Disclaimer:
This thread is for debating and discussing the
sport called "football" (more commonly known as
American football, gridiron, or handegg) in the
United States of America played at the collegiate
level. For discussion of the sport called "soccer" in
North America that's called "football" elsewhere in
the world, try here.
Whooooooooo yeah. Here we are, T-Minus 20 days until the start of the College Football Season. Who's ready? Are you? Are YOU RRRREEEEEAAADDDDYYYYYYYYYY? This is going to be one for the book as after this season we will see some big shifts in the College Football Landscape.

Week 0 kicks things off with some high octane games. Navy takes on Notre Dame, U. Texas El Paso takes on Jacksonville State. Florida International takes on Louisiana Tech.

Week 1 starts things off for the majority of the Power 5 Conferences with the Florida Gators of the SEC taking on the Utah Utes of the soon to be leaving the Pac-12. The Aflac Kickoff is on September 1st when Louisville takes on Georgia Tech. South Alabama goes down to the Bayou to visit Tulane University in New Orleans. The Defending National Champions kick off their attempted 3-peat year on September 2nd when they take on U. Tennessee Martin. And, the game I am waiting for is going to happen on September 3rd with the Camping World Kickoff, when the Tigers of Louisiana State University takes on the Seminoles of Florida State University.

Lots of news in the offseason. Some things to keep in mind as the season goes along:
  1. The Pac-12's Implosion. As of the posting of his thread, 8 teams have slated that they are going to abandon the Conference by the end of the 2023-2024 season and will be going to either the Big 10 or the Big 12.
  2. Texas and Oklahoma are in their last year in the Big 10 as they prepare to join the SouthEastern Conference next season.
  3. Georgia looks to continue their dominant performance and will search for the first 3-Peat in College Football since Minnesota did it with the 1934, 1935, and 1936 seasons.
  4. This is slated to be the last year before the College Football Playoff Expansion to 12 teams for the 2024 Season.

1. The Pac-12, in my opinion, is officially done. They will not exist past the 2024 season, if they last to the end of this current season. I expect the final 4 teams to announce their departure to one of the other Conferences before the middle of this season.

2. I'm unsure as to how Texas and Oklahoma will do this season. I expect they will finish strong to try and prove that they are worthy of joining the SouthEastern Conference. They might wind up with a 8-4 or 9-3 record to finish out their final season in the Big-10.

3. With Georgia returning many key starters to the team this season. I expect them to make a serious run to the Playoffs, once again. Do I think that they will 3-Peat? Possibly. But I won't put money on that, at all. I'll just let the chips fall where they may this season.

4. This will be a cut-throat season in the push for the last 4-Team Playoff. It will be interesting to see what happens. Will it be dominated by Power Five schools? Or will a Group of Five School sneak into the mix for only the second time in the history of the CFP? We will see.

What's your take, college football fans? What bold predictions do you have for this season? Will the Georgia Bulldogs Three-Peat? Will Alabama finally take back the crown? With Ohio State shock everyone? Or will some other unknown upstart team come in out of nowhere and lift the FBS National Championship Trophy high into the air on Monday, January 8th, 2024? Who do you have?

Alabama is currently in Step 1 of the 8 step "Day of Reckoning" plan for retaking Constantinople college football. Step 1 is "Secure the keys" which means reaffirming a logistical grasp on the Southeastern conference and NCAA (read: recruiting, free agency, offseason stuff, etc). The next steps will be commencing within a matter of weeks.

As for Alabama's QB situation, can't say much other than you can't take a cake out of the oven too early. Also Tyler Buchner is a lot smaller in size compared to Jalen Milroe and Ty Simpson. Make of that what you will.

Fun Fact: Generation Z (or "Zoomers") are the last generation to grow up with college football conferences being (largely) geographically correct.

I am not looking forward to the Huskers posting another losing season. We'll see if they can score a touchdown in their week 0 game against Minnesota; I doubt it but you never know.

Electronic Arts (EA) has anounced that they still plan on releasing the EA Sports NCAA Football game in the Summer of 2024, even with the Pending Litigation.

Via: Sports Illustrated
Amid some recent lawsuits over licensing issues and concerns over a possible delay, EA Sports says it still plans to go ahead with the original plan to release its highly anticipated College Football video game next summer, according to On3 Sports.

"We're incredibly excited to bring back an authentic college football experience for fans and athletes that have shown such passion for the franchise, and we're looking forward to delivering it in Summer 2024," a spokesman for EA said.

The Brandr Group, which negotiates licensing deals for over 50 Division I schools, filed a lawsuit against EA earlier this year. EA reportedly contacted Brandr the year prior to talk over plans to offer NIL deals for athletes, but in the spring, EA elected to work with OneTeam Partners on group bargaining instead.

Brandr argued that it should be allowed to negotiate contracts for athletes at the universities that it represents, and claimed that EA's choice to offer the choice to do a deal that doesn't include Brandr was wrongful interference.

EA then filed a motion to dismiss Brandr's lawsuit, which legal analysts speculated would in all likelihood not stall the release of the game.

EA last issued its popular college football video game a decade ago, back in 2013, after which the company announced that it was discontinuing the game.

That decision followed a court ruling that forced EA Sports to pay compensation to athletes who had previously been included in the product but were not paid.

Then, after the creation of the new NIL rules two years ago, EA went public by announcing that the game would return at some point in the future.

That point in the future is getting closer with every day, and EA believes everything is moving right on schedule.

Alabama outside the AP preseason top 3 for the first time since 2009. Also first time they received zero first place votes since 2015. Surely those two years have nothing in common.

With number 2, I sure do hope we can get around 8-4 or 9-3. Sooners, especially Venables, can't afford another season like last. Getting hit by the door on our way out will only make the fanbase and boosters used to constant winning more riled up. Also, the final (rest in peace) Bedlam game is going to be lorded over whoever loses.

Also the Pac-4 is probably going to be toxic as hell.

The PAC-4 will most likely only last a season before it's disolved and the remaining teams are engulfed by other Conferences.

In terms of #3 the UGAs schedule is such a fucking cakewalk that they are bound to get a 3peat. The only really competitive games will probably be the Florida and Tennessee games.

Hopefully they’ll get knocked out by Michigan or OSU.

Jacksonville State (alma mater) won their first ever game as an FBS school. Granted they did everything they could to lose, as is the case with most RichRod teams, but they won nonetheless. Good for them.

Bama's got you bro. I don't usually guarantee things, but I making one now. UGA and Bama meet in the SEC Championship and Bama wins by at least 4 TDs. If I'm wrong, I'll suicide by mod leave NS forever. So it's a win-win situation for me no matter what.

But I agree it's likely UGA makes the CFP but gets knocked out early. The weak schedule will have a lot to do with that.

A fun week! Here's hoping Mass keeps it up. And hopefully I'll be more active here than I was last year, lol.

So I was looking through, and we have three Double Ranked games.

One is a double FBS Ranked matchup, which is:
Louisiana State U. (5) vs Florida State (8)

The other games are Ranked Teams, but one is FBS and one is FCS. Those are:
Kansas State (16 - FBS) vs Southeast Missouri State (11 - FCS)

and the BATTLE OF THE 22's!
Ole Miss (22 - FBS) vs Mercer (22 - FCS)

LSU-FSU will definitely be worth my full attention Sunday night. As for the others...I don't know enough about SEMO's brand of football to know whether watching them against the Wildcats will be worth it.

I do recall from last year though that Mercer is a bit inconsistent. However, so is Lane Kiffin. If they have a great day and the QB Carousel at Ole Miss does not have such a great day, that may be something? But definitely not something I'd watch from the outset unless I happened to be a fan of the Bears or Rebels. Maybe 4Q late if it's close, same with SEMO-KSU.

Tonight the Cornhuskers begin another 12 games of suffering.

I can't wait, even though I'll probably spend most of the season wondering why I bother once again.
