The two neighboring countries would have a long and complex history, often of conflict and war, as Aureumterra's domain includes a large part of the ancient Kingdom of Sombreland. Neverthless, in the modern day, Sombreland is seen is a partner against the spread of revolutionary ideologies, although not seen as an ally as with other nearby powers. Sombreland's relatively underdeveloped status would encourage Aureumterra to possibly see it as potential to economically subjugate.

Meridon and Aureumterra have often found themselves fall on opposing sides of wider conflicts, both hot and cold, and as a result have had a somewhat cold relationship in the recent past. However, there is little active animosity against the each other nation individually, and the strains in relations have often come as a result of wider global politics rather than targeted opposition to one another. As such, Aureumterra sees Meridon as an important business partner, and has not ruled out pursuing closer ties if mutual goals emerge, especially given currently shifting geopolitics regarding Neo-Korea.

With the islands of Norfolk being at Aureumterra’s doorstep in the Inner Sea, the Empire has often held ambition in influencing, subjugating, or even conquering the islands throughout history, particularly the island closest to its coast. Relations have been tense and fluctuated throughout the decades, depending on the monarch in Aureumterra and their ambitions in the Inner Sea region. Relations have strained since the enthronement of Frederik IV due to his ambitions on securing an Aureumterran dominated Inner Sea with uncontested naval supremacy in the area.
