A Free Republic, Finally Free (IC | Closed | Finished)

Postby Independent Republic of Boldonia » Wed May 17, 2023 4:13 am

General Secretary's Palace Presidential Residence
Brasilis, Free Republic of Brasilistan

In Spanish: "And it's official, the Free Republic of Brasilistan is now an official member of the United Nations. This nation has..."

"come a long way..." President Hernan Bosque mutters to himself as he looks out his living room window at the rapidly developing skyline of Brasilis. He stares for a bit at the skyline, not but one year ago all that could be seen below the hill his residence stood on was slum after slum for mile. Now construction cranes litter the skyline and the construction of new freeways could be seen snaking around the city.

*knock knock* "Mr. President, the Russian is here."
"The one from Boldonia?"
"Yes Mr. President."
"Let her in."

Boldonian Secretary of State Alina Ivanovich enters the room and sits on the couch. The conversation switches to English.

Ivanovich: "Good evening Mr. President. Please, don't bother speaking Russian. After so many years in the tropics I know more English than my native language."
Bosque: "Good evening Madame Secretary, you wanted to meet me."
Ivanovich: "Why aren't you in New York? Shouldn't you be speaking to the representatives of the world on behalf of your nation?"

President Bosque looks at the TV as the Prime Minister speaks to the UN.

Bosque: "I trust Silvia, one of the few who had the balls to speak up against the communists and fascists. Speaking is his strong suit, not mine."
Ivanovich: "You know there's a reason that we asked you to run, sure he can sing his tune all he wants. But he never served directly in the Ministry of War, you did. Anyways what's done is done, too late to fly to New York. But if I may ask, what now? The Security Corps is leaving, we're going to leave you all alone. What's next for Brasilistan, a party?"

President Bosque hesitates for a while before be says a single word.
"Si."

Message From The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Free Republic of Brasilistan

If you are receiving this message you have been recommended by the Boldonian Department of State as a potential diplomatic friend to the Free Republic of Brasilistan. A representative and entourage are invited to attend a party at the Presidential Residence in the City of Brasilis, in which your representative will have the opportunity to negotiate with the Free Republic of Brasilistan concerning a potential friendship. Should you not care about the Free Republic of Brasilistan, this is also a good opportunity to meet with the several representatives from the Independent Republic of Boldonia that will be attending.

The Presidential Residence, formerly the General Secretary's Palace or Weston's Palace, is located on the slopes of a mountain overlooking the Brasilis skyline. It has a quite large lobby and dining room, as well as several other rooms for you to gather in. While primarily this party will be held in the residence, several parties will be occurring around the nation including the City of Brasilis which we will not stop any of your representatives from attending. We do however ask that you follow these rules:

1. All weapons are prohibited. The Brasilistani Presidential Guard and Independent Republic of Boldonia Security Corps will provide more than adequate security.
2. If you intend to leave the compound, alert security and do not leave without either Brasilistani or Boldonian escort.
3. Combat is prohibited. Should you engage in combat with any attendees you will either be shot by the Brasilistani Presidential Guard or arrested by the Independent Republic of Boldonia Security Corps.
4. Do not bring alcohol or drugs, alcoholic beverages will be provided for free at the compound or can be purchased at one of the may bars in the city.
5. Any drunk, drugged, or belligerent person will be escorted back to the airport where upon they will be returned to their origin nation.
6. We must make it clear that it may not be entirely safe to send the head of state or head of government. There is still currently an insurgency in the West Peninsula, which although it is under control may have some effect on the City of Brasilis.

Presidential Residence
Brasilis, Free Republic of Brasilistan

After arriving to the airport, the foreign representatives are brought onto a convoy of humvees which take them to the Presidential Residence. Once at the circle drive in front of them they exit in front of a checkpoint where they pass through metal detectors. In front of them is a tan Greek Revival Mansion with white pillars. Scaffolding lines the front walls, although it appears that construction and renovation has ceased for the party in the meantime.

Once they step inside the styling radically shifts to a more modern style. They are in a large lobby with a large window covering the wall on the otherwise, overlooking the city skyline with construction cranes littered all over it. It is here most of the representatives and Brasilistanis are, standing around champagne or wine in hand conversing with each other. President of the Free Republic of Brasilistan enters the room from the right side and yells out, "The other foreigners have arrived!" The Boldonians and Brasilistani all smile and wave or nod their head. However the American, German, and British turn their back and continue their conversation almost refusing to acknowledge them.

IC: Enzo Giuseppe looked around him, inwardly laughing at the arrogance of the American, German, and British diplomats' refusal to acknowledge the arrival of him and other diplomats, he makes a conscious effort to greet those staffing the event rather than the aloof diplomats he is not yet accustomed to. At the relatively young age of 19 Enzo is aware that many may not take his cause seriously, but, as the Socillian parliament had voted for him to attend, with the blessing of his father King Alfonso Giuseppe, he had a sense of self belief, rather than arrogance, he felt that this meeting would not only provide a useful starting point for his diplomatic career, but that he could also truly impact the lives of ordinary Brasilistani and Boldonian citizens.

Suddenly, he is swept away from his thoughts as he sees two aides, of a similar age to himself, a Brasilistani and a Boldonian, presumably working for two of the various diplomats, keep smiling at him. Intrigued he heads their way, avoiding the patronizing gazes of many of the diplomats present, and introduces himself, 'Hi there, I'm Lorenzo Giuseppe, but most people call me Enzo, I'm a diplomat for FRS it is a pleasure to meet the two of you, and I must say what an absolutely spectacular view we have'

This is my first time attempting some genuine Forum RP, I know this isn't technically diplomacy yet, but I thought it would give some context surrounding the character I am Roleplaying as, and the direction I intend to go in for the RP, I hope this was OK, and any feedback would be appreciated

"Yes, beautiful view. Much better than the piles of ruins months ago." Says the Brasilistani as both the Boldonian and Brasilistani laugh. "Emilio Noguera, civilian engineer temporarily embedded in the 1st Engineer Division of the Brasilistani Armed Forces. Not a diplomat, neither is my Boldonian friend here, but pleased to make your acquaintance nonetheless."

The Boldonian chimes in. "If you want to talk diplomacy you should speak to Minister of Foreign Affairs Alejo Gonzalez, all we're here for is negotiating engineering rights and whatnot. Very boring indeed, anyway have fun speaking to Gonzalez."

The Boldonian and Brasilistani turn back to face each other and continue their conversation. "Anyway you were saying something about the bridge in Playa Alegre?"
"Yes, was wondering if Division 1 could provide some funds..."

Enzo Looks rather lost, he was hoping that the engineers would provide useful [strikethrough] diplomatic allies[/strikethrough] , although he thinks to himself that he will invite them to the sekpolis palace -after all FRS's engineering sector was in dire need of rejuvenation, furthermore his father, King Alfonso Giuseppe I, grizzled war veteran, believed the military engineer corps also needed some life kicked into them.

He wanders off into the large foyer area, a man on a mission, when he bumps into Gonzalez, who was at that precise moment talking to an unknown female, who looked visibly annoyed.

Enzo introduces himself, this time more formally

"Whatever you say Mr. High and Mighty." says Minister Gonzalez as the prince walked off.

After changing to his military uniform, the prince spots a group of three people in dress uniforms, each from a different nation. One male wearing a German Bundeswehr uniforms, a female wearing what seems to be a mix of a US Marine and US Army uniform (probably Boldonian), and another wearing an old Soviet era uniform but with the red colors swapped out for a more yellow color. On his approach the prince overhears a bit of their conversation.
German: "...quite expensive though, the only reason that the Boldonians can adopt it is because they have billions, trillions even, of money just sitting around."
Brasilistani: "Well then lieutenant, was the cost worth it."
Boldonian: "Definitely, probably even won us our war with you..."

"Greetings, Mr Moralez," says Ambassador Frederickson. He walks up to Edgardo Moralez, and shakes his hand with one hand, whilst holding a large, shiny briefcase in the other.
"I'd like to talk to you about something. We see your country is recovering quite nicely, and we'd like to invest."

"Hello there Ambassador, as you seem to already know I am Minister of Economics Edgardo Moralez. We would be happy to accept your investment, but we will need more specific details concerning the investment. If you would like to follow me we can negotiate these details... without prying eyes."
The Minister walks into a closet where a metal door is behind. After unlocking it using a key in his pocket he walks down a short flight of stairs and then walks into a medium sized storage room. Assuming the Ambassador follows he speaks to him in a whispered tone.
"You're not from here, so I can trust you with this. Right now our main issue is debt and interest, today I calculated the debt to be around 2 Trillion US, and it's only increasing. All we need is a large grant that isn't a loan, so we can at least survive the final weeks of occupation. These foreigners keep piling on debt onto us, and we're starting to run into problems because of it. What do you say?"

"Well, you're in luck," says the ambassador, "We could instead have Marinian companies invest in your country's services, infrastructure and key industries. Not only will it help build ties, it comes at little to no costs to your government. In return for creating a profitable business venture, they, of course, will improve infrastructure as to increase their operational capacity. This should then lead to a multiplier effect, which will bring real progress to your nation. If you give us a bit of information about your economy, we can finish the deal by tonight."

He takes a glass, drinks some of it, and puts it down.
"Now of course, we could also negotiate with your debtors to help reduce the terms on these loans. And naturally, we can give you the grant you desire, though we'd prefer to try the first option, as it will be cheaper and more effective. But, if you want a grant, how much money would you potentially need?"

"Now if you were just going to give us a grant it would be around 5 Trillion USD, God knows how much that is in Brasilistani Rubles, but that's kind of expensive and our nations only just met. Now our GDP is rapidly growing, last time I checked it was around 83.2 Billion give or take, but most of that comes from infrastructure and rebuilding. Once everything is repaired we won't have much else to give. Most of the oil southeast of the island has dried up, and given the amount of napalm that was dropped during both wars agriculture quality has only gotten worse, and we are basically tied to Boldonia's economy. Almost everything is imported from Boldonia, which itself imports everything from the United States. So right now, we have nothing besides what the foreigners give us."

"Our GDP is only 9.96 trillion. However, we could build up industries in your nation which do not require much manufacturing - say light manufacturing and potentially IT services. Also, who are you mainly in debt to?"

"Our debt is mainly to three nations, the Independent Republic of Boldonia of course, the United States, and Germany. Breaking it down further most of the debt is either to construction firms or arms manufacturers. The military has tried to cut back on everything, but the Boldonians want to build up Brasilistan's military so it has a puppet military that it can use to keep the Boldonian flag clean of any wars. Now your suggestion of building up industry intrigues me, but you can't just be doing this out of the kindness of your heart right, what's the catch?"

Presidential Residence

The, Neibeskiyan delegation was in the Lobby. They expected someone to greet them, but still took the time to get there Proposals & Documents ready.

Neibeskiya, was known for intervening in Newly formed States, there were many examples, Atano, Zanistria etc. But this time, Neibeskiya was here to influence not control, They knew exactly what to do. Get the maximum amount of Profitable Deals, and influence Brasilistan & Boldonia in hopes of Positive Relations.

Upon entering the Neibeskiyan delegate overhears a conversation between a Boldonian military general and a Brasilistani general.

"Oh those are the Neibeskiyans, we were at war with them because the United States claimed to us that they were supporting Bernskia. Turns out that was a lie, because the Americans didn't show up."
"So what, you just left because the US wasn't going to bomb the country for you?"
"They could have at least send them some weapons, but no nothing. Oh well, doesn't matter anyway. We only joined the war because we thought it would help US interests in the area, The Federation of Bernskia was really only a side project. Had the US explicitly stated they weren't supporting Bernskia we would have left them to rot."

A smile slowly spread across the Ambassador's face. He drawled. "Well...That the investment comes from Marinian corporations, of course, and that your country may "promote" Marinian companies. Aside from that, there's no real catch, and your country will gain vital industries and infrastructure that far outlast the presence of our corporations. Of course, if the Americans and Germans are here, we could negotiate with them."

"Pshh.. Habs, you see those Boldonians, I overheard there conversation, they were talking about the War." whispered Gen to Habs who was busy getting some files arranged. "War ? Oh yes the War, we are wining, the Germans have retreated, the F.A & F.F have fallen, the P.F is in our Support. We will win after defeating the SRoM, surely !" Siad an Excited Habs.

"Not That Idiot ! Those Boldonians were talking about the fact that they were forced to withdraw as the U.S don't officially send support." said Gen while looking at Kotlen for his response.

"The U.S would have never entered the war. They are a coward, huh... Invading random places for there own interests & calling it Freedom. Pure psychopaths." replied Kotlen while sipping a cup of tea.

Representative Bernatchez eventually arrived at the Presidential Residence. Although, being an Ambassador already on the island, he found himself with his own transportation. The Diplomat road a rented motorcycle to residence and parked it at a nearby parking lot, as not to block the side walk.

Admittedly, they didn't help much during the way, all they did was fuel up the jets and try to gain arial superiority that and uh... Wait? Was there somthing else to the plan? Oh, thats right, they sent Paratroopers to that one fortress. Wasn't there objectives to secure and airport for an ARMY THAT NEVER CAME?!

"oh crap." He slightly silently blurted. "we forgot the paratroopers!" They where probably fine though, so he got that thought out of his head and decided to join the rest of the party. Walking his way over to the Two men who he, for the most part, Recognized. The Boldonian and Brasilistani men.

"No, don't worry. I'm sorry if my colleague made it sound more exploitative than it actually is. We have a very robust corporate law system, so we can handle this well. And believe me, if you end up with any complaint, I'll make sure the cabinet sees it." said Henry Georgeson calmly. He had a rich, yet refined voice, almost melodious, one that would put a bishop or king to shame. "The Ambassador is just in one of his moods where he thinks he is an awful lot more powerful than he really is. He's getting too bold. Too, ah ... inspired. But I must say that I mostly in principle agree with the deal proposed."

On his journey to the resident an Independent Republic of Boldonia Security Corps M1161 starts to follow him with its emergency lights on, but after a while it mysteriously turns its lights back off and drives off. Upon arriving, General Richard Wilson of the Independent Republic of Boldonia Security Corps Division 1 runs up to Representative Bernatchez.
"Jesus Christ you know how to make an entrance! You're lucky I made a last minute call to get that Growler off you before the Brasilistanis sent a hind after you! Any way head inside, you're late but better late than having military helicopters obliterating you."

Rep. Bernatchez: Sorry about that boys, didn't mean to steer up trouble! I found myself in need of some quick transportation, and I figured with my Motorcycle license, I said "Why not go all the way?" Well, If you excuse me, I got a party to attend to.

Representative Bernatchez adjusted his tie and entered the presidential residence.

The civil servant dissappears for 30 mimutes to a different
room. The furious clicking of a typewriter can be hears in the background. He then returns, and opens his shiny back briefcase, taking out a stack of stapled paper roughly 15 pages long. "Here it is, sir. The finalised agreement."
The cover read "Marinian trade relations with the free Republic of Brasillistan."
He put it down on the table, and pulled out a fountain pen.
"All yours to sign, sir."
