Tired of having a neighbour who refuses to vote the US-aligned Democratic Party into power, the United States decided to pull off Operation Free Cigars, the conquest of the island republic of Kanilion, where the Labour Party maintained a fourth successive term with 78% of tallied votes.

While Kanilion has been threatened many times in the past, European and Russian supplies has allowed the Kanilion Defence Force (KDF) to maintain a strong presence. In order to reduce their profile towards the US, Kanilion's navy consists of only a few frigates, has no long-ranged missile systems, and an air force of only 120 short-range MiG-29 fighters.

News of the impending invasion has reached local shores, and the KDF is being mobilized right now. A call to nations for help has been sounded, as the country braces itself for its darkest hour... and no turning back as the United States of America does only what the United States of America wants.

Kanilion Defence Forces barracks and underground bases begin to house Riomler forces for the impending invasion. They are given what spare weapons and ammunition the local industries can offer, and the best food to keep up their morale.

The US Navy begin flights over sovereign Kanilion airspace to commence aerial recon of Kanilion facilities and defences. Kanilion anti-aircraft batteries manage to shoot down three F-18s and four F-4s over the course of a day. In response, the US Navy launch 40 Tomahawk missiles towards Kanilion infrastructure, killing 200 civilians and damaging power and water supplies to the capital city. One stray missile struck an elementary school, increasing casualties by a further 30 children.

The US Propaganda Services announced that the elementary school was the site of an AA battery, and that Kanilion forces were using children as human shields. On the contrary, they struck the village school which was far sited from any sensitive military sites, and thus was void of any military presence. Kanilion press and media was subject to a forced blackout by US-controlled sites and US-aligned media, thus Kanilion news outlets were unable to report any casualties and losses except from independent reporters through loopholes.

A South African convoy landed last night, unloading 500 volunteers and Ratel vehicles. A Chinese convoy escorted by a destroyer was blocked by US destroyers, but a warning shot landed on one of the supply ships. The Chinese fleet refused to return fire for fear of escalation, and the US Navy reported that the explosion was the cause of a Chinese weapon misfiring, thus making the Chinese fleet the aggressor with a malfunctioning weapon.

The Kanilian Intelligence Agency ( K.I.A ) is now working hard to determine a possible cause of war with occupation as the end goal.

Mr Matzerati announces the passing of the Serperatist Support program by the National Assembly, partially due to the school bombing.
A shipment of 40 Leopard II tanks, 60 PHZ 2000 artillery and 50 NASAMS air defence systems equipped with 1.000 AIM-9 Sidewinder missiles. This along with 100 trainers.

The government announces that this shimpent can increase by 10 times if the Kanilions accept the following conditions.

NORAD responds by firing at Riomlian planes leaving Kanilion using their Arleigh Burke-class destroyers, while elements of the 101st Airborne prepares for deployment. Riomlian strikes were effective, cutting parts of the advance supply chain and perhaps delaying the invasion by hours or a day.

The Kanilion Government thanks Mr Matzerati for the proposal, and while the first two points can be readily accepted, the Republic already enjoys greater freedoms than most other nations, with their populace voting on an issue every week, and with the issue's trial period is over, will undergo a final vote to be embedded in law. Mr Matzerati advises against this operation, as the Americans could see this as an attack, wich could lead to them using far more destructive weapons, like WMD's.

The Kanilion volunteer militia, numbering 20,000 men across the entire island, has now been switched from their combat roles into one of vehicle maintenance and engineering. Already possessing some mechanical skill, they are now put to the task of assigning and organising the massive material support provided by foreign nations.

United States special forces, notably members of DELTA, has infiltrated and damaged a radio communications center located at the west side of the island. The perpetuators were half-caught, as six men were seen leaving and the resulting firefight ended up with 2 dead and 2 captured. Kanilion casualties were 5 infantrymen dead and 3 wounded during the assault, and 1 Kanilion Special Group(KSG) wounded during the pursuit.

The Republic of Kanilion pleads with Riomler to avoid deploying allied forces in preemptive strikes against the superpower. Despite the massive support, Kanilion's position is still on a knife's edge. Instead, additional focus would be placed in letting in foreign aid in terms of food and material to support the local and international forces.
