylaid freighter having been attacked by pirates.

Immediately giving chase with the intent of boarding the ship and rescuing the hostages, she thus refused to open fire on the ramshackle vessel, giving the pirates the time they needed to warp-out of the system as the Frigate closed to intercept. That was the last infraction the Navy was willing to tolerate and Veruca was promptly dismissed from the service, her last-name the only thing saving her from a court-martial. But not from the scandal. Returning to the Infinite Fortune, Veruca was met by an enraged father deeply disappointed with her dishonorable discharge. The only family member who showed any sympathy being her little brother. Luckily for her, the Fortune was about to depart on a long expedition to an uncharted sector of space. In her childhood and adolescence, that was what had captivated her, the unknown. Reading the logs of her ancestors of their great exploratory journeys, speaking with the Adeptus Mechanicus Explorators that her father arranged for them to meet. She threw herself into the exploratory mission with great fervor, slowly mending the bridges with her father as she started earning a sort of deeply begrudging respect from him for her efforts. Still, her willful nature presisted, untempered either by him or by the navy. As did her... appetites and the anger festering in her navy days.

Still, the intrigues between Rogue Trader Houses can be as deadly as any other danger in the Void, rivals wary of the slowly reversing fortunes of House Absolom plotted and schemed, striking as the Infinite Fortune returned from a four-year expedition into uncharted space with the brutal slayings of her father and older sister as they attended an underground cold-trade auction to sell off alien artifacts taken from a world yet unnamed. Unexpectedly, the Infinite Fortune and House Absolom's Warrant of Trade fell into Veruca's hands. For ten years she has led both the House and the Fortune as Lady-Captain, her adventures taking her across the Imperium and beyond. She has mostly assisted Imperial war-efforts and taken work from the merchant-guilds and noble houses to build up resources and capital for a proper multi-year expedition into the uncharted worlds beyond the Munus Nebula. At one point she ended up being drawn into the intrigues in Hive Callust on the planet of Erdroth, she ended up meeting Philou D'Jhoss, a local police investigator who came upon a solid tip about an attempted plot against Lord Ravros, the ruler of the Hive. While they failed to save Lord Ravros, Veruca did succeed in gaining a new companion. Out of the parade of lovers, trysts and affairs she had over the years, Philou D'Jhoss was the one man to date who managed to truly steal her heart. Not only that, with him at her side, she had someone who could help her track down the scum who slaughtered her father and sister.

Unfortunately however, not all "clay-feet", as spacers sometimes call the ground-born can handle the void, and... unfortunately Veruca ended up being a... bad influence. The stresses of voidborne living and the intensity of her life ended up being a bit too much. Her lifestyle was toxic to him, and within a month of moving into the Captain's Manor, she made him addicted. As the months went by she saw his personality fragmenting into pieces, replaced by the raw need and the shame apparent in his eyes. Unable to bear living in the void of space and consumed by the shame of his downward spiral, he vanished into one of the megacities on the planet of Athan as the Fortune docked to offload a cargo shipment. Veruca searched for days and days, scouring the slums, the flophouses, the coffin-hotels in her desperate quest for a man who did not want to be found. In the end, she succeeded, in a way. But she was too late to save his life. All she could do now was to bring the body back to Erdroth so he could rest in the Emperor's peace instead of rotting in a landfill with the countless others slain in the wanton violence of the megacity slums. She hasn't mentioned his name since she delivered the corpse back to his mother.

The Infinite Fortune departed Erdroth on a number of odd jobs before entering an extensive period of cooperation with Inquisitor Layla Saleh, helping in hunting down and annihilating Chaos cults across the Dysean Stars, there, the Lady Captain developed such a reputation for savagery combating the forces of the Great Enemy that on some occasions even the most blood-maddened chaos cultists preferred to flee rather than face the Fortune and Inquisitor Saleh in battle. At this time Veruca also became a major supplier of servitors in the local area, made from former Chaos cultists and heretics, taken captive and brutally lobotomized and reconfigured into mindless cybernetic drones aboard the Fortune. With money made from her work with Inquisitor Saleh, Veruca managed to accrue significant stocks of supplies, hiring mercenaries and taking on specialists for what she planned would be a ten-year journey of exploration, filling in the hole in the Imperial void-charts known as the Scarabeus Drift, she had poured over ancient texts and data-stacks, gathering obscure archival reference to a lost worlds of alien wonder and ancient human colonies long lost to time deep within.

Finally, when the time came to start the expedition the Fortune warped-out from the stardocks of Precipice, but... they had barely charted two systems before being cornered by a hostile force of ramshackle ships of void-crazed mutants, the lost and damned remnants of some long-lost expedition. The mutants struck with great fury, and a fierce battle ensued, as the Fortune's lances and macroguns blasted ramshackle warbarges left and right, taking return-fire from enemy torpedoes. In the heat of battle, in an instance of supreme bad luck, a shot from one of the light macros of the enemy ships pierced a weak point in the hull and detonated an auxiliary generatorum. The blast crippled the ]Fortune[/i] and as Veruca along with D'Anthon Phi and Khaml Vhek led the damage control teams making the repairs, the ship was boarded, forcing the captain to repel the attackers while Phi and Vhek fervently made repairs, chanting to soothe the wounded machine-spirits and powering up the warp-drive capacitors to make an escape. As the captain drove off the boarders alongside the defenders, the ancient warp-drive roared to life and the Fortune started limping it's way back Precipice, with some new and eclectic passengers and... crewmembers picked up along the twisting path back from the Scarabeus Drift...

Retinue:

Sadavir Erryn - A former Imperial Navy logistics officer, he first worked alongside Veruca nine years ago when she first took up the mantle of House Absolom and was tasked with supporting Imperial military operations in the Drachyon Battlezone by ferrying in supplies through dangerous warp-lanes beset with Chaos pirates. Despite Veruca's own checkered history with the Imperial Navy, the two eventually grew to respect each-other, recognizing his skill in supply and logistics management, and caught in the middle of what ended up a short if intense tryst, Veruca offered him the position of Seneschal, where he has served since.

Fathema Mwaleh - A young sanctioned psyker once in service to a planetary governor. Fathema was rescued by Veruca from an Imperial space-station orbiting a Feral world where she had previously lived as it came under attack by chaos forces. Fathema has a unique connection to the warp, occasionally allowing her to glimpse an inkling of the future. Immediately recognizing her value, Veruca demanded her service in payment from the governor of the Feral World which she had served in exchange for rescuing him and his family from the chaos marauders.

D'Anthon Phi - A former Magos Explorator of the Adeptus Mechanicus with more than two centuries of experience in the vastness of the void. D'Anthon however ended up in a series of unfortunate events, leading to a small crisis of faith. He left the explorator-fleet and settled for a few decades on a small frontier Forge-World, meditating on the mysteries of the Omnissiah. There, he one day met Rogue Trader Veruca Absolom as the Infinite Fortune docked at the planet for repairs. Working in the planet's voidyards, the Rogue Trader managed to rekindle his passion for exploration, and he joined the crew with his retinue of 14 Enginseers.

Roderyk Absolom - Veruca's younger brother and current heir to House Absolom, Roderyk is a man much in the image of his father, a skilled fighter and a serious man in discussion and business. He is in many ways the opposite of his elder sister, temperate and abstinent where she can fall into indulgence and temptation. He is well-disciplined in both leadership and battle, and while he and Veruca don't always share the same views, she values his council and they both share a strong determination to advance their House and bring it out of it's current predicaments, which is why he serves his sister faithfully as her First Mate and executive officer.

Zhess and Plekh - Two Kroot mercenaries bonded to the service of House Absolom for life in a deal struck with the Shaper of a Kroot clan on an unnamed planet in the Iaradan Drift, they act as two of Veruca's closest bodyguards, she mostly refers to them as "Left" and "Right".

Khaml Vhek - An old tech-priest who has long served House Absolom as the ship's machinist. Having joined the crew under the command of her father, Khaml has come to see the ship as his own personal shrine to the Omnissiah and he is a close confidant and, some would say friend of Veruca's since her childhood, ever ready to share his knowledge of she ship and feeding her intense curiosity. A trait perhaps little admired in most of the Emperor's servants, but more than meritorious in a Rogue Trader, and the search for knowledge is after all the way of the Machine God.

Haidan Sulst - Commander of the 84 Immortals, the main armed and security force of House Absolom.

The Infinite Fortune - She may be old, and not in her finest shape after centuries of waning fortunes. But she is still a Grand Cruiser...

The Crew and complement of the Infinite Fortune - Home to 61 312 souls, not counting mutants and other scum hiding in the Ratways deep in the bowels of the ship. Most of the crew are spacers born and raised on the ship where they will live and die in service of House Absolom, just like their forefathers have for generations upon generations. The crew is divided into hereditary so called "Rates", in a sort of caste-system, ranging from the Scourhands who are responsible for cleaning the walls, floors and hallways to the Lamplighters, who serve as the ship's electricians and the Suturers who serve as the ship's complement of medical personnel. The main fighting force on the ship are the 2500-strong 84 Immortals who form the ship's security wing as well as a few dozen mercenaries. The Infinite Fortune also houses a number of dropships of varying kinds in it's docking bays, it even has a squadron of Fury starfighters crewed by veteran mercenary pilots.

Character Description/Image:

Character Name: Kalven von Klemmens (Third of his name)
Character Age:42
Character Species:Human
If Human are you Abhuman: No
Position: Free-Blade Retainer in the employ of Pelepon Sector Governor Jannko Tsagos.
Personal Equipment: Personal Carapace armor, Artificer two-handed power sword,
Character Description/Image:

Biography: Kalven von Klemmens is the sole remaining member of the Pelepon brance of House Von Klemmens, after a brutal war between members the two branches of the House ended with all males except Kalven being killed in a series of duels, he was granted Free-blade status and exiled with his armor and personal maintenance retainers. He has made a living as a Free-blade but, with administration never being his strong suit has never managed to go beyond paycheck to paycheck, as it were. His love of gambling and insistence of attending formal galas to "broker poltical support" for his return has left him free of a debtor's huntsman only due to his martial prowess. Three solar months ago, his fortunes changed at a highborn attended pit-fight. It was there he met Ausjorn Abolt, personal executioner and guard of Governor Tsagos. Over a long night of betting and drinking, Ausjorn grew to show the man favor and requested his noble benefactor help the man find work (mainly so he could pay Ausjorn the money he owed him).

Like that, fortunes changed and Kalven had a powerful supporter who promised him great wealth and continued work should he show himself useful. For this the Governor had a simple task, lead a detachment of retainers to escort a rogue trader and ensure the Governor's investment in the Rouge trading cartel was successful.

Retinue: With Kalven will come a host of retainers, depending on negotiations between Governor Tsagos and good Captain.

Potential escorts include, 140 men of the Hallenz Auxiliary( three 40 man platoons, command and support staff), 3 crusaders, a Navigator (to be IC'd by another member who has applied), An interrogator from the Ordo Navis, to document the findings of the navigator in unknown or under explored regions in the era of the great rift, and last but not least a possible contingent of Astartes from the Sanctors of Pelepon Chapter.

Character Name: Clovis Nox
Character Age: 34
Character Species: Human
If Human are you Abhuman: Yes (Gland Warrior, Blank)
Position: Arch-Militant to Inquisitor Dunn
Personal Equipment: Two Las Pistols, Battle glaive, combat knife
Character Description/Image:
Image

Biography: Clovis was only 19 when he was made into a Gland Warrior. As a Guardsman, he believed that he needed to do anything and everything for the good of Mankind. So when he was told that he needed to under go these procedures to make him stronger he didn't give it a second thought. If he had any idea what he would witness, he would have given it many more than just two thoughts. Entering battle with other Gland Warriors at his side, he faced the harrowing forces of the Tyrannids. Battles so savage and visceral that his mind still hasn't fully grasped the horrors that he has witnesses. He would have severe PTSD, and anyone who speaks to him for too long would likely think that he does. But the drugs that are running through his system do to his implanted glands dull most of the parts of him that can even truly process trauma. Whether it be physical or mental. One might be concerned for his soul, yet he doesn't even have one. Clovis is a blank. Carrying the pariah gene. Making him a target of the Imperium since his birth. It is part of why after his many battles for the Imperium, Clovis was not afforded the choice of where he would go next. He was simply too valuable. A blank and a Gland Warrior, assigned to the command of Inquisitor Dunn so that he can always be in the watchful eye of the Imperium. Since then, he has proven himself to be a prolific fighter and strategist. Ascending to the rank of Arch-militant. A title he cares little for. As it is simply a means to an end. His battles have broken him in many ways. Making him a man who today sees nothing but the next fight. A man who relishes in the wrath of battle. A man who, were he not a blank, many would worry was an agent of Khorne himself.

Pretty much done with the captain.

Maybe just gonna add some pics for the retinue, but otherwise it's ready for review.

Plotek i medialnych bredni nie daj sobie wmówić,
Codziennie się rozwijaj i nie daj się ogłupić,
Atakowi propagandy stawiaj czoło dzielnie,
Nie daj sobą sterować i myśl samodzielnie.

Mass Effect Andromeda is a solid 7/10. Deal with it.
