TASK FORCE GUNGIR|SPEC-OPS RP|OOC|OPEN|

OVERVIEW
It is an alternate July, 2022. Tensions between the Eastern powers of Russia and China, and the stalwart global defenders of NATO are rising steadily. Tensions between the two factions have yet to boil over, and vague threats and harsh words are the only thing being launched. The Middle East is in a state of political disarray after the withdrawal of NATO forces and the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan. It is here, where our story begins.

Task Force Aegis* was founded in 2001 after the 9/11 attacks as a “Research and Development” unit that was supposed to combine the best and brightest scientific minds to serve NATO. However, in reality it was a multi-nation black-ops unit designed to do NATO’s dirty work. TFA conducted operations in Turkey, Brazil, Myanmar, Indonesia, Afghanistan, and Tajikistan before finally being shut down for good after an operation in Estonia in early 2022 resulted in the deaths of several operators and the discovery of Task Force Aegis by Russian Intelligence.

However, the idea of Task Force Aegis is far from gone. A few months after Task Force Aegis was shut down, Task Force Gungnir was founded to replace it. Learning from Task Force Aegis’ mistake, only NATO nations are allowed to send operators, and only those with the highest level security clearances know about TFG. It has no cover story, and not a soul outside of Brussels knows about the unit. It is currently based out of AFB Rammstein in Germany, appearing as any other group of contractors or SOCOM unit that drifts about the busy installation.

Task Force Gungnir was created for a specific purpose, that was to conduct deniable operations in various parts of the world to advance and/or protect NATO interests. On operations you will be on your own. There will be no friendly military on stand-by to bail you out, if you are captured or found dead, no government will claim you. The work done by Task Force Gungnir is unforgiving, but necessary to the advancement of the interests of the Free World.

You are the best of the best Operator, now go out there and show the Brass that they were right to choose you.

Following the Taliban takeover of Afghanistan, Iran and Pakistan had to deal with the radical Muslims on their border. Taliban and Northern Alliance forces are fighting a grueling civil war in the northern reaches of the country, and in Pakistan, ISIS insurgents have armed and radicalized various tribal groups into open rebellion against the Pakistani Government. The Pakistani military brutally exterminated the Khattak tribe, hoping to subdue the rebellion by fear. However the rebels were undeterred, and the Pakistani government has all but lost control of most of the country.

In Afghanistan, Iran is suspected to be supplying the Shia Northern Alliance with equipment, training, and even special forces assistance in an effort to topple the zealous, Sunni Taliban.

In Europe, Russia and Ukraine are at war, with Russian forces having been brought to a standstill in the eastern portions of Ukraine by a heroic Ukrainian defense, as well as NATO funding and assistance. The war in Ukraine caused China, Kazakhstan, and other allies of Russia to attempt to distance themselves from their ally, causing tension within CSTO. Meanwhile, Finland and Sweden joined NATO due to threats of invasion by Russia, and now the two countries further expand the military alliance’s reach.

OOC STUFF
Task Force Gungnir is a small-scale, special operations RP based in an alternate 2022. The RP is designed to reflect modern warfare, special operations, and the moral & ethical dilemmas that face special forces operatives today. The RP will only allow one character per player.
Players will create an operator from any NATO/NATO-friendly country's special forces, and are welcomed to be as creative as they want with their application.

Every operation is dynamic, but will stick to a linear story line/static goal. Each operation's outcome is dependent on whether or not if the operating group has completed various objectives and/or have been successful in their operations. This means that although the linear story line/static goal may call for the downfall of an oppressive regime, if the operators were unsuccessful, the new reigning government may be less friendly or downright hostile to NATO instead of a friendly or neutral attitude. Therefore, it is imperative that in each operation, every operator pays close attention to what they are supposed to do and not do.
RULES
    1. Decisions by staff are final
    2. Violence will be a key part of this RP, but this is not the place to describe Evil Dead levels of gore. Keep it to a Saving Private Ryan level
    3. Do not expect to win every fight, only with proper planning, maneuvers, and decisions will you overcome the obstacles that will be thrown at you.
    4. While I will not kill your character for no reason, if you fail to properly respond to a situation, it will have consequences for your character or your allies' health.
    5. Keep it civil in the OOC, and keep OOC things out of the IC
    6. No meta-gamming or godmodding.
    7. Keep it realistic, even though you will be playing cream of the crop Tier 1 operators, you are not superhuman.
    8. You will be expected to function as a team, those who choose to go off on Lone Wolf escapades will not only find their characters killed, but may be removed from the RP in specific circumstances.
    9. Proper grammar is expected in posts, as well as a minimum length of 2 paragraphs, exceptions will be made on a case-by-case basis

APPLICATION
The following are the player application. It requires every detail to be filled out. Modifying the application's format is permitted, so as long as none of the details that are outlined are not removed and are still clear in the application. .

Additional Information
Likes: American football, coffee, rock music.
Dislikes: Hot weather, overly-strict regulations.
Fears: Spiders, deep water.
Personality: Jordan cares little for being a people pleaser. He's direct, blunt, and to the point. When he's working he rarely speaks unless there is something important for him to say. While he's not an unfriendly or anti-social person, he prefers to stay detached from colleagues as he's seen plenty of his comrades die. Grey has a very "Mission first" mind-set, and will show remarkable tenacity and stubbornness when he sets his mind to something.
Immediate Family: Vanessa Grey (wife), Julian Grey (Son)
Biography:
Jordan Grey was born in to a military family in Virginia. his father had fought in Vietnam, and his mother served in the US Air Force. As such Jordan grew up in a strict and regimented household. Naturally the young man was pressured to do well in school, and do well he did. In high school he took a multitude of AP courses, as well as foreign language classes. Furthermore he played football for his high school, and took his team to regional championships as its quarterback.

Due to his academic excellence and extracurricular performance, Jordan would apply to and be accepted by West Point, where he would graduate 15th in a class of 40. In the Army he would be put through the ringer in terms of combat deployments, spending a combined total of 6 years in the Middle East as a Army Officer. In 2013 he would join the Green Berets and spent 4 years with SFG 1 in Iraq and Syria combatting ISIS forces. Here he performed as one of the best operators the Berets had, time and again showing his tactical and combat prowess in the line of duty. On one notable event, Jordan's unit was ambushed by ISIS forces, and as bodies of americans began hitting the ground, Grey rallied a handful of men on a attack against one side of the enemy's ambush, breaking their formation and sending the insurgents into disarray. In this ambush he was shot in the arm, carrying on the fight with his sidearm. He would win the Silver Star for his gallantry under fire.

In 2014 the CIA would contact Jordan, recruiting him to join the Agency's secretive paramilitary force, the SOG. He would accept the offer and was trained rigorously in languages, field craft, HUMINT, combatives, SERE, and other skills the CIA felt necessary he should have. He has been a part of SOG for 4 years, travelling all over the world, but mainly back to the Middle East, to complete whatever objectives the Agency sets for him, regardless of the cost.

In his career with SOG, Grey quickly adapted to the more loose posture the Agency had on the SOG teams. He quickly capitalized on his new freedom to complete missions with swift, decisive, and on more than one occasion, brutal action. Grey has been sent to hunt down high ranking members of terrorist groups and other organizations which the Agency finds undesirable, rescue CIA case officers and agents, and perform counter-terrorist operations against insurgent groups all over the Middle East.

Immediate Family:Nazanina Quinn, Wife
Ellen Quinn, Daughter
Biography:
Quinn's early life has few points of note, he came from a lower-middle-class family that lived in the Alum Rock neighborhood of San Jose, California. His childhood seemed to have been pleasant enough with his father working as a municipal garbage collector and his mother a nurse at Regional Medical Center. At school Quinn was a mostly C and occasionally B student who showed an aptitude for history and English courses. The first clear point of interest in his life is the death of his parents in 2009 during his first year of high school. At the time of their deaths, he was attending James Lick High with his best friend at the time Nazanina Ghani, whose family took both Quinn and his sister in after the "incident". The incident itself is particularly unfortunate, a workmate of Harry's father had loaned him two thousand dollars to help with Harry's Sister Jasmine's medical bills and after several months of being unable to pay the workmate back a fight broke out when that workmate came to the Quinn household to finally collect. The altercation eventually escalated to a point where the workmate got a pistol from his car to threaten Mr. Quinn but went sideways when, in a struggle, the gun went off and shot Mrs. Quinn in the head. Needless to say, the fighting only got worse and only ended when Mr. Quinn was also shot and killed. Both of the Quinn children were out that night, Harry with Nazanina and Jasmine with friends, and had to be found and informed by the police.
The families had been close for a long time through Harry and Nina's friendship and Hamid and Sahraa Ghani adopted them both when no other next of kin for the children could be found.

Quinn enlisted in the Army directly after graduation with his adoptive parent's blessing, college was not something Quinn felt he would have taken to well and trade school wasn't an attractive option either on the same grounds, and Hamid and Sahraa privately hoped that the Army would help give him a sense of belonging that would help transition him in adapting to his adult life. Quinn went through BCT at Fort Benning and by all accounts was a perfectly average recruit, remembering something his father had told him a long time ago, "Do what they tell you, when they tell you, how they tell you, and don't stop until they tell you." Quinn's time in the Army's medic training program was a bit more difficult for him, but he managed to pass near the head of his class.

After training, Quinn was deployed to the 82nd Airborne's 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment, attending Jump School and proposing to Nazanina in between his graduation from DCMT and his posting in the 504th. He was soon deployed with a large portion of the 504th to Afghanistan's Ghazni province. He served the tour well, often volunteering to attach to patrols that he wasn't explicitly ordered to accompany and making quite the impression with his superiors in the 1st Battalion's BAS. On his return home after his first deployment, he married Nazanina and they moved to housing at Fort Benning. During this time, Nazanina applied to Columbus State University shortly afterward and enrolling in CSU's "College of Letters and Sciences" Robotics Engineering program. Quinn would deploy to Afghanistan again, though this time the 504th would act in a reserve role based out of Bagram, and during this time he became interested in joining the Army SF after interacting with the SFG members who would come through the base.

Quinn struggled with his initial phases of the Q Course though he did manage to pass onward. During Phase I, found his element again, displaying a willingness to learn any and all material provided. During Phase II he was initially assigned Spanish (Note: Catagory 1 language) though when he indicated he was already fluent, passed the Oral Proficiency Interview, and requested a different language course he was reassigned to Vietnamese and went on to pass Phase III without incident.

Quinn made an impression on his instructors during Phase IV, or Robin Sage. The simulated operation's objective was the capture of an enemy officer and rescue of several high-value political prisoners from a camp deep in the North Carolina backcountry and from what I've read it could not have gone worse. The trainee in charge of the operation made several tactical blunders in the leadup to the operation (minimal recon of approach routes, no recon of objectives, arguments with volunteer Guerilla commanders over assault tactics, and dismissive attitude to guerilla recommendations regarding the planned assault), and though Quinn spent most of the days in the lead up to the assault treating the civilian volunteer for heat exhaustion and other minor issues, he spent a large amount of time in the arguments, typically in the Guerilla Commanders corner. In the end it fell to Quinn and another trainee he had become friends with, Tarvo, to lead the simulated assault, which the pair achieved with flying colors.

These days Quinn lives with Nina, now a mathematics professor at the University of Washington. Ellen, who was born with the same illness as Harry's sister, attends an expensive school and is doted on by Harry and Nina.

Past RP Examples: Please god, just let Harry operate

Vaguely a pessimist, certainly an absurdist, unironically an antinatalist.

Place of Birth: Stockholm, Sweden
Strengths:
- Strong willed: Elin didn't make it into SOG on raw strength and athletic ability alone. It was a struggle, mentally as much as physically. Her willpower to push through the demanding SOG course is still present in missions today. She has the mental power to push through demanding operations and prove that she has just as much of a right to be in an elite special operations unit as anyone else.

-Sharpshooter: While she's far from one of the best snipers in the world, she can reliably hit targets past 1000 meters with the right rifle. Her shooting abilities truly shine at closer ranges and she is a deadly marksman within 800 meters, leading to her having been employed in the designated marksman role in the Army Ranger Battalion and on many of her SOG missions. If a target needs to be hit, she can be relied on to take it out at all but the most extreme ranges.

- Cold weather trained: The Army Ranger Battalion is based in the far north of Sweden and is their primary arctic warfare unit. Elin is no stranger to the cold and can be relied upon to perform her duties in extreme winter conditions.

- Language skills: The Swedish education system requires students to learn English from a young age, and the majority of students in Swedish schools study a third language as well. Along with her native Swedish, Elin speaks English nearly fluently and Spanish at an advanced level. She learned Arabic when she joined SOG and is currently taking courses in French given that many of her operations have been in former French colonies in Africa.
Weaknesses:
- Stubborn: Her strong willed nature has a downside and she is prone to trying to push through with plans and methods that have proven ineffective as a result.

- Moralizer: Elin joined the army to help people. In certain situations where there is no true moral option, she may not be able to make a correct decision. While it is commendable for a special operator to stick to their morals, sticking to them too much can be a detriment to the mission.

Additional Information
Likes: Hockey, Swedish metal, coffee, hiking
Dislikes: Overly hot weather, people who litter
Fears: Dogs, accidentally killing innocents during a mission
Personality: Someone who can come across as overly formal and a little cold with people they don't know well, yet can still somehow manage to seem friendly at the same time. A strong team player who will go out of their way to help others when needed.
Immediate Family: Lives alone, next of kin listed as her father, Anders Nylund (57) and mother, Sara Nylund (54).
Biography: Elin was born in Stockholm to her parents Anders, a civil engineer, and Sara, an accountant. Her childhood was more or less the standard with no incidents of note. She was a slightly above average student in school, tried her hands at various sports (ice hockey, football, martial arts), and had a comfortable and supportive home life. Upon completion of high school she wasn't entirely sure where to go next so she took a gap year.

Instead of going to university afterwards, however, Elin joined the Swedish army at the age of 19. After evaluating different options, she felt that it was the kind of challenge she was looking for in her adult life and a good opportunity to do something positive for the world. And if she didn't like it, she could always leave when her term of service was up and study instead. She chose to serve in the Army Ranger Battalion, based in the far north of Sweden. She would go on to serve a tour of duty in northern Mali as part of the UN mission with this unit. She would see occasional gun battles with insurgents, but the feeling that she was making a difference in the lives of local people made the more difficult parts of the mission worth it.

Upon returning to Sweden, Elin applied for selection to SOG. She wanted more chances to deploy and do good for people in less fortunate parts of the world, and SOG would provide this opportunity with its higher operation tempo. She initially struggled with the training. The Army Ranger Battalion already had some of the toughest training in the Swedish military but this was on another level. However, even if she wasn't the strongest or fastest in her training class, she had the willpower to push through it that many others lacked. After completing training, she would be deployed on operations throughout the Middle East and Africa. She also participated in the evacuation of Kabul, extracting Swedish citizens from Taliban controlled areas of the city. When Sweden joined NATO, she was selected to be one of the initial SOG operators rotated into the secretive Task Force Gungnir.

Where is Gungir's home base? I recall Gungir operators are based at the same location, or at least individual teams are.
Vaguely a pessimist, certainly an absurdist, unironically an antinatalist.

Biography: Born the eldest of three in the city of Midelt, Morocco, to his father, a miner, and his mother, a high school teacher. Life growing up for him was normal as it could be in Morocco. He made friends had good grades and generally was nice to be around. All the way up to high school with little problems and it was only when he was twenty-two and in college did things turn south for his family. His father was involved in a mining accident and left him in critical condition. While initially able to afford his medical bills, it was soon apparent that his father needed more care. The costs kept rising and soon the family was in a crisis. Unable to ignore this situation, Aten, despite the pleading of his mother, he dropped out of college and tried to think of ways to support his family.

While joining the military seemed like a good option, Aten did not want to join the Moroccan military for personal reasons as he knows how repressive the government can be in general and toward Berbers. An idea came to him as he remembered how the Priory of Our Lady of Atlas nuns would help his sister and educate her with various skills like learning french. He was taught about the French Foreign Legion in school, and after thinking about it, how the French government seemed better than the Moroccan government to him. Decided that perhaps it was better to join the Legion and send the money he made back to them. So with what money he had, Aten traveled to France, and after passing the exams and being selected. He was officially apart of the Legion and trained as an automatic rifleman. Along with knowledge of heavy weapons.

Aten's first mission was being sent to Mail as part of Operation Serval. To oust Islamic militants from the north of Mali, which would succeed. After Mali and spending three years in the Legion. Aten would grow to respect the Legion as more than a source of income for his family, which his father had finally recovered and was now out of the hospital. Now with his father healed, Aten did think about what to do when his contract was up. Seeing how living in the Legion and France seemed better than what he had in Morocco, Aten decided on staying and would apply for French citizenship. Soon after getting it, Aten wanting to do more for his new home. Elected to volunteer to join the 1st Marine Infantry Paratroopers Regiment. Which he was accepted, and after passing training. He was now apart of the 1st Marine Infantry Paratroopers Regiment

Now, Aten would see action in the Middle East and would return to Mail for some missions. It was during this time that he managed to convince his family to move to France and would settle in the city of Marseille. It was then that Aten was chosen to be a member of the elite but secretive Task Force Gungnir, and now waits to see how working with his new team will go.

TFG's home base is at Rammstein AFB in Germany, however on assignment field handlers will set up safehouses within the AO.

OPERATION BAPTISM
Prepared By: SSO Jordan Grey.

AREA(S) OF OPERATION: Karachi, Sindh Province, Pakistan

BACKGROUND:

In recent months, the political situation in Pakistan has rapidly turned pear shaped, ISIS activity in the tribal lands radicalized the tribes into action, and even after the Pakistanis wiped out an entire tribe they kept pushing down into the government held parts of Pakistan. The Pakistani Military and Insurrectionists have been duking it out in the northern reaches of the country for several months, with no clear winner being defined as of the present time. In the rest of the country, the façade of stability that had been painted over Pakistan began to crumble away. Almost immediately various ethnic militias began sprouting up in the nation's regions. Our primary concern is in the Sindh province, where Sindh Islamic partisans and Pakistani government forces and Pakistani hired contractors are battling for control over the region. However, at this present moment, the Pakistani's have only managed to secure the easternmost and northernmost section of the regions, with only half of the regional capital Karachi under government control. While the city is not quite an active warzone, NATO and Pakistani analysis shows that it could quickly become one. This is where Task Force Gungnir comes in. The Pakistani Air Force has its largest air base in Karachi, which houses several of the aircraft deemed nuclear capable by the Pakistanis. NATO prodding into the subject revealed that there were nuclear warheads on the base in the form of air-launched cruise missiles. Unfortunately, that base is in the red zone, and reports from TFG analysts and the Pakistanis suggest that ISIS fighters have begun to prowl about, likely in search of the nuclear devices. Our objective is to secure the nukes before ISIS gets to them, and meet up with the USS Lewis B. Puller, which will be sitting a few miles off the coast of Pasni, Balochistan, Pakistan. Once you deliver the nuclear devices to a USN CBRN team, they will transport it back to the Chesty Puller in a specialized CH-53 helicopter, and you will be extracted by a Hermes 2-5 Helicopter that will be operating from the Chesty Puller. It should also be noted that the Pakistani's called for aid from China as well, so expect that PLA SOF will be operating in the area, and standing orders are not to engage PLA forces. Furthermore, it is highly likely that Indian Army SOF is in the area to protect and extract the Hindu population of the Sindh Province.

OBJECTIVES

PRIMARY
  • Secure Pakistani Nuclear warheads before ISIS

SECONDARY
  • Help Pakistani Government Forces stabilize Karachi

PRESENT FACTIONS

Friendly Forces (BLUFOR)
  • Pakistani Military and Associated Contractors
  • USS Lewis B. Puller
Hostile Forces (OPFOR)

Dislikes: Boredom, Heat, Humidity
Fears: Nothing.
Personality: Extremely laid back, sometimes too laid back for his own good, Mike treats just about anybody he meets as if he's known them for years, vehemently refusing to be formal no matter who he's talking to unless it's a superior, and even then, he will be as informal as he possibly can. Can come across as not caring, however, he deeply cares about his team and mission and will do anything to accomplish it.
Immediate Family: Meghan Long (Mother) Age 56, Jackson Long (Father) Age 53
Biography:

Micheal "Mike" Long was born the only child to an upper-class family in downtown Montpelier, Vermont. As a child he showed a fondness for skiing, hunting, and, moreso than anything else, hockey. He would go on to play Hockey on his high school team, where he starred as a winger. However, concerns about his grades would not only result in him missing out on a scholarship, but prevented him being accepted to any major universities.

After his failure to be accepted into any universities, Micheal opted to join the military against the advice of his parents, enlisting in January of 2015. After bootcamp, he would be accepted into the 10th Mountain Division, being deployed to Iraq at the height of ISIS's power. His first major engagement would come as part of the Battle of Mosul, taking part in the encirclement of the city. His surprising nonchalantness about shooting and/or being shot earned him a psychological evaluation, which he passed.

Soon after the end of the battle, Mike would go through Ranger School back in the US, being selected for the US Army Rangers, and subsequently deployed to Afghanistan. After developing a hate for warm weather and all things hot save for food, he would be stuck in Afghanistan for the next two years, participating in operations against the Taliban and ISIS-K. After two years of what he described as "Unbearable heat", he would undergo selection for the Regimental Reconnaissance Company for a chance to get out of Afghanistan and away from the heat.

He would be deployed to Uganda.

Uganda was the least combat-heavy of his deployments, as the LRA's power had waned for years before, and only consisted of 150-300 members. Most his time outside the wire was spent responding to reports of LRA attacks, only to find the village ransacked and the LRA members gone, something which weighs heavy on his mind to this day. Soon after, he would be deployed to West Africa, participating in various operations throughout the region against ISIS and its affiliates, being much more combat-intensive than Uganda and giving Mike little downtime. His next deployment was Somalia, where he assisted in combating Al-Shabaab and stabilizing the country's south.

Immediate Family:
Rachel Yimminez (Significant Other)
Drew Jensen (Son 1st marriage)
Brittany Higgs-Jensen (Ex-Wife)
Charles Jensen (Father)
Martha Jensen (Mother)
Biography: Dean was born on a nice hot Summer’s day in June 1985 to Charles and Martha Jensen. The Jensens lived in the city of Madison Wisconsin where Dean went to school, played sports, and on that fateful day in September 2001, watched as his country was under attack.

Dean was 16 at the time of the attack, his father was a local police officer and was tasked with increased patrols in the area and later went to assist NYFD and NYPD in recovery efforts. This led to long-term illness Charles deals with today. Martha was a school teacher for the Madison School District and since Dean’s departure from the Army in 2007 she retired to spend time with her son as he went through his own studies.

Dean married his high school sweetheart just as he departed for Basic Training in 2003 pregnant with their first child. This however would later cripple his personal life as she cheated and left him during his second deployment. The divorce was quick but messy, Dean was hoping to have more visitation with his son Drew; however, the sporadic deployments and his Ex-Wife moving to Arizona prevented many birthdays, holidays, and baseball games. Drew nonetheless loved his father and Dean loved his son. Taking him to experience new things together when they could spend time together. Dean always kept a recent picture on his person, be it gear, or wallet. That is until he started working with The Agency. He wanted to keep his family (son) safe. Just a few months after graduating high school Drew approached his dad excitedly to announce he was joining the US Airforce. Dean was proud and scared of that fact. A young man with his whole life in front of him, and he’s choosing to do what he is doing.

Dean started in the US Army as a Human Intelligence Collector going to the Defense Language Institute to learn Arabic. He spent two tours over four years with the US Army 502nd Military Intelligence Battalion fighting and sourcing Human Intel. He was present during ambushes, roadside IEDs, and one camel spider occupying the only porta pot in miles. The work and the suck nearly drove him mad. The thought of seeing his family kept him going, he, unfortunately, lost friends during the war, and failed to help extract critical information that lead to their deaths. This started the social isolation and withdrawal leading to a cheating spouse. Dean did eventually open up socially during college.

After he departed the military he devoted the next several years getting a college education, using every waking moment he could to study and stay in shape. He chose to get a minor in Russian as he saw the writing on the wall, from the Russian aggression in the Russo-Georgian War. He pondered this with the rising influence of China on the economic stage.

During his undergrad and later masters program, Dean applied and was selected to participate in CIA internships doing mostly scut work but learning more about the world beyond the consumer’s eyes. Dean continued to grow his language skills and learn more about the world.

After the completion of his degrees he applied and was accepted to the CIA as an Operations Officer spotting, assessing, developing, recruiting, and handling individuals with access to vital foreign intelligence. He participated in the following missions Combined Joint Task Force – Operation Inherent Resolve (Oct. 2014 – Jan. 2020) and was then transferred to D.C. for a desk assignment. He was assigned as an analyst to the Office of Transnational Issues tasked with the expertise to assess perceived existing and emerging threats to US national security and provide senior policymakers, military planners, and law enforcement with analysis, warning, and crisis support (Jan. 2020 – March 20222). Once the intelligence world was kicked the idea of a Russian invasion of Ukraine Dean applied for a transfer as a Collection Management Officer (March 2021 – May 2022). This allowed him to oversee and facilitate the collection, evaluation, classification, and dissemination of foreign intelligence developed from clandestine sources.

Past RP Examples: Please tell me the backstory suffices as the example and the 12 years I've been here lol

Personality:

Having spent sixteen years working within the United States military, a significant amount of that time spent within counterintelligence operating within Human Exploitation Teams before their shift into special operations, Smeshnaya has on more than one occasion in a derogatory fashion been referred to as a “Human can opener.” by her colleagues in special operations.

She is highly intuitive with clear mental flexibility and fosters a deeply collected attitude, being detail orientated person who is particularly observant, and has a clear talent for fostering relationships and reading people, this is often paired off with her high perseverance, and like a lot of people in her field, she is completely relentless in the pursuit of her goals even through sheer punishment, being able to keep a lid on her emotions through complex situations through suppression, mental autopilot and a healthy dose of black humour.

As a result of these factors, Smeshnaya is very difficult to lie around, and when one sparks her interest, they often fall victim to calculated questions and cross-examination of statements designed to expose falsities almost out of an inherent curiosity. On the other side of the coin, Smeshnaya is a highly skilled liar who has an entire playbook at their disposal to cover for their own problems. This combined with her focus on their military career following deep-seated emotional damage over a long series of events in Iraq has cost two long-term relationships and is coming close to destroying the third.

While home life is a struggle, within the team's environment, she holds a confident and affectionate, if a little quiet, personality with most members of their unit, knowing how to make people feel valued, with her being known to occasionally engage in quick-witted back and forth banter and is prone to occasional sarcastic comments towards their fellow soldiers and operations. She cares deeply for those who she trains with and often grows very close to them, being ready to go to the mat for most she serves with, often seeing them as something akin to family. That being said, she does have a very low tolerance for those who cannot keep up the tempo during operations.

Biography:

Hailing from a working-class family of Belarusian-Russian Immigrants, she was born in New York City in 1988 a few years before the soviet unions collapsed. Her family was some of the first waves to immigrate west into Brighton Beach, aka “Little Odesa'' following the post-1970s influx of Ashkenazi Jews from Russia and Ukraine. Her youth was spent mainly in the southern portion of the borough and her early lifestyle was defined by her attachment to the eastern bloc migrant community. She learned how to speak Russian before English, and because her family constantly working, she spent a lot of time around extended family within the area.

Smeshnaya was thirteen years old when the attacks of 9/11 occurred. She, like many in the community, witnessed the events and the aftermath of the collapse throughout the day as the city went into lockdown. Her witnessing the events first-hand, and the subsequent war on terror which grew throughout her late teenage years proved to be a powerful motivator for her. At eighteen with little employment prospects within Brighton Beach and a good academic profile but not enough money to afford a conventional university placement without scholarships, she elected to join the military out of a mixture of patriotic duty and hopes of attending university following the completion of her contract.

She signed on with the US army in 2006, and upon completion of MEPs and the ASVAB, she elected to pursue 35L MOS, with Smeshnaya being convinced by a recruiter when she claimed she wanted an active role and an interesting challenge. She entered the early year cycle, receiving BCT at Fort Jackson, South Carolina before transferring to Defence Language Institute Foreign Language Centre to study Arabic, finally attending AIT in Fort Huachuca, Arizona.

During her time as a counterintelligence agent, Smeshnaya saw heavy rotations primarily as eight-man Intelligence exploitation teams and as an attaché to infantry units conducting HUMINT source operations. Throughout the eight-year period, she first made her bones in Iraq during the late period of the US initial involvement in the country. Working in Baghdad and Mosul during the peak Iraqi sectarian civil war. She primarily found herself working with informants who had information against ISI/AQI networks operating within the city. While most of the job was writing reports, verifying intelligence, and dealing with walk-ins claiming to have information, occasionally Smeshnaya was required to work alone without support, often only with an interpreter, when meeting with informants to build trust.

Her CIs were often being disgruntled members of militia groups or their family members, Smeshnaya found it to be an uphill battle to effectively build trust and eventually network with these assets, her skills developing rapidly in the fast-paced environment involving cross operations with different branches, units, and nationalities. Smeshnaya had her first experiences with JSOC during this period, with her often having to pass over her sources for cross-examination and PID, typically to Green Berets and SEALs, occasionally even accompanying them on their raids with their source. Smeshnaya quickly earned a reputation for a high level of determination and tenacity, something which both worked in her favour and hindered her.

With the end of the US drawdown in Iraq in 2011, Smeshnaya's deployments began to switch towards Afghanistan, during which she served a single deployment in 2012 attached to 10th Mountain during their deployment in the central part of the country during their mission against the Haqqani Network. The change in culture from Iraq found her taking on a new role, one which Smeshnaya had to quickly adapt to, often rolling out with the units on patrol to interact with women and children where men were largely unable in Afghan culture, to grow trust and open an avenue of intelligence normally closed.

Following her promotion to sergeant, Smeshnaya along with a small pool of agents was afforded the ability to conduct a deployment as a counterintelligence attaché to US Army Special Forces. Smeshnaya attended jump school, and later ranger school as part of the requirements for the attachment. Smeshnaya found the sixty-two-day course proved to be an extreme challenge, with the swamp phase proving to be difficult for her, most notably almost drowning during one of the small boat movements. She earned her tab following graduation, and by the start of the next year, she found herself attached to an ODB within the 5th SFG(A).

As part of an attaché to the 5th SFG(A), Smeshnaya was deployed into Iraq again in the fight against the Islamic State, arriving not long after Mosul's capture in June. Her group worked closely with Iraqi security forces throughout the year as the Islamic state continued to gain ground throughout the complex conflict. Her team was almost constantly on the move, and Smeshnaya spent much of this conducting counterintelligence and liaison activities, her previous experience proved valuable to the teams as she found herself frequently consulting with old contacts that she had cultivated years before on behalf of the team to collect vital intelligence, occasionally having that broken up by source operations and intelligence investigations alongside ODA teams.

This deployment however proved to be a pivotal and emotionally damaging point in Smeshnaya's life, with her witnessing a lot of Islamic States' horrific activities, some even first-hand, within a country she had grown to care about deeply. The sharpest blows came from the loss of contacts whom she had grown to consider friends while working with throughout the late noughties. While she had initially wanted to go civilian and focus on further education, this proved to be the main motivating factor in her continued service following the end of her attachment, having difficulty dealing with the feeling that everything she had done throughout her early twenties seemed to be falling apart in real-time, something which would be a major factor is the dissolution of her first marriage.

In 2015, Smeshnaya, angry and wanting a more direct role in the fray and having seen how the United States Special Forces worked in the field first-hand, pushed for a slot. Following the completion of selection, Smeshnaya spent fifty-eight weeks within the Q course, being hit with whiplash from the change of pace, passing through by the skin of her teeth and pure determination as she moved through the phases, learning Persian during the language and culture phase, and training as a weapons sergeant during the MOS phase, earning her green beret following the completion of Robin Sage exercise. Despite requesting a slot within 5th SFG(A) on the wish list, Smeshnaya found herself within 10th SFG (A), something with gave initial disappointment before their deployments began.

Smeshnaya made her bones in Iraq yet again as she saw her first active deployment as a combatant with the 10th SFG as part of CJTF–OIR. First deploying in late September 2016, her ODA advised and coordinated coalition assets for the Peshmerga forces during Operation "We Are Coming, Nineveh." accompanying them during their advance from the east, battling through the towns and villages held by the Islamic state as they fought their way into Mosul, her ODA participating in the block by block alongside their allies as they fought to clear them out, the ODA even successfully capturing some local Islamic state commanders during an assault on a compound within the city. This proved to be one of the more meaningful deployments to Smeshnaya, something which helped her overcome a feeling of hopelessness derived from her time as an attaché in 2014. Her unit was cycled out following the capture of eventual capture of east Mosul in 2017, being sent home for further training at Fort Carson.

The following deployments over the two years proved to be much less intense, conducting training operations in Ukraine with Ukrainian Spetznaz, and later joint training operations with other NATO special forces units in Norway, her last deployment with the green berets before her rotation into Delta being a stint as an advisor to Kenyan, Somali and Ugandan forces in their fight against Ai-Shabaab militants in Somalia.

With members of their ODA attempting to join 1st SFOD-D in 2020 during a recruitment drive, Smeshnaya submitted an application for the unit with a desire to push herself further, being selected to progress onto OTC alongside six others during the early year intake. She learned various new skills through the six training blocks such as demolitions, breaching, executive protection, and tradecraft, something Smeshnaya had a leg up on from her experience as a counterintelligence agent. Upon completion, she was assigned to E Squadron within a reconnaissance troop, working within a black squadron.

In late 2020 she participated in a deployment to Mexico under Operation Harlequin, an operation to capture a key money launderer within the Sinaloa cartel and extradite them to the United States following the cartel assault which resulted in the release of Joaquin Guzman. Their troop assisted in his capture, attacking him in transit, and 1st SFOD later escorted him across the border with the assistance of US marshals.

Smeshnya additionally found herself working closely with the united states intelligence apparatus, notably the CIA in Iraq and Afghanistan and later the DIA in Ukraine in 2022. In 2021 she found herself working down a kill list of key members of the Islamic States' command structure, providing intelligence to SAC/SOG for air strikes, and occasionally getting their own hands dirty when those strikes were impossible. In Afghanistan during the fall of Kabul, she participated in the evacuation of personnel employed by the company first, and then later those Afghans who were deemed valuable enough to extract. The deployment fostered resentment towards the company, particularly in how they handled the evacuation, partly due to the feeling the same as how they did in 2014 in Iraq.

Their last deployment Before being tasked to Task Force Gungnir was in Ukraine in May 2022, Smeshnya worked closely with DIA elements to conduct a buy-back operation within Ukrainian lines, exchanging deniable equipment for captured Russian equipment such as anti-aircraft missiles and their radar systems.

Upon completion, she was assigned to E Squadron within a direct action troop.

TASK FORCE GUNGNIR MILITARY PERSONNEL FILE CONFIDENTIAL - DESTROY UPON COMPROMISE
"Task Force Gungnir" is a Top Secret Military Organization of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.

Basic Information
Name: Michelle "Ifrit" Powell
Appearance: 6' 2", 165 lbs. lean
Image

Gender: Female
Date of Birth: 02/21/88
Nationality: American Citizen
Place of Birth: Hell, Michigan
Strengths:
Tip of the Spear - Michelle does what she does very well, and with most anything at her disposal. She doesn't gloat or lick her lips. She does what she needs to do and that's that. She's learned how to take on targets with whatever she has at hand, and will render her foes incapable of having a heartbeat with her bare hands if required.

Cool Head - Panic doesn't exist in Michelle's vocabulary. Her demeanor has remained the same in and out of combat and her smile has rarely left her face if at all in the presence of her teammates. She has never faltered under fire and tackles the challenge of an engagement with all the enthusiasm of working a day job.

Mama Bear - No one gets to mess with her team. No one. Michelle knows that the team is the whole of its moving parts, and as a former 12 Bravo, she's highly experienced in "tactically acquiring" gear to suit the team's needs. "Tactically acquiring" meaning its full acronym: Strategically Transferring Equipment to Alternative Locations.

Weaknesses:
Cold-Blooded - Michelle doesn't hold a lot of care in regards to the life of the enemy, and toes the line in wording more often than not. While not a war criminal, she has been noted to be rather "extreme" in her application of force at points during missions. Her teammates have seldom voiced their disapproval of her methods but not through official reports.

Sounds Like a "You" Problem - Michelle has been around the block more times than most. If you don't know what to do at this point, she won't tell you. She'll keep letting you make the same mistakes until it starts to interfere with the mission, but she'll never tell you just how or why you're wrong.

Original Prankster - While almost motherly at times, Michelle can also be a bit of a wild card while on base. She gets her kicks by testing her teammates with harmless fun if she gets an opportunity. While not one to take things too far, she has been noted to be a bit of a pain in the ass by the more strict personnel she's worked with. She doesn't care, though.

Additional Information
Likes: Nah
Dislikes: Also nah
Fears: Drowning
Personality: Ms. Powell has a rather colorful personality. Her smile, ever present, rarely seems to convey happiness or joy. Rather, the "Cheshire" nature seems to convey a woman who may know a lot more than she lets on, but isn't willing to say just what. She has a rather care-free and laid-back attitude, even during engagements. Rarely has she ever been anything considered angry. Her colleagues in "The Unit" (that's the Delta Force unit) know her to be oddly celibate for a woman of her stature.

Immediate Family: Parents. Single - unmarried with no children.
Biography: Ms. Powell hails from the Great Lakes State in the rural area just outside of Hell. School records and other findings such as employment histories and the like had all pointed to her being a studious student but is noted to be a very mischievous soldier in the Army. Her time in the 101st as a Combat Engineer taught her a lot about proper use of explosives to dismantle enemy equipment, regardless of how big or small it was. Her uncommonly large stature also made her more notably stand out among her squad. Her smile was present whenever she was on duty, as if she had no care in the world. Later in her service, she applied to be part of the 75th Ranger Regiment. Her success in the 75th Rangers also carried into being selected for the 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment - Delta and started getting her into the real Secret Squirrel angle.

After getting out of Fort Bragg she put a lot of what she learned to good use in the Middle East. The Daesh (ISIS) and other cells were her primary target, and after getting let off the bureaucratic leash by SOCOM, she and other SOF units were sent in to do a Joint COIN campaign against them. From late 2014 to 2021, she and her team performed countless missions and regularly exceeded expectations in mission parameters. Powell served in the Unit until being later poached for the newly reformed Task Force Gungnir under NATO as a multi-national unit, to help use her skills to better apply them in a broader theater spectrum instead of just the Middle East. Her time spent there is somewhat legendary, as she earned the nickname "Shaytana" by local friendly fighters she worked with in COIN ops against the Daesh, as well as her nickname later adopted by her teammates: "Ifrit".
