Most American christians believe in very contradictory ideas from both non-americans and other americans. This is mainly because the teaching of church doctrine was dedicated to individual churches instead of wide-spread ones like in Europe, and so every pastor or priest or what have you gets to teach it however they want. It's also, however, because American christians often make up "christian" beliefs instead of taking it from bibles or churches, etc. like in the rest of the world. I went to church for most of my life and we mostly sung gospel and watched the priest ramble about The Father instead of reading the bible and learning scripture.

That’s basically Protestantism (low church authority) vs Orthodox and Catholicism (high church authority)

The first part, sure, but the second part isn't really down to Protestantism. There's very little bible reading in the churches I went to, (Baptist, btw) its mostly just the pastor talking. I don't know if that's universal in the US though.
