Hafamari Athletes Win 7 Medals Thus Far; Men's Ice Hockey Team Reaches Semi-Finals

As the IBA Sports Championships II continue with exciting competition in each category, Hafamari everywhere are celebrating as seven medals, including 4 gold, have been won by Hafamari athletes. This comes as a surprise to many, including Ïmažëtan Zurnačëh, Dean of Athletic Medicine at Sučavjë University.

"Hafamarimët as a nation isn't really known for athleticism," Zurnačëh said Friday evening after his former student, Töjk Šidravi, took the gold in Men's Mass Start Speed Skating. "We are of course very proud of our athletes!"

The most popular sport in Hafamarimët is, of course, ice hockey, so it was a sad day for many when the women's team didn't make it to the quarterfinals. Spirits and hopes remain high, however, as the men's competition reaches the semifinal stage and the Hafamari men's team prepare to face off against the nation with the most gold medals this far - Srednjaci.

"It's gonna be tough," said Ajaho Sïmgë, head coach of the Baspink Bahjëči, who won the honor of representing Hafamarimët as our national team by winning the 2022-23 Hafamari Men's Hockey League Championship. "But we have what it takes to bring home the gold."

Ilyas Aylanev- Director of the Ugunnustani ministry of sports

What the hell just happened?

A good question to ask, although a hard one aswell as the excited chants and screams fill the stuffy boardroom.

How the hell had Ugunnustan got the ice hockey quarter finals?

The Ugunnustan ministry of sport, up there with possibly some of the greats. If by greats you mean some of the most underfunded government ministries, consistently ranked in the hallowed halls of the bottom 5, along with Public transit and the environmental protection agency (Woops!) The women's ice hockey team isn’t the best either, still a lot better than the rag-tag bunch the country managed to drag together for the men’s. But not great. The sad reality is that in ugunnustan, many skilled athletes would prefer to travel to a much more pedigree sporting nation, than fly the moniker of back home, which means often the country is left with what comes from scraping the bottom of the barrel when it comes to sporting talent. Especially for winter sport.

Who’s idea was it to get Ugunnustan to compete in winter sports? Well obviously there is an easy answer to that question, the man you find above. Head of the ministry of sports Iliyas Aylanev, a hard working, dedicated and complete and utter lunatic. As we’ve said before, it’s not like he’s exactly rolling in money to get Ugunnustan’s teams out there, so the second he was offered an opportunity he took it, without really reading the fine print….

Ilyas Aylanev- WINTER SPORTS? WHAT DO YOU EXPECT ME TO SEND TO THE WINTER SPORTS?

All in all it was quite a calm and collected response, any international events have surely got to work out for the ministry to some level right? So with relatively minimal training time suddenly the ice hockey teams were being shipped off to Darkmania. And shockingly, they’ve done quite well: but still not enough to convince the president to give the Aylanev more money (Please he’s desperate) clearly they need another team.

Netball, that’s the answer, a netball team. Unsurprisingly, even less who signed up for ice hockey, signed up for Netball, predictably leading the country to tumble down into the consolation leagues. Nonetheless they haven’t done bad, a middling result like 9th could still earn the ministry the money they need to come back bigger and better than ever, so what do you say, think we should give it a go?

It was completely up to Luke Stuartson.

The 33-year-old goalie may be in the twilight years of his career. He may be gone from Aloc IT in a couple of years when his contract expires. He may be retiring after that or perhaps having to settle for either a semi-pro league or look to play abroad in order to further his career. He may be at the point where, if this was a video game, his overall would be going down and he'll be on the transfer list or trading block. But none of that mattered. In this match, he was the man. He was in his zone, he was the rock of his team and he was doing his best to prevent an early exit for the B-team. Not bad for someone who hadn't seen that much action in the tournament so far, with his only dressings being a couple of games where he was on the bench but ended up not having to mask up, either because his team had pretty much won or they weren't losing badly enough to warrant a goalie pull, let alone a goalie switch.

Going up against Todlichebujoku, the morale in the B-team camp was kind of diminishing. Coach Mike Duncanson could feel the pressure and could understand all the calls for him to quit or be fired upon the tournament's end. The players were either starting to run on fumes after their first three wins ended up leading to two losses, that or it was becoming clear how complacent they had become. Sure the 1-0 loss to Srednjaci was understandable, they were quite a decent team and they managed to hold the B-team on the ropes. The 1-0 loss to Great Britain and Irelandia, however, was not and it couldn't even be explained by sucky (or cheaty) refs. The Elejamians just looked completely apathetic out there. But they were still able to finish in second place and thus qualify for the quarter-finals. Srednjaci finished top whereas Ceni came third but managed to squeeze in by being a better third placer than Estogium. Great Britain and Irelandia, Darkmania and, unsurprisingly, Nightom finished fourth, fifth and sixth respectively and were thus eliminated. That last team didn't just lost all of their games, however, they lost all of them in regulation.

The Tobuish team, meanwhile, were actually flying high and doing pretty good. A 3-0 win over Placely Placington to kick things off, followed a 2-0 win over Kriegiersien and a 1-0 win over StrayaRoos. Quite a decent winning streak, albeit by the tournament's standards, even if it started to drop off by the end. Then they played Crpostran and couldn't get anything done in the sixty minutes of regulation time, nor could either of them break their goalless deadlock in the five minutes of OT. So it came down to a shoot-out, which then went to sudden death because both sides couldn't not score. Fortunately for the Tobuese, one of their guys scored the GWS to make it a 4-3 win and a 1-0 final score. However their streak ended up coming to an end when they played Britonisea and suffered through another shoot-out to separate them after 65, only this time the Britonish won it 2-1. A bit of a downer but since they were through at that point it was something they could afford to do.

So, naturally, Coach Mike didn't want to take any chances against Tobuly Tobuington. Granted he wasn't really that sure what Todlichebujokish ice hockey was like but that was more because he wasn't really an analytics guy, he just wanted the team to get out there and play to a basic plan. According to a roster he had found online they seemed to have midfielders, making it somewhat more like field hockey but they're playing it on ice. Or possibly more like bandy. However, it could've been a guide to explaining it using another sport as a comparison but he didn't really read that far. Whatever the reason was, he had to prepare his team to actually step onto the ice and actually play liked their tournament depended on it. Probably because it actually did.

And for the first time since the Ceni game, they actually did. The defence had finally woken up and were actively trying to keep the puck out of the net. Not just 80-85% effort like the last two games but rather closer to 100%. The offence were on point and either setting up chances for their teammates or trying to get the puck into the other team's net. And Luke Stuartson was doing a decent job in net, having blocked the vast majority of shots that came his way. Those that he didn't block were usually either off-target or stopped by his defencemen. And, ultimately, everything paid off when, for the first time in two games, they were able to score a goal. With 5:18 left in the second period, Fahrudin Zulfikarpasic managed to pass the puck over to Marcus Mateuski after he too received it from Jay Bailey. He made his way up the ice and fired a shot at Torigo Kamiya. The puck bounced off of the goalie's pads but Mateuski's second attempt was successful.

If only Mekkinhartti Kavakuči didn't level the scores with 13:10 left in the third with an unassisted wrist shot. It wasn't exactly Luke's fault for not saving it, he just couldn't get a glove to it in time and the shot just managed to evade his teammate's sticks. Was it the end of the world? No, because they had at most thirteen minutes and ten seconds left to get a goal to win it. And an extra five if they want to deal with overtime. And however long the shoot-out took. So a victory wasn't necessarily off the cards. But it was something that they needed to overcome, and pronto. Which was easier said than done given that the Tobulandians tightened up their defence. At least the B-team did the same thing to force a stalemate.

Overtime couldn't separate the two so it was time to select their shoot-out scorers and then get things underway. Being the side listed first, it was Elejamie's first skate to go up. Marcus Mateuski. He skated his way up over to Kamiya and expertly deked the puck in. Then it was Kavakuči's go, only for Stuartson to just get a stick to it and block it out. Zulfikarpasic was next up but he wasn't able to get it done, with Kamiya blocking the puck with his skate and kicking it away after the ref confirmed it was no goal. Then Elminsteri Salonen was next up and he managed to level the scores when he just slipped it past Stuartson. 1-1. Now it was up to Scott Holland to try and get it done for his team. He skated up the ice and neatly put it past Kamiya to make it 2-1.

Which brings us back to the present. Luke Stuartson was back between the pipes and had to concentrate on what was about to happen next. If he keeps this one out, then his side would punch their ticket for a semi-final spot and, perhaps, a chance to win a medal. If he lets it in, it'll go to sudden death where anything could happen. Jirair Kivistö was the last of the three starters for We Will We Will Tobu to try and get a goal for his team before they have to go further down the list to try and get it done. It was tense with both players trying to get one up on the other. Eventually Kivistö moved his stick out of the way and attempted a shot. Unfortunately for him, Stuartson butterflied at just the right time to make sure the puck didn't go in. He had done it. Not only did they win the shoot-out 2-1 but they won the match by the same score too.

And they weren't the only ones celebrating too. The Lady Ice-a-phants were also through to the semi-finals of their tournament following a 2-1 win over Crpostran. A team that had done fairly well in their tournament with wins against Britonisea and Hafamarimët but a loss to eventual group winners Raspotochje on the final day saw them slip into second place. So they wanted to try and bounce back from that and perhaps cement their spot in the medal round. And it seemed like they would, thanks to a goal from Chloe Martin with 4:55 left in the first. A simple snapper that was assisted by her captain Emily Thompson and Maya Johnson. And it seemed like they'd cruise to a semi-final spot after a goalless second period. Unfortunately, Nadia Amato levelled the scored with 15:43 left in the third thanks to a one-timer off of a pass from Stacey Verhoeven (and Natasha Islington getting the other assist) and the Lady Ice-a-phants established their lead with 1:29 left thanks to Elejamian captain Gabriela Delgado scoring from the point, with Abigail Denning and Holly Rivelli being credited with the assists. After that, it was just a matter of killing off the clock until the horn went and then it was time to celebrate with the win.

So what was happening now? With the men, Sredjnaci and Hafamarimët were facing off against each other after the former beat Ceni 1-0 and the latter beat Crpostran 5-0. Meanwhile Britonisea beat Waisnor 5-0 to set up a re-match against the B-team, making this the third time the two teams played each other after their two pre-tournament friendlies. Elejamie won the first one in Burgendore handily, 2-1, but for the re-match at the Sherbourne Arena just outside of Aldenport it ended 2-2. Normally it would've ended there but they settled on OT, which still couldn't break the deadlock. Which then went to a shoot-out, which the B-team won 2-1. And so they were meeting again, with one side hoping to get a win in an actually competitive game whereas the other's hoping to get a gold medal to accompany the one they got in the Winter Olympics a very long time ago. With the ladies, Kriegiersien edged out Srednjaci 5-4, Ugunnustan beat Raspotochje 2-1 in the shoot-out after a goalless draw after 65 and Nightom's women's team proved to be much better than their male counterpart when they also beat Ceni 1-0. As a result, it'll be Kriegiersien vs Nightom whereas the Lady Ice-a-phants will have to take on Ugunnustan. Four very important games that could make or break a tournament.

And with 3/4 chance of a medal, the ball was in Elejamie's court.

Multiple More Medals Won; Men's Hockey Faces Britonisea in Final

The new year has seen several Hafamari competitors bring home medals, including 3 new Gold's. The reaction around Hafamarimët has been one of absolute joy and pride, with many bars and venues holding increasingly popular viewing parties for the IBA Sports Champs II.

TVH has moved coverage to their main channel, originally only broadcasting on TV2 and TVHSport. "We've noticed an increase in interest and changed our scheduling accordingly," a TVH spokesperson said with a genuine smile.

As excited as the Hafamari population seems to be, there is also trepidation and anxiousness as the Hafamari Men's Ice Hockey team has made it through to the finals, playing the impressive and intimidating Britonisean team. "I think we can do it," assistant coach Dupo Čemjanetka said in an interview on Radio1 this afternoon, "but it will take all of our focus. All of our strength. All of our heart. We've been fighting so hard through this tournament, and it shows by how we've beaten plenty of other talented teams. It all comes down to this, and we are ready."

Many parties are planned for the occasion - win or lose, there is sure to be drinking, dancing, and singing, as is the Hafamari way.

Second IBA Sports Championships 2023- Vol 1

WE LOST THE FIRST PLACE ON THE MEDAL TALLY!

Dear viewers, welcome to the show dedicated to the second edition of the IBA Sports Championship.
My name is Livio Kržić.

Even to the record viewing of a sporting event at the IBA Sports Championships did not help our men's hockey team make it to the finals.
Thousands of our fans went to Britonisea to support our players to reach the final. And our television can boast and say that the broadcast of this match was the most watched event at the IBA Sports Championships in our country.
Unfortunately, this did not help to our players to enterng the final.
Hafamarimyth beat us 2:1 and qualified for the final. In the final, they will meet Britonisea. They will play against Elejamie for the third place.
Britonisea and Hafamarimyth are in the fight with us for the top of the medal tally.
At the moment, we have lost the leading position, but we hope that our speed skaters will be able to get medals. Sanjin Car and Chong Youn Cho have great chances, but they need to justify it on the ice.
In the meantime, we also received a statement from Tena Špričić Tavano, who returned to Katanija yesterday.
Here is what she told to our colleague Marija Saračić.

"I have a great end to the season. I won the Diamond Trophy in singles and doubles, here I separated the gold medal in women's doubles. But too many matches in a short period after a break of over 200 days left a mark on my body. Already in mixed doubles at the IBA Championships I felt like my body was like lead. I wasn't moving well, my legs were heavy, my reactions were slow. I realized that it was all about this moment. The next day in singles I was even worse. However, I'm not satisfied. I did my best and while it was going, it was good. Now rest and preparations for the next season"

One of our assets here is the Mutavdžić sisters. They are former Olympic champions and current Olympic runners-up. Tomorrow, the sisters will compete in this competition for the first time and seek their fourth international medal. We hope for good news from Darkmania.

Pemecutan wasn't bring great news to us last day. Herešulina lost to Anja Bajčić from Raspotochje and Lucija Bagarić also lost to player from Raspotochje, Amanda Patoković. This was a huge suprise and big desapointment.
But some light was spoted in the dark. In squash, mixed doubles, Ana Verbić and Zoran Jurić Will play in semies.

Second IBA Sports Championships 2023- Vol 1

LAST DAY AT IBA CHAMPIONSHIPS

Dear viewers, welcome to the show dedicated to the second edition of the IBA Sports Championship.
My name is Livio Kržić.

It's the last day at the IBA Championships. All sports events today will be fights for medals. Can we get the desired gold today? The gold drought of our athletes lasted for a long time. Maybe today is the time to hear our national anthem again.
The Mutavdžić sisters have the best chance for a gold medal. They are currently leading the bobsleigh after two races.
Also, the men's national team currently holds the leading position. But that's it. We have no more room for gold. Britonisea still has more opportunities for gold.

It would be unfair to point out that the hosts of this competition have brilliantly organized sports competitions.
Britonisea, Pemecutan, Darkmania and StrayaRoos performed all events with incredible quality. Our athletes often pointed out that everything was impeccably organized.
And we, on behalf of our sports delegation, our newsroom, but also on behalf of sports, want to congratulate and to thank all the hosts.
Thank you !

Carla's Confectionery, Junteräpten, Britonisea

It wasn't exactly close by the hockey events. But Páivi Nišikava felt like she really needed to make the journey to Junteräpten. Like many Tödlichebujokis who have been in contact with Britonish media and culture, she had heard and seen much about Carla's Confectionery - for many beyond the borders of Britonisea, it represented Britonish culture just as much as the nation's multitude of successful WorldVision entries.

The shop was bustling with activity, with throngs of people streaming in and out. She had to wait some time before she was about to view the vast selection of mouthwatering options before her. How could one ever choose??? In the end, she settled for a little sampler of macarons and a custard tart, making her way over to one of the smaller tables where she could dine and gaze out the window to the busy streetscape beyond. As she just bit into her first macaron, her ears were met with an unexpected conversation from the next table over.

"I'm not sure I can meet Father Maddox again. The last time he went down on me on the altar, he started crying? Something about how I'm the light of his world and how he needs beauty like me to join him through life."

"Hello? Why would he even do that? That's so embarrassing in the middle of a date."

"Right?! Like sir, I'm not here to provide emotional support, I'm just here to bust and bounce. I'm not your confessional box??"

"Oh my God did you ever do it in a confessional?"

"Well yes girl, that's the first thing we did when we met.."

"Wow, you got your priorities straight. At least tell me he knew how to use his Holy Son!"

"Obviously, or else I wouldn't have come back for the other dates. He was so great at squeezing in a bit of bish bash Boschke with me in between services.."

Páivi felt robbed of that macaron. She'd eaten the whole thing without paying a shred of attention to its flavor. Perhaps it would be best to eat elsewhere. She side eyed the two men sitting behind her as she left for another place to eat. It was honestly a miracle her appetite was still intact, but she feared she'd have to eat at her hotel room if she kept running into such conversations around town. What strange interactions you can have when traveling! At least Páivi could say her experience was a memorable one.
早晨!ToBu for short.

Day 9

Medal hopes ahead of Day 9 at the IBA Sports Championships...

The IBA Sports Championships sees Britonisea topping the medal table ahead of Day 9, but that doesn't mean it'll finish on top as the main nation. These are our medal hopes...

Racquetsport Championships

Siblings Lucy Meyer and George Meyer have made it to the finals of the women's singles and men's singles in table tennis. Lucy Meyer is set to play against Gabina Anderson of Nightom who is a former Olympic medallist. Though, Lucy has had some good experiences with her Olympic stints and her matches ahead of playing Gabina. Lucy, with her spectacular performance against Mia Solgarda (ACS) might make her the slight favourites against Nightom's Anderson, but she is a medallist so she might know how to perform in moments such as a final. Meanwhile, George Meyer has won a bronze medal in the table tennis men's Olympics and most definitely, looking at the field, has always been the favourite to win the competition. It's no surprise that he's in the final, Rino Gadil from Hafamarimet - a nation that has been doing very well at the IBA Sports Championships - might have something to say about that. Martyn Sakovelo of Darkmania managed to take a single set away from George in the table tennis semi-final, but George was able to pull it out of the bag and was victorious. He is up against the aforementioned Rino Gadil, who also only lost one set in his last match.

Britonisea could receive a bronze medal in the women's final, but isn't expected to win any further racquetsport championships.

Wintersports Championships

After Britonisea's fantastic performance on Day 8 at the IBA Championships, they're hoping to replicate their success again. The figure skating has the highest chances of Britonish success, with the pair's competition seeing Kissy Guilame and Jaden Willis in pole position. They have a free skate ahead with the pair from Srednjaci and Hafamarimet - Britonisea's main competition - providing tough competition. Grace Anderson and Grace Smith in the Women's Two-Man bobsleigh competition are currently in third place, less than a second behind Hafamarimet pair Sanja Mutavdžić and Sejla Mutavdžić. Behind them is a Srednjaci pair. Hafamarimet, Srednjaci or Britonisea - these three nations will be fighting for the last few medals, but don't count out a dark horse from the likes of Crpostran, Estogium or Raspotochje making a last ditch effort to rise up the tally...

Men's Ice Hockey Gold Medal Hopes, Hangovers End; Final Medal Count Approaches

The day before yesterday, Hafamarimët's Men's Ice Hockey team lost 3-1 to Britonisea, securing the silver medal. The ensuing night of drinking and debauchery caused many people to call off "sick" on Friday, closing many workplaces and giving much of the population a three-day weekend.

"We take our hockey seriously," Radio1 on-air personality Penalty Box Pnejah said during his noticeably low-energy broadcast Friday afternoon. "We are of course very proud of a silver medal, but it would be a lie to say we're not disappointed to have come so close to gold."

With a general feeling of "there's always next year," Hafamari fans celebrated mournfully until the wee hours of the morning, clinging to the hope that medals in remaining events may boost Hafamarimët to first in the medal count.

"That one's less important," Penalty Box Pnejah told a caller, "because we're really just surprised to have done so well overall. It's just like, hockey is our thing, right? We really wanted to win that one. It's super cool and I'm super happy for all the competitors who are still winning events, but I think we can all agree, hockey was the big one."

The caller disagreed and hung up.
