Recently Rosa Parks's race was left out of a Floridian history book.
The fact that she was a black madame is a very important part of her story, removing it makes Ms. Rosa look like a jerk who wouldn't get off the bus.
To me, history, although subjective, is still meant to be along a line. If I don't mention the Holocaust in a World War Two documentary, I'm leaving out a very important chunk of historical context.
For example, Rosa Parks was an African-American woman who stood up against the bigoted laws in 1960s America, she sat at the front of the bus instead of the back (which is where African-Americans were legally allowed to sit). Although seemingly inconsequential, this one action would forever change America.
Now without the race, Rosa Parks was asked to sit at the back of the bus. She refused, despite her lack of compliance she is still harrold as a hero in modern society.
Without race, Ms. Rosa Parks just looks like a jerk who wouldn't get out of her seat instead of someone standing up against a rudimentary, bigoted system.
My question, how long will it be before we ban talking about the Holocaust? Slavery? Italian Racial Laws? Unit 731?
The atrocities that must be learned so then we don't repeat them, when will they be gone? And how soon?
