What do people claim is local in YN when its actually not?

To elaborate, I mean something that residents of YN consider to be "local" to their own city/province/region/country but is actually a national or international thing.

EXAMPLE: In Tummylandia and Susistan, many provinces like to claim themselves as the "mountain province", even some non-mountainous provinces like Grandes Llanuras or Morbeanna have claimed so.

Every province also claims to be "the most corrupt", so much infact that an unofficial "corruption Olympics" is held every year by the national government to assess how corrupt certain provinces are.

And finally, every city claims that they've got "some of the best barbecue in the province/region/country" even though this is far from a unique thing.

Many claim that the Interstate Highways are "Boldonian" when in reality they are American. However this doesn't change the fact that they are integral to Boldonian society.

In Radiatia there's a lot of parochial controversy over who can claim to be "the Centre of Radiatia".

There are five contenders for the position, whose arguments are as follows:

• Exegrad, Alayenia: Radiatia's largest city claims to be the 'Heart of Radiatia' partly due to its geographic location in the south central part of the country but mainly for its cultural and economic influence on the rest of the country and the fact that there is truth to the saying "All Roads Lead to Exegrad" due to the design of Radiatia's interstate highway system. Although it's not the capital city, it has such a large economic, cultural and indeed political influence on the rest of the country as the largest city and commercial capital that it bills itself the centre of the nation.
  
• Skorptsch: The state of Skorptsch claims to be the 'true' centre of Radiatia because it the geographic centre of the Radiatian Federation is found in that state. It's also the state that gave birth to the Greasy Joe's fast food franchise, which is considered a major symbol of Radiatian culture.
  
• Mus: Mus is often nicknamed "the middle state" due to its location very close to the geographic as well as the fact that is the most statistically average state in the nation on every demographic. It's frequently an ignored and forgotten part of the country until elections roll around and we see it's demographic centrism make it one of, if not the most important swing-state in every election as Mus is frequently the state that makes or breaks a close Presidential election.
  
• Miitlania: If it hadn't been for certain territorial expansions, Miitlania would have been able to claim to be the geographic centre of the nation and the state is still located very close to the centre of the nation. The name "Miitlania" also means "Midland" in Old Radiatian and so from this it stakes its claim.
  
• Midgard: Midgard also means "Midland" but in Drachenese rather than Radiatian and the state in the centre of Radiatia's northwestern plateau stakes its claim on the basis of its name as well as the fact that it is the centre of most Radiatian heavy industry - being the biggest manufacturing, mining and heavy industry area in the country.

Companies in DiaperLand have been accused of copyright infringement for having similar-sounding names to international brands, with most of them claiming to be the true originators of those products. Examples include the Happy Huggies diaper brand and Calvin Klint designer clothing brand. Even our largest retailer Bulk Mart makes dubious claims of being the first big box retailer in the world.

Although Diapermen tend to view these claims as suspicious while in private, they will still fiercely defend local products when challenged by detractors in public. In a famous segment on the Good Morning DiaperLand television program, Diaperman movie star Kirk Edwards got into a heated debate with the pop musician Little Crook about the origins of the disposable diaper, with Edwards claiming that it was invented in the city of Nappywood by a man named Joe Pampers. When Little Crook presented the movie star evidence to the contrary, Edwards then shifted gears, saying Joe Pampers was the first person to "make it actually work, and so that's what counts". Joe Pampers is a fictional brand icon whose origins can be traced back to an advertisement campaign that started nearly 30 years after the invention of the first disposable diapers.

Verans have an opposite version of this phenomena and think their language is exactly the same as Russian only written with the latin alphabet. Our people can be quite cynical about their hometown, however they will object to insults from outsiders, and every provincial town to minor city swears that it's just like that. This cynicism contrasts with a claim to unique fame that is often replicated and repeated, whether for pride or self-shame.
