THE WESTERN ISLES: IMPERIAL WAR
-=-
“Remember my song, oh fair soldier,
And bring it with you.
When death calls, sing,
And remember that I wait at home.”
-=-

A malignant plague has beset the fair Western Isles, a sickness that sought not borders or race. It reeked of gunpowder and smoke, of crude oil and gasoline, of ash and cinder, of blood and metal. It sounded like an earth-shattering explosion, a nova that sought to undo all, yet it also whispered, of comforting words, of sobbing madness. It saw. And see, it did. Of crimson red, of dirtied greens, of soot-stained grays, of blackened waters. It hungered, of sacrifice, of sorrow, of fear, yet it also wanted the taste of liberty, of happiness, of success, and of heaven. Worship, it said, let all knee before it, and all did, wishes, hopes, and dreams on their lips. An unquenchable thirst at its behest, not just for blood, but for the ferocity of Death, riding a metallic steed, beseech by the sound of millions marching, their banners unfurled, crying for a better tomorrow for them, their family, and their nations. For a cause known true and good, but only to them. Yet causes for the great exist only in the minds of those who share it, and those who are at the path shall be trampled, lest they too, believe their cause be good and fight, thus the plague be named. A living being. War, apocalypse manifested by the hands of humanity, and it came for all of them.

The year is 1940. The Western Isles have descended into war. While conflict is not new to the islands, it was the first that was truly regional, a war that stretched from east to west, dragging along millions and millions of lives to the battlefield. A war that would see innumerable deaths, economies shattered, cultures changed, and governments collapse under the sheer weight of catastrophe.

In the burgeoning continent of Raedlon, Solaryia, with renewed determination at its helm, has launched a wholesale invasion of the continent, seeking to renew its ambitions of glory. In the fair continent of Gael, Fraternalists, Dormill and Stiura as their enforcer, have come into conflict with the Iszkari, bringing the land and seas into a tense standoff. Meanwhile, in the aspiring continent of Argus, the United Partitions have marched towards San Montagna, a belief of a better world for them thundering with every step.

All three remain unrelated (subject to change), yet no one foresaw that it would pull the strings of fate of all people together. Alliances and interests pulled together towards common goals, thus, the Imperial War begins. Split between the Free Powers and the Neo-Imperialists, the Western Isles now see itself in the path of annihilation.

The Imperial War

The Aftermath

-=-

In light of recent events, it has been decided that the Imperial War be rebooted in order to facilitate better collaboration and cooperation between members of the Western Isles. We are starting fresh on the entire thing, and every consideration and suggestion is welcomed. Do not hesitate to share your ideas and collaborate with other nations to form an engaging and creative story that would bring the Imperial War to life.

(subject to change) As of now, the beginning of the Imperial War remains unclear. While three events have already been proposed, it remains too isolated and far apart. The most pressing matter at the moment is to determine how the Imperial War would start, how the two great alliances would be formed, and what would be the causes of the Imperial War itself. If you have any ideas or proposals, go share them below!

RULES AND GUIDELINES

1. This thread is for members of The Western Isles only. No exceptions. It is not possible to include anyone or anything outside of the region. Violators will be prosecuted.

2. This is a cooperative project. All major decisions, especially those that involve the forces or people of another country, must be agreed upon by everyone involved. (In the words of the OG Miklania) If all you want to do is make a bunch of stories about how your great general goes around beating up everyone else, you are free to go write that somewhere else.

3. Take note of realism. If you are corrected by any member of the Western Isles, it is not a personal insult, we just want everyone to learn how to make this the highest quality story possible.

4. Be polite or else.

Timeline concept for Costavozka’s involvement in the Imperial War:

  • 1843: New Edevar is seized from Solaryí control during the Costavozkan War of Unity in an attempt to unify the country.
  • 1849!->1854: The Central Argean War occurs, in which Solaryia fails to retake New Edevar, despite a Costavozkan defeat.
  • 1887 -> 1889: The First Costavozkan Revolution occurs, and after which, the winner decided to hold a referendum over the issue of control of New Edevar. The referendum votes in favor of Costavozka holding the territory.
  • 1932 -> 1934: The Second Costavozkan Revolution occurs, leaving Costavozka weakened.
  • Early 1935: Concerned on the premise of a possible foreign attack on a weakened Costavozka, a border "wall" (Maginot Line-style) along the coast is authorized. Updates to existing coastal defenses are included in this plan.
  • Late 1935 -> Late 1940: Construction on the fortifications (named the Velderik Line) occur.
  • Early 1936 -> Early 1940: Costavozka attempts to remain neutral in the (yet to occur) conflict. A policy of Autarky is pursued, and most external trade is cut. This causes economic issues. Also during this time, Costavozka begins rearming and preparing for the next conflict.
  • Early 1940: The Velderik Line is completed, although it is understaffed, and will remain as such until the outbreak of war. Only major cities receive full staffing, with New Edevar being one of the most fortified and defended positions.
  • Mid? 1940: Solaryia launches attacks on Raedlon and on large portions of the Mesder, New Edevar is put under siege, taking Costavozka by surprise. Costavozka is able to break the siege using the defenses of the Velderik Line and submarines. The rest of the Costavozkan fleet attempts to remain away from the attacking forces. Following this, Costavozka declares war, requesting to form an international coalition against Solaryí and Neo-Imperialist forces. Portions of Costavozka are occupied, and from mid 1940 until 1943, New Edevar is put under siege.
  • Mid 1940: Solaryia seizes control of the Karnali, blockading most of Costavozka.
  • Mid 1941: Costavozka reaches full mobilization, leading regular submarine strikes against the Solaryí fleets (despite losses during most patrols), mining the shores, and preparing for a possible land war. Despite this, early Solaryí victories are numerous.
  • August 1941: Solaryí forces down two of Costavozka’s airships (1 recon/bomber, 1 carrier) and sink two cruisers as well as four destroyers during a major naval engagement. Costavozka begins moving toward a more submarine-based fleet after this battle. (Leaving Solaryí losses during the battle up to Solaryia).
  • Mid 1943: As it became clearer that Solaryí forces were stretched too thin, counterattack plans were drawn up. Submarine warfare increased in intensity around this time as well, becoming more successful than previous attempts in mid 1941.
  • Mid 1944: Costavozka regains partial control of the Karnali.
  • Early October 1944: Costavozka launches a liberation campaign of Raedlon via a large naval/air invasion- starting in [INSERT RAEDLON NATION HERE]. This soon stalls out due to Solaryí resistance and the winter, with little more than a few cities and a major port being secured.
  • Spring 1945: With reinforcements and the end of winter, the liberation campaign continues, eventually merging up with other invasion forces from the Free Powers, and pushing Solaryia back.
  • Summer 1945: Solaryia launches a naval counteroffensive in an attempt to disrupt supply lines.
  • Late 1946: The Imperial War ends. All soldiers fighting abroad return home by the end of 1947.

Will edit as needed.

TL;DR: Costavozka is Free Powers.

back in the old history Aruia was an area of no flight zone, shooting down any aircraft that tried to use its flight zone, based on a xenophobic nature that came from previous decades.

this is the short list of what happened in time line in the 1900s,
i am considering if the case should be that Aruia is forced to join a side or be a hot point for invasion, or keep it none aligned all this time.

Reposting my conceptual timeline from the old thread:

-In the 1920s/1930s, due to economic problems and civil unrest, a lot of colonies art art to break away from Solaryia, with the electoral monarchy starting to be seen as weak.

-In the mid 1930s, an ambitious young monarch takes power after the suprise death of the prior in a shipwreck, and claims to want to bring Solaryia back to the level of influence that it had decades prior.

-They spark several new programs, but particularly starts to strengthen the military, greatly building up the navy and modernizing the army. In order to help with this, they start to get closer relations with Keomora, a historically close nation culture wise and one of Argus’s preeminent powers, as well as Salismania.

-On the civil front, he starts to centralize power around the monarchy itself, taking power away from many of the influential noble families and various governmental factions that had been the leading forces in the weakening of the state prior to their ascension.

-They attempt to stay relatively neutral as they build up their armed forces, however by 1938/1939 Argus is already at war, and they view this as a perfect time to strike at Raedlon and various other colonies across the Mesder, helped by Keomoran pressure to join the war.

-Around 1940, hoping for a quick enemy surrender, they launch a surprise attack on military bases across Scaedia, Costavozka, and potentially Belantica, as well as naval and aerial assaults across Mesder. This is one of the first times that paratroopers and modern military equipment is used in Raedlon for a large scale conflict, and shocks the other powers.

-Large swathes of Scaedia, Belantica, and the Mesder fall to Solaryi occupation, and Solaryia soldiers are sent to assist in the fight to help in Argus and Gael

-Against Costavozka, the Solaryi navy seized supremacy in the Karnali sea and launches a blockade, however it dissolves into a stalemate with Solaryi forces unable to penetrate enemy shore defenses.

-However, by 1943-1944, it becomes clear that Solaryia, with its comparatively small population compared to the other states, has overstretched its military, and they start to get pushed back, particularly as they lose a decisive naval battle to <insert FP country here>.

-By 1945 and 1946, they’re pushed back to various island holdouts and the peninsula itself, however the large amounts of fortifications, mountainous cold climate, and small numbered but very well trained veteran troops are able to hold the line.

-In late 1946, the monarch is killed, either by assassination or in some sort of battle, which makes the country fall into chaos. A group of nobles seizes temporary power and come to the negotiating table, losing Solaryia nearly all of their remaining colonies and conquered land, as well as large portions of their two exclaves on Raedlon, which can no longer be militarized, along with Rosendål island. (However they would eventually retake these territories from Scaedia in the 1980s during their civil war.

-Despite bringing peace, a large portion of the now devastated and very angry population of the country feels that the elective monarchy and nobles have completely failed them, and a prospective new leader and military hero named Ensi Alsen starts to become influential in the late 1940s.

Any thoughts or opinions regarding this? This is just a very very rough draft I made on discord, so I intend on improving and detailing it far more as the new canon is fleshed out.

Postby Dormill and Stiura » Sat Aug 13, 2022 6:29 pm

Alright, guess I should add my participation in the Imperial War.

Carrying over from the last thread, let's go over how things will go for Dormill and Stiura.
  • In 1909, after several decades of rule, President Nicholas Favre, a socialist firebrand and the most popular President in Doraltic history, is deposed from office by a popular revolt against his efforts to centralize federal power behind his office. The National Congress, which up until this point had been mostly complicit in his grabs at power, are now forced to reconcile with the revolutionary crowd and concede to their demands. Foremost among them was the creation of the National Assembly as a new, proportionally representative legislative body. Although historically seen as a lower house to the National Congress, it was then a totally separate body that transcended the borders of the Republics. In addition to these changes, Dormill and Stiura formally transitions into a semi-Presidential system when the National Assembly empowered the Chief Tribune with several executive powers that Favre attempted to assert for himself.
  • From 1910 onwards, Doraltic domestic politics becomes dominated by social mobilization, antagonism towards the rigid and conservative political system upheld by the Republics and the National Congress, and fears of an economic downturn in the wake of the Parrot War in Argus. This provides the breeding grounds for Marxist thought and a new breed of reactionary thought in turn, Fraternalism.
  • Fraternalism is an anti-statist reactionary ideology with a heavy emphasis on male chauvinism, ultranationalism, and social Darwinism. Developed as a reactionary answer to the growth of Marxism, Fraternalists believed that it was their sworn mission to beat the Communists to the revolution and transform society into a National Fraternity defined by might-makes-right dynamics with no limitations of the law that Liberals relied on to maintain their flawed sense of power. An offshoot ideology, Utopian Fraternalism, also develops throughout the 1920s as it seeks to dissolve the current notion of "Doraltic" nationhood into an idealized "Gaeltic" nationhood, seeking to bridge growing divides between the French and Dutch communities while also appealing to the discontented people across Gael to join their cause and "share" in the power of the common Fraternity.
  • Among the Utopians is Ludovic Denis, a General and veteran of the Hintuwan-Doraltic War who saw firsthand the fighting spirit of the Hintuwani people and believed that he could join them in his revolutionary movement by promising that the strong of Hintuwan would be seen as complete and undeniable equals to all other members of the Fraternity. His efforts alongside those of his political supporters in the Ministry of Insular Affairs would be the driving force behind the formation of the Second Republic of Hintuwan in 1943.
  • In the interim years, a shrewd businessman, Hugo Sonner, won the Presidency in 1920 from the ex-VP of Favre, Dieudonne Blaise. Sonner's Presidency would be defined as the first true infiltration of Fraternalism within the Doraltic federal government as both the National Congress and National Assembly came under the influence of the Fraternity of Revolution and Restoration, Ludovic Denis' political movement, although Denis himself would bill himself as a member of the National Republican Party to gain supporters among the urban anti-socialist bloc. As a result, Denis' brand of Utopian Fraternalism, which by this point had started adopting Accelerationist rhetoric, influenced Sonner's decision-making, driving him to bring an abrupt end to Doraltic business regulation and closing the Bank of the United Republics.
  • The abrupt shock to the economy caused a bank rush that saw the beginning of the end of Sonner's presidency. His woes would continue when it was revealed by the Vroomen Dispatch that Sonner's own company had bought millions of Guilders into many of the sectors the President was about to deregulate several weeks before the decision became public. Accusations of insider trading by President Sonner would drive an impeachment inquiry by the Denis-influenced National Assembly, which obviously initiated an Impeachment against Sonner as soon as further evidence conveniently materialized. During the hearings in the National Congress, Denis' followers attacked several Staatskapitens and prominent leaders within several Republic governments, forcing them to order their Stadtholders to vote to convict Sonner and remove him from office.
  • Sonner was removed from office in 1935, and most of his government was also removed by the National Assembly (which held the power over Ministerial appointments) except for Minister of Insular Affairs Leo Weiner and Minister of the Administration Othmar Geary, the latter of whom would be thrust into the Presidency as the first and only person to have been not elected into a public office before becoming President. As a lifelong Bureaucrat, Geary was easy bait for Denis as his attention was squarely focused on keeping up with Doraltic federal administration as have all his predecessors. His "attempt" to run for election in the run-up to 1939 was almost soundly rebuffed when Progressive Merv De Vries joined the race for President, seeking to course correct before Denis had the chance to take power completely.
  • Unfortunately for Doraltic honor forevermore, Denis' cunning use of rhetoric whipped the people into a frenzy of Fraternalists. He would be swept into office in 1939 even though several Republics, namely New Friesland, Eppendorf, and Ardeda attempted to resist by appointing a slate of De Vries-aligned progressives during the Spring of 1939.
  • In August 1939, after a vote to push the upcoming election forward to secure Denis' victory was shoved through a now thoroughly Fraternalist National Congress, the Republics of New Friesland, Eppendorf, Zwolle, Feerwerd, Ardeda, and Kapolder each individually passed articles of secession, citing the recent vote as the last in a long list of violations of the Constitution made by Denis and his Fraternalists. The Dutch Republics would reform the United Batavian Provinces and call the first Batavian States-General since 1795 while Ardeda sought to form their own unique government. Both would be crushed by the Summer of 1940 except for holdouts that joined Merv De Vires forces throughout 1941-42.
  • The Doraltic Civil War as I've written it here, from August 1939 through August 1940 remains the same.
  • Merv De Vires escapes from Roendavar once he is made aware of the fact that Denis' spies are after him. He eventually flees all the way to the Doraltic possession of Duinen right beside Keverai. At the same time, Monet's mutinied navy gains reinforcements from other anti-Denisian naval forces across the Southern Sea and joins De Vires in Duinen.
  • Throughout the following year, Denis and De Vires fight in skirmishes across the Southern Sea, Denis utilizing extensive commerce raiding against shipping bound towards Duinen or other ports that have harbored Monet's fleet. This (should) prompt Doraltic rivals into conflict as their shipping eventually become targets in this extended Doraltic Civil War.
  • At some point in 1941, the Iszkari Confederation intervenes and starts to embargo trade towards Dormill and Stiura or between Doraltia and Hintuwan, still under the thralls of Leo Weiner's efforts to install a Fraternalist government. Other Eternan states join in solidarity, thoughts of a blockade against Hintuwan stirred and so do rumors of a possible invasion to bring the Kilusang Bayang Muog (National Fortress Movement) to power and liberate Hintuwan from Doraltic colonialism.
  • In May 1941, Coldwoods joins the effort to constrict Doraltic trade across the Eterna, hoping to remain neutral by pushing a warring power away from Coldwood waters. Instead, this drives Denis to select Coldwoods as the first target in efforts to enforce the movement of Doraltic trade towards Hintuwan. He would declare war against Coldwoods the next year after preparing a large Navy, Marine, and Air Force campaign to sweep aside the defenses of Coldwoods.
  • From 1941 through 1946, Dormill and Stiura would participate in the Imperial War against the Free Powers, but also against the Neo-Imperialists after an ideological falling out between Neo-Imperialists and Fraternalists. By the end of the war, Dormill and Stiura would negotiate peace with the Free Powers to the effect of D&S having to pay for its war indemnities to the Free Powers in exchange for a restoration of territorial integrity of all the nations involved in the fighting. Denis from that point until the end of the 40s would join the Free Powers in bringing an end to the Neo-Imperialists, though he and his government would remain pariahs until his death in 1978.

Of particular notice, all of the people in and around the Eterna Sea and the Southern Sea are welcome to interact with my part of the Imperial War by responding to what I've written. As for how I weave into the rest of the Imperial War, I did outline in my previous posts that for a time in the early part of the war, Doraltia was aligned with the Neo-Imperialists, but fell out of favor as the war developed into ~1943. In this case, I'm citing a deep ideological divide between the more typical nationalists or fascists in Solaryia, Wellsia, and the United Partitions against Doraltic, Javierian, and Hintuwani Fraternalism, although I am welcome to discuss where and how the three theaters could become more "unified" in terms of participation between one and the other.

In any case, I still believe that the arc of the war should go that the wars in Gael and Raedlon end before the War in Argus, which takes a combined effort to subdue from all sides, leading to an uneasy peace between Argus, Gael, and Raedlon as governments reform and recover from the devastating effects of the war.

Hey Dormill, I know you begin to attack Coldwood in 1941. I think I have a basic idea of how things could work out following your attack so that Yursea could join the war.

Yursea's Government would respond to your attack by beginning to mobilize it's military and would also send a note of protest to your embassy here in Yukcaster. You can choose to ignore it if you want, I'm basing this off of your comment on Discord that Denis would basically have a "move or be moved" stance towards us. So why would he respond to another government telling him to stop? Private citizens in Yursea, who felt sorry for the citizens of Coldwood would organize a ocean liner called the Brightstar to carry medical supplies to Coldwoods. Since this would be the beginning stages of your war you could maybe have your large navy that you mentioned try to stop the Brightstar and when it would refuse to be boarded and searched sink it? This would cause a huge amount of outrage in the National Convention back in Yukcaster, leading to a War declaration by Prime Minister Wallace. What are your thoughts on this?

To correct one thing, Dormill and Stiura didn't invade Coldwoods until 1942 after spending over a year assembling and training the forces necessary for that large of an expedition.

As for the rest, depending on how things go with Razzgriz it's entirely possible that by the end of 1941 and going into 1942 would have been the time where D&S started going into unrestricted commerce warfare, both with submarines and surface ships. The Brightstar would, either the way you frame it or in the context of unrestricted commerce raiding, have become a target and likely sunk with a large portion of its crew and passengers on board, leading to the declaration of war.

Since Coldwoods would be under functional Doraltic control by mid-1942 and since San Jiminez and Hintuwan wouldn't officially become Fraternalist until 1943, that leaves a several-month period where our forces would have been fighting, with you gaining support from Razzgriz and the other Free Powers. It's also likely with this that Yursea would've been involved in the liberation of Coldwoods and San Jiminez in 1945-46, and likely the Renetian Colonies depending on how he wants to become involved.

Apologies for the incorrect date in my post. I am basing the sinking of the Brightstar off of the Lusitania, I was always interested in it and I think I see a neat way for Yursea to have proper justification for entry into the war. As for survivors, I'd probably only have a few lifeboats as the Ocean Liner would be filled to the brim with needed medical supplies. You could take these survivors hostage as temporary POWs. I like what you have imagined with Yursea being involved in the liberation of Coldwoods and San Jiminez, I am trying to get closer in lore with those two so this would be a excellent way to do so. I will bring it up with them but perhaps I shall give their Governments home in Yukcaster until their land is liberated. Yursea would probably not be as strong as you but we will certainly give you hell and would never surrender.

It's also likely with this that Yursea would've been involved in the liberation of Coldwoods and San Jiminez in 1945-46, and likely the Renetian Colonies depending on how he wants to become involved.

Noticing where the winds were blowing, Foreign Minister James Daniels persuades President Edward Miller into expanding the length of the military buildup in 1939, as the Fraternalists regain power in Dormill and Stiura. The navy is bolstered to a similar level to its height in later years, while the length of the Army reaches its height in Renetian history, while the colonial forces are strengthed as much as possible. In 1941, by the time which Daniels is also appointed Prime Minister, Renet joins the rest of the Free Powers at the outbreak of the Imperial War. After Dormill's early success against Renetian shipping, a convoy system is adopted to protect the Renetian Trade Triangle, which is the trading network of the four colonies located to the South, which is successful. But that is after Allivent, early in the war, and eventually Concordia by 1943 at the latest, after inital attempts to hold it, fall to Doraltic invasion. The loss of Allivent and especially Concordia, as the second oldest colony and the former crown jewel of the former Renetian Empire, deal a serious blow to the Renetian morale and the economy but stiffen the central's government to continue the war. The fall of these colonies allowed the colonial defensive perimeter to be tightened, and it is successfully held after a naval battle with the Doraltic fleet results in a crushing Renetian victory. Renetian ground forces are deployed to assist Yursea in aiding Coldwoods and San Jimienz.

The submarine fleet is held in reserve as long as possible before being beginning commerce raiding to allow the Doraltic submarine fleet to be whittled away as the war goes on, and by the time it is critically weakened, the Renetian submarine fleet deploys and absolutely smashes Doraltic shipping, choking off their trade and supply routes and shifting the tide of the conflict in San Jimenez and Coldwoods in the Free Powers' favor, allowing Yursea and Renet to drive the Doraltic forces out of those countries. This is prioritised over reclaiming Allivent and Concordia, to allow the Doraltic occupation forces to whittle away from lack of supplies and constant attacks by colonial Renetian partisans and surviving soldiers who refused to surrender.

Prime Minister Daniels, who is the driving force behind the war with President Miller taking a backseat, demands Dormill return Allivent and Concordia before they are allowed to make peace and defect to the Free Powers. With troop and logistics support from Yursea, Renetian troops land in those two colonies and accept the surrender of the Doraltic garrisons after they inevitably are forced to cede them back, who are accordingly disarmed and sent home as Renet resecures the two island colonies. Renet shifts its focus to the Southern Western Isles to aid the Free Powers there, and as retalation for Dormill's initial alliance with the Neo-Imperialists, only gives it the barest minium of supplies and troops to aid their new ally. Renetian-Doraltic relations remain expectionally poor until the reestablishment of the United Republics and a likely Thaw that we should probably work on a later date.

Hey Renet, I just read through all of this and I am okay with everything written. Perhaps we can share convey systems to protect each others shipping that goes through our territorial waters? Also, perhaps our Governments should discuss a defense pact before even formal war is declared due to Dormill aggressive actions leading up to the war? Hope all of this is to your liking.

Alright, this is good work. Aside from how Razzgriz, Ivolshok, Aprosia, and Doravo might be involved (Razz especially as he's my main rival during that era), I feel pretty set in the lore established for the Imperial War's Eastern Front. For the sake of everybody else, a new timeline.

  • 1939, August: The Doraltic Civil War begins with Ludovic Denis attacking the seceding Republic of Kapodler. Within three months, most of the United Republics federal military splits down the middle between Fraternalists and anti-Fraternalists. The most significant split is within the Navy as Admiral Lukas Monet II (or Jr.) pulls off a large officer mutiny against Denis, robbing him of most of the Battleships and the two Aircraft Carriers Dormill and Stiura had.
  • 1940, August: After a year of fighting against anti-Fraternalist forces, Merv De Vires, his close supporters, and the remnants of the States-General escape into Roendavar. Denis declares victory and immediately starts work on restoring the Navy to its pre-war condition, requiring extensive importation of raw materials from abroad, oil especially.
  • 1940, Fall: By the fall, De Vires and his States-General, the exiled government of the United Republics, have resettled in the colonial city of Duinen, an island immediately off the coast of Keverai. Monet's fleet joins De Vires and begins a campaign of harassing shipping bound for Doraltia. At the same time, Hintuwan, Charbagnia (which had been under constant Doraltic influence since the late 1800s), and Sawneeak are caught in the middle of this new phase of the civil war. Sawneeak would be captured by Monet's Marines and Charbagnia would attempt to assert its independence, which initially succeeds but its government is fragile.
  • 1940 - 1941, Winter: The increasingly chaotic nature of this Doraltic Civil War and the steady rise in submarine warfare on the part of Denis starts to spread into neutral nations in the Eterna and Southern Seas. Razzgriz, the rival of Dormill and Stiura for decades up to this point, is the first to act by enacting a trade embargo against Dormill and Stiura. At the same time, Iszkari officials grant safe harbor to Monet's fleet and communicate with the States-General. Other Eterna and Southern Sea states also issue embargoes and align with Razzgriz.
  • 1941, 16 March: Solaryian and Salimanese forces jointly begin the invasion of San Montagna, marking the start of the Imperial War. Soon thereafter, Wellsia also begins its campaign in South Argus and in the Southern Sea. Fraternalist forces are initially aligned with the Neo-Imperialists out of convenience, but stark ideological differences makes a formal alliance between the Doraltic Fraternal State and the Neo-Imperialists impractical.
  • 1941, May: Coldwoods joins the growing list of Eternan nations to embargo Dormill and Stiura. Sensing that the government of Coldwoods was the weakest of those that tried to threaten his plans to open lines of supply into Hintuwan, Denis starts to pressure the Coldwoods government, demanding that their decision to side with the embargo was a violation of their neutrality. Other Gaeltic states also signal their neutrality, which Denis hypocritically respects.
  • 1941, Summer - Winter: The rest of 1941 is marked by a kind of "Phoney War" as the (the name is a suggestion) League of the Free Powers engages in all three theaters of the war, and is losing. The Eternan Campaign shows a major shift during this time with the first formal declarations of war against Dormill and Stiura.
  • 1942, May: Denis launches the Invasion of Coldwoods. Coldwoods would fall under effective control by that August (with its military crippled and Navy scuttled) but still resisting throughout the rest of the war.
  • 1942, before Fall: At some point between the Invasion of Coldwoods and its fall, the people of Yuresa, in protest of their government's inaction towards the invasion, organize a relief effort via the ocean liner Brightstar. The Brightstar would be intercepted by a submarine then a surface combatant and ordered to surrender for inspection, to identify and remove contraband that might be bound for the military forces of Coldwoods. In an act of barbarity, a large portion of the civilians aboard are killed by Fraternalist Marines and their supplies hijacked as soon as the Brightstar is boarded. The Brightstar would then be sunk with its crew and several other civilians being held hostage, eventually shipped to Doraltia as prisoners. This would lead to Yursea declaring war against Dormill and Stiura.
  • 1943: During this year, both San Jimenez and Hintuwan become fully Fraternalist and join the war effort with Dormill and Stiura, though the war has not progressed well as naval engagements increasingly favor the Free Powers.
  • 1944: During this year, the Fraternalist Navy is mostly lost in a decisive battle, Denis' ability to prosecute the war beyond the northeastern front is lost, and even his grip here is fading thanks to combined Free Powers advances.
  • 1945: During this year, Coldwoods is liberated by the Free Powers followed soon thereafter by the Renetian Colonies, all that is left between the Free Powers and Doraltia by the east is San Jimenez and what remains of the Fraternalist Navy.
  • 1946, Before Summer: Denis manages to negotiate a conditional surrender to the Free Powers, exchanging a ceasefire with the eastern Free Powers in exchange for participating in the campaign to bring the Imperial War to an end in Argus. During the official peace negotiations, though Dormill and Stiura fought with the Free Powers in Argus, Denis is denied the ability to negotiate for Dormill and Stiura, the honor is instead turned over to Merv De Vires and the States-General, which demands Denis grant amnesty to every Doraltic who sided against him alongside paying reparations to the nations he fought against during the war. Hintuwan remains under Doraltic control but the war has weakened it to the point of collapse by the turn of 1950. Denis' government would remain an international pariah until 1978.

Alright, here is a short description of what I have. For the most part, it is still similar to what we previously discussed. Now, Yursea and Renet have a role in the Jimenean side of the conflict.

In terms of, "What side is San Jimenez on?" this is what I am envisioning:

FREE POWER: The New Republic of San Jimenez (government in exile - the government is still based in San Jimenez in secrecy finding refuge in non-Fraternalist strongholds)
NEO-IMPERIALIST: The Fraternalist Republic of San Jimenez

1922-41
- The problems of the Republic are beginning to take root. During this time, economic decline combined with an inefficient and unproductive government leads to dissatisfaction among the Jimenean people. The Fraternalist Party begins making steady gains in Jimenean politics as the Catholic Collective League loses support and its leaders are divided. Violence becomes common as various political groups struggle for power and the Catholic Collective League tries to maintain stability.

1942
- The Fraternalist Republic is formed as the Fraternalist Party gained a majority of the State Synod and the presidency. Power is secured through political manipulation. Other political affiliations are virtually outlawed in the State Synod. The Fraternalist Party remains unsupported by a majority of the Jimenean population. Most leaders of the old republic are arrested and imprisoned. High-profile leaders are killed. With a series of anti-clerical laws, the Fraternalist Party begins limiting the power and influence of the Church which opposes the Fraternal government's anti-clerical nature. Thousands of clergy are arrested in a series of religious persecution. Freedom leaders resist the Fraternal government's efforts at controlling the country.

Late 1942
- Doraltic soldiers enter the country in collaboration with the Jimenean Fraternalist government. The Jimenean military is ordered not to resist the invading force leading many to abandon their positions and engage the invading Doraltics. Jimenean military personnel who refuse orders are killed and the military begins a purge of anti-Fraternalist members. Freedom leaders are forced to operate in secrecy as Gran Teran becomes a Fraternalist stronghold. The New Republic of San Jimenez is formed by freedom leaders and the provisional Council of the Republic begins its years-long operation to free the country from Fraternalist rule.

1942-45
- Operations by the New Republic against the Fraternalist government begin. Espionage, sabotage, and collaboration with Free Power governments occur. Small-scale engagements and raids aimed at weakening the Fraternalist government's ability to wage war are widespread. The New Republic gains steady strength and momentum as blockade runners, mainly en route to Renet and Yursea, bring into San Jimenez weapons, equipment, and volunteer regiments to serve in the New Republic's armed forces.

- Jimenean men are pressed into service by the Fraternalist government. Unrest rises to an all-time high as Jimenean men who refuse service are imprisoned and Church persecution continues. Secret dealings between the Church and the New Republic occur as both engage in efforts to free the country.

1946
- In an ambitious effort, the "Battle of Gran Teran" takes place as New Republic forces make a desperate attempt to liberate the city. Regiments from Yursea and Renet assist the Jimenean New Republic army in the city's liberation. The sixteen-day battle resulted in a stunning New Republic victory. With the Fratneralist government receiving little foreign assistance as the Free Powers begin making successful gains in the war effort, the tide of war in San Jimenez shifts in the New Republics' favor. Efforts to crush the remaining Fraternalist strongholds in San Jimenez continue.

Late 1946
- The Fraternalist government is cornered by Jimenean land forces and naval forces of Renet and Yursea in the coastal city of La Lissari. The Fraternalist government agrees to an unconditional surrender. Jimenean Fraternalist leaders are arrested and placed on trial for crimes committed during the war.

Perhaps the New Republic can reach out for aid secretly to Yursea and maybe even Renet? Otherwise I'm happy with everything listed.

I agree, but once Fraternalist Dormill and Stiura takes Allivent and Concordia as the Imperial War begins to , our advisors and supplies would probably dry up to a trickle at best while we shift our attention to holding the other colonies and sending the majority of our advisors and supplies to Coldwoods come to think of it...

Concept for Itielia in the Imperial War

After the two-year civil war, the communists proclaimed the People's Republic on 1st June 1940 in a divided and economically weak country, after the overthrown of pseudo-liberal Second Republic.

The Civil War was caused by economic degradation, partially caused by the presence of Solaryian economic imperialism. An unspecific strike suppressed by Itielian gendarmerie soon escalated into armed uprising led by the underground Communist Party which was the last force which didn't endorse the current regime and instead preferred to go into underground.

It is quite likely that Solaryians revanchists will try to subjugate Itielia and destroy the local revolution which can threaten its own social system.

After giving the current lore further consideration, I believe that the Íszkárì Confederation will be participating in the Imperial War in a limited capacity. Roendavar joining the neo-imperials really complicates Íszkárì politics leading into the war, and the unrest in Nhoor only further muddies the water. Thus I believe that the Confederation will only be directly participating in actions taken against Fraternalist Dormil & Sturia and Republican Roendavar.

I know this muddles up what we have discussed so far Martenyika, but I now think it would be better if there was just a lend-lease agreement between our nations. The Íszkárì could deliver goods and volunteers through Hálôptì in order to support your war effort. If possible, and with your permission Ainslie, I’d like to include Henrite mercenaries amongst the number of personnel sent to Martenyika.

Here's what I'm planning as far as the Keverai & Diachen (now Duinen) rehash I've had to do following the shift in allegiances as a result of the new IW1 canon and the absence of Serpens Land.

Background
In 1941, Arden Carrow was re-elected as Chief Consul of Keverai - a nation which had only been independent for just short of fifty years. Independence was offered as a result of the Rickemonde accords, which promoted decolonisation efforts - a treaty widely seen as aggravating to the up and coming imperial powers who would later join the Neo-Imperialist forces. Carrow, a beneficiary of the close relationship he had with Ainslie, was in his third term as Keverai’s Chief Consul and was largely viewed as a popular figure who was calm, rational yet deeply patriotic. As hostilities grew both locally and further afield, Keverai was quick to declare its neutrality. Whilst its people were intrigued by the activities of their neighbours, their mindset was deeply impacted by the Ahnslen way of thinking - which promoted such an approach of neutrality.

However, this would prove to be unsustainable. Strengthening allegiances to the Neo-Imperialist cause and anti-Denisian exiles escaping to Duinen would bring Keverai close to the forefront of armed conflict. Carrow, like the Ahnslens back home, were quietly yet similarly pessimistic about their chances in defending Keverai. As a result, Keverai began evacuation efforts to nearby friendly Free Powers nations and also to Ainslie who were highly committed to efforts to bring dual nationals and Ahnslen nations back home well before any invasion took place. This delicate peace, made possible through treaties, goodwill and pure luck at times, saw thousands flee Kertalin - particularly Ahnslen nationals and dual nations, women, children and the elderly. The evacuation was not complete though when the circumstances in Duinen escalated rather than those in Keverai. Heavy fighting outside of Duinen made it impossible for Keveraites to effectively evacuate amidst the blockade. The fighting in Duinen would quickly extend to Kertalin too, forcing the evacuation inland to the west and forming an insurgency against Neo-Imperialist Forces who rapidly attained effective control of the whole of Keverai. The support of Duinen by Kertalin in particular saw Doraltic forces then push into the Keveraite capital as Salimanese forces moved down the coast to the east. The nation, with little military support and running out of allies, offered little resistance initially however a guerilla-level insurgency would continue to be a thorn in the side of the occupying forces and the only notable pushback against Neo-Imperialists in Keverai.

Timeline
  • 1922 - In accordance with Ainslie’s obligations under the Rickemonde Accords, the decolonisation efforts in Keverai began.
  • 3 January 1929 - Following a successful transitional period, the handover in power from the Ahnslen Transitional Government to the Keveraite Transitional Government occurred - resulting in Keverai declaring independence from Ainslie on the same day.
  • 1941 - Chief Consul Arden Carrow is re-elected as Chief Consul of Keverai, making him the second Chief Consul and the first to be re-elected for a second term.

Major Event - Battle of Duinen
  • 22 August 1943 - Doraltic forces launch their inevitable attack on Duinen, ending their blockade.
  • 25 August 1943 - Duinen falls to the Neo-Imperialists, leaving much of the city in ruins. 2,800 local Duinen personnel are killed and 330 Keveraite soldiers lose their lives as a result of the battle.
  • 25 August 1943 - Keveraites, Doraltic defectors and a patchwork of Free Powers volunteers help slow the advance on Kertalin from Duinen, allowing much of the city to be successfully evacuated - however, in a much more haphazard way than was originally planned or wished for.

    Invasion of Keverai
  • 5 September 1943 - Following the evacuation of Kertalin, the defenders slowly retreat - resulting in an easy Neo-Imperialist conquest of the capital.
  • 8 September 1943 - Battle of Leratrine occurs, marking a shift in tactics from the Keveraites. Citizens and the remnant defenders band together and the result becomes a costly ten day fight between neo-imperialists and the resisting guerilla units that the joint forces create.
  • 18 September 1943 - Defensive units are forced back to Serratatl following the falling of Leratrine.
  • 22 September 1943 - Salimanese forces blitzkrieg Serratatl, causing a chaotic evacuation from Keverai’s west coast towards nearby friendly countries.
  • 23 September 1943 - Zastere announces the occupation of Keverai, forming the Partition of Quevuaratl, a name which pays hommage to what the Chad-Chajd called the land whilst they were still an empire. He appoints a First Partitioner, <> who rules over Keverai with an iron fist.

    Occupation of Keverai
  • 2 January 1944 - The Neo-Imperialists, delayed by unpredictable and sporadic resistance from local Keveraite bandit groups supported by the joint forces, finally find themselves in a position to capture Barie, the last major city in the nation under Carrow’s control.
  • 4 January 1944 - Upon hearing the news that the Battle of Serratetl is imminent, Carrow and key members of his government flee to Aizcona.
  • 18 January 1944 - Serratetl falls to the Neo-Imperialists, resulting in chaos in the waters between Aizcona and Keverai and sparking a number of small naval skirmishes.
    Liberation of Keverai
  • 14 February 1947 - A military junta overthrows the Zastere regime in the Republic of Khuazzah, a rewarding result for the espionage efforts of the Free Powers.
  • 19 September 1947 - The provisional government of the United Partitions announces a full withdrawal from Keverai, resulting in remaining occupiers having to rule over the territory. These remaining occupiers are met with far more ill will than the Salimanese occupiers, who garnered some level of loyalty from the locals
  • 14 February 1948 - With the assistance of Keveraite resistance groups on the ground, Free Powers rush Serratatl and liberate it
  • February-April 1948 - Liberation forces swiftly push across Keverai, leaving the Neo Imperialists to retreat or face unacceptably high losses.
  • 3 April 1948 - The flag of the occupying forces are pulled down across Kertalin, the Keveraite capital, and burned in the streets by the Keveraites. Arden Carrow is reinstalled as the leader of Keverai.

In this new canon, I think Martenyika will be on the free powers side.

This opens up a lot of potential for prewar tension and wartime exploits between Wellsia and I, plus obviously nations from both sides can contribute to fighting in this south Argean theater of war.

Reposted from the old thread:

In General: Uprea remained neutral throughout the whole IW, which also means it would have abstained from diplomatic relations and trading with other nations until the war ended in 1948 and would have likely waited a few years or so after that until the situation has calmed down.

Uprea would have been in a state of armed neutrality, essentially meaning Uprea would have done everything in order to protect their neutrality. Any foreign military personnel inside Upreas borders (whether its air, land or maritime), would have been treated as an invasion and attacked. The only exemption from that would have been hospital ships, who were only allowed to pass through uprean waters.

I would be very open to spinoff a story from this. I would imagine a neo-imperialistic country could have very likely laid their eyes on Uprea as a potential target. Especially in the Southern Sea. I could also see how an accidental miscoordination of troops by a nation led to Uprea engaging somehow. If anyone is interested just send me a TG.
