A Festival of Stars (IC, OPEN)

Postby The Selkie » Fri Sep 23, 2022 12:39 am

Hi and welcome to A Festival of Stars!
Please apply and be accepted on this OOC before posting. Thanks!

SDFS Maor, Kanmusu of the SDF-Navy.
Naval Yard Cartreffa Island, Settlement.

The Settlement was a small collection of wooden houses, one storey high, but quite homey and airy – they needed it, considering that Cartreffa Island was one of the few parts of the Oileánra-Archipelago, which actually counted as tropical – barely, but still.
And it was a resort for Kanmusu, mostly maintained by the SDF-Navy for their Kanmusu, but the local Installation Type had always made a point out of being there for everyone, even when it was still a pirate harbour.
The wooden houses were quite a lot newer, though, and used by the visitors and inhabitants. This small wooden house was reserved for the Kanmusu of the Maor-Group.
One of them was me, SDFS Maor, tall, short, silver hair and blue eyes, a male Kanmusu, a.k.a. a Shipboy (or Shipman, as some admirers insisted), and while I usually wore a black armour, a reminder of my name, I had swapped it for swimming trunks today.
Today, we would celebrate – on the Day of the Harvest Festival, Selkie-Kanmusu celebrated Lodan Lir and Aranrot, one the God of the Sea and the Rivers, the other the Goddess of the Moon and Stars, both our elements since times eternal. With the New Visayan Islands squabbling with the New Luzon Kingdom, we might soon need to fight and this was the Fleet Command's way of motivating us before it escalated and we would be called to adhere to our duties by the SEA-Treaty and defend our allies.
There was no doubt, that we would do so.
But now, that was in the distant future.
Now, I leaned on the door frame of one of the bedrooms. We had five, one for each Kanmusu, but it seemed as if only I had spent the night alone: SDFS Adhbaile was out support ship, a vessel of the Gabhdán-class, an athletic blonde with purple eyes, but also putting truth to the fact, that she was a supply ship. I knew, that she would wear a white-green competitive one-piece to the beach today, but right now...
...well, Selkie slept naked where they felt safe. And where should she feel safer then in a Naval Yard?
If one thought, that the view was in any way, shape or form stimulating for certain body regions, though, one had to be disappointed: Adhbaile snored lightly and drooled onto her pillow.
That, and she was in the middle of a cuddle pile, our three corvettes snuggling up to her under the light, thin blanket. I was surprised, that our only other lad, SDFS Srublao, his blonde hair ruffled up beyond recognition, his blue eyes closed, had his heads in her arms, his forehead resting against her collarbone, while one of his sisters, SDFS Lahadar, was snuggled up behind him.
Lusachinn, the third corvette, rested on Adhbaile's other side, her arms wrapped around the larger support ship.
It was a little concert of snores.
That was my Maor-Group, my family. Some saw me as the Big Brother, others as the Father, but it was clear, that Adhbaile was the Big Sis of the three corvettes.
I took in the view, then silently decided to make breakfast.
The bedrooms were at a small hallway, which led on one end onto a veranda, on the other into the living room, which had a small kitchen adjacent – certainly enough to make breakfast. Certainly, we needed no sustenance like humans did, but it was a small creature comfort (add in, that we did not get fat) and both cooking and eating were pleasant way to spent the time.
And cooking for a beautiful woman...
As the eggs began to sizzle, I prepared the rest, cutlery and bread and plates, my ears...
Skill Activation: A Warrior's Ears.

...my ears caught sneaky padding of naked feed on the floorboards, most likely one of the girls, which sneaked to the corner, where the hallway met living room. She most likely peeked around the corner, watching, waiting, but why... ah.
Past the living room was the bath room.
“You can run past, I am focussed on the eggs.”, I said without looking up from them.
A moment of silence.
“Thank you.”, Lahadar whispered and then ran.
I smiled. “You're welcome.”
I continued cooking, buttered the bread (wheat bread, unlike the barley bread we usually had in Wembury), put cheese on the table and then looked up. Lahadar peeked out of the bathroom, past a slightly opened door, watching me.
I threw her a wink and turned to the hearth.
She rushed past again.
I resisted the urge to chuckle to myself, but I did smile.
Next I heard the sleepy shuffling of Lusachinn, looking up at the little girl, who had apparently gone to her room and thrown on a sun dress. A strap was slipping, yes, her hair was a slight mess, yes, but she was sleepy.
She sniffed once, smiled slightly.
“Tea?”, I asked.
She looked at me, smiled and nodded. “Yes, please.”, she said, then added: “Adhbaile sends her regards, by the way. She's letting Srublao sleep until he wakes up.”
“When will that be?”, Lahadar asked, walking into the room. Her hair was not yet finished, but bound back into a long ponytail. She did wear a bikini and a pair of hot pants.
I poured two cups of tea as Lusachinn started to answer.
Then the boy in question gave a loud “Eeep!” as he woke up and realized where he was.
I smiled. “Now, I'd guess.”
The girls chuckled.
Distantly, we could hear the sound of the boy profusely apologizing and our supply ship reassuring him, that it was alright and that all was fine and so on, rinse and repeat, before we heard him stepping out of Adhbaile's room to his own, next to mine.
I smiled, poured myself one cuppa and two more for the lad and for Adhbaile.
It took a few minutes, the eggs sizzling away peacefully, until the lad came out of his room and into the living room. He avoided looking at all of us, his face deep red as he shuffled to his seat past me.
“Srublao.”
The sound of my voice made him stop next to me.
He sweat bullets.
“High five?”, I asked and held my hand out. He turned even more red, knowing, that this was a congratulatory thing, and he slapped his hand into mine. “There ya go. Take a cuppa!”
After he did that, the girls grinning at him and soon involving him into a conversation about something or the other, I turned back to the breakfast.
I must have been so engrossed in my work, that I did not notice someone sneaking up on me, until Adhbaile wrapped her arms around me, putting her chin on my shoulders. I felt her 'fuel tanks' pressing against my back, only the thin fabric of her one-piece separating her skin from mine and her hair brushing against my ear.
I froze.
“Hm...”, Adhbaile made, “That smells wonderful.”
I nodded, blushing lightly. “I... hope it tastes wonderful as well.”
“I am sure of it.”, Adhbaile said and then pecked me on the cheek: “Thank you for cooking!”
“My pleasure.”, I replied and nodded, “Grab a cuppa, breakfast will be ready in a moment.”
She nodded and pecked me on the cheek once more, then departed. I was unaware of the wink, which she gave the two girls, Lahadar suppressed a giggle.
A cuppa in hand, I heard her sitting down at the table and, true to my word, breakfast was ready a few moments later. Serving everything was quite the undertaking, but at least I didn't have to call upon my air complement (although the image was amusing) and I sat down next to Adhbaile, who sat next to Srublao, opposite to the girls.
“Alright then...” I reached out my hands, everyone holding them. “...good appetite.”
Admittedly something we learned from Mona Beag, who had it from the Banphrionsa-Family, but it was a cute gesture as everyone chorused.
“So, everyone hyped for the beach today?”, I asked into the round.
“Yay!”, the three corvettes chorused back.
“But first, Miss LL will hold her Service.”, Adhbaile said, “Today is Harvest and for us Star Festival.”
“Yes...”, all three chorused with less enthusiasm.
Adhbaile smiled. “Don't worry, there will be enough time for fun afterwards. Caja has said, that she'll hold a gunnery competition for your calibre, too.” The three perked up and I looked at her, too. Our support ship nodded. “She told me, that she'd also hold an AA-gunnery competition, but she is unsure of how to do so.” She shrugged and looked at Srublao with a smile. “So I might still need a Champion?”
He blushed, swallowed his bite and then told her: “I'm sorry, Adhbaile, but I am hoping for someone else to ask me...”
“Bruinneall?”, Adhbaile asked gently. He nodded. “Good luck.”
“Thank you.”, the lad said with a gentle smile. “I'll do her proud!”
“Speaking of...”, I said, looking at the two girls, “...have you selected Champions?”
Lusachinn shook her head, but Lahadar nodded: “I got Lapa, she's one of the ships from the Eachtrán!”
I looked at Adhbaile and she at me. “Does she even have guns?”
“A few long eight pounder tollpholls.”, she said with a smile, “She's in the Special Category.”
“Good luck to her, then.”, I said with a smile. We would later find out, that the Special Category had maybe half a dozen Kanmusu in it. “And do you have an eye on someone, Lusachinn?”
“Nah, I don't want to. Those, who I know and participate in the gunnery competitions, either have their eyes on someone already, while the rest I do not know.” She shrugged. “I guess, I was too late.”
“Hm...”, Adhbaile made, “...if you say so...”
“What are you going to do? Aside from attending the competition, of course?”, I asked with a smile.
Lusachinn was the first to answer: “I want to go into the forest with the girls of the Seventh Corvettes!”
“Nice.”, Adhbaile said and turned to me.
“Kyra, Xezal and Yara invited for a drink among the carriers.”, I said and shrugged, “I wanted to go. Coming along?”
Adhbaile thought for a moment. “I might come later, but the problem is... I'm not a carrier.” I nodded slowly. She petted me onto the shoulder. “Don't worry, I'll find something fun to do. And if not, I'll go fishing.”
“That's right, the big fish grilling Caja planned for the evening...”
And from there, the conversation twisted and turned to different things, ebbed and flowed, while we ate and once that was done, I did the dishes with Srublao – the girls were putting on the finishing touches on their hair and makeup and clothes and everything.
The lad asked me in a low voice for help. He looked about twelve, the woman he crushed on looked twice as old, but funnily enough, Bruineall was commissioned in 2019, Srublao in 2018, so technically, he was older... Kanmusu were weird, when it came to age and apparent age.
At least he didn't crush on Old Lady Rhi – small blessings.
Once we were done with that, and the girls finished with their preparations, we met at the door, going to the beach together. Adhbaile looked very beautiful, her hair flowing in the wind...

...especially in the breeze at the beach.
It was next to the Pontoon Harbour and ashore from the Settlement. The hulls of many, many ships could sit in the bay, not only warships, but also civilian vessels, and while some were there, the majority of present Kanmusu had left their hulls back home, but not their riggings.
My rigging was in the warehouses by the harbour, but my hull was in Wembury.
The Pontoon Harbour was, as the name suggested, a harbour with quays and berths settled on pontoons, with some warehouses and an old crane providing harbour installations – despite being a Naval Yard, Cartreffa Island was not exactly build up.
The pale, silver-haired installation type received everyone with open arms and was officially neutral. And while she was quite impressive, both in strength and in abilities, she was only one woman and had needed help in fixing the local temple to Lodan Lir and Aranrot – we had rushed to her aid and as someone had the idea, the celebration for the refurbished temple was turned into a general celebration with invitations to everyone.
There were a few groups of garden tables and garden chairs scattered over the beach, as well as beach chairs, a long bar to be manned by a few volunteers stood at the ready as well... and the grill, for fish of many different variations, which the yachts had brought along. Speaking of, the dark-skinned pointy-eared form of Aurelia, the Kanmusu belonging to the famous Kyrenaian Yacht, stood with us as well.
And this party was, what would happen after the small service on the beach.
SDFS Lodan Lir, the Rhiannon-II, was a brunette woman wearing a dark blue and white dress. She was a fully accredited Priestess of Lodan Lir, so she was allowed to hold this service. She stood in the water, knee deep, Maighdean and SDFS ARC-26 Rona (or just Rona) as her helpers in this service.
It was a small ceremony, thanking Lodan Lir (the deity this time) for calm seas, thanking Aranrot for her Little Guiding Lights, and offering a small incense offering, as it was custom. A little boat, brought out by SDFS Ladra, with three incense sticks (one each for those working on the sea, for those working with the sea and for those working below the sea), was lit and softly pushed out into the little bay, where it would burn for a while.
We lowered our heads, those of the Free Lands in religious reverence, others out of politeness. Some might speak little prayers, some might wait with bated breath until the ceremony was over so they could get to the party, but it took a minute or two until it was finished.
And then, SDFS Lodan Lir turned around to us, a wide, shit-eating grin on her lips as she put her hands to her mouth and yelled: “Let's get this party startin'!
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

At the Beach

"We're finally here, Koikaze," said NCS Atlas, one of the Novaya-class aircraft carriers, to HIFMS Koikaze, of the Churippunokaze-class heavy cruisers. The two ships had arrived at the beach, although they had expected to arrive at a port. "Eager for our vacation, Atlas-san?" Asked Koikaze.

"Aren't we supposed to represent our faction?" The Novayan carrier asked. "Yes, Atlas-san," replied Koikaze, "but the Admiralty had wanted us to go on a vacation, especially since we did a lot of hard work." She wrapped her arms around her carrier-boyfriend's arm with a smile. "Still, this is an opportunity for us to get even more closer," she told him.

Atlas replied with a smile, saying, "I get it, I get it, Koikaze. So you want us to go here just so we could have more free time together, isn't it?" His heavy cruiser-girlfriend nods, leaning her head next to him. "I'll take that as a yes," he stated.

To those who may or may not know, Atlas and Koikaze had been in a relationship for a few months, but no one knows how they had gotten into one. Some say he helped her, most say he listened to her singing and provided tips, others say the two met each other in a "love at first sight" situation, and few say the two were cut off from the rest of their units during a typhoon. Whatever the cases, it is clear all sources were conflicting, contradicting and unclear.

ORP Visby - Visby-class Guided Missile Cruiser
Sea, sand, and wind on not-quite-bare skin – just as Visby liked it – and, better yet, with no prudes nearby to shout her down for wearing anything lighter than a t-shirt and shorts.

…well, maybe one. Auntie Rota had pulled in with her earlier that morning, and, while Visby got ready, she had retreated to her room. But she had slunk away at the start of the ceremony to Lodan Lir – and where she was now, Visby didn’t know. Nor did she care – the old stick in the mud could handle herself. For now? She was on leave, and she intended to make the most use of it.

As the party kicked off, Visby headed up along the beach. The guided-missile cruiser was something of a sight to behold – not quite a jaw-dropper, perhaps, but still young-looking and pretty and curvy, and with a white two-piece swimsuit and a pair of denim shorts that helped accentuate her charms as well. She was not, however, looking to charm a lad -- or lass. Not at the moment, at least, though later on that could change.

She was looking for an old friend -- Bruinneall by name -- from Italy.

ORPRota - Rota-class Light Cruiser | USS/MV Severn - Cimarron-class Tanker
We lowered our heads, those of the Free Lands in religious reverence, others out of politeness.

There were two exceptions.

In the distance, two ship-spirits did not lower their heads at all.

One, rotund and middle-aged and in a dull-grey jumpsuit, gazed out to sea instead, where, faint and pale, the moon set, slinking away as the Sun rose. The other – young, but gaunt and pale and dressed in fatigues, stared with undisguised hatred burning in her bloodshot eyes.

“Fanatics.” ORP Rota snarled, under her breath.

Severn turned to face her compatriot, and sighed. “Still on that, eh?”

“If it were my choice I wouldn’t be here.” Rota shot back. “I was ordered here.”

“I see.” Severn turned away, bringing her eyes back to the moon. “Well, shit mood or not, still glad to see you here.”

The murder died in Rota’s eyes, and she lowered her eyes to the sand. “...I suppose. Yeah. It’s been awhile, Severn. What’re you doing here? What’re you up to now?”

“Oil freighters, along with Patuxent, if you remember her. On leave, specifically – I’m not sure why, but we’ve got to pass by the Free Lands on our way to the LNG terminals over on the East Coast and the Gulf of Mexico. You’re…a museum ship, right?”

Rota nodded. “Aye, aye.”

“Poor you.” Severn grunted, as she leaned back and kicked out her rubber work-boots. “I hate kids.”

“You don’t know half of it. Pompous academics. Spoiled fucking children with their little fucking ice creams. Day in, day out.”

“Yeowch.”

“Aye.” Rota sighed. “Makes me envy ‘er.” She nodded at a somewhat distant figure – brown hair, bright blue eyes that sparkled with laughter and joy, pale skin, swimsuit and daisy-dukes.

“Your niece?”

“Aye.” Rota nodded. “Visby. Good name, that. One of the Hansa-towns. Gets to go out and do real things instead of sitting in harbor all day -- Italy, the Baltics... She does stuff with her hull that was science fiction back in my time.”

“Ain’t that the truth.” Severn nodded, and smiled. “Passed by USS Nimitz the other day. Still recognized me and came out of her high and mighty office to snap me a salute. Think of that, will you? A carrier giving a tanker a salute! Enterprise the First would’ve blown her top.”

Rota chuckled. “Aye. World’s turned upside down since then, hasn’t it?”

“Aye. It has.”

Aurelia (Kyrenaian Yacht).
A yacht among warships always had a rough standing: Freighters were essential for trade, work ships like dredgers built harbours, others had other tasks... but what was a yacht to do? I was, at the end of the day, in the eyes of most attendees, a pleasure vessel.
In other words, a whore of the seas.
Not as big as, say, a cruise liner, but still.
Even other civilian ships looked sometimes down upon us, sometimes with scorn, sometimes with pity, sometimes with rage – but today, on this beach filled with Kanmusu from all over the place, the majority of them military in one way or the other, today...
...today...!
Today I would show them all.
I was not alone in that quest, several other civilian vessels had decided to join me in providing the catering, Screamh was cooking as well, Hurscht Südstern and Lachtach were getting materials to cook in, Roofen had brought other cooking materials and most importantly, Ninai brought the drinks.
The pointy-eared vixen with the little dog at the side would man the bar and the first group of customers was already there – carriers. The three Kyrenaian drone carriers Kyra, Xezal and Yara had invited every carrier for drinks, and the first were trickling in. Qallu, one of the Kyrenaian Demon Group, was laughing about an anecdote retold by Naya, an old Teressian Carrier, who grinned at the memory herself.
I smiled and then came over, a tablet with small bowls filled with crispy nuts on my hand.
“Ah, the Princess of Kyrenaian Yachts!”, Qallu greeted me with a wide grin, “How do you do?”
“I'm well, thank you, Miss Qallu.”, I returned, placed the nuts down. “I hope, that people will like the Kibbeh, the Kisir and the fried balls I am currently making.”
“Oh, don't worry, girlie!”, Naya told me, “If you are even half as good as Qallu has been suggesting, then it's going to be a feast! That being said, I thought, you'd be serving Selkie...”
I smiled. There was that thing, eh? I was an SDY-Girl, built by Bád Industries.
“Miss Screamh is already doing Selkie-Cuisine, no need to have more then necessary. And I think, that Miss Lachtach wanted to do something of Archipelago-Cuisine.”, I told the two, “Be as it may, I think Miss Caja also saw to it, that no one would go hungry today.”
Naya nodded with a smile.
“With that many kiddos around, good luck!”, she said and raised her glass.
I bowed lightly.

RKN Karkadann.
Tall, muscular, grey hair bound back into a long ponytails, green eyes – that was me.
The Monster of Salalkubz, the Lord of the Desert, the Sand Wyvern, RKN Karkadann. Commissioned in 1940, decommissioned in 1955, between that a long and illustrious career, including participating in the Decolonization Wars and in Operation Bandit in 1948. I remember my Esfwrs diving out of the sky on positions of the rebels near Allaazwrd-Area, hitting them, where it really hurt.
They had killed 19 civilians in Sinope in a terrorist attack, we were avenging them.
While such things were long behind me, war and terror bombings, revenge and counterstrike, I, as one of the first carriers of the RKN built from the keel up as a carrier, had also been a bit of a testbed and that had resulted in my early retirement.
Plus, jets.
But still, I was around.
Wearing a double-strapped bikini, black and red. I did not exactly have the fuel tanks many of my colleagues had.
And there was this kid, who I had been sent to fetch for the carrier-meetup. I contemplated leaving him where he was, not because and his escort looked cute or something, but because he was not only wearing uniform, but also a Nazi uniform.
Oh, some of the insignia were missing, that of course made it all better.
Not.
The Kyrenaian Colonial Empire, when it existed, had its moments of racism, yes, but never to the extend of the mother-humping Nazis. They had been despised by Kian-Sultan and everyone else, essentially, when their sick and twisted ideology had made its debut and that still was a foundation of our foreign politics: Not a foot to Fascists or Nazis and those associating themselves with them.
Even my modern name-successor knew that.
There was a reason, why we didn't get along well with the Astarians or the Pittenmarkians.
I wore a vicious snarl, as I cleared my throat.
“NCS Atlas, I presume?”, I addressed the kid in Nazi-Uniform coldly, “I have been sent to invite you, as a carrier, to the little carrier-meetup Kyra, Xezal and Yara have organized by the bar.” I let a beat pass. “Be aware, that this invitation is a courtesy, owing to your status as a carrier, and that basically everyone present would prefer you take a one-way trip to the Hutam Riffs due to... both to your choice of attire...” My eyes fell on Koikaze. “...and association.”
Once my message was delivered, I turned on my heels and walked towards said bar, not even pretending to care about his response – if he came, he came, if not, all the better. I needed a freaking drink to wash down the putrid taste.

SDFS Bruinneall.
“Visby!”, I called over as soon as I spotted her.
Blonde, blue eyes, reasonably tall, I had swapped my usual green armoured dress and really high boots, plus the weaponry I usually carried, for a green halterneck bikini with side-tie bottoms, a translucent sarong and sandals, plus a small cooler.
I grinned as I approached.
Visby looked beautiful, if you asked me, and by the look my associate had, he would agree.
Srublao, the blonde shipboy (emphasis on boy, he was a Scoth), wore a green silken band around his wrist, a similar band in my hair, serving as a bow. I had named him my Champion for the little gunnery competition Caja wanted to host later and he beamed so widely, that I almost feared his face would split in two halves.
He crushed on me, which was not a problem. He was a decent lad.
He also recognized the beauty, that was Visby – sure, she was not a bombshell (and neither was I, if I was honest), but she was pretty.
“It is awesome, that you had the chance to make your way over!”, I told her and opened my arms for a hug. “Now come here!”

SDFS Rhiannon (a.k.a. Old Lady Rhi, don't call her that if you value your life).
I had attended the ceremony – for me, it was not a thing of fanaticism or even extremism, but... well, as someone inside the system, the system did not seem wrong. I had of course not heard Rota's comment and, as I had been more focussed on the ceremony, I had missed Rota and Severn not bowing their heads.
To be reasonably honest, I did not care if they did or didn't, that was their decision. They were not alone in that decision, though, a lot of the Teressians had not done so.
And so, as the party was starting, I split off.
My name-successor, the modern SDFS Rhiannon, was drawing quite a lot of attention, her wearing a white bikini, that barely qualified as swimwear and more as lingerie (thanks to the overabundance of lace trimmings), surely helped in that. Then again, she was named after a Fertility Deity.
Then again, so was I.
Light Cruiser, tall, blonde and blue eyes – my long hair was bound back by a white ribbon, my usual attire (which emphasized how little armour I had back in the day), was swapped for a green halterneck one-piece swimsuit with a deep cleavage and golden highlights, a light white overcoat, which hung over my shoulders and sandals.
I was the designated life guard for the First Shift.
Yes, we were ship spirits, but aside from the old Teressian joke, that non-swimmers defended their ships longer, accidents did happen. We did not need accidents to happen.
I nodded to Severn and Rota as I passed them, recognizing the latter as another Old Lady, a Grande Dame of her Navy – and as a fellow museum ship. Luckily, I had managed to get ice creams banned from my decks.
I sighed and turned to the bay.
Many ships were here, not as many as there were ship-spirits of various traditions and descriptions, but that was to be expected. A lot of beach furniture was being spread out, though, but also towels and, maybe more importantly, construction sites for sand castles of various sizes.
And there were some playing in the surf.
“Morning. Beautiful day, innit?”, I asked the pair.
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

Naval Yard Cartreffa Island, Settlement.

One is never too old for sun and fun! Especially for the once darling of the seas, the grandest shiplady (older shipgirl) of all of the ocean liners. It is no surprise that Fascination (SS) is one of the most elegant and stylish ships to be with. Now, most of her days consist of her telling stories to other ships of her grand time throughout world history, but today, with permission from the museum curator, she is allowed out to meet up with other ships in a festival somewhere in The Freelands. This is not her first time abroad since the old days, as it was in 2021, she was a guest at the Broodeheim Harbour Festival in Riderli to share her stories with others unfamiliar. She represents the tradition that modern Cartoon Ocean and Cruise Liners carry throughout the seas.

“Yup!” She exclaims, her short maroon hair flapping through the breeze, dressed in her old-timey bathing suit, which was a maroon-colored tank top and shorts. “I still got it! You don’t see such an ol’ gal swim like that nowadays now do ya, darling!”

“Well, I don’t. I’m impressed that you can still keep up with the latest in maritime technology. Those fuel tanks must give a lot of range” Another woman replies to her, her own long blue hair slapping through the breeze. Contrasting Fascination’s own swimsuit, she wears a simple black bikini, and wrapped around her bottom is a blue sarong wrap (she usually wears her naval uniform with full naval battery, which currently is the tropical service uniform, but she left it back at the wooden house they were staying at). Unlike Fascination, this ship was much newer. She was a marvel of 1980s naval technology, constantly being upgraded for the present era of naval warfare. She is a modern cruiser by the name of Rosemary (CNS). She is one of the “Village” Class Cruisers built by the Cartoon Navy in the early eighties, though unlike Fascination hasn’t seen much battle and history. Though she was built as an ocean liner, Fascination participated in two major conflicts as a troop transport ship. And it shows, with several battle scars on her arm, back, and close to her eyes after encountering several submarine attacks. This does make her a bit fragile, considering her age as well. But, she doesn’t show weakness, she is still as strong as ever, all thanks to preservation efforts.

“Well my dear, when you become over 100 years old like me, everything seems both easier and harder at the same time. Which is why I am glad the navy has sent you to “escort” me”.

“The Cartoon government does want to show off its’ naval ability, and they think this festival would be able to do that. Plus, they wanted to present two ships, the modern naval warship, and the charming tradition of maritime class and elegance”.

“Oh, you’re too kind, darling. Though, it is true that I am elegant and classy”. These two arrived in the Freelands in a day ago in the evening and were checked into the resort. It was the first time that they are seen in the daylight. Fascination is one of the oldest, a ship from the golden age of ocean travel. Though not the only one, she was a sight to behold, a bit of elegancy with a dash of deviance. She might be the only one to stand out with her bathing suit. Meanwhile, Rosemary has more of a regular look to her, as she is one of many of her class, though she herself in unique in her own right.

Everybody has heard of sister ships right? You have Titanic's famous sisters (one who met an untimely fate just the same) and so on and so forth, what about parent/child lines? Not something you hear in shipping but well here we are. Arashi, the first ship of Kenzaki, a ship company emerging from the ashes of AHSCA's bloody war for freedom, an experiment of sorts to match the Luddite attitudes of islanders, to match the classiness of a bygone era of seafaring. After her came newer and improved models, first with Otome, the big sister and apple of her mother's eye, beautiful cute and youthful for sure. And now more recently you have Uta, cute, small, still growing as a child. Meaningful names, Arashi, which can mean storm, gale and so on, which honestly didn't fit her cordial personality. You look at her, a beautiful woman, she hardly had an ill temperament, but she was no-nonsense. Protective of her two girls for sure. She was watching the endless horizon of the sea a bit lost in thought. Puffing on a long pipe. The serenity of the beach was comforting

Otome, meaning maiden, right now Otome was a bit busy fitting into a new bathing suit bought for the occasion, it seemed to fit well but still she was a bit fussy about her appearance as most teenagers are. Her hair had to be just so, plenty of guys (and girls) around to make a good impression for.

Uta, meaning song, because she always had a song. she was a bit lost in thought looking at the tide pools on the beach and the little critters that inhabited them. "ooooh" She moaned softly in intrigue watching the pools of shallow water. Uta was fashioned in a cute one piece suit that matched her dark hair, combined with a frilled bottom. Taking a notice of her daughter, "Uta, what do you see?" Arashi patted her little head "Lots and lots of little things."

"The sea is home to so many things isn't that right? Oh where is your sister now?"

"Last I saw she still was in the change room."

"Whaha, still? Goodness me, how long she going to be?"

"I don't know. She said she's gotta look perfect."

"That girl, she's so worried" Speaking of, here she came now "There you are, darling. All set?"

"Sure! it's a party I don't see any problem with looking my best."

"It's also a beach party, dear. Relax and enjoy yourself. We've come a very long way to be here after all, and many others like us will be here."

"It's gonna be fun." Uta nodded with her little fists balled up

“Aye. It has.”

ORP Visby
"Bruinneall!" Visby called, waving at her friend as she approached "How have you been?"
She blushed slightly at the sight of her and smiled; between her own charms and her choice of clothes, she looked positively radiant.

The sight of Srublao, however, more than slightly puzzled her. "Who's the kid?" she asked, before her eyes widened in mock-concern. "Is he yours?" she continued on, shooting her a wink as she asked that question.

ORP Rota | USS/MV Severn

Severn nodded. "Aye, yes, beautiful day." she responded. "Who'se you, eh?" She noted the choice of attire and more or less ignored it -- it was no more odd than her decision to keep on her (admittedly unfashionable) work-clothes. "The name's USS Severn, for the record."

"Rota." Rota added, her eyes briefly darting up from the sand. "ORP Rota. At your service..."
Her eyes narrowed. "...You're Rhiannon, yes? The elder one."

Severn gave a deep, deep sigh. "This shit again?" she mumbled, barely audible -- but still audible.

Atlas and Koikaze looked at Karkadann with bewilderment. Is this the kind of treatment they expected from the Kyraneian ship? Just by her tone, she sounded definitely rude.

The couple looked at each other and nodded onething: they will simply enjoy the festival as usual, unless circumstances and conditions occur. Such circumstances and conditions included an unfriendly environment, the Admiralty recalling the two due to events they were unaware of, or anything else that matters.

And considering the carrier meet-up would likely contain a very unfriendly environment, Koikaze said to Atlas, "Atlas-san, maybe it is best you do not accept the invitation. I don't think it would end well for you."

Atlas nodded, replying, "I will, Koikaze. I will." With his mind set to not join the meeting, the carrier-heavy cruiser couple soon begin finding a place for the two to stay in. Of course, however, they will avoid any and all interactions with with Karkadann.

The two ships brought themselves their own bags, each having their own clothes. Oh and the two also brought their smartphones (if there is any internet connection at all) and laptops (one for each of the two ships).

Miss Leiwand.
One of the odd things about me and my fellow Teressian Kanmusu, I thought, was the seriousness they behaved themselves with – their language was this casually elegant and understatedly meticulous dialect, which was always associated with the Prince's Court.
That was true for the capital ships and all which fancied themselves as such.
And then, there were the more... rustically minded vessels, like the monitors Krügel and Tschecherl, and those, who carved their own paths, like Hammacker.
She was a Large Cruiser from 1941, a reasonably tall woman in a black bikini, over which she wore a black leather jacket, who had once been one of the most modern cruisers in Aranna – a cruiser killer and a cruiser, who had killed. She was also a bloody good mechanic, owning her own little shop, in which she maintained bikes and cars and sometimes other vehicles.
And more importantly, she drove them, too, and not only that, she sometimes seemed to be more comfortable on land then on the sea.
Her wide smile as she drove onto the beach in her HMW GW-99 Amphibious Truck spoke volumes.
Of course, the speed was a crawl, but she still had fun and I could understand why, especially as we delivered more good – drinks, food, cooking ingredients and, of course, fire wood for the large grill fire in the evening.
Plus, a few more pieces of beach furniture.
She stopped next to the food preparation area, Screamh stood at the door already. The heterochromatic eyes of the ocean liner (she was very insistent, that she was an ocean liner and not a cruise liner) sparkling.
“Thank you for the transport, Miss Hammacker.”, the not-yet-commissioned ocean liner told her as we stepped out of the raised cabin.
“Thank not only me, but also Roofen!”, Hammacker demanded with a smile, “She brought my baby along for the ride.” She motioned for Screamh to follow her, I was on my way to the back as well, in order to help unload. “Mind you, the roads here are fun, too.”
“Going on a joyride later today?”, our hostess Caja the Installation Type asked.
“Eh... maybe.”, Hammacker replied with a grin, “Maybe even play shuttle to the firing range for the gunnery competition. But I will make a joyride tomorrow! Wanna come along?”
Caja looked hesitant. “I would love to, but...” Hammacker raised an eyebrow. “...can I tell you tomorrow?”
“Sure.”, Hammacker said as we all arrived at the truck's back. “But for now... unloading!”

SDFS Searc.
I had swapped my usual school uniform for a yellow bikini top, black bottoms and a pair of hot pants, a thigh band with a golden heart on my left thigh and despite me being 89 Springs of age, I still rocked it!
That might have something to do with me being a Kanmusu, timelessly beautiful and blessed or cursed to never age, even after my hull was scrapped and the only thing remaining of myself was my bell.
That was why Lodan Lir was not among us anymore: When the Lutetiians sank him in 1983, in the opening minutes of the Second Vellenge War, they had destroyed his bell, his heart.
But that were thoughts for other days.
Today was a day for party and many people were here to do so, and I had just spotted someone, who I could maybe swap a few stories from the good old days with – Fascination was an old ocean liner and that was obvious in more then just her looks and swimsuit, but also by her calling her companion 'darling' every now and again.
Well, she was even older then I was, while her companion Rosemary was younger by a few decades.
“Indeed, Ma'am, you have a certain elegance and classical appeal.”, I complimented as I stepped up to the two, “While nothing speaks against the more utilitarian design aspects of work ships or even us military vessels.” I threw Rosemary a small wink, before I bowed my head. “SDFS Searc, of the Cailleach-class Light Cruisers. I hope, that I do not intrude?”

SDFS Cailín.
We heard of sister ships, I had two myself, but parent ships?
Only when small ships were concerned, motherships, or when it was about design descendants, like the Rhiannon-II-class Frigates were descendants of the Rhiannon-IB-class, which in turn was a descendant of the Rhiannon-I-class Frigates, or when it was about name descendants, like my name was from a planned class of heavy cruisers from the 30s.
For us, it was only natural for the older shipgirls and shipboys to look out for their younger kinsfolk. Miss Rhi was a good example for that and we loved her for that, as was Big Sis Bruineall and of course my oldest sister Maighdean.
Be that all as it may be, Miss Arashi looked quite mature, the big sis or mother figure to her two design descendants – Otome looked pretty, some of the cootie-infested boys would be head over heel, but she was not my aim.
Balling her little fists and looking cute, Uta had been acquired by my radars, locked on and identified.
I smiled as I rushed in, not quite at 36 knots, but close enough.
“Hey, you must be Uta, I'm Cailín, wanna join the Sea Explorers?!”, I asked her, maybe a bit of an ambush, but...
...heaving, her red braid swinging from side to side, another Kanmusu came up behind me. Gabhdán-class Fast Combat Replenishment Ship or not, the red haired and blue eyed woman in the black bikini with white highlights could not keep up with a dedicated nuclear powered cruiser.
“I'm sorry...”, she brought out breathlessly, heaved a few times, hands on her knees, then looked at Arashi, “...gimme a second, please...”
I grinned at Uta. “That's Big Sis Miúil! She's a Sea Explorer, too, and she has the bestest ice cream!”
Miúil blushed and still heaved.

SDFS Bruinneall.
I laughed.
“In a way, yes.”, I said grinned at Visby as we separated, “If I may introduce, my Champion for the gunnery competition, SDFS Srublao.”
“Of the Scoth-class Corvettes. It is a great pleasure, Ma'am.”, he said politely, blushing slightly and bowing his head, “Bruinneall has spoken very fondly of you.”
I nodded. “Yeah... our little tour off Italy has been the talk of Wembury for a while. But...” I turned to the boy. “...how about you get the three of us something to drink? Meanwhile, Visby and I catch up a bit.”
“Sure.”, the Corvette-Boy said with a nod, then turned to Visby, “Anything you would like or wouldn't like, Miss Visby?”
Once he had an answer, he'd depart.

SDFS Rhiannon (a.k.a. Old Lady Rhi, don't call her that if you value your life).
I heard Severn's “This shit again?”, it was a lot easier to miss then her deep, deep sigh, but I ignored both. Whatever 'this shit' was, I hoped, that it would either be nothing of my concern or that she'd explain in her own time.
Instead, I decided to answer Rota.
“Indeed I am, and designated life guard.”, I told her with a bow, “It is a pleasure to meet you, Miss Rota, Miss Severn.” I smiled and winked at Rota. “Either my reputation precedes me or us museum ships are drawn together...”

Novaya Equestria wrote:Atlas and Koikaze looked at Karkadann with bewilderment.

SDFS Srublao.
With my mission in mind, I had departed Bruineall and her friend, Miss Visby, towards the bar, where I'd be sure to get what they wanted (and what I wanted, Bruineall had made it clear, that I should not forget myself).
In the meantime, my comms suite picked up the presence of mobile telephone masts, WiFi and a few other sources of electromagnetic radiation – seriously, was that Cailín blasting her radar?!
In any case, as I walked, I came across that weird couple, the lad in a quite heavy and unsuited looking uniform, which I had seen somewhere in the past, the two of them looking a bit like beaten dogs.
I had no idea about their meeting with Karkadann and if I were to be honest, that old Kyrenaian punt was none of my concern.
Still, they looked kinda sad and lonely, so I stopped by them and said: “Hey, pal and gal-pal, if ya two need some company, go to join Bruineall and Visby – I'll be there in a moment as well, with something to drink.” I slapped the lad onto the shoulder. “And I'll make sure to make it something cool for you, pal, you look like you'll need it sooner then you think!”
And with that, I departed the two, grinning over my shoulder and then turning forward.

Cartreffa Island, Settlement

Clear skies dominated the surroundings of the entire island, something to be maintained hopefully for their stay. The two Pergamonic Navy ships headed to the Settlement after changing into their swimwear, free from their riggings which now stood in the confines of the nearby Harbour. Persephone, the lead battleship of her class, wore a contemporary one-shoulder one-piece swimsuit with a cut out on the right side of her torso and shades of bright red, contrasting that of her usual outfit of dark blue. Her companion, a destroyer named Chaldea, wore a futuristic two-piece of black and vivid blue with a unique halter. They sauntered to the bar, ordered their drinks, and picked a table closest to the shore. Observers who noted them could determine on the spot they were mother and daughter, despite it being the opposite.

"How nice of the Navy to send us here. This is such a nice place," Persephone remarked as she gazed at the clean, blue waters, which were reminiscent to the Aegean.

"I wish we could've brought more," Chaldea sighed before taking a sip of her drink.

"At least there's Mazaca, but he's late as it seems," Persephone drinks.

"I think I'm going to go for a swim after I'm done."

Persephone notes the bag she brought.

"Why'd you have to buy so much gum?"

"I'd give it for free to any one I see. That's my reason."

"There was another."

"Now, I'm sticking with a new reason."

Persephone sighed, then chuckled as she shook her head.

"If you must have it so, let someone make haste to loosen these sandals that serve as my footwear today."

Chaldea stared, then rolled her eyes as Persephone conveyed this phrase. It was obvious to her where it came from. The Oresteia's Agamemnon, one of Persephone's favorite plays.

Both continued to drink and converse about other topics.

One Week Earlier...

Aubise paced back and forth within the room, his footsteps doing all they could to drown out the awkward silence. Sitting in front of him was a well-dressed man, much older and much bigger than him.

"Look, with all due respect-"

Andro interrupted him quickly, his cigarette smoke blowing directly towards the others face. "We've been over this, I don't wanna hear it. It's already done."

Aubise threw his hands up in the air in disbelief. "This is insane! That kid's a- I don't even wanna call her a kid, she's not a person. That thing is a.. fuckin'... dangerous piece of technology. Do you have any idea what's gonna happen if you give that drunk idiot free will!?"

His friend and mentor took another long puff of his smoke, and blew it towards the window. He knew who, or what, was watching them behind the one-way glass. "Aub, it'll be fine. I've already spoken with Dr. Sorvatsanos, he's done a complete psychological evaluation on her. Even he said it would be of her benefit to interact with her own.. kind."

"Psychological evaluation..." The other man muttered. "It's not human, for fucks sake! No psychological evaluation is gonna work on that thing. We don't know how it thinks, how it feels. Everything it's saying could just be horseshit. Lying to us, deceiving us. Don't you get that?"

"If you don't like her so much, shouldn't you be happy that she'll be gone? Out of your hair?" He put his cigarette out in the ash tray.

"It's not that I..." Aubise sighed, struggling to find the proper words. "Look, if that thing can help us, if it can somehow give us an advantage should things get any worse with Kneriod and his fuck-buddies, I would rather it be here, in Aaaaaa, then doing God-knows-what with its little friends."

Andro pushed himself from the desk and shuffled out of his seat. "It's only gonna be for a little while. C'mon, let's go outside, I've gotta get some clean air. How's Noeanyyn, by the way? You said you were concerned with her driving race cars?"

"You're trying to distract me." Aubise responded as the two exited the interrogation room. As they left, both men shot a glance towards the girl sitting quietly next to the window.

They finally did it. After years upon years of research, working with top secret formulas, ancient texts buried miles below Amlianane's famed Spires, and classified blueprints appropriated from nations with similar beings, Aaaaaan scientists working day and night under an officially non-existent wing of the government had finally cracked the code. They discovered the power to harness an aquatic vessels "soul", its very being, to create the notorious creatures known as Shipgirls. Impossible, deadly lifeforms that seemingly defy all known laws of reality. However, whereas other countries have created them out of massive warships, Aaaaaa's naval fleet consists of a couple outdated patrol boats. And one of those boats was chosen to be the "experiment".

According to nearly every soul who had knowledge of the project, what a massive fucking waste of time and money.

CEA An. A small watercraft less than 9 meters long, used for identifying hazards and sand dunes underwater, as well as for the occasional rescue operation. It was not the typical battleship one would expect to become a Kanmusu, as they are oftentimes called. Regardless, a ship's a ship, and a shipgirl's a shipgirl. An, as everyone part of the project simply called her, knew she was not a "normal" kanmusu (if such a being could even be called "normal" under any context), and certain members of the team were eager to point this out, often out of malice. All those months ago, the team was ecstatic when the project was making new headways. They envisioned a shipgirl capable of destroying the entire Aurnvon army. Any soldier within a few miles of the shore would surely be decimated.

Instead, they got an often drunk, whiny brat. No one on the team had the bright idea to realize you needed an actual warship for its two-legged equivalent to possess the same firepower. That left An at a permanent disadvantage. Her human form barely stood up to five feet and was far weaker than the average shipgirl. She had no weaponry to manifest, only the underwater surveying equipment installed on the boat at the time of her creation. Even other shipgirls not created with warring in mind were far better suited to the oceans of the world than her, someone whose been restricted to the Helidaedros Lake and the few rivers that run through it all her short life.

She thought about all this for a moment. "If they hate me, why did they even create me?"

She shook her head. No, that's nonsense. They don't hate her, they're just.. disappointed in her. But she can do better, right? She can practice shooting a gun. She remembered hearing one of her "handlers" suggesting that. Surely they wouldn't hate her, if they let her take a trip like this? ... Unless, they just wanted to get rid of her. Start off new, abandon that useless pile of junk and create a true to form, bonafide shipgirl capable of annihilating every Aurnvon that dared cross paths with the Glorious Aaaaaan Army-

She shook her head again. She's been sent here to mingle with others like her. Why wallow in self-pity when there's a pristine beach waiting to be relaxed on? It's not like the stupid humans will care-

She took her head a third time, but this one was for a different reason. She felt something she had never felt before, something nagging inside her that she couldn't quite pinpoint.

But then she realized it. It was her sensors, indicating that other kanmusu were near. It was an entirely new sensation, in equal parts incredible and terrifying. She gripped her duffle bag tightly. It was the only thing they gave her to take. Inside was an extra pair of clothes, a pair of binoculars, and few stale sandwiches (which she had to argue for, since the team thought feeding something that didn't go hungry was a waste of food).

And no swimsuit.

The two were surprises by Srublao's reception party. And before either of the two gets to respond, she left. Not wanting to be left unanswered, Atlas followed Srublao and said, "Before you leave, we need to find ourselves a place to reside in."

He gestures to the two bags he and Koikaze brought with them. "Can you show us the way to the place we'd like to reside in," said Koikaze to Srublao. The two don't really seem sad, but they are quite upbeat if anything.

"We'd appreciate it if you show us the way, Koikaze added, "we wouldn't want to be wearing these clothes all day." She flashed a smile. "Otherwise we'd wash them ourselves," Atlas added, looking at his Fusoan gf.

If the two were led to a place they would be loving and sharing together, considering Atlas and Koikaze were in a relationship, they would be able to change to their casual attires.

SDFS Rhiannon (the younger one).
In hindsight, the white bikini with the lace trimmings had not been a good idea.
Don't get me wrong, I rocked it, even if my older name-sister heartily disapproved, but the amount of attention I got was... I wanted to be known as a good and diligent flagship, not as that one hot lass, who did the paperwork.
I should have thought that out better.
And, if I ever get the chance, I'll shove a Type 40 up Abhcan's arse – and I mean a literal Type 40 Anti-Ship Missile up her equally literal arse. That had been her idea.
I should have known better, considering the Vixen's sense of humour.
Blonde hair open, blue eyes, a sharply cut face, that lent itself more easily to frowns then to smiles and, of course, the aforementioned lace-trimmed white bikini, which left some things to the imagination, but less then the one-piece of my older name-sister.
I found myself at the bar, at a table close to shore, where two girls were already sitting.
Having run around all morning, helping Caja with the last preparations, had tired me out a bit, so maybe the chance to sit down for a moment was not bad... and with a good bit of the bar area occupied by the Carrier Meetup, there weren't many left.
“Good morning.”, I greeted the two of them, one in a more futuristic two-piece, the other in a bright red one-shoulder one-piece, which looked quite interesting, too. I smiled, even if there was a note of pain in it. “Rhi's the name. Mind if I have a short sit-down with you two? Next round would be on me, too.”
They did not need to know, that Caja had decreed everything being for free today...

Marcharnnau.
To some, being an Independent Kanmusu was not something, that was, a category for those, who were not of the military. For others, like me, it was a way of life and being.
Thug life didn't choose me, I chose thug life.
Or Independent Kanmusu Life.
I'm Marcharnnau, Capall na dTonn, looking back on four centuries of age and experience, and, by now, unofficial leader of the Wealth-Redistribution Squadron of the Gainimh-Islands. Yes, I am a pirate.
To this day, though I could be booked nowadays for tourists: I'd 'raid' ships as a tourist attraction, collect my 'ransom' and then be on my merry way, a few hundred more photographs of me on the web.
On days, where there was no tourist ships to raid, I liked to relax, a woman with the pointy ears so distinctive of Selkie-Kanmusu, horns reaching out from my head like some sort of Kyrenaian Demon... and I was a very short woman, who, to paraphrase a friend, had her height as a breast circumfence. And in a white bikini with frills, one was hard-pressed to miss that.
I didn't miss the girl, who shook her head three times, who carried a duffel bag and who looked a bit out of place. By her looks, I'd call her a corvette, but something in the back of my head told me, that she was smaller then a sloop, smaller then the minesweepers the Water Polices used as patrol boats, and decidedly smaller then me.
Still, I smiled at her as I passed her, together with my fellow shortstack Ganembearn (grey hair, green eyes, cute red bikini and what I had in circumfence, she lacked), and said: “Hey, there – are you new around here? Need a bit of help?”

SDFS Srublao.
For starters, I'm a male.
Granted, not a manly male like Maor, but a male nonetheless, as best examplified by me wearing swimming trunks. And no, the male swimwear challenge is disgusting and everyone participating it should scuttle themselves.
That being said, I raised an eyebrow, not because of that, but because they basically thought, that I was the porter or receptionist or something.
“Caja hands out the keys to the bungalows upon arrival.”, I told them, “If you have the keys, there should be a tag with the address, shouldn't be too hard to find, the Settlement isn't that large.” I let a beat pass. “If you don't have the keys, you should report to Caja... she should be around here somewhere. Pale girl, silver hair, red eyes, quite a bit short.” I shrugged. “And if you just need a place to change, changing cabins are over there.”
I motioned to the middle distance, where, a couple of dozen metres from the bar, were indeed four changing cabins, simple wooden things, but effective at their job.
“See ya in a minute!”, I said and went off.

The trio of gals discussed a bit more amongst each other what to potentially do next, but their conversation was soon interrupted by a fast moving gal by the name of Cailín, who rather enthuastically eyed Uta. Uta was a bit surprised and at a loss for words at first, by the looks of this cute girl, she was probably military grade, and military grade seldom mingled with the UIS Steamers but well who can dampen on the surprise friendliness "Um well --" She was prepare to answer yes, not even knowing what the group was or purpose but before her answer came the next set of introductions, her big sister, Miúil.

"Take your time, dear" Arashi urged to Cailin so she wouldn't overdue herself and system.

"Your big sister? Oh my big sister! Otome!" She pointed at her own sister to introduce her as well as long as sisters were involved. "You already know me as Uta, so good to meet you, Cailín. Oh yeah, I want to join, it sounds fun and you were nice enough to ask. Plus, I like ice cream."

"Well Uta, sounds like you found yourself a little squad you did." Arashi smirked, how adorable!

"If it's all right?"

"Of course it is."

Their conversation about the oddities and comedic moments of their last exercise in Cyprus was interrupted by the appearance and greeting of a modern Selkie frigate. Greeting her back, they stared at her before taking sips. She was beautiful, and her swimwear seemed to level that up. Chaldea shared a soft, incredulous whistle upon eying her drink, while Persephone widened her straightened mouth as she raised her eyebrow from her seemingly blank eyes. They both took a deep breath to appreciate another sip, and Persephone leaned back to face Rhiannon, Chaldea took out her smartphone and texted Mazaca in time before the Selkie shipgirl gave her name, asked, and insisted that the next round of refreshments be on her.

"Not at all, Rhi, and thank you. Be nobler for giving in willingly," Persephone replied and smiled, "I am Persephone, battleship of the Pergamonic Navy. Across from me is the guided missile destroyer Chaldea, whom she likes to refer to me as 'Grandma.'"

"Even 'Actress,'" remarked Chaldea, which made Persephone chuckle.

"And, what are you?"

As she stared absentmindedly into her bag, An heard a voice behind her, causing a momentary startle.
"Eh? Oh, yeah." She turned around, and saw two women, her sensors immediately notifying (or perhaps, warning) her that they were fellow shipgirls.

"I'm used like a fucking babysitter... Why do I gotta take care of the walking boat."

An sat on a few logs overlooking the shore. It was a cloudy, autumn afternoon. Aunaseb paced back and forth, as was custom whenever he was dealing with her. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a cigar. An stared at him, eyes moving side to side as he paced.

"I am not a 'walking boat'." She shot back, glaring at him directly through his aviators. She hated when he called her that, even though it was technically true.

"No, you're right. You're less than that - I shouldn't give you so much credit." He flicked open a lighter and ignited the cigar. "If you were just a boat, you'd know your place. You're a tool. You're under our command. Which brings me to this..." He approached An and picked up a small bag next to the logs. "What is this?" He pulled out an empty beer bottle. An stayed silent, preferring to stare down at her feet.

"Yeah, that's what I thought. What the fuck are you doing stealing beer? Are you retarded? Are you braindead? Do you know how much shit you could have got into?"

Her voice was soft and frail. "I thought...-"

"Nonono, you didn't think at all." He shoved the bottle back into the bag. "You need to start learning some fucking manners. You've been, unjustly as far as I'm concerned, granted a field trip to the Free Lands to do whatever you boat things do, and you show your appreciation by drinking our fucking beer?"

He dropped the bag, glass smashing as it hit the dirt. "You're a part of the Aaaaaan Coast Guard. Part of the Aaaaaan military... theoretically. You need to be representing us well. The Free Lands, they've been very good to us, you know?" Sticking the cigar back in his mouth, he rummaged around in his pockets until he found a crumpled ball of paper. "Here," He threw it at An, hitting her in the head and landing in her lap. She returned another death glare at him as she opened it up. "read the first part to me." He said, coughing on the cigar.

"... Greetings. CEA An, channel surveyor and patrol ship belonging to the Coast Equesum of Thy*Gedno*dom*Armata - The Aaaaaan Armed Forces, at your service. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance." She stared at the letter, and looked up. "Is this, like... etiquette tips? You can't be serious!"

"Go back inside and read all of it. Considering it your punishment for... this." He pointed down at the bottles. "I've written down some helpful tips in courtesy and proper social manners... Can't believe I have to train you like some fuckin' dog..."

"Ah! I mean-" She cleared her throat, but before she could say anything else, the sheer... boldness of their appearances caught her off guard. An knew of Aaaaaa's generally prudish culture, and knew an outfit like they were wearing would inevitably lead to someone calling the police for public indecency back home - regardless if they were at a beach. She waved the thought off.

Faking a smile, An attempted a curtsy. It didn't look right, since she was wearing pants. She looked the two women in the eyes and forced her most feminine sounding voice. "G-greetings. CEA An, channel surveyor and patrol ship belonging to the Coast Equesum of... um..." She trailed off for a moment. "... the Aaaaan Armed Forces, at your service. It is a pleasure to make your acquaintance." She felt like an absolute fool saying all this, but if it stops her from giving Aaaaaa a bad reputation, then she had no choice. "And with whom do I have the pleasure of speaking with?"

SDFS Rhiannon (the younger one).
Scáinte Clothes Emporium, Wembury. Two weeks prior.

“I look like I make adult movies for a living!”, I complained.
Holding the curtain so that only my head peeked out of the fitting room, I must have made a miserable sight as I looked at the two, who I'd taken shopping with me.
We wanted to visit Caja and despite it being a sort-of work visit, we would make sure to spend at least one day on the beach. And that meant swimsuit shopping.
My little sister Abhcan was a woman, who, true to her namesake's nickname, the deity Abhcan being called the Vixen, had big, fluffy fox ears, a fox tail, both in brown, her heterochromatic eyes looking at me sternly. She wore her new swimsuit still, having opted to not change as of now, the combination of green thong and green top with nice, large cups to contain her cup content leaving enough for the second person's imagination to allow him to fantasize while I changed...
...and there was one of the core problems: Him. Never take a guy clothes shopping, least of all underwear or swimwear shopping, with a guy, who doesn't know his place as pack mule or who you don't know, that he is from the opposite shoreline.
We had to teach Bogaigh his place as pack-mule.
Don't get me wrong, he was a decent guy, one of the three seaplane tenders in service with the Water Polices, a young-looking black-haired man with ember eyes and the characteristic pointy ears of a Selkie-Kanmusu. And he had gladly spent the last ten minutes outside of my fitting room chatting and flirting with my sister, who had wrapped him around her pinky finger without any issue.
“Don't behave so weirdly, Rhi!” Abhcan even rammed her fists into her sides, scowling. “I am sure, that you look lovely and don't have to worry!” I whimpered. “Don't make me tow you out!”
I hesitated for a moment.
“Promise me you won't laugh!”, I demanded, redness coming to my face.
Abhcan nodded. “I'm your sister.”
That's what I was worried about.
I let go of the curtain and stepped out.
Bogaigh averted his gaze almost immediately. Abhcan coughed into her fist.
I wore a bikini alright, one with such a high leg, that I might as well strap the bottoms over my shoulders, a cover that was not much larger then a dental floss and two little triangles covering and holding what needed to be covered and held.
“Okay, I think that one is a clear miss.”, Abhcan said.
“For the record, beach or not, one could arrest you for public indecency.”, the policeman told us, still averting his gaze. “It won't hold in court, but... yeah.”
I whimpered.
“Well, with that said, my dear big sister...”, Abhcan said and held out another small plastic bag with a bikini, “...this one might be a bit more suited to your liking.”
“Can't I have a nice one with frills and a covering bottom?”, I asked.
“You're not a corvette.”, Abhcan told me in no uncertain terms.
“But... but... what about Cailín?”, I asked, “She's a cruiser.”
“She also looks like a corvette.”, Abhcan said and wiggled the hand holding the new one. “Come on, Rhi, try this one and then you can come out and we look for another one.”
I nodded and took the little bag, retreating into the fitting room.
I could hear Abhcan's fucking smile.
“You can look ahead again, Bogaigh.”, I heard her saying and the two went back to chatting.
In the fitting room, I almost tore off the bikini and stuffed it back into the little bag with enough force to almost rip the bag apart. I sighed.
Well, some girls might like those... and their boyfriends.
The new one could be summed up in one word: Lace.
A white lace-trimmed bikini, decent bottoms with just a smidgen on highleg, decent cover and holding and halterneck and... compared to the predecessor, it was like night and day, I felt far more comfortable, did a few small jumps to test, if it fit, bent down to touch my toes, stretched in all directions.
It held wonderfully.
Doing a twirl, looking at me in the mirror, I stopped – I looked hot. But then again, I did not want to known as the hot chick that did the paperwork.
But... ugh...
My more famous name-sister would disapprove, I knew that, if only on principle, but despite her skimpy dress, she backed it up with dignity and self-confidence, which I felt I lacked and...
...and...
...and I subconsciously covered myself a bit.
“You alright in there?”, Abhcan ripped me out of my thoughts.
“Uh, yes, give me a moment!”, I called back and took a breath. I'd get myself a one-piece with frills and that was it. “Ready or not...!”
I stepped out.
Bogaigh didn't avert his gaze, but he did blush lightly, Abhcan grinned.
“You look pretty!”, she complemented.
“You think so?” I turned to the policeman. “What do you think?”
Bogaigh smiled, cleared his throat and extended his hand. “May I?”
I looked to Abhcan, who smiled, but was just as confused as I was.
I placed mine in his and he pulled me closer and placed a hand on my hip and... I did not know, how it came about, but I danced with him not a moment later. I was, for a moment, confused, but then decided to lean into it.
He was a good dancer.
Needless to say, I bought the bikini.

But Persephone seemed to be alright with that, despite, or maybe because, being a battleship and not one of the new punts with all the missiles, but a good, old All Big Gun Battleship.
Chaldea, a DDG, seemed nice, too.
I bowed my head to them in respect.
“SDFS Rhiannon.”, I introduced myself, “Rhiannon-II-class Frigate, Flagship of the SDF-Navy and the youngest in a long line of ships carrying my name.” I shrugged. “I prefer to go by Rhi, though, when possible.”

I giggled – Miúil was not my big sister in the same sense as Otome was Uta's. Miúil was a supply ship, I was a cruiser, we were from the same shipyard, but that was about it.
She still had the bestest ice cream!
I grinned up: “Thank you, Miss Arashi! Come, Uta, let's meet up with the others!”
Miúil put a hand on my shoulder.
“Not everyone is a nuclear powered cruiser, Cailín.”, she reminded me gently, “So please don't run this much. I am sure, that Lusachinn and the others will appreciate it, too.”
I nodded with a wide grin. “Yes, Big Sis!”
And off I was, at a slower, but steady towards the assembly area.

SDFS Miúil.
I sighed and looked at Arashi with a smile.
“Don't worry. Cailín and her friends from the Sea Explorers are good kids... heavily armed warship spirits, but good kids.”, I told her and then added: “Besides, they only want to explore the forest a bit.”
I let a beat pass.
“SDFS Miúil, support vessel of the SDF-Navy.”, I introduced myself as I turned to follow the two, “Wanna help me chaperone a bit, Miss Arashi? Meanwhile the young lady can explore the local shipboy population a bit.”
I threw Otome a wink.

Marcharnnau.
I smiled and bowed my head in respect.
Well, if we were greeted this respectfully, it was only proper to respond in kind.
“The pleasure is ours, Miss An.”, I spoke, “I am Marcharnnau, this young lady is Ganembearn. We are of Gainimh-Islands, Independent Kanmusu serving with no military.”
Better not mention, that we were essentially pirate tourist attractions at this point.
“Good day, Ma'am.”, Ganembearn spoke, then looked at me, “Miss Marcharnnau, would you mind me detaching and starting with the construction?”
“Of course.”, I said and nodded and, with a small cheer, the Ganembearn indeed detached, running to the shore. “Don't worry, she wants to build a sand harbour fortress.”, I explained and then offered An to join me. She looked... ill-fitted, the shirt too large for her, for starters. “Aaaaan Armed Forces... I must say, that in the many, many years I have been in service, I have yet to meet them, but that is nothing that can't be changed today, now can it? Do you want to join us?”
I had no idea about her being tasked with being a sort-of emissary to the Kanmusu of the Free Lands.

My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.

Persephone's eyebrows raised when Rhi introduced herself as a flagship of her nation's navy.

"I see," Persephone nodded.

Persephone recalled memories of the days when she was in Rhi's position. the nearby shore and present weather providing an enhanced experience. It was during the Third Kosmos War when she was dispatched to Luzviminda on her famous pursuit of the Joyonghean battleship Tongmyeong and battlecruiser Geumsan. Vengeance for the sinking of her comrade Cassander Soter, an aircraft carrier, and a majority of her fleet, and she was the leader. Off the east coast of Mindanao, many bore witness to Persephone's wrath upon Tongmyeong which ended in a tremendous explosion, fitting for her name. The mental trip lasted for a short while as she wished not to ignore the newcomer. Consuming another sip of her drink, Persephone turned back to Rhi as Chaldea complemented the Selkie shipgirl.

"Very nice to meet another flagship, and a young one, at that. Hopefully, your duties as such are not too cumbersome," she then laughed.

"So, being the youngest of your long ship line, I assume that you're a modern ship," Chaldea remarked.

A bell ringtone blurted from Chaldea's smartphone. Chaldea looked at her text, and saw that a new message arrived from Mazaca. Replying back, she turned off her phone, and informed Persephone of the helicopter cruiser's arrival. Eying Rhi, Chaldea looked to her directly.

"That was about our other comrade, Mazaca," she explained, "It's kind of annoying how he has to come late at times."

After taking the last sip of her drink, Chaldea pulled out a piece of cinnamon-flavored bubble gum out of her bag.

She sweat (can shipgirls sweat?) for a moment, worried the two would see past her prim-and-proper facade. The way that prick Aunaseb had put it, any slip up she made would put Aaaaaa in the nuclear crosshairs of every SEA nation out there. She knew he was trying to scare her, but he knew much more about Aaaaaa's geopolitical situation... could he be right? It was best to not take any chances. The way the two shorties responded, it seemed as though she pulled off the charade, but she couldn't be too sure. The best possibility was that they knew she was putting on an act, but didn't care. Then she wouldn't have to fake being a dainty princess again.

The much more well-endowed of the two spoke up, asking her to tag along.

"Oh, if you'll allow me!" Her smile not quite reaching the rest of her face. "But, um, did you say she was building a... sand castle?" Wasn't quite the exact term the shortstack used, but An couldn't think of anything else a "sand harbour fortress" implied. Something didn't add up. She was told to be on her best, most respectful behaviour, lest Aaaaaa be removed from the planet... and now she was supposed to be building sand castles? Seemed immature. She had a sinking feeling in her gut that she shouldn't have asked that.

"Well yeah okay, let's go!" Cailín was quite energetic, it must be her inner workings and it seemed Miúil confirmed that thought by reminding, some ships were built different like, Uta. Yeah the nuclear types were speedy and energetic but that's okay, because that just meant she was enthusiastic and enthusiasm was good, Uta would do her best to keep up anyway . "Yeah let's go! It'll be fun!"

Arashi waved them off "Oh I'm quite certain she'll be fine. The enthusiasm is adorable to watch. So I'd be glad to help out in any way I can. And Otome, you should go off and have some fun to explore on your own."

"Oh well --" Otome giggled bashefully, "I mean I didn't really plan on it but sure why not" That was a lie, naturally Otome thought long and hard about what ship boys would be around and she was eager to see them. The steam emitting from her should be a tell but Arashi giggled "Go on then and have fun and enjoy yourself."

The two thanked Srublao and made their way to the changing cabins. It took them TEN minutes to change to their casuals: Atlas wore a sleeveless shirt, below knee-length shorts, and slippers; Koikaze wore a sleeveless dress, shirts, black pantyhose and slippers. Atlas' slippers were blue while Koikaze's were teal. Both ships wore waist bags which also comes with a holster that allows for the two carry their water bottles and tablets.

They got their bags and went to find this ship named Caja. On each of the couple's hands were a smartphone, also color coded to match the two's faved colors. The two searched for this Caja fellow so that they can lead them to a room the carrier and heavy Cruiser would share living in.

It's like a vacation for the two.

Cartreffa Island
Command Operations Naval Group 5
Task Force G
5th Fleet
MRNS Commander Koch, MRNS Rosalina, MRNS Eris, MRNS Enyo

The CONG 5 was a bureaucratic way to describe what was essentially an group of kansen or shipgirls, taking leave for their vacations before they were back in operations for a deployment or continuing their official sea trials; it also worked as an reaction force for any eventuality around the islands and as an amphibous group for such scenarios, but; it was also the lead group of two of the ships in the group that was in the region.
Imperator Class Command Ship, MRNS Eris and Ragnarok Class Arsenal Ship, MRNS Enyo were some of the newest ships in the Mervayan Royal Navy, meant to be the the new command leading ships and heavy assault ships of the navy for various operations; the command group for any amphibious operation and subsequent campaign, the command ship of an fleet or any other type of naval group, or, even a tracking ship with a heavily fortified escort that could act as an interceptor of ballistic missiles, enemy aircraft and ships or also support bombarment operations against enemy forces and positions and support for allied troops. Alongside these new vessels, they were joined in by active navy ships that were under temporary command of CONG 5 but were in fact, part of Task Force G; Andersen Class Aircraft Carrier, MRNS Commander Koch and Solstizio Class Destroyer, MRNS Rosalina, they had seen combat during the peacekeeping and enforcement operations in Yuktobania and Apotos and beyond, freedom of navigation missions throught the seas and so on.

Eris like her namesake proved was a force of chaos and discord, the violet haired woman was an mischievous person yet kind and caring to her allies, her beauty unchallenged as so did of her partner in crime and something of an sister as much as a close confidant and voice of reason that was Enyo. The arsenal ship was prepared for war and wasn't afraid of getting her hands dirty in combat, she has quickly gained a reputation in Corven Base as the voice of reason to whatever antics did her step sister and friend tried to pull out at the base if she didn't joined in; they were as well disciplined as everyone else of course.

Koch was as pristine as they came, she gave an air of authority and respect that made everyone to look up to her, serenity in her stern and calculating visage could be felt, poised with grace and elegance; her partner was completely different. Rosalina was by all means and like everyone in the group, a fighter in and out of the battlefield, you would always find her training in base gym complex; she quickly became the sparring partner for the new girls and was someone that knew how to fight in various combat styles and various of them were from Yeong as she valued her heritage as a Mervayan-Yeongian Design, and a mechanic that knew her stuff well as she also aided in the maintainance of her rigging and hull; she was also an energetic personality even after going through the thick of fights as her scars around her body show that in her life she has been in various battles and conflicts.

Their rigging and the ship itself weren't manifested, the former as it appeared at the will of the kansen while the ship did so as well, but also due to the fact that save by the destroyer and the arsenal ship, they weren't so sure the rest would fit at the harbour. Mervayan Kansen worked in strange ways. Thankfully they came prepared for the beach as the girls decided that before arriving to the island would they change in one of the ships, with Eris volunteering for the offer if they desired, an offer that was taken if only for simplicity's sake.

They were later on in the beach watching the beginning of festivities in the temple as a sign of respect to their allies, many of them may also be with them when war comes to the Confederation and are deployed; the hope that most of the presents that are military ships in service making it back is a thought they do not want to deal for today in the Mervayan Ships. Still, the moment festivities begun the group decided split off and enjoy their day; Eris excitedly grabbing Enyo to the beach and see if they will find some familiar faces along the way, much to the arsenal ship's fond exasperation and praying that the mischievous command ship won't cause any trouble. Rosalina and Koch just glanced at the other and with a fond grin from the destroyer and a thin yet warm smile from the carrier did the two separated as well, the carrier going to the settlement to see if she could find a drink while the destroyer went to check a bit of the forest, if only to find an spot where she could rest in peace and enjoy a time for herself before joining the rest later on.

The two ladies smiled at the stranger, who introduced herself as SDFS Searc, a light cruiser of The Freelands. Rosemary smiles back as her with the comment of utility of their design as modern warships.

“Of course, my dear” Fascination replied. “A modern warship must be flexible in defense and offense. Though, I often think about the olden times, when even the warships were grand. Though, that is just me. Please to meet you Ms. Searc. Folks call me Fascination. I am delighted to make your acquaintance.

“And a pleasure to meet you too. My name is Rosemary. A guided-missile cruiser of the “Village” Class. I guess we are sort of alike”.

“So, Searc darling. I reckon you live around here?” Fascination asks, as she does some stretches.

SDFS ARC-26 Rona.
Let's get the basics out of the way: Green Hair, yellow eyes, crocodile tail, Tuirlingeoir-class LBT SDFS ARC-26 Rona, at your service. Wearing a complicated swimsuit with a blouse over it, I stood in the shade of a palm tree, watching Miúil and the kids she chaperoned.
She was part of Fleet Logistics Squadron Dumhach, as were I and my sister ARC-27 Liliane. Captain Iseatar had dismissed us all to this festivity to bond a little bit. Well... we had an idea about how to bond alright, the three of us and Maighdean.
Liliane and I had transported all sorts of things in the past, including the tanks of Sensha-Do Teams, but nothing had been more fun then transporting the utensils we had needed for this. We hadn't asked Hammacker for help, her big truck had been needed elsewhere, so I had brought my own old utility vehicle, a Gabha Motorworks G 7 Scálamarc Light Utility Vehicle for this.
Light, in this case, meant seven tons heavy and fully amphibious.
We had used it during the night to set up a few things in the jungle – nothing harmful, we Tuirlingeoir-class LBTs were minelayers by secondary role, but we did not want to harm the kiddos, but it would be fun nonetheless.
Maighdean and Rásaí being in on it as well certainly helped in that.
The exploration by the Sea Explorers would lead them into the jungle, towards the peak of Mountain Hill, but at some point, the group would get lost...
...which was, when we came in.
The Vixen would be proud of us.

Seleucid Pergamon wrote:Persephone's eyebrows raised when Rhi introduced herself as a flagship of her nation's navy.

SDFS Rhiannon (the younger one).
I chuckled.
“I know the kind, yes.”, I said and smiled as Chaldea pulled out a piece of bubble gum, then turned back to Persephone. “Especially the older ones in some navies have almost a tradition of 'arriving exactly when they mean to', to quote an old adage.”
I shook my head with a fond smile.
“Not that young hull like my own aren't prone to 'taking a detour' every now and again as well. Especially us Shipgirls sometimes encounter situations, in which that can't be avoided, like storms.”, I recounted, then leaned forward as if to tell a big secret: “One of my sisters nearly missed her own commissioning ceremony due to a detour.”
It was hopefully clear, that I was quite young myself, younger then Chaldea even, if I recognized her well enough.

Aaaaaa wrote:She sweat (can shipgirls sweat?) for a moment, worried the two would see past her prim-and-proper facade.

Marcharnnau.
“Basically.”, I said with a smile and while some might see that question as a stupid one, I was not one of those. After all, that Ganembearn loved her sand complexes of various descriptions was not known to everyone in the whole wide world (even if she had a social media account of it by now). “But as it will have a harbour, it will be a sand harbour fort, not a sand castle.”
I smiled as we followed the shortstack (who was I to talk?).
“It is her technicality.” I smiled at An, looked her up and down. “Before we join her, Miss An, can that shirt get dirty or do you want to change?”
I still couldn't make out, what the characters meant, but maybe they had a deeper meaning one should not mess with? Especially not with dirt.
And she seemed extremely nervous, as if she was sailing through a mine field. Maybe changing would do something about that? After all, if even Grandma Rhi (again, who was I to talk?) got a bit more relaxed in swimwear, who was to say the same trick wouldn't work with An?

AHSCA wrote:"Well yeah okay, let's go!" Cailín was quite energetic, it must be her inner workings and it seemed Miúil confirmed that thought by reminding, some ships were built different like, Uta. SDFS Cailín.
“That it will be!”
It was only a short trek to where the Sea Explorers had assembled, a good dozen corvettes, a Teressian Monitor, two from the Eachtrán's Younger Militia, a fish cutter and, of course, our chaperones: Aside from Miúil, Mister Maor (the Corvette from 1961, not the helicopter carrier), Miss Rásaí and my actual oldest sister, Maighdean, took care of us.
My sister sat on a log, harp in hand, the others in front of her as she played a song and smiled, as I got up.
“It seems, that we are all present.”, she spoke, then bowed her head slightly, to Uta. “Good morning, little one. I am Maighdean.”
“Maighdean is my biggest sister!”, I said with some pride, which made her, and some others, giggle.

SDFS Miúil.
“I am afraid, that I must leave you to your own devices as well, Miss Arashi.”, I told the paddle wheeler. “We need all the chaperones we can get and, no offence, you have no idea about this island.” I shrugged and I added: “Maybe we can grab a drink later, but for now, see ya!”
I hurried behind Cailín, caught up to them just as they met Maighdean...
...leaving Arashi alone.
It was a lot going on here today and a lot of people around – and if not, she might not be a carrier, but the bar was open anyway.

The local Shipboy Population could be separated into three parts: The Boys, a tier mostly occupied by the male personifications of the SDF's Corvettes, the Wannabe-Men, a tier somewhere in the middle between the Boys and the third tier, the Men.
And there were Men.
The rough and tumble fishing ships of Hurscht Fisheries, the sharp seaplane tender of the Water Polices, the older corvettes of the SDF-Navy, first and foremost the bare-chested (not that he stood out thanks to that around here) of SDFS Nocht and the larger, more capital warships. The confident, almost arrogant, dark-skinned form of Ea, a drone carrier of the Royal Kyrenaian Coast Guard, was with his fellow carriers, but the bar was not closed. Maor, the Helicopter Carrier, was there as well, sharing a drink with his sister Sealgaire and the older Teressian Carrier Naya.
While male Kanmusu, a.k.a. shipboys, were rare around here, the majority being female, there were some. And, much like their female counterparts, the whole plentora of swimwear options was on display, from speedos to trunks, from brief to jammers, all was present.
The minimalist speedo Nocht wore left little to the imagination, then again, the unnaturally tall man with the width of a wardrobe and the muscles that gave mountain ranges a run for their money did not seem to mind. In fact, he played with some of the younger-looking shipgirls, literally holding one on each arm while they clung to his biceps a good metre off the ground.
Then, there was Bogaigh, the aforementioned seaplane tender and on the other end of the spectrum. He wore trunks, an open shirt above it, sitting in one of the beach chairs and chatting with a Kyrenaian Large Cruiser.
So, in short, Otome had a lot to pick from.

Caja.
Caja was a bit of a nickname. Officially, I was Cartreffa Island. As in the Installation Type of this Naval Yard, by the Treaty of Mount Vellenge of 1948 actually neutral – and by the same treaty, I could call upon the assembled naval might of Kyrenaia, the Free Lands, Teressien and Lutetii if I was in danger.
Pretty neat for a former pirate base, eh?
That being said, I was at the bar, coordinating the cooking and drink-pouring that the bar crew engaged in, there was the Carrier Meetup, there were a few people getting something to drink, Halib was making ice cream, all was fine.
I was talking about something with Hammacker, when she noticed the two, made me aware of them, so, with the Teressian Large Cruiser backing me up, I turned and smiled.
“Morning, you two.”, I said and... if I were to be honest, their sense of clothing needed a lot of work. The boy looked like his Mommy dressed him and the girl looked like she was lifting her skirt for a living. Then again, that might be the old pirate base in me talking. Anyway... “Can I help you two with something?”
Usually, when people approached me directly, they had something on their minds.

SDFAS Cairredas.
Eris and Enyo were familiar faces, at least to me and my two sisters.
Hope-class Hospital Vessels, the three of us were – Dochassa, the little lass, who was playing with Nocht and some other of the younger-looking shipgirls, was absent, but I was here and Ferthainn was here.
Both of us swapped the (skimpy, the SDF-Navy is the SDF-Navy, after all) nurse uniforms for swimsuits.
I was blonde, had brown eyes and widely extending pointy ears, which were so characteristic for Kanmusu of the SDF-Navy. My hair was short and practical, framing a cheeky, cheerful face, though, admittedly, despite my cheerfulness, I could get a bit harsh at times, especially with patients looking a bit too low for my liking.
Not that there was nothing to look, or to not like, but if a nurse tells you something important and you are more occupied with watching down her nurse blouse... yeah, exasperation was a nice term, even if a bit too little.
Still, I did nothing to hide me being a nurse, with me wearing a white bikini, a big red diamond on the left breast and a small backpack with a red diamond on my back.
Ferthainn was less of a nurse and more of a doctor, as evidenced by her wearing her labcoat even on the beach. The red-eyed brunette was not only pointy-eared, but also had horse ears standing high and proud on her head. Her black bikini was not marked like mine was, but the fact of the matter was, upon her commissioning next year, she'd join the Fleet Logistics Squadron in Dumhach.
She waved at the two Mervayans, vessels built in Silverport at SDY, like we were.
I smiled at her and her enthusiasm, but also at our friends.
“Eris! Enyo!”, I called out, then switched to Selkie: “Come over! The water is warm, the sun is shining and the sights are worth a look as well!
Ferthainn looked at me with a confused grin, before it dawned upon her, that I did not mean the landscape...

RKN Qallu.
Koch.
Andersen-class Aircraft Carrier, a modern one, a bit younger then the Hukms, the workhorses of the RKN's carrier forces. And thus, she was eligible for the Carrier Meetup, to which I was invited as well.
She was also a figure inspiring loyalty and respect, much like Mirfae, Eanqa and her sisters. However, unlike the two, who had a religious serenity to them, Koch had more of a stern serenity to her.
For a corvette built to carry helicopters, for ASW and assaults and whatever other reason one could have a corvette having carry helicopters, she was a flagship – and so were Mirfa and Eanqa and the other carriers of the RKN and the dozen Sharafs. Much like the difference between Mirfa, Eanqa and Koch, they all had different personalities, too.
Escort Group 4, to which I belonged and which was homported in Meninx, was usually not graced by the large and important units of the RKN.
Still, as I approached her and her escort, the destroyer Rosalina, I smiled.
Silver hair, silver eyes and dark skin gave me a distinctive enough appearance as it was, but the two large, high and black horns, which reached for the sky certainly helped with etching me into the memory of anyone seeing me. Usually, at least.
As a fighting warship, and correspondingly muscular, I could still wear a black bikini, a light jacket opened over it, showing off a well-toned body.
I cleared my throat an appropriate distance away.
“Miss Koch, Miss Rosalina?”, I asked politely, “I am RKN Qallu, Navy of Her Majesty the Sultana of Kyrenaia. I was sent to invite you, Miss Koch, and a plus one...” I smiled at Rosalina for a moment (it was a very toothy smile, with quite interesting-looking teeth), then turned back to Koch. “...to a small meetup of Carriers at the bar, organized by three of my own Navy's Drone Carriers. While you are, of course, free to decline the invitation, we would greatly appreciate your presence.”
I bowed my head lightly.
“Of course, all drinks are on them.”, I added.

Cartoonia wrote:The two ladies smiled at the stranger, who introduced herself as SDFS Searc, a light cruiser of The Freelands.

SDFS Searc.
“These days, yes.”, I said and shrugged, “It is a nice retirement home for lassies like me, lassies from the 30s.” I smiled at Rosemary. “Sorry, Rosy, but my armament mostly consisted of 135 millimetre guns, not of missiles. I do guess, that we both are into speed, though – 40 knots during trials!”
I grinned with some pride.
I had been among the fastest ships of my time and certainly the fastest ship of the SDF-Navy. Granted, that saved neither myself nor any of my sisters from the scrapper's torch, but still... our bells existed. I wondered how my sisters were doing.
And what, because I knew, that they had received their invitations, but I was the only one of the Cailleach-class Light Cruisers present.
I play PT, MT and a bit FT. I am into character-RPs.
My people are called the Selkie, the nation is usually called the Free Lands in MT-settings. Thanks.
