NS Decides the 2024 US Election

Postby Difinbelk » Wed Apr 26, 2023 7:34 pm

Hello all! I'm resurrecting an old thread because I've found new ways to make it work. Without further ado, welcome to:
2024 Presidential Election Simulator
Rules:
  • Puppets' votes will be discounted in the final total if discovered.
  • We'll be going state-by-state (and D.C.), with each poll open for three days. State order (below) is randomized.
  • I'm running the election with the Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, and Green parties (not candidates, as party nominees are (obv) still undeclared currently). Libs/Greens are included to have multiparty variety.
  • If the poll ends in a tie between 2 or more parties, I'll go into a runoff between those parties rather than proceeding to the next state.
  • Nebraska and Maine will be allotted using the non-FPTP system they use irl.
  • I'll log the results here and keep a 270toWin page running as the election progresses.
  • Regretfully, you may only vote for one party per poll. Sorry to anybody who likes two or more parties (I feel ya).
  • Libertarian and Green votes will be lumped together into a single "minor party" category until the election is concluded, as 270toWin only allows the use of 3 parties. I'll explain when the election ends.
  • Congressional runoffs (see below) will be run after we finish all the states, and I'll run those polls for one day each.
Kentucky
New York
Georgia
Nevada
Nebraska (2L,1G)
Utah
Kansas
West Virginia
Montana
South Carolina
Vermont
New Hampshire
Pennsylvania
North Dakota
Colorado
Louisiana
Arizona
Virginia
D.C.
Washington
Maine (1D,1L)
Mississippi
Idaho
Texas
Minnesota
Alabama
Maryland
Michigan
Tennessee
Alaska
New Mexico
Wisconsin
Ohio
Illinois
Missouri
South Dakota
Massachusetts
Hawaii
California
North Carolina
Rhode Island
Connecticut

New Jersey
Iowa
Arkansas
Oregon
Wyoming
Florida

This thread is meant to discuss the polls, campaign for a party, or results.
Current Electoral map here (Lib/Green(/R+D) EVs here)

Update: I'm also simulating the Congressional election.
I'm using the Huntington-Hill method to determine allotment. I'll plug the vote counts and number of representatives into a calculator, using the state's number of reps in "size of congress" and using four states to represent the four parties at play here. Half values indicate close apportionment values that I'll eventually put to a runoff.
Current House: here (up to CA tab)
Current Senate: here (up to CA tab)
House: here
Senate: here
House: here
Senate: here

I'm defining a seat as being a runoff if the decimal part of the allotment for the most popular party is less than double the decimal for the next most popular party(ies), and where rounding would result in the wrong number of representatives. (eg. Dem: 13.4, GOP: 12.1, Lib: 3.7, Green: 1.9 -> LG runoff. Dem: 13.5, GOP: 12.2, Lib: 3.5, Green: 1.9 -> DLG runoff; 4 rep state: Dem: 0.2, GOP: 1.5, Lib: 1.6, Green: 0.7 -> 0D, 1R, 1L, 1G, RLG runoff)

New York: DRLG Sen.
Georgia: 2 DRL Sen.
Nevada: DRG Rep.
Utah: DG Rep.
Kansas: DG Rep.
West Virginia: DG Rep. and Sen.
South Carolina: DRLG Rep and RLG Sen.
Vermont: LG Rep.
Pennsylvania: RLG Rep. and LG Sen.
North Dakota: RLG Rep. and DG. Sen.
Arizona: RL Sen
Virginia: DLG Sen
Maine: 2 DLG Reps and 2 DLG Sens
Mississippi: DG Rep
Idaho: 2 DLG Reps and 2 DLG Sens
Texas: LG Rep
Minnesota: 2 DRLG Reps, 1 DLG Rep
Maryland: 1 DR Rep
Michigan: 1 DL Rep
Tennessee: 2 DRLG Reps, 2 DRL Sens
Alaska: 1 LG Rep
New Mexico: 1 DRG Sen
Wisconsin 2 DLG Sens
Ohio: 1 DLG Rep, 2 DLG Sens
Illinois: 1 DR Rep
Missouri: 1 RL Sen
South Dakota: 1 RLG Rep, 2 DLG Sens
Hawaii: 1 DRLG Rep+Sen
California: 2 DLG Sens
North Carolina: 2 RLG Reps and Sens

Can't wait to see the argument between the people who are playing for fun and the people who are playing like it's real. I'm still not sure what I will do!

Yeah I'm almost reluctant to allow campaigning ITT, but idrk. As long as it doesn't get the thread locked we're good.

Oh, I'm sorry!
By the way, I notice you say "Puppets will be blocked if discovered". Are you able to do that? If I'm able to prevent a specific nation from voting, I would love to do that in my thread!

I don't actually know if you can block nations from voting (maybe by banning them from the region?), but the wording of that's been clarified to "I'm gonna ignore you lol".

The polls have closed in Kentucky, and there may yet be room for anti-establishment politics: The Libertarians have won!
Democratic Party: 2 votes
Republican Party: 5 votes
Libertarian Party: 6 votes
Green Party: 3 votes

Off to New York!

The map you're using doesn't allow more than three parties, so what will you do if a Green party candidate wins?

The plan once the election is over is to use the "tossup" option to indicate Green states, but that system'd be really confusing to look at while the election's still actively ongoing, so I'm denoting both Lib and Green states with the 3rd party button.

That explanation might've been confusing, but hopefully it'll make more sense when the election is over (if the Greens even win anywhere...)

It's still up in the air... much like Fremont over on your poll, the Democrats are making a comeback in this poll. It'll definitely be one of them, though, and I guess I need to get runoff procedure prepped in that case.

Joe Manchin is rolling in his grave with this poll

#LeftVirginia
Remember, Bobby, what became of him
REMEMBER!
How he indulged a whim
REMEMBER!
Remember how he made a mockery
He shunned the crockery
Off to the dockery
