Welcome to the roster thread of World Cup 94. Here each team may list their roster for the forthcoming tournament.
Please do not post here until you have been confirmed in the signup list (latest version here). Please do not reserve a post or make a placeholder. Any substantial editing of your roster should be done via adding a new post, not editing the old one, as rosters will be marked whenever is convenient for the hosts and edits may be missed.
Note for BoF entrants: you do need to post your roster here to this thread, too, as we will not be marking the BoF thread.
You just used the word 'roster' about five times, what does it mean?
A roster is a teamsheet. At its absolute most basic, it's a list of 11 names, although usually your opponents will need a little more than that to go on. Here is some of the basic info you should include:
- Your team nickname
- Your team (11 players, plus reserves; squads are normally 23-26 players in size, but during World Cup qualifying bigger pools of players may be used)
- Your team manager
- Where your team will play its home matches (during World Cup qualifying, your team will play 10 games at home; this could all be at one stadium or at multiple stadiums around your country)
- Your RP permissions and style modifier
- A logo
- Player bios: their histories, tendencies, pictures
- Your team kit
- Full management staff
- Details about your country for visiting fans and players
- Any other information you want your opponents to be aware of
Please try to keep rosters of manageable length and to make sure all the key information will be obvious to your opponents. The main function of a roster is to provide them with the details so they can RP successfully against you.
RP permissions
NSS is a collaborative roleplaying exercise. Because of the nature of sport, it is generally necessary for your opponents to be able to write about your players in order for them to RP. Because of this you may see other players RP about your players, in a way that wouldn't be permitted in different RP contexts; absolute exclusive control of your characters isn't really possible in an NSS RP setting. Your RP permissions govern how free other players are to respond to match results or write about your team in general. The box should look like this:
- Code: Select all
My opponent, if they RP first, may do the following:
Godmod scoring events: Yes/No
RP injuries to my players: Yes/No
Godmod injuries to my players: Yes/No
Hand out yellow cards to my players: Yes/No
Hand out red cards to my players: Yes/No
Godmod other events: Yes/No
Style modifier:
"Godmod" refers to extremely bizarre and unusual events. This is a subjective distinction, of course -- stranger things have happened in real life football than in any NSS roleplays -- but generally it is the difference between a ball bouncing in off the post and bouncing in off a passing seagull, between a player being injured by a sliding tackle and a player being injured by slipping on a banana skin, between words being spoken and magical curses being invoked.
You may include other specific permissions should you wish. However, the hosts will not enforce an RP permission denying other players the right to choose your goalscorers, unless your roster contains a specific explanation of why you have chosen this permission.
Style modifier
Your style modifier is a number between -5 and 5, indicating how attacking your team is. -5 is very defensive; such teams might see more results like 1-0, 0-0, or 1-2. +5 is very attacking; such teams might see more results like 4-3, 3-3, or 4-5. Your style modifier does not affect your likelihood of winning or margin of victory.
You may change your team's style modifier but must confirm this by TGing the hosts prior to cutoff.
Please make sure your style modifier is clearly visible, preferably by posting it on the first or last line of your roster.
