Hunters: New Blood(OOC/Closed)

Postby Theyra » Thu Jan 26, 2023 12:39 pm

Hunters: New Blood

Image

The supernatural, vampires, werewolves, ghosts, and more. Everyone knows about them in some way, and most consider them myths and legends, nothing more. For how could these beings exist in modern times without anyone knowing they exist? Let alone having actually seen or met one and having people actually believe it. There has to be a logical explanation for the sightings and is all made up.

Well, for one family, the Russells, mainly their children. They will discover not just that the supernatural exists but their family's role in it after they learn that their parents have gone missing. Gathering in their parents' home at the request of their uncle after being questioned by the police and soon discover their parents' legacy and embark on a quest to not only save their parents but take up their mantle of being hunters of the supernatural. Awakening what powers lie in their blood and traveling America to hunt those that seek harm to humanity and to save it from those that seek to dominate them.

It will not be an easy task, and the road will be a long one. But they say that a family that fights together stays together. So starts their mission, and time will tell if they will prove to be up to the task. For both new and old threats are on the horizon and one, in particular, has plans for the Russells.

Overview

Hello and welcome to the rp. The rp is set in 2010, and the rp is about a family of former hunters that are forced into action after the family's parents go missing. After learning about it and being questioned by the police about it. The family's uncle asks them to come to their parents' house to discuss things. There they will learn about their family's secret, that they are hunters of the supernatural. But not just any hunters but ones gifted with abilities to give them an edge against the supernatural. Soon they discover the reason for their parents' going missing and not only start to rescue them but, in the process, become hunters in their own right and start hunting down hostile supernaturals and protect humanity from those supernaturals that seek to either harm or dominate humans. Traveling America while doing so.

Now while there will be an overarching plot and story arcs for it. There will be a monster of the week style arcs in between the story arcs. Which I will be open to suggestions if anyone happens to have an idea they want to do.

So with the focus being on a family of hunters, that means there will be limited slots. I am thinking at the moment about 3 main family chars and 2 cousins. However, due to story reasons. The cousins would have been brought up with the main family after said aunt and uncle were killed in mysterious circumstances. So a big household growing up and the cousins would be older than the main family kids. As for ages, the children should be. Generally, somewhere in their twenties, no one above thirty. Also, the kids grew up in Columbus, Nebraska, and this is where their parents' home is located.

Also, the main family parents would be Richard and Joan, and the cousins from Richard's older sister, Emily, and her husband, Owen. There is a third, Russell, the younger brother of Richard and Emily. Victor, who has kids but is divorced and said kids are busy being hunters in Europe. Victor is a retired hunter who had little contact with Richard and his family due to a falling out they had after a hunt years ago.

For the ages of the chars, the main family should be 20-25, cousins 26-29 for reference.

Abilities

For what abilities the Russells family has, here is it. Enhanced strength, enhanced agility/speed/reflexes, enhanced durability, enhanced healing, resistance to foreign influence, and innate fighting skills. Now, how strong these abilities are, here it is.

For how strong a Russells is? One can lift an adult human up easily and throw them. They can hold their own against Vampires and others of similar range.

How durable? They can handle being hit by a car with minor injuries and are resistant to blunt-force trauma. They are, however, not bulletproof or resistant to bladed weapons though they can take hits that would hinder normal humans.

How fast? About beyond the speed/agility and reflexes of a normal human, and can move at great speeds but cannot outrun a car. An example of how fast the reflexed and speed, a Russell can step on a bear trap and react fast enough and be fast enough not to get caught in it.

How good is their healing? One can heal all minor injuries in an instant, and it takes more time to heal the more severe the injury. The healing has its limits and can not regrow severed limbs. Bearing the most extreme of injuries like a bullet to the brain, decapitation, or severed limbs. The body will heal itself at a fast rate, and it just takes time. Also, enhanced healing does nothing with disease resistance, so the Russells are still affected by normal diseases.

Resistance to foreign influence? Meaning that a Russell is resistant to mind control, suggestion, and other mind-altering effects and drugs. Their resistance is very high though it is possible for a powerful drug or user to influence or controls a Russell. It is rare that this happens.

Innate fighting skills? Each Russell has innate fighting skills in both armed and unarmed combat. But though the skills are innate, they require little training to get used to and can rely on instincts to fight. Though in regards to armed combat, weapons such as swords or maces and other melee weapons is what a Russell can use instinctively. This does not extend to range weapons such as firearms though it has not stopped others like the Russells from using guns in their hunts.

But the Russells' main family made efforts to stop their children and Emily's children from getting their abilities so they could be normal and live a normal life. A method only a few know of, and thus their abilities are dormant. But they will be activated soon into the rp.

So that is it and if anyone has any questions, just say something. Also, I am looking for a co-op so if you are interested. Again just say something. Plus, I will be reserving a cousin spot so I will be accepting 1 more cousin spot.

The name's James. James Usari. Well, my name is not actually James Usari, so don't bother actually looking it up, but it'll do for now.

Dormant enough for the kids not to realize anything, though a more athletic kid might feel something.

Okay, just something else I forgot to list. So I listed the ages for the main family and cousins chars. So there will not confusion if someone is older than they should be.

Btw Theyra, can you give us an overview of the parents' personalities and whatnot? What was growing up with them like? Maybe a touch of what sort of heritage we're working with as well?

Name: Allison Russell
Gender: Female
Age: 25
Appearance:
Image

Position in Family: Eldest child
Personality: Allison is proud of her achievements, protective of her chosen friends, and somewhat ambivalent towards her family, which she regards as not having been her own choice. She tries desperately to be fiercely independent, sometimes landing her into more trouble than strictly necessary, but she accepts little help from family or strangers. With friends and colleagues, she is close, however, and able to open up, while she closes down rapidly with her family.
Skills: Logging and forestry knowledge, axe wielding, some basic medical knowledge
Equipment: Pickup truck, axe, chains, chainsaw
Background: Allison Russell was always expected to 'do well', within the expectation of her parents. In a sense, Allison was an experiment for the Russells: how do you raise a child not to be a Hunter? And how do you keep them from realising their natural potential. Allison wanted to play baseball, but her parents feared that that would expose her abilities, so she had to learn the violin instead. Any sport was off the table, and instead, she had to devote herself to pasttimes that trained, or rather tested, her patience. There was also a gendered aspect to this: dancing was a possibility, for instance, but video games were for boys, and therefore she could only play with her little brothers or her cousins. And, of course, no violent video games. Nothing with guns, the same went for movies.

Upon finishing high school, Allison went on to study medicine. She had wanted to go into history, but that was 'not practical' according to her parents, which left her with a choice between law, medicine or business. Medicine it was, much to Joan's pride, but it took only two years of medical school for Allison to decide that it was not for her. Too precise, too finicky, too much at stake. So, after two years, she dropped out. She used her savings to travel around America, trying to find herself for two years. She traveled both coasts, seeking both a place to settle and some work that would suit her. She considered the army, but since women were not allowed to serve in front line positions she declined. Instead, she settled on the next-most dangerous profession: logging. She was met with some apprehension at first, but much to the surprise of her colleagues (and some measure, herself) she built up the muscle mass really quickly, and managed to outperform her colleagues in a few months. She only had one accident, a year in, where here leg was curshed by a falling tree. While doctors expected the leg had to be amputated, she made an almost miraculous recovery, and was back on the force within half a year.

She was on the job when she recevied the phone call on her parent's death. She immediately gathered her most important possessions and headed to Nebraska from her home in Washington State, suddenly filled with regret for not having called for three months.

Okay, for starters, of the two Richard and Joan. Joan would be considered the smart one. So intelligent and became a doctor after retiring from hunting. Kinda strict but loving and protective of those she cares about. Always making time to see her kids despite her job. Richard after retiring from hunting, he managed to work as a maintenance worker at the local hydroelectric generating station. He is more laid back, supportive and tries to look out for his kids when he can. But has some depression that has lingered over the years and refuses to talk about it. So growing up in the household would have been somewhat chaotic since there was five kids to take care of but, they made it work.

Heritage-wise, mostly European like Romania, Hungarian, Czech, and Greek. Though with some Native American on Joan's side, Apache specifically.

Does this work, or should I add more?

Looks okay so far. One minor thing, the max age for a main family kid is 25. That is my fault for not listing the age range for the main family and cousins sooner in the ooc.

Also if more people show interest. I might include one or two more slots.

Name: Josephine Emily Russell
Gender: F
Age: 22
Appearance:
Image

Position in Family: Youngest—twins with Thomas
Personality: Josephine is perhaps the hardest worker of her siblings. She’s genuine in her dedication, though not great at acting the part. In her mind, it’s her job to pick up the slack where Allison drops off, as if making their parents extra proud might balance out in the net. She’s generally mild-mannered, preferring not to rock the boat, and gets a severe stomach ache whenever she finds herself in interpersonal conflicts. Over the years, she’s gotten better at hiding it and at standing tall on her own, but even as she can show strength in the moment, pushing it down doesn’t sit well with her. Though interpersonal conflicts stress her out greatly, she ironically remains fairly composed in most other crises, with a quick and decisive response that has caught falling cups, tipping tables, and even a baby.
Skills: Josephine possesses what can only be described as an encyclopedic knowledge of human anatomy, combined with four of six years at the best medical university in Germany have made for someone with a strong set of general medical knowledge, both theoretical and in its practical application. Her particular interest in trauma surgery makes her unusually prepared for the life of a Hunter—something that her mother was not ignorant to, and encouraged her to abandon the pursuit for dentistry or general practice. Though quite rusty, she still has some muscle memory from her days in gymnastics and has often reckoned that, with a bit of practice, she could get back in the swing of things.
Equipment: A general surgery basic kit, with some scalpel blades to boot. She also brought her medical textbooks with her and other school supplies, having notified her professors that she would keep them updated on the situation.
Background: A set of twins was certainly a surprise for the Russell parents, albeit not an unwelcome one. Ever the overachiever, Joan brought in 0.5 more children than the American dream asked for, all while working as a doctor. In many ways, Josephine’s childhood and life to this day have been defined by her family. As a younger child, her parents were somewhat less demanding, at least at face value. In many families, this brings strife, but Josephine rarely needed any motivator to fulfill what was expected of her. From her gymnastics in elementary school, debate and Science Olympiad in middle school, and yet more in high school, a full schedule kept Josephine busy.

Academically, Josephine never stumbled, though on her own, she struggled socially. In many ways, Josephine and Thomas fill one another’s weaknesses. For most purposes, this would be a good thing, but it did not always help Josephine’s social development. With Thomas by her side, she never needed to say no, as he would do it for her. As a result, she never did learn. Though she doesn’t mind her path in life, to this day she exists as a direct result of following her mother’s expectations to the letter. While Thomas resists and Allison gives no heed whatsoever in the realm of parental expectations, Josephine is bulldozed by them.

While attending university, away from her brother and parents, Josephine has had to adapt, in many ways she remains the same girl who left Nebraska several years ago. Every day, on her walk back from her afternoon classes, Josephine would call her mother for no less than ten minutes to update her on the day. Without fail, every day, for years, she has done this, but one day recently, her mother stopped answering. And then another day passed. Several days on, no response. In her heart, she knew something was wrong. Even before she got that call from her uncle, she had started mapping out how she was to pack, drafting emails to explain her absence, and getting everything in order. Indeed, she already had her laptop open to flights when her uncle called.

Marcus Russell

Postby Ragnox » Mon Feb 06, 2023 1:00 pm

Name: Marcus Russel

Gender: Male

Age: 26

Appearance:
Position in Family: Cousin

Personality: Marcus is a very caring man and he loves two things, nature, and animals. He is a recluse at times, but only to spend more time in nature. He has a good relationship with his parents and has tried to keep in contact with the rest of the Russell family over the years. He can be headstrong at times, and will use his brawn as opposed to brains when confronted by unfamiliar things. Loves to cook, mainly stews and soups.

Skills: Fishing, Some proficiency with a rifle, and is a good knife thrower.

Equipment: Nosler-21 Rifle, Ford F-150 pickup truck, hunting knife, toolbox, and a tent.

Background:
Marcus was born in Columbus, Nebraska, in 1984 from Emily Russell and her husband Owen. Marcus was a smart child growing up, excelling in school. Marcus loves his sibling and cousins and always wanted to play with them when he was younger. When he was very young, his parents died, and his aunt and uncle took him and his older brother in. It did not affect Marcus as much, due to him not knowing them well. Middle school hit and Marcus found a passion in football, which is what took up most of his time during his early teenage years. Throughout middle school, Marcus became popular due to football, and he had many friends, but when he got to high school, a lot of his friends moved away, or found new friends which meant that Marcus was left with mostly just his family, and a few close friends. Marcus continued to play football and was a 4-star recruit by the end of high-school. The time came though for Marcus to decide what to do with his life; his parents suggested something along the lines of justice, or police work; while his real passions were to either play college football, or to become a mechanic. Marcus first chose the collegiate football route, picking Ohio State, and had a succesful first year in college, but was eventually very un-intrested in football, due to constant strain on his body. Marcus went back home the next year and applied to multiple trade schools, but none of them wanted him. Seeing few choices, Marcus went into the fishing industry, which was a pastime he liked doing. A year into the profession and after working the whole year for other fishermen, he bought his own boat, and spent four years fishing with a small crew. Eventually though, it started to bore Marcus, so he took his earnings and traveled America, making many new friends and seeing beautiful landscapes. By the time Marcus hit 26, he was almost done with his travels, but out of the blue, he got a phone call from his uncle asking him to come home, as his parents had gone missing. Marcus , devastated to hear the news, dropped his money in a bank and drove the 470 miles from Denver to Nebraska as fast as he could, hoping to learn about what happened to his parents.

Name: Thomas Edward Russel
Gender: Male
Age: 22
Appearance: https://imgur.com/a/a6lPZGx
Position in Family: Youngest - Twins with Josephine
Personality: Like a well-made gear in an oiled machine, Thomas is at his core reliable and dependable, always eager to assist friends and family. He values the strength of cooperation. However, pressure placed upon him, both by his family and himself, has also left the Russel boy personally blunt and direct when dealing with interpersonal problems.
Skills: Thomas has strong technical skills, as well as seemingly natural inclinations anything mechanical, especially towards automotive work. He has a reputation as a man who can fix nearly anything as long as it has a motor or a computer chip.
Equipment: Thomas brings a portable tool-box as well as an emergency kit with matches and basic first-aid supplies in his car. Personally, the man also is inseparable from his laptop and keeps a small knife tucked in one of his boots now that he has returned home.
Background: Thomas’s childhood was defined by being born a male and the expectations placed upon him as it was by his own personality. He was steered towards traditionally masculine toys and outlets, although his mother insisted that he keep to more casual sports such as bowling. He also proved to be a curious child. He seemingly spent more time disassembling his toys to figure out how they worked than playing with them, which started a life-long passion for mechanics.

Growing up, the boy was no less studious than Josephine. However, his sister’s own feelings and their general closeness prevented it from evolving beyond light competition and into a proper rivalry. The twin’s close relationship also often led him to intervene in his sister’s problems at home and at school. Although his interventions were often unwelcome at the time, they also cemented him as the pair’s backbone.

In High-school, Thomas developed his interest in computers, and his own curiosity about developing and understanding systems made IT an appealing option for study at university, and his mother viewed that as a respectable choice. Like his sisters, he left home to study at one of the institutes in the northern East Coast, although he made all efforts possible to keep contact over the years.

The sudden disappearance of his parents shocked Thomas to his core. There had been nothing out of the ordinary during his usual phone calls back home, and it was not as though his parents had enemies. As expected, the young man immediately booked a flight back west to Nebraska to return home.

Marcus dropped his money in a bank and drove the 470 miles from Denver to Nebraska as fast as he could, hoping to learn about what happened to his parents.

Okay, I am going to have to ask why does he have a rifle? Since I am not sure why he would have one given his background.

Also we have a discord so you can join when you can.

It was a rilfe he bought when he was in his early 20's. Mostly for protection on his boat considering they went up against some dangerous animals, like sharks, and when in the swamps, gators. Not a crucially important item, but he's kept it cause it's a nice comfort.

Name: Grant Russell
Gender: Male
Age: 27
Appearance: Grant
Position in Family: Cousin
Personality: Grant is someone that can be seen as a quiet, introverted person. However, he can hold a conversation with someone and does enjoy spending time with friends. At times he prefers to be alone, and he always had a curious nature to him. Especially in regard to his parents, who died when he was two. Grant loves his family and is a reliable person when someone he cares for is in trouble.

Background: Born older brother of Marcus and the child of Emily and Owen Russell. Tragedy hit the family when he was two when his parents were killed under mysterious circumstances. Luckily his uncle and aunt, Richard and Joan, agreed to take him and Marcus in. Though he was a cousin, he was treated like Richards and Joan's own flesh and blood child. Even when they had kids of their own, and Grant was thankful for that. Along with answering questions he had about his parent. Even though he felt like they were not telling him everything but he did not push the issue for the most part.

Growing up, Grant always had an interest in science, from astronomy to biology. His adoptive parents were supportive of it. Encouraging him to follow through with it and yet were oddly not supportive when he tried sports. His parents wanting him to limit what he did, and basketball seemed okay to them. Still, Grant had a good relationship with his parents, along with his younger brother and his cousins.

It was around high school Grant showed interest in chemistry, curious about how things worked and how to make new things. Enough interest that he wanted to be a chemist and with the support of his parents. Grant managed to land a spot at a university in the eastern United States. After graduating, he landed a job as a chemist for a lab and keep in contact with his family over the years.

When he was told that his parents were missing, Grant was beside himself and was not sure of what to do. Who would do this and wonder what is happening to his parents. Then his uncle called and ask him to return home to Nebraska to talk about it. So Grant took up his uncle's offer and booked a flight back to Nebraska to see what his uncle wants to say.
