Far From Home

Image

Humanity has come a long since their humble yet turbulent beginnings on Earth. Despite the chaos and destruction caused by world war three in 2045, with no clear winner. Humanity rose from the ashes and came together under a new banner. The United Earth Coalition started a new age of peace and advancement. With the solar system being colonized by the year 2085. It was until 2100 that the two scientists created the Argos drive, which enabled the UEC to expand past the solar system and to other worlds. Starting the age of exploration and colonization.

Though as humanity colorized the stars, a question remained. Is there other intelligent life in the cosmos? After a century of combing the stars and while alien life was discovered that ranging from small bacteria to large creatures that dwarf an elephant. No sign of intelligent life was found, nothing, not even a tiny hint that humanity was not alone in the galaxy. But, their search was hindered by civil war in 2195, when several systems centered around the Vors 3 system in the frontier wanted independence from the UEC. Due to increasing inner colonies policies. Starting a three-long civil war that ended in UEC victory. Which Vors 3 and its surrounding systems were placed under occupation as a new government for the systems was being arranged.

Then it happened about two months later when a frontier world called Agria by surveyors found an alien ruin on the jungle world. What looked like a complex of some kind. A team of researchers and a security detail were gathered and sent to Agria to study the ruin. So intelligent did at least at one point exist, but this ruin would not just answer that age-old question but do something unexpected. While the researchers were studying the ruin, it seemly came to life and transported parts of the research team along with parts of the security detail to an unknown world. There the humans would find themselves scattered on this world and soon find that they are not the only ones that were transported and are seemingly trapped on this alien world. Others would find themselves in the same situation, and together they must find a way off this world. It will not be easy, but together they have a chance to survive and begin the trek back home. And perhaps discover the secrets of this world's former inhabitants and find out more about this ancient race. But that is ultimately up to the actions of those stranded in this alien world.

Overview:

So this is a reboot of an old rp idea of mine and thought it was time to launch it again. The year is 2198, and you can either play as a member of the human research team, human security team, or as an alien that was teleported too. Your goal is to find other stranded people and work together to find a way off the planet and eventually back home. Surviving the local wildlife, lingering automated defenses, and mutants that are active around the planet. As of now, your character will start in one of two starting zones, and I will decide where your character ends up based on your app. If you are teleported to the unknown planet, then that means your char was around or in contact with a similar alien ruin that teleported the humans.

While escaping the planet is the goal, it is not the end of the journey. For you go beyond the planet on your journey to return to your home. Unlike in the previous version where some magic was allowed. Magic will not be allowed in this version. Though I will be allowing psionic chars which, there will be a limit of two or three. Just do not make them overpowered. Also, when making an alien race, please be original with your race and not just copy and paste. Also, this Far From Home is no longer an Andromedaverse rp and is back to being its own thing.

While you are free to make up your char how you wish. It is suggested you make a char that has some reason to dislike your fellow survivors. A human with xenophobia or an alien that loathes other aliens or is suspicious of others. As I said, you do not have to do this if you do not want to. Just saying that because your char has to work with others to survive does not mean your char has to like them or at least at first.

As for psionics, while playable, they have restrictions, the main one is that if one has healing based psionics, they can heal but only at close range, and psionics apps will be judged case by case. Also, we are at max psionics chars, so I will not accept any more psionics char apps.

Unknown Planet

The unknown planet which characters will find themselves is a temperate planet with multiple biomes that range from large jungles to remote polar regions. The planet is littered with abandoned buildings and even cities. Though some of these buildings are still guarded by automated defenses and either lay dormant or are active. The cities are centered in the deserts of the planet, which lie in the middle of the planet in comparison to the starting zones.

The two starting zones are a jungle area and an underground lab area. Both of their enemy types are wildlife in the jungle and mutants for the underground lab.

Tech

While the aliens tech can vary from primate spears to plasma rifles and nothing op. The human's tech is magnetic weapons. Powered armor which goes from light to heavy armor. Cybernetics, Vehicles like cars are hovercrafts and have mechs. Has Jump Drives that allow for interstellar travel. Has limited terraforming capacities and A.Is.

Name: Julia Montero
Species/Race: Human
Gender: Female
Age: 23
Appearance:
Height: 6'3
Weight: 200 Pounds
Image
Psionic: Yes, Endurance Field - A woman of considerable physical prowess as is, Julia's psionic field enhances her physical abilities to superhuman levels, provides some shielding heals her body and heals those she touches if she chooses. However it is very much a tool for melee combat specifically.

Rank:Lieutenant
Personality: An extremely effective psionic soldier and veteran of the UEC civil war, Julia has no qualms about hurting and killing people if it's 'what needs to be done'. She has a visceral hatred of those in the outer colonies who 'dared' to attempt split humanity again. Nonetheless she is highly sympathetic to those who have complaints about democracy and inequality within the UEC. Despite in someways being mature beyond her years as a consequence of the violence she experienced (and inflicted), Julia can still act with youthful immaturity at times and loves 'childish' roughhousing. Despite her capacity for brutishness, she's an intelligent woman, pursuing a graduate degree at 16 and finishing in 3 years before being commissioned as a psionic officer.

Occupation: Lieutenant of the security team providing security for the Agria research mission

Skills:
[*] Psionic Officer Training
[*] Elite Melee Combatant
[*] Genetically enhanced physique

Equipment: Standard Military equipment/unique armor permitted to psionic officers.

Background: Julia was born to educated parents who both worked their way up from the working class into the political classes through labour politics. The party they were a part of being staunchly in favor of a united humanity gave them a lot more access to the inner core of established powers in the UEC than their anti-establishment politics would otherwise afford them. As a consequence, they were able to sign up for a genetic modification program for their daughter, to ensure her both natural near peak human abilities and psionic powers.

This also meant she went to special schooling for the modified and psionic. Surrounded by the children of families coming from generational wealth sometimes stemming back to the days before WW3 on earth, Julia more than held her own. The modifications were highly compatible with her baseline genetics, which meant as a child she was usually significantly bigger, stronger and smarter than her fellow students. A difference they'd quite often literally felt in mandatory martial arts training, as Julia was loathe to hold back on her wealthy peers. She'd graduate with top marks at 16, the only blemishes on her academic career being the not infrequent brawls she'd get into with other students. She'd complete a four year university double major in 3 years, then proceed to get a commission in the UEC Navy as a Psionic Officer. During the civil war, she'd participate in boarding actions against separatist ships and defend against theirs. The vicious close combat being an excellent fit for her by then 200 pound heavy and 6'3'' tall physique. Toward the end of the war she'd earn minor notoriety among both comrades and foes.

Soon after it's conclusion, she'd end up with the small security team going with the Agria mission.

Looks mostly okay, but there's one issue

I find it hard to believe that a 23 year old, psychic powers notwithstanding, would achieve such a rank at such an age. I suggest lowering it to either lieutenant or making her older, say 28. Once that is sorted out you will be accepted.

Name: Elathrim
Classification: Mammal, specifically humanoid
Homeworld: Elathra, though there are colonies on Elathra's largest moon as well as its neighbor ice planet, Eodin. A mining colony was recently established in the Soras system 10 ly from Elathra on a metal-rich but barren planet.
Government: Fractured; while their was once a union of nations controlling Elathra and her colonies, infighting has caused that delicate alliance to fall. Colonial uprisings and wars have decimated Elathrim society, and no one nation is strong enough to dominate all the rest.
Level of Technology: Elathrim have terraforming technologies to a limited extent; they are able to establish isolated colonies about the size of a large city, but cannot develop large portions of land. Furthermore, their FTL tech is only newly developed and cannot take them much farther than 30 ly from their homeworld. Interestingly, Elathrim never developed an equivalent of guns. They fight with electrically charged spears, arrows, swords, and the like on foot or on self-driving bikes attuned to the rider. Aerial combat consists of unleashing waves of destructive energy which, when directed toward the ground within a certain range, can level entire towns.

Physiology and Abilities: In appearance, Elathrim are very similar to humans. They have blue hair that ranges in shade from ice blue to ultramarine and skin tones that can be human shades or bluish-gray. They are somewhat shorter than humans, around 5'5" on average with no difference in height between males and females. While Elathrim have a slightly longer lifespan than humans at 120 years, they also heal more slowly. They tend to reproduce less than humans, with each couple having 1 or 2 children on average due to a gestation period of nearly 3 human years. Elathrim gestation is longer in part because they require stellar energy to form. This energy does not give Elathrim psionic powers, as that is a rare genetic trait, but rather serves as a building block for cells. Interestingly, this gestation occurs outside the body in a web of pure energy formed by the female and fertilized by the male. It is heavily guarded and monitored during the gestation period; in some cultures, guarding the developing younglings is the highest honor.

Elathrim are as varied in abilities, culture, and values as humans, but they have several features setting them apart from homo sapien sapien. For one, they are nocturnal; days are seen as a time to recuperate, and as such many Elathrim sleep outside (though they are guarded from the elements). Their vision is thus adapted to lower light. Elathra has three moons, only one of which is inhabited by permanent colonies (the other two are research outposts and spaceports), and the reflected light is ample to see by for humans; thus, their darkvision is not highly developed. Furthermore, Elathrim are almost exclusively left-handed. Right-handedness in Elathrim is a hundred times as scarce as left-handedness is in humanity, so it is either seen as taboo or a special gift depending on the culture. Elathrim also have an affinity for the stars; on their homeworld, they exceed at navigating by starlight, but they can only do so adequately on the world they were born on. (An Elathrim born on the moon Eodin would have a near-flawless sense of direction on their moon, but not on Elathra where the species originates.)

Brief History:(One Paragraph Min)

For eons, the Elathrim thought themselves alone in the universe. They believed the cosmos and its resources belonged only to them; they could have ruled the galaxies had they mastered space travel. But it was not meant to be. Their pride was stronger than their enterprising nature. Nationalism, xenophobia, and old feuds could not be washed away by the desire for progress. Indeed, there was little harmony within the International League of Exploration and Expansion (ILEE) while it existed. It was only a matter of time before the peace was gone.

In 12176 EE (Enterprising Era), not 15 years ago, the nations of Omraz and Kittin on Elathra declared war on one another. As Kittin was a vital trade route and foodstuffs supplier on its continent, bordering nations grew deprived of vital resources and their people desperate. Riots escalated into civil wars within the year as people began to starve. Not long after this, the formerly powerful empire of Ithrin, now but a shadow of its former self, launched an offensive on the continent of Cithin where Omraz and Kittin were located. This was a grave mistake; soon, nations were taking one of three sides in the war, and old rivalries bubbled up as the state of Elathra worsened.

As the wars on Elathra raged, the people of her colonies grew emboldened. They were little resistances at first: refusing to pay taxes, disrespecting Elathra officials. The mining colony in Soras was the first to fight back. Their resources severely depleted by the conflict that by then had gone on for nearly a decade, the remnants of the ILEE could not muster the forces to quell Soras, and the colony became a nation months after it declared independence.

At this point, Elathra was ravaged. The year was 12185 EE: the nations of Kittin and Ithrin had fallen, and new powers and scapegoats vied to take their place. Over a billion had died, and billions more were in desolation, hovering on the brink of extinction. Plague and famine swept across the once-verdant lands as shortages and blights spurred by the wars abounded. It did not help that the energy blasts that fell from the sky scarred the ground, rendering it scorched and useless. Excess energy from so many blasts had accumulated in the atmosphere, leading to charged storms so fierce as to destroy cities and reshape islands. The coastal nation of Ezbhara dissolved because its infrastructure could not handle the scale of these storms.
Lush forests were reduced to swaths of charred bark and drifting ash. Crops struggled to thrive in the overcharged and nutrient-deprived dirt.
People died en masse; corpses littered buildings and streets.

The moon colony of Eodin was growing restless. They were a self-sufficient people, at least to the extent that they could get by without the aid of the ILEE. With beyond their world all but halted, they had to figure out how to survive amongst themselves. Their growing autonomy was subtle, and it was ignored by the world because there was no one who could be spared to monitor them. The Rebellion of Iron Square, so it was called by the press, occurred in 12187 EE. This spurred direct conflict between Eodin and a shoddy collective of Elathra soldiers not strong enough to continue fighting on the front lines but not so weak as to be relieved from duty. They were malnourished and worn, yes, but they had experience that the people of Eodin did not. Which was why, when they started stealing foodstuffs and destroying supply lines, the end of the fight for independence became inevitable.

But this impending victory had not been long celebrated when the dying nation of Mardalan took its last stand. Crumpled by disease, starvation, and ecological destruction, the final survivors of Mardalan, merely 107 in number, made a grim decision. The time of the Elathrim had passed; it was their duty to make way for a new species, perhaps one with less pride, to arise. They launched all fifteen of their energy blasts at once, instantly destroying themselves and the final strongholds of Elathrim scattered across the lands. It was thus that in 12190 EE the destruction of Elathra was complete.

Her former colonies, however, remained. Soras and Eodin still held on, still had a significant enough population from which to rebuilt. The outposts on Elathra's two other moons were destroyed; the soldiers that had occupied them were now fighting for a cause that no longer existed. And with that the rebuilding began.

Name: Zena (given) Arzen (mother's name) Psi (occupation)
Species/Race: Elathrim
Gender: Female
Age: 25
Appearance: Zena
Psionic: Yes. Zena can telekinetically lift one object up to 10 pounds at a time so long as she is within a 10-foot radius of the object. She can then hurtle the object up to 10 feet away from its starting point. Her natural psionic aptitude was honed through the application of markings upon her shoulders, arms, and back that gave her this specific ability. Using psionics in combat causes her to tire faster,
Rank: Psi (Note: her rank within the Psi Corps is equivalent to that of a private).
Personality: Zena is a bit proud, as one tends to be when they are raised to believe they are special. However, she is a fearless fighter and quick on her feet. However, Zena is not simply a warrior; she is intelligent and has keen problem-solving skills. Her ability to apprise a situation makes her seem a natural leader, though she tends to think "nonpsis" are inferior. Despite her ego, she is not an outright jerk and will work alongside others without much complaint in a survival situation.
Occupation: Psi (psionics user/warrior)
Skills:
- Spearfighting
- Remaining rational under pressure (usually)
- Problem-solving

Equipment: - A military-grade standard issue electrospear, the Krasin X900. It is a black spear with a head made of a black substance. Through the middle of the tip and the staff is a strip of ice blue metal that shimmers in the absence of light. This metal is the conduit for the electrical charge and is endemic to Elathra.
- Vec armor: a lightweight bodysuit with a hexagonal pattern woven into the fabric. The body is basic armor with light blue webbing and offers standard protection. Black boots and protective gloves are included in the ensemble, as is a visor attached to an oxy generator built into the suit's back.
- A bag carrying a set of civilian clothers, a canteen of water, a winter coat, matches, a sheetroll, and some rations.
- A translator cochlear device implanted within each ear. The translator has to be programmed to include alien languages, which can be done through an external device stashed in Zena's bag.

Background: Zena was born on the moon Eodin to a people known as the Laraean. Believed to be descendants from the Ksilo people on Elathra, the Laraean are known for their naturally gradated hair and 100% incidence of psionic abilities. Psionics are revered by the Laraean, who believe them to be a gift from Elathra's star; in their religion, the star is called Mahmat. Mahmat is a god--not the creator of the universe, but the creator of the Laraean--who protects his children and offers them guidance. Laraean have a tradition of inscribing marking on their skin to hone their psionic ability; this ability is not chosen by the individual but reveals itself over time. The first marking is etched into the skin by a sakhin, one whose psionic gift is to draw out the gifts of others, when a Laraean comes of age at 16 and continues until the final marking is inscribed upon their 21st birthday.
(This is the biological age of maturity for Elathrim.)

The government of the Eodin colony respects the autonomy of the Laraean; however, the usefulness of their abilities cannot be overlooked. Once in a while, a Laraean will be born with greater psionic aptitude. Such a Laraean typically manifests signs of their power at an earlier age, prompting the marking ritual to begin at 15 rather than 16, which is why they are referred to as ethniri (lit. "fifteeners"). Ethniri are sought after by Eodin authorities, but it is ultimately the choice of the ethnir to join the Psi Corps.

Zena was the first ethnir to be born in 100 years. She was revered by her parents as well as her fellow villagers (Lanaeran villages are situated outside the city center near the edge of the colony), and was raised to believe she was superior. While this certainly led to her developing into an insufferable young woman, her conceited nature has since been quelled. When she turned 21, Zena opted to join the Psi Corps. Eodin's campaign for independence had begun, and she wanted to fight for freedom and defend her homeland.

Her induction into the Psi Corps was less than spectacular. Only two other inductees had been found in all of Eodin, and both outmatched her in speed, strength, and power. They bested her in spars, outran her in races, and outscored her on academic tests. Zena's spirit was broken down over many weeks until only vestiges of it remained. Broken and miserable, Zena feared she would never have the chance to protect her world. But she passed the final trials and was inducted into the Corps.

She was assigned to a special ops unit upon induction, which required her to break into enemy strongholds and disrupt communications. She wasn't the strongest warrior or psi, but she was clever and determined. She knew how to utilize her power as a tool. As the Eodin Uprising escalated into a war for independence, she became less a saboteur and more of a soldier. The missions grew more perilous, the skirmishes more desperate. Zena felt as though her identity was leaking into her profession, that everything she was unwound more with each thrust of her spear.

Then, Elathra fell. Zena watched brilliant blue flashes dance across the planets atmosphere, her hand numb as she clutched her spear. She knew instinctively that this was the unleashing of all the energy blasts that could be mustered, that almost nothing would survive them. The planet she had viewed from the sky with both wonder and contempt was no more.

Almost a full year after the fall of Elathra, Zena was sent on a scouting mission to search for survivors. She never made it past the landing site. They had landed adjacent to a ruin, and she ventured toward it to scout ahead. It was innocuous, this ruin. Just the first of many scars the Elathrim had left behind. But it wasn't. Zena stepped into the ruin, and found herself in a land completely unknown...

Eh, starting university at 16 and finishing a four year degree in 3 years is not impossibly rare and this is a genetically enhanced person. Getting to captain at like 27 is assuming getting commissioned at 23 when 17 is minimum for us army and like 20 for US Marines. So since captain is ~4 years of service

But I'm fine with a lower ranking if everything else stays. Edited.

So I forgot to list Skills for the app. So to those that have been accepted, just place Skills under Occupation and list what skills your char has.

You said magnetic twice about the pistol. Assuming railgun or other mass driver tech of the electromagnetic variety? Or is magnetic referring to something else?

Secondly, what kind of grenades are the two he carries?

Name: Rvian
Species/Race: Don-Gador
Gender: Male
Age: 26
Appearance: 5'7. Thin, purple eyes. Black hair he draws behind his head in a ponytail. Grayish-greenish skin.
Psionic: No
Rank: Sniper Lieutenant Class 3
Personality: Stubborn. Refuses to acknowledge any way to solve a problem other than his own.
Occupation: Hunter
Skills: Sharpshooting, jungle survival, math
Equipment: .50 caliber sniper rifle, machete, flex-weave armor capable of stopping swords, arrows, and bullets but cannot deflect a laser.

Background: Rvian was born in a village deep within the jungles of his homeworld, Don-Gavdo. The village was predominantly inhabited by Psions. As such, he was viewed as inferior because of his lack of Psionic power. Even his father and sister scorned him. Only his mother was kind enough to care for him.

Rvian worked as a tracker from a young age, as most of his species do. He was told to lead hunting parties, comprised of Psions, to the dens of wild beasts. Failure to find an animal den would result in intense mockery, and occasional bullying, from the Psions. Oftentimes, they'd refuse to give him anything to eat as punishment for his failure. The poor treatment caused Rvian to form a resentment toward Psions and a desire to one-up them.

As Rvian grew older, he began to sharpen his skill with a rifle. He spent much time in the jungle, practicing sharpshooting for hours on end. His skill at sniping earned him the respect of many. At only sixteen, he applied to join the regional army sniper corps. He aced any test thrown at him and rapidly rose the ranks. He participated in an expedition to fight in the Possessed War. Despite the war only lasting two months, Rvian racked up seventy-two kills, the most in his battalion. He had eradicated well over two dozen enemy commanders. He was awarded a Flexweave suit for his heroism. However, he had focused so much on becoming a sniper that he had neglected learning any form of hand-to-hand combat. He carries a machete with him in case of close-quarters combat but isn't great at using it. After serving his five-year term and combat in the Possessed War, he returned to the jungle and became a hunter.

However, rather than get the peaceful life he wished for, Rvian was thrown into a new world. While chasing a borig, a bizarre combination of a deer and boar, he sharply rounded a corner. Right into a teleporter. Though disoriented from the sudden change of planets, he quickly resolved to make it back to his homeworld. No matter what.

Name: Don-Gador
Classification: Mammal
Homeworld: Don-Gavdo
Government: aristocracy was divided into many regions ruled by lords.
Level of Technology: equivalent to technology in 2000 AD

Physiology and Abilities: Roughly equal muscle mass to a human. All of their limbs have four joints. Their hands have seven fingers each. They have two spinal cords that run side-by-side. This hinders their ability to turn their neck. Two bones jut out of their face. They are shaped like triangles and block their peripheral vision. However, this is slightly offset by their excellent central vision. They have 221 bones and only one, large lung, so they are incapable of holding their breath for long. Their digestive system is incapable of breaking down plants. Their ribcage extends down their entire chest to properly guard all their organs. That, however, reduces their flexibility.

Brief History: The Don-Gador emerged on their planet in the year 114. They soon realized their dependence on meat for sustenance and quickly established a society centered around hunting. A ruling elite was established, the council of Huntship. They divided the world into dozens of regions, each with its own lord and army. Their excellent vision made them well-suited for ranged combat, so they prioritized archery over swordsmanship.

For the most part, the Don-Gador lived in peace, rarely fighting amongst each other. The only wars in their history were of small scale, usually between two regions. Though technology advanced at a stunning rate, due to the planet being predominantly jungle, very few people ever got access to any technology. In the modern day, many villages still live using the most primitive of weaponry. Most of their history is passed down through legends, so what truly happened during many events is unknown.

Events of incredible importance, like the founding of the council of huntship or the founding of the regions, have been, mostly lost to time. The Don-Gador have begun to try to efficiently record their recent history. Raitors in each region record the invention of new technology, changing of lords, etc. Things like the invention of life-saving medicine were written down and celebrated.

One event gained infamy across Don-Gavdo, despite not being officially recorded. Only a few years before the current day, the Sgrak Region revolted against the Council of Huntship. The leaders of Sgrak wanted to destigmatize the taboo of cannibalism and hunting intelligent life. The Council of Huntship called for every region on Don-Gavdo to send their armies to crush Sgrak. The Council of Huntship began winning quickly because of their superior numbers.

The original plan was to reintegrate the people of the Sgrak Region into society after the war. But, out of nowhere, the Council of Huntship ordered its to exterminate everyone in Sgrak, even civilians. Why they changed their strategy so radically is unknown to the Don-Gador. The only hint as to why is a statement from a secretary of the Council of Huntship. Who claimed he gave them thirty-seven sealed reports marked urgent the night before they issued their order for genocide. The contents of those reports may have caused the Council to give out such a heinous order.

Anything that needs to be changed?

Right now, dealing with stuff offline, but curious as to logic of why one lung means harder time holding breath. Personally, I could see it going other way as well. No pressure either way, just curious right now.

Because while their lung has a larger capacity than a single human lung, its oxygen capacity is lower than both human lungs combined

Ahh, cool. Was curious as rest seemed bit more detailed to explain, so wanted to ask.

Will take a deeper look at rest after I get off from work.
