This is a question more than it is a call for discussion, although i welcome discussion nonetheless as Nationstates, at it very core, is a forum for debate.

In the American Civil War discussion, a statement was put forward made by one of the participants in the thread

Correct, I'd also be fine with a Trump dictatorship, as would Republican voters.

And it got me thinking... how true is this? So i made this thread.

So i pose a question primarily to the right leaning Americans of this website, though all are welcome here to give their opinion.

Do you support the abolishment of democracy in the United States to make way for a non-democratic government?

Frankly, an authoritarian US would almost certainly throw the country into a state of civil war not unlike the Syrian Civil War, with multiple factions and armed groups fighting against each other and being influenced by foreign powers. However, I personally do not believe American democracy is the best form of government for the country, and I myself believe that a meritocratic autocracy (if it could be achieved) would be far better than democracy. Sadly, the establishment of such a state is little more than a pipedream, and therefore any movement towards establishing a dictatorship in the US would, in my opinion, simply bring misery and destruction to the populace.

Idealistically, I don't care whether a government is democratic or autocratic, as long as personal liberty, social services, due process, and that kind of jazz is how its supposed to be.

Practically, I support democracy, because modern democracy and tyrannical resource-economy dictatorship are opposite cliffs of the instability canyon, and democracy is the cliff that usually gives a shit about the people's quality of life.

The thing about dictatorships is the dictators aren't dependent on the continued political support of the masses to stay in power. What "should be" is irrelevant when you don't actually have a say in who the leader is.

Freedom to talk to others on the internet exists because of freedom of speech. The two can not be separated. Without freedom of speech, freedom of religion can not exist either.

So if you don’t care about freedom of speech, you are saying that you also don’t care about freedom of religion or the freedom to talk to others on the internet.

So having an authoritarian dictatorship in the US is just one step away from you and your people being persecuted
