Tina Turner Dies At 83

Postby Farnhamia » Wed May 24, 2023 1:02 pm

https://www.bbc.com/news/live/entertain ... s-65700718

"I'm so saddened by the passing of my wonderful friend Tina Turner," Rolling Stones star Sir Mick Jagger has said.

Jagger, who duetted with Turner during Live Aid back in 1985, shared his condolences on Instagram.

He added that Turner was "inspiring, warm, funny and generous".

"She helped me so much when I was young and I will never forget her."

She outlived ike.
The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion … but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do.

She was immensely talented and it's sad to see her go. It looks like she's been suffering for years now and hopefully she can find some peace.

Fun fact: an airport used to play Tina Turner music instead of using bird distress calls to scare away birds and the music worked better than the distress calls.

But yes, a legend is gone.

I didn't even know she was dealing with health issues, though it probably shouldn't shock me, since she was in her 80s.

An absolute legend. RIP

I mean, anyone currently living today outlived Eisenhower.

Rest in peace Tina.

Fun fact, apparently, "Simply The Best" was originally sung by Bonnue Tyler before Tina Turner made it popular. I can't imagine Bonnie doing a song like Simply the Best. Tina was simply the best at it, but I did like the version where she sang it with Jimmy Barnes. As someone on the radio said, Heaven will no longer be quiet. She's doing the Nutbush in Heaven now

The NRL had "Simply the Best" and "What you get is what you see" as its official songs in the 1990's, with Tina Turner herself singing them at the grand final, and now their honouring her. Apparently, she's responsible for popularising the game outside of Australia

There was a discussion a while ago with the German ex who felt that Nutbush City Limits would be the song they'd play when she died. I on the other hand was surprised she pulled out a kind of deep cut Tina Turner song and it would something like Simply the Best, What's Love Got to Do With It, or Private Dancer. And of course Rollin' Down the River.

In triumph she has sent me news reports from Deutschland that indicate in fact they lead and/or close with Nutbush City Limits while a summary glance shows the ones I indicated. So the question is, where are you and what songs did they use to celebrate her long career?

I have almost reached the regrettable conclusion that the Negro's great stumbling block in the stride toward freedom is not the White Citizen's Council-er or the Ku Klux Klanner, but the white moderate who is more devoted to "order" than to justice; who prefers a negative peace which is the absence of tension to a positive peace which is the presence of justice; who constantly says "I agree with you in the goal you seek, but I can't agree with your methods of direct action;" who paternalistically feels he can set the timetable for another man's freedom; who lives by the myth of time and who constantly advises the Negro to wait until a "more convenient season." -MLK Jr.
