"Just so Summanus, wrapped in a smoking whirlwind of blue flame, falls upon people and cities." - John Milton, In Quintum Novembris

@Marquesan I hereby proclaim you as the Gothic Mad Scientist, who actually isn't mad but a brilliant genius which every nations military goes to consult when they quietly tell their leaders, "We'll consult our experts" and when asked who they always say "private sources"
@Marquesan I will say man you're the only person on NS I've ever mistaken for a genuine Weapons designer.

8,660 meters (28,412') in 11 Minutes, 33 Seconds @ 12.5 M/Sec / 2,460 feet per minute

Description:

The Honore-Auguste Drekavac is a tri-motor floatplane produced in The Marquesan Union, it took its first flight in the summer of 1940 and began mass serial production following an extensive testing and development program. Drekavac is broadly used for reconnaissance and rescue, taking off and landing on water using its floats, which have retractable wheels in them to allow for transitioning from water to land simply. The modular trellis frame which attaches the floats integrates shock absorbers which can also detach the floats and fit skis to permit use on snow and sea ice. A sleek and aerodynamic design, Drekavac is powered by a trio of 14-cylinder, twin row 31.5 liter radial engines, two mounted in wing nacelles and one in the aircraft's nose, fitted with silencers to direct the flow of exhaust away from the cabin and to lower the aircraft's acoustic signature. Drekavac's engines produce more than 4,000 horsepower combined, contributing to an impressive 440 horsepower per ton. Despite the drag caused by attaching floats or skis, a 312 mile per hour maximum speed can be maintained for nearly 750 miles, or a nearly 200 mile per hour cruise speed can be held over 2,300 miles. Drekavac has excellent balance and slow-speed handling characteristics, with a 62 mile per hour takeoff and landing speed; the aircraft can take off in only 1,400 feet and climbs on all three engines at 2,460 feet per minute, carrying eight passengers or more than 4,500 pounds of cargo. Drekavac is optimized for operating in austere conditions and foul weather, with resilient, diesel-powered engines and rigid spaceframe construction which contributes to a tough and rugged aircraft frequently used for reconnaissance or rescue duty. With the center engine shut down, Drekavac can maintain its cruise speed, though not at maximum speed or its service ceiling, however the aircraft is significantly quieter with the third engine off and the prop feathered, an ideal configuration for night or reconnaissance missions.

Description:

The Bukavac Amphibian Seaplane was first produced in 1941 and remains the mainstay Marquesan seaplane transport after many decades of continuous upgrades to the aircraft. Built on welding jigs by the Honore-Auguste company, Bukavac is constructed from hollow, high-strength steel tubing in a geodesic, interlocking pattern. The aircraft's hull is reinforced with fiberglass both for the portion that contacts the waterline, but also as armor in the crew compartment to protect airmen from flak and small arms fire. The frame is lightweight and rigid, skinned with a woven fabric of aluminum fiber, which is riveted in place into stressed sections. A high wing mounting three 14-cylinder, two row radial engines in aerodynamic cowlings at the rear of a 1,630 square foot wing are each of 31.5 liters displacement. The wing contains exhaust silencers which dramatically lower Bukavac's acoustic signature. Very low wing loading contributes to a very moderate 87 mile per hour takeoff and landing speed for the seaplane, which is optimized for transporting vital cargo and personnel to austere and remote locations. Bukavac's 217 mile per hour cruising speed allows for very low fuel consumption and a 4,100 mile range, while a maximum speed of nearly 270 miles per hour can be maintained for more than 2,400 miles. With more than 4,000 horsepower available, Bukavac is able to take off and land in harsh weather conditions, and can climb to its 23,000 foot service ceiling in just 21 minutes. The aircraft is capable of operating at its cruise speed albeit at a lower-than-maximum altitude with one engine shut down, decreasing the acoustic signature of the aircraft for mission in which covert operation is required, such as night deployments or rescue operations. Bukavac is capable of transitioning from water to land bases without assistance, using retractable wheels which can be deployed while moving toward a seaplane ramp. The T.329 can carry as many as 48 passengers, or just over 12 tons of cargo, making it extremely versatile, with frequent mission profiles for submarine tending, resupply under combat conditions and casualty evacuation from extremely remote islands lacking proper facilities of any kind, often employed for civilian search and rescue for shipwrecks and natural disasters. Often placed in harm's way, Bukavac seaplanes are heavily armed with four 22mm Gast cannons, each firing from dual barrels with high-explosive and armor piercing shells in short, automatic bursts.

B.421 "Kalkin"

Postby Marquesan » Wed Sep 06, 2023 4:57 am

.

[align=justify]Production Notes: [tab=25][i]The Kalkin bomber was codeveloped with the F.108 "Apsara" fighter, with work beginning in earnest with the development of the AJ.4860 turbojet, the variant that powers the Kalkin bomber is not equipped with an afterburner, while the reheated version equips the single-engine fighter. The two aircraft also share the Couronne Royale radar, which resides in Kalkin's nosecone; the MPARS.250 radar powers an X-band transceiver's cassegrain antenna with 250 kilowatts of electrical power. Along with S, E, and F-band passive receivers, the radar allows for terrain following, and for homing on ground-based radars or jamming sets with the aircraft's own radar turned off. Kalkin was the Marquesan Imperium's first night-attack jet bomber, at the time of its flight in 1949, it was designed around a nuclear payload, so an emphasis on heavy weight-rated internal hardpoints was taken, allowing the bomber to carry three 2,800 pound bombs, either conventional or nuclear.

The bomber is sixty feet long with a nearly identical overall wingspan, its broad wings cover more than 940 square feet, contributing to a very low wing loading of 50 pounds per square foot at maximum takeoff weight. Weighing just over 25,000 pounds empty, Kalkin can carry nearly six tons of fuel and just under four tons overall bombload, with a maximum takeoff weight of just over 47,000 pounds. Kalkin was designed from its inception to be carrier launched, so its wings are designed to fold outboard of the engine nacelles, giving it a folded width of only 30 feet, optimizing the aircraft for carrier operations. Two engines are mounted at the wingroot with straight intake and exhaust paths; the jets produce more than 21,400 pounds of thrust, leading to a 0.45:1 thrust to weight ratio with full tanks and a full combat load. The bomber has a 51,280 foot ceiling and climbs to altitude in just over six minutes, 30 seconds at 7,834 feet per minute. Kalkin is capable of a roughly 2,170 mile round-trip mission at its cruise speed, with five hours of fuel at 435 miles per hour. Running at military power, the bomber can sustain nearly 2 hours, 20 minutes at 590 miles per hour, covering a distance of 1,367 miles in that time.

Kalkin's automatic radar-guided bombsight is based on the Couronne Royale X-band radar, which scans the terrain in front of the aircraft and presents a readout to the pilot on his heads-up display, marking a plot point which the pilot follows to maintain level flying altitude over the terrain at a selectable height, from 30 to 300 meters above ground level. The Couronne Royale radar
