Well we do need a few other states. The Ottoman Empire, Chile, Argentina, and Italy are the most major ones.

I would say whatever you want really

The world is your oyster here

I don't believe we expect a comparatively minor power like Zanzibar to follow bleeding historical accuracy, just take yourself in whatever direction you'd like, provided acknowledging any ramifications your actions may have

NS Name: Arvenia
Nation Name: Federal Empire of Brazil (Portuguese: Império Federal do Brasil)
Capital: Brasília
Territory: Brazil
Population: 17,438,434
Official Language: Portuguese
Recognized Languages: Various
Flag: Same as IRL
National Anthem: "Hino Nacional Brasileiro"

Head of State: Empress Isabel I (de jure) and Prince Gaston of Orléans (de facto)
HoS Picture: N/A
Head of Government: Prime Minister Afonso Celso de Assis Figueiredo (PC)
HoG Picture: N/A
Legislature Name: Imperial Congress (Senate and National Assembly)
Party in Power: Conservative Party (PC)

Major Domestic Issues: Republican uprising, economic inequality and racism
Major Foreign Issues: Uruguay, Argentina and Amazonas

GDP: $11,000,000,000
Currency: Brazilian real (R$)
Economic policy Overview: Brazil currently maintains a free market economy, which might attribute to the presence of economic inequality in the country. The country heavily benefits from both exports and economic growth. Agriculture co-exists with industrialization, as railways are being developed across Brazil. The biggest industries in Brazil are textiles, shoes, chemicals, cement, lumber, iron ore, steel, tin, tobacco, coffee, soybeans, sugar and cotton.

Military Information: The Brazilian military consists of the Imperial Brazilian Army (Exército Imperial) and the Imperial Brazilian Navy (Armada Imperial). The Navy has five battleships, while both it and the Army have been filled with professional officers following meritocratic reforms.

Alliances: Brazil has good relations with Haiti and Portugal
Diplomatic Policy: Mostly hellbent on reintegrating Uruguay and conquering all of the Amazonas region.

History Changes (Subject to review and approval by OP and Co-OP):
In the mid-to-late 1880s, Prince Gaston of Orléans, the husband of Princess Isabel, became more interested in the Brazilian monarchy following disappointment in Isabel's unwillingness to want to pursue a more intellectual life through study that he wished for and he feared that the monarchy would die out. As a result, he began to use his influence as Isabel's husband to plan for his eventual reign over Brazil when Emperor Pedro II would either pass away or get killed by republican rebels. In 1887, Pedro II was successfully assassinated by rebels and Isabel is made Princess Imperial of Brazil. However, due to her apathy towards leadership, Gaston began to take her responsibilities and become the official leader of Brazil, which allows him to actively suppress republican groups and convince the people that the monarchy is worth remaining in power. On the other hand, he also introduced numerous political reforms that pleased the people of Brazil and increased support for the monarchy. Since then, republican sentiment lingers on as open rebellion is coming, even though the monarchy remains strong as of 1904.

Is Persia available? I'd like to play as a Timurid empire that survived if possible.

True freedom can only be where there is no exploitation and oppression of one person by another; where there is not unemployment, and where a person is not living in fear of losing his job, his home and his bread. Only in such a society personal and any other freedom can exist for real and not on paper.” -J. V. STALIN

I see. I don't think having the Timurids survive would be a massive disruption to the timeline, but I'll play as a Republic then.

The Timurid Empire fell in 1507 and would impact the activities of the Ottoman Turks, Russia, and the British Empire over those 300 years, at the very least. IRL at this point, the Qajar Dynasty rules Japan.

Nationstates Name: Orostan
Nation Name: Republic of Iran
Capital: Tehran
Territory: Iran
Population: 9,950,000 (1900 Census)
Official Language: Farsi
Recognized Languages: Azerbaijani, limited other minority language rights
Flag: State Flag of the Republic of IRan
National Anthem (optional): None at this time

Head of State: Prime Minister Mirza Nasrullah Khan

Head of Government: Prime Minister Mirza Nasrullah Khan
HoG Picture (If different from HoS):
Legislature Name: Iranian Majlis (National Consultative Assembly)
Party in Power (If bicameral note who controls each): Independent (Multiple parties in government)

Major Domestic Issues: Lack of advanced industry, political factionalism
Major Foreign Issues: Foreign imperialism, remaining independent

GDP: 18,905,000,000
Currency: Iranian Qiran
Economic policy Overview: After the coup that ended the Qajar dynasty in 1852, Prime Minister Mirza Taghi Khan-e Farahani who was formerly the Shah's Prime Minister began a program of destroying the power of the noble land owner classes and aiding the merchant class. The largest example of this was land reform which saw almost all large landholders in Iran expropriated and their land put up for sale or given to the people who farmed it. The Republic of Iran is dominated by the interests created by the first Prime Minister's economic reforms and the base of the current government's support comes form city merchants and small landholders or farmers. Iran has followed a policy of denying foreign powers monopolies or concessions and investing into Iran's development through state owned and vertically integrated industrial concerns instead. These concerns form their own interest in the government and are either fiercely protectionist along with the strata of industrial capitalists that has developed alongside them or lobby for freer trade with foreign powers to supply Iran with advanced technologies it does not have domestic equivalents for yet. While the state and merchant, now capitalist, class has gained enormously from the Republic the people have gained less and there is a larger strata of proletarians who are less pleased with the iron grip of the merchant class on the government.

Military Information:

The condition of the army is generally very good, and the troops which are kept around as a standing army are generally the highest quality that Iran can muster. They are well equipped and well supported by artillery, mortars, and maxim guns imported from the UK or United States. Mandatory three year conscription exists for all males of 18 years of age, and a proportion of them are required to remain as reservists and attend two week long training exercises once every year for the next ten years. The military is generally well paid and being an officer in the standing army is considered prestigious. In large part the Army is built up to fight either Russia or the United Kingdom and is divided into groups, one of which is further split into two divisions to defend the Caucuses and Central Asia. The other army group is responsible for security on the Ottoman border and Persian Gulf region. The military occupies nearly half the national budget.

The Army of the Republic of Iran consists of;

50,000 full time professional soldiers
1,000,000 Reservists
A multitude of warehouses throughout Iran housing weapons and equipment for reservists and the standing army.

The Navy of the Republic of Iran is less well equipped, but consists of;

-Caspian Flotilla: Three corvettes, one protected cruiser.
-Persian Gulf Fleet: Seven corvettes, three light cruisers, and one battleship currently under construction that is a derivative of the British Majestic Class.

Alliances:
No official relations. Good relations with China, tense relations with the Ottoman Empire, Russia, and United Kingdom. Relations with the UK are better than with other great powers, but since the 1852 ousting of the Qajars Britain has lost influence in the internal affairs of Iran.

Diplomatic Policy:
Iran wants to make alliances with states that will support its independence, particularly against Russia and the United Kingdom which it still views as a threat. This is why Iran places a high priority on its relations with Germany, France, China, and the United States.

History Changes (Subject to review and approval by OP and Co-OP):

In 1852 reformist Chief Minister of Iran Mirza Taghi Khan-e Farahani, who is popularly known as Amir Kabir, becomes suspicious of the young Shah of Iran's intentions after his mother influenced him to demote Amir Kabir to only Chief of the Army, and on the 27th of December he organized a palace coup against the Shah which was opposed by the royal family's personal guards who repelled the troops Amir Kabir was able to muster for the coup. Rather than allow the Shah to potentially escape, he had the royal palace with the Shah still inside it bombarded by artillery. His men entered the building after the bombardment and ensured no members of the royal family survived.

Amir Kabir would rule the "State of Iran" as essentially a dictator until 1885, where he passed away at the age of 78. The parliament which had been organized as an advisory and quasi-republican body was left in charge and after a brief period of political struggle declared a republic and hosted elections with universal suffrage for all males. Mirza Nasrullah Khan, Minister of Foreign Affairs, was elected as the first Prime Minister of Iran and has governed the country for the 18 years since the 1886 elections. Despite his election three times to a five year term and successful continuation of the economic policies Amir Kabir pioneered, the government has become more divided under him and the emergence of open political parties which are permitted in the 1886 constitution. The growing industrial working class of Iran has also run into conflict with the merchant class that monopolizes most seats in the Parliament and government ministries, and for the first time in Iran's history labor unions are forming.

So the Ottoman Empire and Britain have a military alliance dating back to 1876, following the enforcement of the Treaty of San Stefano by the allied force of Russia and Germany. In addition, France is a isolated revolutionary Communard state.

I see. I’ll do basically anything that gets me friends that can help keep out foreign empires. I will probably align with Russia or Russia’s enemies depending on the geopolitical tides. I’m thinking with China and Japan allied against the Russians I should be anti-Russia at the moment.

Honestly, the way I intend on running Russia is not a particularly expansionist way. I'm only seeking conflict with Japan because of its alliance with Britain. British foreign policy is built around containing Russian influence and the combination of the Royal Navy and Turkish control of the Dardanelles does a nice job of it in Europe. Japan extends that containment to the Pacific. So aside from keeping Japan from becoming a base for the Royal Navy to blockade my ports, I don't really have any external ambitions.

Would have been nice to see some changes to the Brazilian Navy but oh well. Accepted.

Well, IC I don’t really know that and assume Russia will eventually act the way it historically has towards Iran. Is my application accepted?

Head of State: Sultan Abdul Hamid II
HoS Picture: Image
Head of Government: Prime Minister Mehmed Ferid Pasha (Ottoman Conservative Party)
HoG Picture (If different from HoS): Prime Minister Mehmed Ferid Pasha
Legislature Name: The Imperial Parliament (A unicameral body containing 300 seats with each province being fairly represented. Note that all people of all ethnicities and religions are allowed to run for office.)
Party in Power (If bicameral note who controls each): Ottoman Conservative Party (Secular Center-right to rightwing party- 180 seats); Opposition Parties: The Ottoman Democratic Union (Centrist Party- 80 seats), The Ottoman Liberal Democratic Party (Center-left Party- 39 Seats), The Ottoman Socialist Party (Far-left Party- 1 seat)

Major Domestic Issues: The Issues plaguing the Ottoman Empire domestically is the rising instability in Bosnia and a minor corruption problem in Libya.
Major Foreign Issues: Growing border dispute with Austro-Hungary over Bosnia and Russia's push for Bulgarian independence

GDP: 24 billion USD (1904)
Currency: Ottoman Lira
Economic policy Overview: The Ottoman Empire has a free market economy with some government intervention. In 1852, the Ottoman Empire began its Industrial Revolution in order to catch up with rest of Europe. As a result of this economic expansion, the Ottoman economy began to boom with a brief period between 1885-1888 were the economy slipped into a recession. In June 1888, the economy began growing again and by the start of the 20th century, the Ottoman Empire was thriving economically with one of the largest economies in the world.

Military Information: Unlike IRL, the Ottoman military was not neglected and was well funded enabling it to be modernized. The Ottoman Navy due to a powerful Ottoman economy was able to maintain its strength into the modern era with 1 dreadnoughts, 1 battlecruisers, 4 pre-dreadnought battleships, 3 coastal defense ships, 6 light cruisers, 6 protected cruisers, 25 destroyers, 2 submarines, 30 minelayers and 4 armored gunships (Avnillah-class ironclad). The Imperial Ottoman Army is 750,000 soldiers on active duty and another 500,000 in reserve. All units have been armed with mainly modern British arms with some outdated Turkish arms in the reserve units. The reasoning behind a large military is the looming threats from the Austrians and the Russians.

Alliances: The Ottoman Empire has a military and economic alliance with the United Kingdom to help contain Austria and Russia.
Diplomatic Policy: The Ottomans maintain good relations with Japan, Italy, Germany, China, the United States, Brazil and the United Kingdom. Its relations with Iran are tense but friendly with the Ottomans recognizing Iran's independence. Its relations with Austro-Hungary is overtly hostile due to the Austrian's illegal annexation of Bosnia and the relationship with Russia is cold but cordial.

History Changes (Subject to review and approval by OP and Co-OP): The Ottoman Constitution of 1876 was never overturned with key changes was the turning of the Ottoman Empire into a constitutional monarchy similar to the United Kingdom but with unicameral Parliament, anti-discrimination laws on the bases of race, ethnicity, religion, gender (male or female), and place of origin; a ban on slavery. The Industrial Revolution occurred in the Ottoman Empire leading to economic prosperity for the Ottoman people. Like the UK, the Constitution of 1876 puts the power that the sultan had into the hands of a prime minister but unlike the prime minister, the Ottoman people have a choice in the matter. Due to these various economic and social reforms, the Ottoman Empire isn't collapsing and is prospering.

So how did you avoid any fallout from the Treaty of San Stefano and the Russo-Turkish War? Where are you getting dreadnoughts and battlecruisers from? Where are you getting all the money and resources and expertise for all those ships? How are you maintaining cordial relations with the two nations (Russia and Germany) that strong-armed you into losing the Balkans?
