NationStates' Silent Majority

Throughout my time in the general tab, I have noticed that there is a large difference between the conversations and the polls when related to political issues. I have noticed that the polls show that a majority of people on NationStates (often around the range of 60%-75%) vote more left-leaning on IRL political issues. However, the discussions are much more saturated with people arguing for more right-leaning issues and solutions.

Why is the left-leaning majority less active on forms than the right-leaning minority?

The silent majority implies a not-so-silent minority. It's a simple matter of a handful of loud right wingers dominating a conversation. People are more inclined to refute something they don't agree with, than echo something they do.

Honestly, its not so much the majority is silent, but rather, we have a very loud, vocal, right wing minority.

I don't see how discussions are more saturated with right-wing individuals. A typical NSG debate involves like 2-3 right-wingers against 5-6 left-wing people.

Leftists can be a contentious and divided bunch, but I imagine that because there's more of them sometimes left-leaning people will go to post and then see that somebody's already made the point they were going to make. Don't think this is all that deep.

This, pretty much. I am more likely to write out a long response post to something I disagree with than to something I fully agree with. If everyone in the thread agree with each other and I agree with them, why bother posting?

You can see this play out pretty clearly in the Ukraine war discussion threads, where it's quiet most of the time, then a pro-Russian conspiracy theorist wanders in and suddenly the thread erupts in activity as everyone argues against them.

Exactly, i do see a lot of left wings from different school of thoughts. From my experience, most right wing speakers in Nationstates seems americans to me, as they usually have american flags and the like, and that's why i believe they're a minority as left wingers are from many different countries on this game. I never saw an european right winger on NS

It's a pretty sad sign of how far towards crazytown the Republican Party has pushed the Overton Window when "letting people get divorced" and "convenient voting" are considered "left-wing" opinions.

I think summertime posters have just historically been more memorable, and often (but not always) been associated with more extremist ideologies.
