Pennsylvania Campaign
Part 3
ALLEGHENY Wednesday April 17th
The final leg of the PA campaign began in Allegheny County. In the areas surrounding Pittsburgh, Anderson spent multiple hours going from factory to factory, meeting blue and white collar works and emphasizing his support for steel and other heavy industry. Privately with union leaders he made it a point to say he supported unions and emphasized the threat of Conservatives to the progress made by unions and that he would support groups such as the RIDC. A later meeting with Congressman Not-Robert Corbett had him emphasize civil rights extensively and how they needed an AG that would enforce the civil rights bills of the past decade while developing the economy in minority areas. These were also talking points with Congressman Not-James G Fulton, though they moved on from there to discuss the space race and the importance of using the space race to encourage technological breakthroughs in the United States.
Anderson by this time had implemented a series of billboard advertisements across the state, particularly the more rural areas.
“Anderson for America: Prosperity, Stability, Security”
“Anderson for America: Winning the Peace in Vietnam”
“Anderson for America: Prosperity for All Americans”
The billboards included a phone number to call and receive more information on the candidate.
“People don’t want to live dependent on the Government. They want pride, self-respect and a real equal chance of success. As President I want to empower people to own their own homes, start their own businesses and have a real piece of our national prosperity.”
BEAVER Thursday April 18th
With the enigmatic Congressman Not-Herman T Schneebell, Glen held a meeting mostly listening to his concerns and waging a personality offensive, trying to charm the man. In the end he focused mainly on school integration and job creation both in PA and across the country. He began in a similar way with Congressman Not-John Saylor, but quickly transitioned to his support for clean air and clean water acts, as well as the need for a Republican Roosevelt caucus to champion environmentalism.
Otherwise his campaigning was HEAVILY focused on the suburbs, preaching law and order, massive grants and increases to police budgets and a federal force dedicated to taking on organized crime.
By this time the article written by Admiral Albert Burke had been reprinted in leaflet form and sent to every registered Republican in both Pennsylvania and Massachusetts. This was done with the assistance of the local Republican Party and its leadership providing extension voter rolls and mailing lists. In addition there was a new letter signed by 94 retired military generals and admirals, attacking General Jackson.
We Are Retired Generals, Admirals and Officers: General Jonathan Jackson is not fit to serve as Commander & Chief
Time and again, over the course of a career spanning decades we have seen (many of us personally) the unrestrained ego and authoritarian tendencies of General Jonathan Jackson cause abject failures on the battlefield, the foreign policy realm, and undermine the rule of law in this country.
General Jackson’s commitment and passion to this country are not to be underestimated, but he has constantly been blindsided by anything that lies outside his preset notions, and has proven more than willing to risk American lives to do nothing more than advance his career. From his failure to foresee the attack of the Communist Chinese in Korea, to his advocacy for nuclear war against them, which included attempting to place American men in harms way to spark a war, and now to sending armed thugs to intimidate voters and circumvent the American process, General Jackson has shown definitely that he serves only his own self interest, and not the interest of the American people.
We, as 94 retired officers in the United States military, are of the opinion that when General Jackson has a choice between his own personal interests and that of the Constitution or the American people that he will pick his own every time. When given the choice between peace and war, he will choose a war in order to gain glory and prestige. Making all this worse is the fact in order to do this he will wrap himself in the American flag to justify it all.
The events of the New Hampshire primary, when individuals hired by the Jackson campaign prevented thousands of people from exercising their constitutional duty is clear evidence of the utter lack of regard for the Constitution and the general rule of law which General Jackson holds. He will be incapable of bringing Law & Order to our streets when he believes himself to be above the law. He will be incapable of bringing
General Washington refused to be a king, given the opportunity General Jackson would not decline.
Signed,
(Names of 94 retired military officers)
