WILL THE LIONESSES WIN THE RUGBY?

Image
Team photo of The Lionesses, 2022

As The Lionesses take their flight from Zophar Bohannon International Airport to Morwall International Airport for the Women's Rugby World Cup, the question on everyone's lips is whether or not the Rwizikurans will bring home a victory or whether they will follow the same fate as The Warriors who fared even worse in the 2023 Coupe du Monde than in 2019.

We at The Rwizikuran have therefore decided to make our own prediction based on all the information we currently have available.

Ranking-wise, Rwizikuru is ranked ninth in the world: nowhere near such rugby greats as Estmere, Rizealand, Caldia, and Satavia, but above most other Coian countries, such as Maucha and Padaratha, and above major countries such as Etruria and Senria. The pessimist may point out that Rwizikuru is at the bottom of Band 2, but the optimist would argue that Rwizikuru is just one above the top country in Rank 3, the lowest band to automatically qualify to the Women's Rugby World Cup.

However, rankings alone do not tell the whole story. The Lionesses find themselves in Pool B, which on first glance seems worrying: after all, the third-best team in rugby, the Caldish Crowns, are in Pool B. However, if you go through the rankings of other countries in Pool B, Padaratha is ranked eleventh, Hennehouwe is ranked fourteenth, and Tengaria is ranked twenty-sixth, easily the worst rugby side to qualify in the Women's Rugby World Cup. With The Lionesses at ninth place, the odds are very much in our favour that we will advance to the quarter-finals, where will find ourselves either in the runner-up against the Pool A winner, or fighting against the winner of Pool A.

A quick glance at Pool A shows that the nations we are most likely to face are Estmere, ranked first; Chistovodia, ranked sixth; Cassier, ranked twelfth; Hacyinia, ranked fifteenth, and Senria, ranked seventeenth. Given that it's all but certain Estmere will advance to the quarterfinals, if we want The Lionesses to do well, we need to hope that we can face Cassier, Hacyinia, or Senria. If Estmere does well, then we need to win our pool, but if Estmere is not doing well, we need to take the second knockout spot so that we can avoid facing The Black Widows. If we somehow face the Estmerish, we predict that the Lionesses will be retreating back to their den.

However, if we win against either the Pool A winner or Pool A runner-up, The Lionesses will find themselves in the semi-finals. Given that the best nations in the other pools are Rizealand and Gaullica in Pool C, and Satavia and Garambura in Pool D, and thus likely to have survive the bloodbath that will be the quarter-finals, our best hope is to face either the Gaullicans or the Garamburans, who are ranked seventh and eighth respectively, over the Rizeans or the Satavians, who are ranked second and fourth respectively. If we face the Rizeans or the Satavians, we can at least rest assured that we have one more chance to prove ourselves in the bronze final should they do as well as expected. If we face the Gaullicans or Garamburans, it may still be an uphill battle, but we have a reasonable shot at advancing to the finals and winning the tournament.

As for the finals, if we have not faced The Black Widows by then, and assuming that they successfully advance through the knockout stages, as anyone with even half of a brain would do, the odds are not looking great at a Rwizikuran victory. However, if The Black Widows somehow get knocked out from the tournament or relegated to third place purgatory, then the odds are very favourable that we will win the Women's Rugby World Cup.

To sum up, The Rwizikuran predicts that The Lionesses will secure a spot in the quarter-finals. If we play our cards right, we will be able to breeze through the quarter-finals into the semi-finals, where there's a 50% chance we will make it to the final as opposed to the third-place match. If we make it to the final, the odds of The Lionesses bringing a trophy home depends entirely on who we're facing against. Defeating Estmere, whether at the quarter-finals or the finals will require an Arucian-level miracle.

2023 Womens Rugby World Cup - The Khutuluns seek to ride out, make a mark

September 4th, 2023
Image

The stage is set, the squads are ready, and the anticipation is building as the Hacyinian national women's rugby team, known affectionately as the "Khutuluns," gears up to make their mark on the global stage at the 2023 Women's Rugby World Cup. As the tournament's opening whistle approaches, fans and pundits alike are eager to see how this team, ranked 15th in the world, will perform against some of the world's rugby giants.

The history of women's rugby in Hacyinia is an evolving tale of passion and progress. Women's involvement in rugby dates back to the 1980s, offering an alternative avenue for women eager to participate in a contact sport after being denied opportunities to play in Kokpar matches. Organized competitions began in the mid-1990s, and the sport experienced substantial growth in the early 2000s, thanks in part to the patronage of Princess Suluhash, who became a vocal supporter of women's rugby.

Despite the sport's increasing popularity, challenges persist, such as limited funding and a less extensive domestic competition compared to men's rugby. Disorganization has been persistent with the women's squad upper management, including an embarrassing initial report made during the 2022 Summer Invictus Game that the women's squad was not traveling, and then their admirable 37-18 defeat against Rwizikuru in the Round of 16 knockout match was overshadowed by the mens 67-0 defeat by Etruria in their own Round of 16 knockout match.
Image
Team captain Sabina Rahimi giving an interview.

However, Hacyinia's women's rugby has made significant strides, and the team's performance on the global stage is an opportunity to continue their journey. New manager Amina Tumenbayar, herself a former Hacyinian international, was hired shortly after the 2022 Invictus Games and has made her presence felt with the increasing organization and hands-on management of the squad.

Hacyinia's Women's Rugby World Cup campaign has placed them in Pool A alongside Estmere, Chistovodia, Cassier, and Senria. Their goal is to leave a lasting impression on the tournament and secure automatic qualification for the 2027 edition.

Hacyinia's preparation for the Women's Rugby World Cup included three crucial warmup matches, which provided a glimpse of the team's potential. They faced off against Senria, Sativa, and Rwizikuru, each game offering valuable experience and insights for the players.

In their first warmup, Hacyinia went toe-to-toe with Senria, the 17th-ranked team in the world, narrowly losing with a score of 16-18. It was a close contest that showcased the team's spirit and determination.

Next, they crossed paths with Sativa, the fourth-ranked team globally. In a fiercely competitive match, the Khutuluns fell short with a score of 17-20, earning the respect of their formidable opponents.
In their final warmup game, Hacyinia faced Rwizikuru, the ninth-ranked team, and secured a thrilling victory with a scoreline of 14-13. This close win illustrated their ability to perform under pressure.

Captain Sabina Rahimi, a figurehead for the team, expressed her team's aspirations during a heartfelt press conference. "We don't want to be labeled as also rans. We love this sport, this is my second family. We're coming here to Estmere to show that we can play high-level rugby too. I hope for this tournament we show the world, we show Hacyinia, what we are made of and what we can do. We just want to play, and we want to win."

Their pool stage fixtures will see them face rugby powerhouses Estmere and Chistovodia, followed by encounters with Cassier and Senria. While the road ahead is undeniably challenging, the Khutuluns are determined to demonstrate their skill and determination. Hacyinia is making their intentions clear to force physical matchups with opponents, focusing on a territory based game and tactical defense.

As the 2023 Women's Rugby World Cup unfolds, all eyes will be on the Khutuluns as they embark on their quest to make history and etch their names into the annals of women's rugby. With their resilience and determination, they are poised to leave a lasting legacy, not only for Hacyinia but for the global rugby community.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting journey of the Hacyinian women's rugby team right here on AllCoiusSports or on worldsports.tv.

Cassier 22 - 3 Senria
Tries: Chloé Moreau 17' (CAS); Emily Rodriguez 37' (CAS); Siobhán Murphy (CAS) 74'
Conversions: Gabrielle Dufour (2/3) 18', 75' (CAS)
Penalties: Gabrielle Dufour (1/1) 46' (CAS); Kaori Ogata (1/4) 59' (SEN)

Sanctions: Charlotte Dupont (CAS) 13' to 23'; Noémie Baudelaire (CAS) 31' to 40+1'; Azusa Hatakeyama (SEN) 36' to 46'; Nozomi Watanabe (SEN) 46' to 56'; Sayaka Sugimoto (SEN) 59'

The Voyagers vs The Dragons was always expected to be a good match; Senria's recent positive results had meant that they were expected to perform well against their superior opponent. Unfortunately, it did not pan out that way. Senria fought hard for the first fifteen minutes; during which time they took a shot at goal after an early yellow card for Charlotte Dupont of Cassier. Unfortunately, Senria's kicking game let them down significantly; a possible nine points went amiss from poor kicks, and with their poor kicking at the front of their minds, plenty of other penalties within kicking distances were not taken, instead opting to kick for the corner. However, Senria eventually folded; Chloé Moreau went in under the posts for Cassier in the 17th minute, in a try later successfully converted by fly-half Gabrielle Dufour, whilst Emily Rodriguez would go in in the 37th minute, and finally Siobhán Murphy in the 74th minute. Poor discipline was a serious issue for both teams; Cassier copping two early yellow cards before cleaning up their act, whilst Senria's discipline was a heavy factor in their defeat. Concerningly for Senria, young star Sayaka Sugimoto (playing at Outside Centre) was shown a red card in the 59th minute for a dangerous shoulder charge, and will appear before a disciplinary committee tomorrow.

Image
Caldia 39 - 0 Rwizikuru
Tries: Affraic Ní hÓsáine 7' (CAL); Sorcha Ní Shuileabháin 19' (CAL); Duibhleamhna Ní Muraíle 36' (CAL); Brighdín Ní Cheallaighe 64' (CAL)
Conversions: Eithne Ní hAiliosa (2/4) 8', 37'
Penalties: Eithne Ní hAiliosa (5/7) 15', 27', 47', 68', 71' (CAL); Joy Makwarimba (0/3) (RWI); Chloe Rusere (0/1) (RWI)

Sanctions: Ramatjato Makgotla (RWI) 14' to 24'; Madeline Nsofwa (RWI) 26' to 36'

Rwizikuru were slow to start; unready to face Caldia. And once Affraic Ní hÓsáine had scored, just seven minutes into the game, The Crowns never looked back as the Lionesses were taught a lesson none of them will ever forget. Although Rwizikuru improved in the second half, they never had any momentum. The Crowns' ruthless kicking, strict discipline, brilliant strategic decision making and practically perfect first half meant that the poor Lionesses never stood a chance. Caldia truly dominated, and although they were pushed harder in the second half, Rwizikuru's poor kicking, decision making, and ultimately the team failing under pressure culminated in the 39-0 clean scoreline for Caldia. Anyone who bet against Caldia may now wish to reconsider.

Image
Padaratha 3 - 10 Tengaria
Tries: Zora Arece 3' (TEN)
Conversions: Teodora Asolariani (1/1) 4' (TEN)
Penalties: Teodora Asolariani (1/2) 64' (TEN); Padaratha Person (1/3) 70'; Padaratha Person (0/4)

Sanctions: Vera Tucaceva (TEN) 61' to 71'

The Eagles faced off against might Padaratha for their first ever Women's Rugby World Cup game. And whilst the match was relatively uneventful, marked only by the shocking kicking of Padaratha, Zora Arece shocked when she scored a try in the third minute; this was swiftly followed by a successful conversion. Despite taking an early lead, Padaratha dominated the match but were never able to score a try; three Padarathan tries were disallowed by the TMO upon review. After eighty minutes had passed, and the final whistle blown, Tengaria had shocked the stadium, packed with Padarathan fans - many of them living in Estmere - into silence, having won their first ever WRWC game, ranked 15 places below Padaratha. There will be serious concerns back home in Kandukur.

LIVE COMMENTARY
-60:00 Hello, Wes Hāl and Salut Bouônjour to the City of the Sleepless, Morwall! I can assure that today, all 58,000 people here will be wide awake for what promises to be a thrilling encounter between hosts, and favourites, Estmere, and world number six side Chistovodia. This year promises to be the most exciting Women's Rugby World Cup to date - and most interesting! Four sides go into the tournament as hot favourites – only a fool would bet against Estmere, mighty Rizealand and cousins Caldia seek to add another title to their collection, whilst Satavia looks for vengeance coming off the back of their loss last time out.
-30:00 Coin toss has just occurred here at the Wolfgar Godfredson Memorial Stadium – experienced campaigner Jo Russell and young fullback Goritsa Bakalova have shaken hands, tossed a coin, and Chistovodia will kick to Estmere to start the match when we get going.
-30:00 We have an all-female officiating team at this Women’s World Cup for the first time ever, and experienced Gaullican referee Sylvia Gaume will be guiding us through today’s contest; Satavian Melisse Young and Gaullican Lucille Chappuis will be running lines as the assistant referee, and our TMO for this evening is Mikayla Schoeman. This Women’s World Cup will also be the first to make use of the “bunker system”, aimed at reducing stoppage time; players can now be sent off on yellow cards, play continues and the TMO has a seven-minute period to determine whether the card should be upgraded to a red card or not.
-7:00 First, before the national anthems, the players line up and we will hear a rendition of the official Women’s Rugby World Cup anthem, World in Union. The start of WRWC 2023 is almost here ladies and gents!
-5:00 And now the national anthems - first up, the hosts with a stunning rendition of There’ll Always Be An Estmere!
-3:00 Now for Chistovodia, The Internationale. Perhaps not quite as rabble rousing, but that’s understandable considering the partisan crowd here tonight know exactly who they want to win!

FIRST HALF
1' The crowd count down from ten, the whistle goes, Liliya Kulyk kicks deep and it’s well fielded by Joan Freeman.
1' Freeman clatters into contact, makes some great post-contact meterage, which we were discussing before the match how this is a crucial part of Estmere’s game plan, and it looks like Mihthild Hafocer-Potter will get her first kick of the game shortly.
2' Ball flies back for Hafocer-Potter who’s clearance kick is good, and takes us back to the halfway mark for a Chistovodian line-out.
2' Chistovodia are taking their time here. First throws of the game are always crucial, and young Olena Stepanyuk – just eight caps to her name before tonight – will throw.
3' Chistovodia over throw it! But Kulyk’s there and they are going for it now, passing out wide
3' Estmere’s defence is on the backfoot here! Kulyk to Vojtenko, Vojtenko to Marchuk…
3' Long pass out wide from Marchuk to Hrytsaj! Looked forward but the ref is playing on! She’s got plenty of space!
4' Deveraux is tracking back but she doesn’t have the pace! Hrytsaj is in in the corner!
4' TRY: 11 - Zoya Hrytsaj (CHI)
4' Gaume wants to check the pass, she’s going upstairs to Schoeman.
4' You can hear the crowd booing as the replays are shown; Schoeman isn’t convinced it’s forward and neither is Gaume by the sounds of it.
4' And try awarded! Estmere down by five in the opening four minutes! Remarkable! Kulyk tees up the conversion. She’s no stranger to play here at the Wolfgar Godfredson Memorial Stadium as she plays her club rugby here in Estmere, one of four picked in the Chistovodia squad who do.
5' The kick sails over and Chistovodia are seven points to nil after five minutes! It’s a good start for the Vanguards, and the kick from Kulyk is on point!
5' Stunned silence here. It's like the life has been sucked out of all of Morwall tonight.
6' Scrum collapses again. I have nothing interesting to say about this because I cannot pretend to understand how the scrum works, other than eight big people push against eight other big people. It’s slightly pointless anyway, as the team with the ball normally keeps it.
5' Estmere kick now to Chistovodia. Long, sweeping kick and it’s fumbled by Rees. Knock on, and we’ll have a scrum well within the Estmerish 22. Not a good start for the Black Widows… perhaps the nerves of a home world cup are getting to them?
6' Ball goes in, and the scrum goes down. Now we go again, how tedious.
6' Scrum collapses again. I have nothing interesting to say about this because I cannot pretend to understand how the scrum works, other than eight big people push against eight other big people. It’s slightly pointless anyway, as the team with the ball normally keeps it.
7' But not this time! The ref has had enough and blames Chistovodia for collapsing the scrum a third time! The Black Widow forwards are all patting Deana Webb on the back, and rightly so. A remarkable player – just 25 years but already on her 49th cap today. Plays for the Blues in the Super League Women competition in the Asterias of course, where she was a member of the squad that won the tournament earlier this year.
7' Estmere’s penalty saves them from another sticky situation, and they kick the ball down the pitch into touch for a lineout.
8' Quickly taken, Estmere are up in the air and back down again, and the maul is now rolling!
8'…rolling into the Chistovodian 22 as well!
8' Now the ball comes out the back, and goes wide, wide from the arms of Cynthia Mutezo, on to Mihthild Hafocer-Potter at first receiver, and now Joan Freeman has it…
9' Freeman shrugs off one tackle, gets out a beautiful offload!
9' STRAIGHT INTO THE ADORING ARMS OF KADREA WADE! GLORIOUS TRY, ESTMERE BOUNCE BACK!
9' TRY: 13 - Kadrea Wade (EST)
10' WHAT. A. TRY. WHAT A RESPONSE! Very clever from Estmere; textbook example of a catch, drive, brilliant from the forwards and let the backs do the rest! Brilliantly well done by Estmere, and by Wade.
11' No problems for Hafocer-Potter, the ball sails over and we are locked neck and neck at 7-7!
12' And we are back underway! Estmere have the ball.
14' Estmere running through the phases, simple crash pods. We are up to six phases now.
16' Chistovodia are doing a great job at really slowing down the ball.
17' And now Estmere keep running through the phases. Well into the Chistovodian half, almost at the 22.
17' And an up and under kick from Hafocer-Potter, falls straight ahead of Robertson! Robertson grubbers it!
17' TRY:14 - Connie Robertson (EST)
17' Robertson gets it down! Or does she?! Yakovna is claiming she got a hand on it first?! Robertson and the Black Widows are celebrating, but the Ref isn’t convinced, and once again we’re going upstairs to Schoeman, the TMO.
17' The Satavian TMO isn’t sure but it looks like Yakovna may indeed have gotten their first.
17' And a different angle confirms her suspicions; Yakovna got their first, and the try will not stand. Chistovodia will go for a goal-line dropout now – essentially, they kick the ball from wihin their own goal line, to around half-way, where the Estmerish will get another chance to attack.
18' The ball is taken well by Deveraux, and Estmere advance into the edges of the Chistovodian 22.
19' Estmere on the fringes of the 22 now, and advancing closer and closer to the try line…
20’ Lovely phase play here, exceptional stuff
21’ Estmere being so patient here… save the try.
22’ AND NOW BUSTING THROUGH, ROBERTSON!
22’ ROBERTSON TAKEN DOWN BY PAVLOVA, BUT GETS THE BALL AWAY!
23’ AND STRAIGHT TO DEVERAUX! EXCEPTIONAL! UNDER THE POSTS, DEVERAUX!
23' SHE'S NOT A STAG, A GIRAFFE, A HOUND OR A DOLPHIN, SHE'S DEVERAUX, oh, just incredible!
23’ TRY: 15 – Brooklyn Deveraux (EST)
24’ What a try! Super! Estmere will take the lead now, but it's a tricky kick from the sideline. Hafocer-Potter lines it up...
25’ And Hafocer-Potter misses the kick. Still, Estmere lead, 12-7!
26’ Here we go again! Chistovodia in possession.
27’ And a knock on in phase play, and we're back to another scrum. See you in five minutes, no doubt!
27’ "Don't collapse, and don't push early" - stern words from Gaume. Although it seems the girls don't heed them, as the scrum has collapsed. Ahh.
28’ Brooklyn Deveraux has just rolled her eyes at Robertson as they wait for the scrum to reset itself. I can't blame them.
29’ And yet again. And the referee awards a penalty to Estmere.
30’ Estmere opt to kick. Hafocer-Potter will take it - it's a good thirty five meters out and at an angle.
31’ She strikes it well... and over! Another three points for Estmere. They'll take them where they can get them.
31’ PENALTY GOAL: 10 – Mithild Hafocer-Potter (EST)
33’ And back under way we get! Just seven minutes remaining of the first half!
34’ Estmere are now in possession courtesy of a knock on by Rocha.
35’ Oh and that is a horrible tackle! Elavarasi Iyengar is lying on the floor hands firmly over head.
35’ The ref has paused play whilst we look at this. Seems like Tamara Miroshnychenko went flying into the tackle, with no arms, and there's clear head to head contact. Ref hasn't asked the TMO to show it to her yet, though.
35’ Gaume is looking at that now and the stadium is booing and hissing as it is shown on the big screen replay. It's clear what they think. Miroshnychenko will be expecting a red here.
35’ And it is only a yellow! Huge hiss from the crowd, but Gaume clarifies it is under review. Time to test the bunker system! Chistovodia will be down to 14 people for the rest of the half - and potentially the rest of the game.
35’ Iyengar is coming off for a Head Injury Assessment - HIA - and Amiyah Lee, the centre, is coming on for her place on the wing.
36’ Unsurprisingly, Estmere opt to kick for points. Hafocer-Potter sets it up...
36’ And slots it perfectly, taking Estmere 18-7. This will be a healthy advantage going into half time.
38’ Chistovodia and Estmere are exchanging kicks. Aerial battles are very dull and yet very important.
38’ AND THE TMO CONFIRMS IT'S RED! Miroshnychenko will be off for the rest of the game! Chistovodia down to 14!
39’ And Bakalova carries it into contact, makes good progress.
40’ But Chistovodia commit an infraction at the ruck, and the ref blows the whistle for half time.

SECOND HALF
41' Hello and welcome back! Hafocer-Potter kicks and Chistovodia have the ball within their own 22.
42' Chistovodia of course now playing a woman down so it'll be interesting to see how they fair.
43' Despite Estmere's player advantage, Chistovodia are still making good gains here!
45' Chistovodia now advancing into the Estmerish 22 as Swing Low, Sweet Chariot reverberates around the Wolfgar Godfredson Memorial Stadium
46' This could be something here! Cross field kick from Liliya Kulyk!
46' INTO THE ARMS OF KUKLINA YAKOVNA! THE WINGER GETS IT DOWN, IN THE CORNER!
46’ TRY: 14 – Kuklina Yakovna (CHI)47' They're celebrating but the touch judge, Lucille Chappuis, is telling the ref to check it...
47' Try looks good from where I'm seeing it. Nothing to say that Yakovna is in touch.
47' The conversation between the two Gaullicans is, I'm sure, enlightening but unfortunately I don't speak Gaullican so I'm powerless to tell you what they are saying.
47' And now Schoeman is involved, so we're back in Estmerish, and she seems to think it's a try but the referee and touch judge disagree...
47' AND THEY RULE NO TRY??? YAKOVNA CANNOT BELIEVE IT! Nor can I - there's absolutely nothing to say that's in touch. Bizarre decision. The Chistovodians are complaining, to no avail.
47' Estmere have been very, very, very luck here.
48' Crowd seem to support the decision, funnily enough, but we will restart with a line out where Yakovna allegedly went into touch. Just listened to the two Chistovodian commentators in the box next to me and whilst I don't speak Soravian I can tell they are NOT happy...
48' We're back underway but I fear that may have very well been a game changing call. Chistovodia, with just 14 players, may have been closed out of this game by the referees. Nonetheless, the game continues.
49' Estmere have possession coming up to the halfway line.
50' But they've been penalised for coming off their feet in the ruck! Chistovodia have the penalty, and opt to kick?! That's a good 50 meters, and I don't think that's a kick that Kulyk can make.
51' Goritsa Bakalova steps up to kick. She strikes it well, it curves round, the flags go up and that is quite something!
51’ PENALTY GOAL: 15 – Goritsa Bakalova (CHI)
51' And if one thing's for sure, the Referee cannot deny them that tonight...
(Estmere substitution: 16 - Ellen Wright 1 - Deana Webb ; 17 - Hannah Copeland2 - Ada Parry ; 18 - Zira Halliche3 - Jo Russell (c))
53' We get started again as Estmere kick it to Chistovodia. Estmere take the opportunity to take off their front row.
54' And a mistake from Zara Halliche, who has just come on, and now Chistovodia have possession on the Estmerish try line!
54' This is furious stuff. Chistovodia's forwards go again, and again, and again but are seemingly unable to break the Black Widows' defence...
55' Referee awards another advantage to Chistovodia as Estmere are repeatedly offside, but still nothing coming for the Vanguards...
56' And another offside for Estmere on the try line...
56' The Vanguards go out wide...
56' BUT INTERCEPTED BY ROBERTSON! We'll come back for the advantage, but she hasn't heard the whistle and has run the full length of the pitch before realising she has to go all the way back again.
58' Chistovodia kick for the corner... they want the try, not the three points.
59' But Chistovodia lose the line out! Brilliant take from Riley Gill who clear's Estmere's lines and now we're getting a whole raft of substitutions.
(Chistovodia substitution: 16 - Gabriella Dobrescu1 - Cecilia Albu; 17 - Octavia Caramitru2 - Olena Stepanyuk; 18 - Németh Liliána3 - Khrystyna Pavlova)
(Estmere substitution: 18 - Faith Nkosi5 - Patty Hamill; 19 - Esmee Williams8 - Eden Hamilton)
59' Chistovodia change their front row and Eden Hamilton comes off. She's had a relatively anonymous game by her standards.
60' Only 20 to go; Chistovodia win their line out this time, and are in possession within the Estmerish half.
60' Chistovodia just do not give up! 14 v 15 but that's not making it any easier for Estmere!
61' And yet again Estmere come off their feet in the ruck! Chistovodia get the penalty, and the ref is reaching for her cards!
61' Off goes Riley Gill! She's copped a yellow for that latest offence - a team penalty really - and Chistovodia go for goal.
(Chistovodia substitution: 19 - Tetyana Hajduk5 - Augusta Rocha; 21 - Orysya Chumak8 - Menshikova Olegovna ; 22 - Svitlana Matviyenko9 - Vladimira Nakova)
61' Chistovodia deploy what they can of their bench - and veteran Tetyana Hajduk comes onto close this game out. Bakalova is going to take this too.
62' Oh but she pulls it to the right, and it goes dead! What an opportunity missed. She'll kick herself, as that is one she should hit in her sleep!
64' We're back underway, Estmere back in possession but also now, temporarily, limited to 14 players. They are edging towards Chistovodian territory.
64' AND A DROP GOAL ATTEMPT? What a decision to make! The ball sails in between the post, the referee likes it and Estmere pick up three points just like that!
65’ DROP GOAL: 10 - Mihthild Hafocer-Potter (EST)
65' And that will be Hafocer-Potter's last act of the game, which is a relief considering how difficult her first name is to spell.
(Estmere substitution: 21 - Florence Woods9 - Cynthia Mutezo; 22 -Millie Clarke10 - Mihthild Hafocer-Potter ; 23 - Amiyah Lee12 - Joan Freeman)
66' Estmere have such a powerful bench, and players like Millie Clarke are truly special!
67' And I have no idea what just happened? The ball went flying in more ways than I can think of, and went forwards a few times in the process, and so now everyone's confused?
67' I'm sorry, I'm struggling to articulate what I just saw... Woods came charging in, and then five seconds later the ball zigzagged across the pitch?
67' The TMO has advised the referee that the ball was knocked on by Estmere, and so now we'll restart with a scrum at about the halfway mark. Great.
69' Usual Scrumshinangians ongoing here. "You poked me!" (I'm presuming that's what they're saying to each other)
70' And the ball comes out for Chistovodia, who are on the attack again!
70' Ten minutes left, and you have to wonder whether Chistovodia are just playing for pride now...
71' Chistovodia cannot pierce the Estmerish defence though. It holds strong, unlike their scrums (seriously, the state of Estmerish scrummaging will be exploited by Satavia and Caldia ruthlessly)...
72' The ball goes aerial and now we watch the aerial display with fading interest... just pick it up and run with it!
72' And they do so, and Millie Clarke gets bundled into touch. Finally, Riley Gill is allowed to come back on, as Zoya Hrytsaj comes off for Halyna Datsenko.
(Chistovodia substitution: 23 - Halyna Datsenko11 - Zoya Hrytsaj)
73' Line out goes to plan, and coming charging in is Chistovodia. One lust hurrah. Whilst 11 points may be difficult to turn around, especially with a player down, they can hope to get within seven points and get that precious losing bonus point.
74' Chistovodia inch up to the Estmerish 22... is their something left here?
76' Oh but they lose possession, just as something was building! Estmere get the ball back!
76' They've just announced player of the match - Mihthild Hafocer-Potter - but a quick scroll through chirper finds that the player of the match isn't wearing a black jersey... nor a Chistovodian one, for that matter...
77' Estmere are simply playing this cleanly. There are winding down the clock now, and even the crowd wants to see them try something.
77' I suppose they know they aren't going to get a bonus point and so maintaining the points difference might come in handy later on, depending how things pan out in the pool.
79' Really the Vanguards have lived true to their name tonight; they have fought a desperate rear-guard action. And rear-guard actions are fought when an army is on the retreat. That sums up
Chistovodia's evening, from a rugby perspective.
80' Clock ticks into red was eighty minutes goes.
80' And Woods hoofs it out! The match is over, Estmere have won decisively but not without controversy! That's it for this evening - we'll have more on our iHweb Play channel with post-game analysis, and other content! Thank's for tuning in!

Player of the match
Mihthild Hafocer-Potter (EST)

Gaullica 14 - 10 Rizealand
Tries: Émilienne Héroux 17', 28' (GAL); Rebecca Gray 59' (RIZ)
Conversions: Guillemette Deshaies (2/2) 18', 29' (GAL); Georgia Dempsey (1/1) 60' (RIZ)
Penalties: Georgia Dempsey (1/3) 4' (RIZ); Guillemette Deshaies (0/1) (GAL); Sotiriene Gueguen (0/2) (GAL)

Sanctions: No Yellow/Red Cards issued

Gaullica and Rizealand were involved in a long arm wrestle throughout the match, started by Georgia Dempsey's early penalty goal for Rizealand. However, after 17 minutes (and one failed attempted penalty goal from Guillemette Deshaies of Gaullica), Rizealand relinquished the lead and did not reclaim it again for the match. Gaullica's Émilienne Héroux crashed over the try line for a second time in her player of the match performance to extend Gaullica's lead. Despite a late try and hopes of a comeback for Rizealand, they were unable to overcome the advantage Gaullica had. A frustrating match for Rizealand, whilst a hard-fought win for Gaullica.

Conversions: Azmaran Person 27' (AZM)
Penalties: Azmaran Person (3/5) 31', 47', 59 (AZM); Etrurian Person (1/2) 11'

You f-ers (I don't know if I can swear on NS forums so I'm not risking it haha) didn't write rosters so I'm not going to write you a description until you get a roster up. You don't deserve it.

Satavia 28 - 27 Garambura
Tries: Brooke Gordon 16' (STV); Zanélé Mangéna 24' (GAR); Prisque-Galloise Ballouhey 27' (GAR); Wagichugu Waitherero 59' (STV); Marielle Manaudou 61', 69' (GAR); Mackenzie Carter 80+3' (STV)
Conversions: Hazel Woods (2/3) 17', 60' (STV); Annie Rouzet (2/4) 25', 28'
Penalties: Annie Rouzet (1/2) 32' (GAR); Hazel Woods (1/3) 44' (STV); Isebel White (2/2) 50', 58' (STV)

Sanctions: Jennifer Barrett (STV) 23' to 33'

It was an incredibly tussle between Satavia and Garambura decided only at the last minute with a heroic try from substitute fullback Mackenzie Carter to seal the deal for Satavia. The game started well for Satavia with an earlier try from Brooke Gordon; but this was swiftly followed by chaos when key play maker and scrum-half Jennifer Barrett was sent off for a high tackle on Cécilia Pelletier. With Satavia a player down, Garambura exploited this to the best of their abilities; two tries followed swiftly, both of which were knocked over by Annie Rouzet to take the lead, followed by a penalty also successfully taken. At half time, Satavia were losing 7-17. After half time, however, the tide turned after Satavia got five penalties in quick succession, all of which they opted to kick for goal - scoring three of those, to be only one point behind. Substitute Wagichugu Waitherero scored a brilliant solo try in the 59th minute, and Satavia took the lead for the first time since the 27th minute. However, the lead was shot lived - Garambura's Wonder Woman Marielle Manaudou scored two tries within eight minutes and meant Garambura lead 27-23 with just ten minutes to go. With the clock firmly in the red, Satavia's patience around the try line paid off after Garambura's stout defence crept onside, giving Satavia an advantage and an opportunity for a cross field kick, delivered expertly by Hazel Woods into the waiting arms of Mackenzie Carter, who scored the try.

Maucha 27 - 0 Vanhar
Tries:
Conversions:
Penalties: Maucha Person (3/3) 14', 27', 44'
Drop Goals: Maucha Person (6/8) 51', 54', 56', 59', 64', 73'

Sanctions: No Yellow/Red Cards issued

Same applies to you, you tools, post a roster and then maybe I'll write something for you. And just because you won this one, Maucha, doesn't mean you'll win again. The roster debuff is severe, I assure you. Although I will say that whoever Maucha Person is needs a medal because that's an insane amount of drop goals (I'm 99% sure that's a record). Good accuracy too, hats off to her.

Estmere 10 - 28 Hacyinia
Tries: Maisy Morris 14' (EST); Mariam Batu 45' (HAC); Ayisha Dashdorj 48' (HAC); Ayana Nergui 55', 64' (HAC); Aigerim Jangar 66' (HAC)
Conversions: Mihthild Hafocer-Potter (1/1) 15' (EST); Nazima Javadi (3/3) 46', 49', 56' (HAC); Shakila Badi (1/1) 67' (HAC)
Penalties: Millie Clarke (1/3) 31' (EST); Nazima Javadi (0/2) (HAC)

Sanctions: Patty Hamill (EST) 35'; Zira Halliche (EST) 43'

An incredible match that saw The Black Widows truly exposed for the first time ever. The match - now being dubbed the "Morwall Miracle" - saw the complete and utter collapse of the Estmerish team immediately after half time; the first half was relatively uneventful, with Estmere leading 10-0 at half time. However, Estmere were down to 14 players after Hamil's red card, and were further reduced to 13 after Zira Halliche's red in the 43rd minute. Both were for dangerous clear outs in the ruck. Hacyinia struck almost immediately after the second red, in what is being described as ten minutes of terror - Batu went under the sticks in the 45th minute, followed by Dashdorj in the 48th, and then Blues player Nergui twice in the 55th and 64th minutes. Jangar would steal an extra bonus point for Haycinia in the 66th minute with the game's final try. Down to 13 players, the Black Widows struggled immensely - the loss of tighthead sub Zira Halliche saw Estmere obliged to bring starting tighthead Jo Russell back onto the field, and lose Maisy Morris on the wing - who incidentally scored Estmere's only try. It is an immense day for Hacyinian rugby.

Chistovodia 10 - 0 Cassier
Tries: Goritsa Bakalova 36' (CHI); Kuklina Yakovna 60' (CHI)
Conversions: Liliya Kulyk (0/2) (CHI)
Penalties: Liliya Kulyk (0/3) (CHI); Gabrielle Dufour (0/4) (CAS)

Sanctions: No Yellow/Red Cards given

One of the day's less eventful games; marred by poor kicking, Chistovodia eventually beat Cassier after a long struggle. Bakalova scored just before half time, whilst Yakovna's try in the 60th minute powered Chistovodia towards 10 points.

Image
Caldia 3 - 7 Hennehouwe
Tries: Franni van der Wilk 41' (HEN)
Conversions: Marana Paternoster (1/1) 42' (HEN)
Penalties: Eithne Ní hAiliosa (1/4) 4' (CAL); Lieke van Kessel (0/3) (HEN)

Sanctions: No Yellow/Red Cards given

Remarkably, this titanic upset was not even the most notable game of the day! The crowns came in with confidence; opting just four minutes in to kick for goal rather than the corner. Even after Hennehouwe's Franni van der Wilk scored immediately after the break, Caldia seemed sure they would win, and opted not to kick for goal but rather repeatedly go for the try line. Even with 10 minutes left, Caldia were continuing to go for the corner - despite having two opportunities to knock over three points and therefore win the game. A serious lesson in game planning has been learned, no doubt. It seems the Crowns were unable to find a head to rest upon today.

Image
Rwizikuru 36 - 12 Padaratha
Tries: Anatswanashe Kumbula 1' (RWI); Farisai Olonga 15' (RWI); Madeline Nsofwa 38' (RWI); Rumbi Sithole 53' (RWI)
Conversions: Joy Makwarimba (2/4) 2', 39' (RWI)
Penalties: Padarathan McRightYourRosterKrug (4/5) 12', 27', 47', 71'; Joy Makwarimba (4/7) 22', 57', 64', 77'

Sanctions: No Yellow/Red Cards given

Rwizikuru cruised to a curb stomping bonus-point victory of Padaratha as expected; the Lionesses scored the vast majority of their points in the first half, before being content to simply keep the scoreline ticking in the second half. Padaratha were able to exploit penalties to their advantage, and even scored try that was promptly disallowed by TMO as the player was offside. The Lionesses will be happy with the response the team has had after their defeat by Caldia. The most notable moment in the game occurred when Anatswanashe Kumbula scored the first, incredibly try just 14 seconds after kick off. The try set the tone for the rest of the game, and Rwizikuru will be happy with their performance.
