Welcome to the IWU's In-Character Page! You may view the Out-of-Character Page here. There are many important aspects of the IWU that have not been explained, including how it works, what your nation's role in the IWU is, and how the world can be made a better place for workers.
The IWU will operate similarly to how all alliances do in the sense that all member nations are represented, all member nations have a single representative, and the alliance shall be governed by a singular representative selected by their fellow representatives. Each nation shall be represented by its current or a former Secretary of Labor (equivalent thereof). For example, Meretica does not have a Labor Department in the Cabinet. However, the closest equivalent to it is the Chairman of the Senate Nationalized Labor Committee (SNLC), Senator F. Jessica Dodd. As such, Senator Dodd represents Meretica in the IWU. When they first arrive on the premises of the IWU Center in Sicily, Meretica, IWU representatives are expected to make a statement about their beliefs regarding labor, what their goals are during their tenure, and how they believe labor situations can best be resolved. After two weeks have passed (July 19, 2022, IRL), then the IWU will elect its first Chairperson. After this, all elections will take place during the first three days of every month. A debate will take place prior to each election to assist IWU members in selecting a Chairperson.
Your nation is expected to allow the IWU to form unions in it. The IWU is a large union that is growing very quickly. As more workers join, more funds become available, all of which are then reinvested into the IWU's growth and prosperity. Your nation is expected to make this as easy as possible with the goal of creating a world in which workers have the best lives they possibly can.
How the world can be made a better place for workers is best summarized in a speech by Bernie Sanders, which can be viewed here. Senator Sanders is a real American politician that is known for his fight on behalf of unions, workers, and the labor movement. This speech is geared primarily toward corporate greed, which is but one small part of the greater fight for workers' rights.
