Background: Turanda, a recently established monarchy, two years ago welcomed the arrival of its first monarch. Selecting a scion from the illustrious Valwa Dynasty of Royal Genes in the form of Lady Josephine de Valwa she ascended the throne, taking the regnal name as Queen Oiyora of Turanda. Since then she has set to work crafting the new monarchical regime with the aid of her ministers. However all agree on one persistent matter, the marriage of their young monarch. With her being unmarried and thus childless and heir less, the question of succession, even now is under consideration. Having just turned nineteen, Queen Oiyora has not hidden her amorous nature, or casual flings, but convinced of the importance of securing the succession has finally agreed to begin the search for a consort to serve as the father of her dynasty.

Her Majesty, Oiyora, Queen of Turanda has reached the age of consideration of marriage. Coming herself from two long lines of royalty, a descendant of the Princes of Gante from her mother, and the Genoise Kings and Queens from her father, and having received a realm of her own at the age of 17, she now wishes to select for her consort a man of royal pedigree. No restrictions are placed on the candidates to be reviewed by the Queen save that he must be a legitimate dynast man of age, at least 18, and no older than 40 years of age. Her Majesty is a woman of an amorous heart and great strength of will. This is a marriage of not simply individuals, but a matter of state, and shall be considered as such. As her cousin, the King of Narumada has seen fit to take multiple wives, Her Majesty too sees it with in her right to be open to possibly taking multiple consorts, if there prove multiple viable candidates.

Her Majesty herself has blossomed into a lovely young woman, tall, with light brown skin, dark brown eyes, and thick curly black hair, traits coming from both her Deritain de Mauleart mother and Genoise Valwa father.

It is with great humility and hope for the future of the nation, the dynasty and monarchy as a whole that we set out on this search. The application for marriage candidacy shall be attacked below.

It is with great enthusiasm that I have received word on Her Majesty’s interest. I hope I can tour your great nation. She is also invited to visit Coastal Lazio. The Casarella family comes with a long history of Royalty going back to the early days of the Mediterranean Renaissance. It a a story of music and art and politics. War and love. Fame and famine.

Through it all, our small kingdom was forged. I understand the story of your nation’s Throne is just blooming. What better way to build than to connect with a family like the House of Casarella. However, when asked, he was effusive in saying, "Even though polygamy is legal, both in Lisander and Vernant, I would not feel comfortable sharing attention and duties with another person, and I would not feel comfortable having two people do it. I understand the importance of politics and politicians in the concert of nations, but I do not consider it necessary to create for your Vernantian counterpart an intermediary position. I shall therefore deal with my letters myself. I think it is still a little too intrusive of Your Excellency to question reasons for my intimacy. If this question had come directly from Her Majesty, I would have answered it more honestly. However, far be it from me to want her to answer in her own hand something so brief and disinterested

However, so as not to make Her Majesty more curious than she perhaps is about my shunning any kind of romance, let her know that I am aware of my role as a member of a reigning house, and I believe it would not be good manners to enter into such relationships with less than laudable intentions. I would not choose a girlfriend, boyfriend or any other kind of serious relationship without considering the future. I have currently been devoting myself to my duties in the Vernant Navy, and limiting my relationships. It would not be in good taste for the Consort candidate to father a line of bastards. I would not, and should it occur, by some surprise of fate between the time of writing and Her Majesty's decision, I would immediately withdraw my candidacy to follow the correct procedures of parenthood.

If not planning to beget bastards, I reiterate that I am not a man who accepts them either. Regarding my appearance, I feel delighted that she was able to consider some kind of appeal in me. People often say that I am the least manly among my brother and myself. They will say, in general, that I inherited the genes from my mother. and this slightly slimmer look seems to make me popular with the young ladies of Vernant. Although Prince Casarella spoke a certain kind of way among his associates, he was truly an articulate and well spoken person. The life of Lazio royalty was likely dissimilar to many other Royal families. For example, they did not simply inherit high rank in the military. They had to start as junior officers and gain experience. Although they inherited great fortunes, they still had to ‘earn their bread’. When combining the life of a soldier with all manner of organized businesses, true warriors were formed. Lazio Royals were hunters of fortune.

They also knew how to love and live with a zest for life itself. They knew of their own limitations placed onto them by the rules of nature and life itself. Therefore they cared little for the judgements of others. However such judgement was entertaining.

The Royal invitation is most appreciated. I must make my arrival before one of these dreadful bores calling themselves ‘suitors’ tries to gamesmanship their way into Queen Oiyora’s heart. The Ahamigaba, Turanda

Queen Oiyora consider the choice of fabrics layed out before her in the state room of the Ahamigaba as Prime Minister Orjea read out the various correspondences that had been sent to her concerning the ongoing search for a husband for her. The sheets of white cotton were from two distinct regions of the country, and it was up to her to select which would receive an official commission from the crown for the next year. It was one of countless of the more traditional duties given to the monarch. She fondled the fabric from the south as Orjea finished with Lord Leopold’s letter.

“Poor little Leopold,” the Queen said rubbing the fabric between her forefinger and thumb, it was thin and light, “He is so handsome, but, my god he sounds like a little puppy. If I brought him here, I’d be afraid he’d piss on the floor.” She let go of the fabric and turned her attention to the cotton from the northwest. “I have no desire to kick a puppy. You do it for me Orjea.”

Prime Minister Orjea bit her lip and nodded her head. “Of course ma’am.” She then cleared her throat. “As for the others?”

Oiyora swished her lips and rubbed the northwestern cotton sheet. It was much fluffier and thicker. She ran her palm over it as she considered the words of the other men who had written to her. She sighed and rolled her eyes, waving her free hand in an exaggerated display of defeat. “I suppose cousin Teddy is right. The idea of polygamy has clear not fallen upon popular opinion. The suitors who do support it do so begrudgingly.” She gave an exaggerated sigh. “And here I was so looking forward to a harem of my own.”

Prime Minister Orjea tilted her head in a stifled shrug. “At the rate of things such a course was likely to end in bloodshed, though if from the people rioting or the suitors fighting amongst each other, well, best we not ever find out.”

Oiyora tapped the fabric from the south. “This one. It’ll do better under the sun. I want Ahamigaba to be a garden of glamorous courtiers, not sweltering sycophants.”

“Of course ma’am.”

Oiyora swished the skirts of her dress, pacing the state room while the prime minister stood still watching her. Oiyora had designed the state room, or more accurately she had had her interior decorator design the state room to resemble that of her distant ancestor Queen Adela of Genes with Turandan aesthetics. It was ornate, with geometric patterned floors and ceiling in the emerald and gold of the House of Valwa. There was a singular chair meant for herself as Queen, a table for official documents, another with a large map of the kingdom, so that her prime minister could bring to her the important matters of the day. The young Queen had not been proclaimed with her skill at administration in mind, but she had proven far more involved and indomitable in her rule over the last two years than any could have predicted. Orjea, her friend and mentor, for she had been the one to push for Oiyora taking the throne even before she herself had risen to the premiership, was proud of the Queen she was becoming. And also annoyed at times the lack of control she had over the monarch.

“As for the others,” continued the Queen, “Graciliano I quite like.” She grinned at the thought of the words Orjea had read out loud to her. He was certainly the most the most articulate and charming of the candidates. And his good looks only helped in that regard. She had considered simply picking the most handsome of the suitors, but she was smart enough to know that pretty packaging wasn’t everything. Oh but how it helped. His confidence was intoxicating without being overbearing. “I want to know the moment that he arrives. And I want him brought straight to Ahamigaba. I look forward to… how did he put it? Sampling wine from the grapes of Lazio.”

“And Prince Mitchell?”

Oiyora’s smile faltered slightly as she went over the the table where the prime minister had set down the tiara sent to her by the prince. It was grand, if a bit gaudy. His Highness had seemed determined to fit in every type of gem and jewel he could find into one headpiece. It wasn’t exactly her style, but like any member of the Valwa dynasty she admired the emeralds. She turned the tiara over and over in her hands. “A rich husband will do both the Crown and the country wonders. I know you of all people know the great expenses of trying to build a modern nation. Outside of the capital one would think we’re living in the 1700’s.”

Orjea nodded. The tyrannical Obasey Regime that preceded Oiyora’s reign had seen the nation greatly neglect all aside from the military. Even years since Obasey had been overthrown, the scars remained, particularly in the Northern Territories. An influx of fortune would go a long way for the kingdom. Not that the Valwa were without their own vast fortune. Their pockets were deep and amongst some of the wealthiest royal houses. But it’s accounts were controlled by the Genoise branch of the family, and Oiyora’s aunt hoarded it like a dragon.

“And as for Valerian,” Oiyora said, anticipating Orjea’s next words. She set down the tiara. She put the back of her thumb to her bottom lip. “He intrigues me. Very matter of fact that one. And he’s not wrong, we would make such pretty children. Though this would be easier if they were all just breeding stallions,” Oiyora said with a laugh, her imagination running while. “I could line them up, ride each in turn and decide which one I like best, no?”

Orjea pressed her lips together. “Ma’am.”

“I know, I know,” Oiyora said. “I’m won’t do that. Well, not without them all agree first.”

“Ma’am”

Oiyora laughed and ignored the prime minister’s concerned tone. “Pen the following, and sign it from me this time.”
