I wouldn't use two different shades of red. I would also make the colors darker, the white a bit thinner and the red circle bigger. You could center the circle (since using something nordic-ish is weird for a japanese described country) but not as important as the others.

Pics aren't great, but kind of the idea I would use if it were my flag.
