Hello and welcome to the Winter Commonality.

The Winter Commonality is an alliance of nations dedicated to the preservation of national sovereignty, the advancement of multifaceted international cooperation and the empowerment of individual nations in a dangerous world of multi-million armies, economic hegemons and tyrants of demonic charisma. The Winter Commonality has not merely been founded as a defensive organisation, but as a vanguard against the spawn of Summer, and whose members shall dedicate themselves to the protection of one another from said fiends and act to preserve, and carve out, bastions of sanity and security in this world.

The Winter Commonality is an alliance where all members are equal to one another and shall treat one another as siblings in arms. If you deem yourself a Brother or Sister in Winter and not a Summeragent, then the Winter Commonality opens its gates to you and welcomes you into its hearth.

CLARIFICATIONS

I) What is the Winter Commonality?

It is an alliance of individuals who wish to enjoy more thorough and deep roleplay and as a common centre for such individuals as well as those wishing to become more experienced and thorough roleplayers.

II) How do I join?

Currently, the Winter Commonality only requires that you join the Discord server and pass the vetting process, undertaken by an existing member, and that another member advocate on your behalf. No advocate, no joining. Simple as that.

III) What nations can join?

The Winter Commonality, though centred and focused on Modern Tech level nations and roleplay, is open to nations of all tech classifications and even non-human nations. However, hyperpowers and hegemonies are generally discouraged.

MISSION STATEMENTS

1) Safeguard and preserve national sovereignty and independence of member-states from overarching and overbearing international treaties, organisations and hegemonic powers; support and assist any member-state in any conflict with another power, especially if said power is larger or otherwise stronger than the member-state; protest on behalf of and support the national sovereignty and independence of unaffiliated states and actively assist any unaffiliated state whose national sovereignty and independence are threatened
2) individually empower member-states through trade, mutual investment, technology and equipment trade and joint economic, political and military planning
3) welcome and support young nations in developing their economies, political climates, military planning and organisation, and more; the Spawn of Summer are to be welcomed if they prove willing to receive aid and education
4) combat the forces of Summer, restore balance of power, demolish hubris

MEMBERSHIP

The Winter Commonality is a siblinghood united against the forces of a cosmic evil and dedicated to protecting one another from the agents of said cosmic evil as well as eradicating its influence wherever possible. If you wish to join this mission, then become a member-state of the Winter Commonality and gather around the great hearth of wisdom and brotherhood with us.

The Winter Commonality is currently in its infancy and is accepting its first official members. To join the Winter Commonality, one must do three things:
One) join the Discord server, be vetted by another member and receive an advocation from an existing member two) submit a forumside application, the template of which will be included below three) state the swear included in the Common Charter with your forumside application and in the Discord server general channel.

[Walnajamu]

WINTER COMMONALITY MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION

Nation:

The Stargazers, Immortal Republic of / Walnajamu (Natively)

Government type:

Parlimentary Democracy with a Prime Minister known as a "Raisa Milele", who is both head of state and head of government. It's legislature is known as the Umajais ("National Council") with an elected lower house and an upper house of Priests chosen by Sortation.

Economic model:

Walnajamu is mostly command, but not officially socialist, and uses the Dirham as its national currency (7 Dirham = 1 Dollar). It has a GDP of 497.725 billion OTL USD and has a per capita of 21,251 OTL USD. This makes it roughly similar to Saudi Arabia, albeit with less (but still notable) income inequality.

Society

Walnajamu is populated by its namesake - the Walnajamu, who speak Kinajamu and are predominantly Sunni Muslims.

Military

Walnajamu has an active military force of 53,150. Its doctrine is (... admittedly something I need to think about, but is likely focused on naval warfare).

Reason to join the Winter Commonality

Walnajamu does not wish to join as a full member but has some interest in pursuing relations with its member-states. Walnajamu wishes for the position of observer for the time being.

Since Walnajamu is not applying for a full membership yet, it will not swear such an oath. The government of Walnajamu also finds the grammatical quirk of "I" to be odd in an official document referring to an entire nation/state.

Heavy elements of government intervention without spilling outright into socialism. "Heavily regulated capitalism" or "social corporatism" might be an apt label.

Large and well-funded through the armed forces of the various member-nations. Though the Telsian Union prefers peaceful negotiation and multilateral action through international bodies, it has recognized that such endeavors are most successful when undertaken with firepower behind one's position.

Government type:

Unitary dominant-party parliamentary republic under a semi-direct E-democracy.

Economic model:

Market socialism - State planned economy with computer/AI assistance and worker or government owned enterprises. Their currency - Flatcent (F€) - is a purely digital, either as crypto or credit. As of July 2022, a F€1.00 equals N$5.00, and the country’s GDP is F€523,000,000,000.

Society

Whereas economic freedom is minimal, political and civil rights are burgeoning and numerous. People have the right of speech, assembly, association, petition, protest, religion, movement, and so much more. In fact, Flatwoodlands digitalised the bureaucracy, voting procedures, and much of the government, save for parliament, the prime minister (including the cabinet), president, and Supreme Court. Most notably, LGBTQ+ and multicultural communities are not only embraced, but legally protected and encouraged. All of these features hark back to the Combine era, where the regional Resistance cells sought to break their occupational shackles with craftiness, ingenuity, and self-reliance. It was through these pioneers and artisans, combined with the capture of numerous Combine industrial-manufacturing infrastructure, that the country saw its rapid creation, foundation, and rise to power, both in the region and the world.

Military

With a budget of F€7,968,000,000 (N$39,840,000,000; July 2022), the Flatwood Armed Forces is a modestly sized military with 200,000 active personnel and 10,000 reservists. It is divided into three branches: Flatwoodlands Liberation Army, Flatwoodlands Liberation Navy, and Flatwoodlands Aerospace Service. The FAF primarily employs jointness, information warfare, and economy of force to ensure the security and stability of the country’s sovereignty.

As a survivor of an alien invasion and occupation (2001-2029), Flatwoodlands seeks to assist and/or protect other nations, whether they were also victims of alien invasion and/or occupation. Flatwoodlands is also at the forefront of cosmic anomalies and investigations - strange and unexplained occurrences and entities have skyrocketed during and after the Combine era.

Economic model: The Empire of Greater Nifon maintains a free market economic model, with dominance of large corporations known as zaibatsu.
Society: The Empire of Greater Nifon could be classified as a neo-feudal society, where the dominant role is played by a caste of the party bureucrats coresponding to the Confucian scholars. Below them is the business class, and below them is the "third estate" composed of middle class, which also forms backbone of the party. The remaining class is composed of workers.

Nifon is ethnically homogenous, with 97% of it's population being Nifonese, with largest minorities being the Emishi (1%). The Eta, albeit not a different ethnicity, are also recognised as a separate group.

Dominant religion are various forms of Kogyokist Christianity, with the Church of Nifon being largest denomination (65% of the population). Buddhism and Mikoism are largest minority religions.

Government type: Roman-based Imperial Monarchy, We have a Quadcamerial Legislute, the Senate, Imperial Assembly, Imperial Parliament, and Principate Assembly, The current Ruler is Imperial Princess Julia Ivislla Aestiva who as semi absolute power. We also have a Proconsul, a President/ Consul, and Prime Minister.

Economic model: Capitalism with a touch of liberal/ socialist regulation, the currency is the Iris, and our current GDP is 74 Trillion NSD, in strength and Prosperity were most similar to the USA, UAE, Singapore, with a touch of EU.

Society Populated by many ethnic groups from East Africa to the Mediterranian, north Africa, the middle east, Oceania, East Asia, and India.

Military Gargantuan (Large), Well funded 2nd most funded government expenditure, 7 million personnel total with 2 million active. Our focus is mostly in Land and naval warfare but the IRAF has a total of 9 branches with the ITAF (Army) being the most funded and the ICG (Coast Guard) being the least funded. Our Doctrine has a focus on conventional warfare but the military does have multiple branches dedicated to silent warfare such as the cyber security force and the space force. The Military also works closely with our Intelligence and Enforcement Agencies, ASP, ACIA, IRIS, IBIS, ASA, IPSA, and collectively the IRAF and IA's (Intelligence Agencies) have a large and sophisticated intelligence and silent warfare network codenamed DELPHI. Our strategy is a mix of Silent and conventional warfare to achieve our political, military, and tactical goals.

Reason to join the Winter Commonality To expand diplomatic relations and be a part of newer and infant organizations to be a key part of global politics, and yes we intend to cooperate with member nations.

[The Republic of Parador]

WINTER COMMONALITY MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION

Nation: Republic of Parador

Government type: Multi-party presidential republic in theory, but Parador has been exclusively ruled by the People’s Socialist Party which has held power for several years.

Economic model: State-planned command economy in which government has control over economic decisions and corporations. For instance, the manufacturing, armaments, energy, and food production sectors are fully under state control through state-owned corporations. The currency of Parador is the parado.

(OOC note: Parador's economic state is similar to that of Venezuela)

Society Parador is mostly an ethnically homogenous nation, with most of its population being mestizos of mixed European and Amerindian ancestry. As Parador is a socialist state all citizens are treated equally in accordance with the constitution, however, it can be noticed that there are three classes: the ruling political class, part of the People's Socialist Party, the middle class, and the lower class.

Military The Paradorian Armed Forces has a total manpower of around 350,460 personnel from the different branches of the military: Army, Air Force, Navy, and paramilitary National Guard. In addition, Parador maintains a National Militia comprised of citizens from all walks of life which can be called upon in times of conflict and necessity. The Paradorian military is primarily geared towards fighting a defensive war, due to the threat of larger neighboring countries that seek to encroach on its soil through both conventional and unconventional means, an example being the border conflict with Langenia for control of the Avalon Valley. Moreover, it also maintains counterinsurgency units because of insurgencies being conducted by drug gangs and attacks by counterrevolutionary subversive guerilla elements.

Reason to join the Winter Commonality The Republic of Parador wishes to join the Winter Commonality alliance in order to form relations with like-minded countries in protecting itself from the threat of belligerent nations that are increasingly asserting themselves on the world stage. Moreover, Parador wants to form economic ties to improve the economic state the Republic currently finds itself in.

WINTER COMMONALITY MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION

Ezhara, Nation of Ezhara

Government type:

Ezhara is a highly-decentralized state, consisting of sixteen zones, each with a major culture associated with them, ranging from the native empires to former colonies that have long since declared their independence from their homelands. Each city is in turn ruled by a Minister, responsible for day-to-day management of the city, and a Mascot, a head of state whose cultural or intellectual prowess is used to extol the city's presence. These two roles are in turn managed by an advisory council — which, due to recent political pressure from an empire in Ezhara's region, has transitioned to a democratically-elected role when council members die or retire — and these councils are in turn responsible for approving the next Minister or Mascot, as chosen by the person within that role. When needed, Ministers and Mascots meet in the capital city of Woroshire to discuss issues that concern the whole nation, although some cities still maintain such strong ties to their home empire that one ought to wonder where their allegiance lies.

Economic model:

The Ezharan currency is the Anzhem. While most companies are privately-owned, there is a significant socio-political pressure towards company owners to give back to the people, leading to significant legislation that limits the growth of Ezharan companies in favor of ensuring fair practice and minimal issue. Likewise, many major services and utilities, such as Ezhara's railroads, are state-owned, and although Skywright Idolatry is not an essential service, its unique position in the training of Ezharan Idols has led to it being a state-managed company, anyway.

Society

Owing to its colonial past and disparate founding countries, Ezhara's culture is generally impossible to summarize, but the main continuity in all of its cities are strong communal bonds, which has been a long-running tradition due to the difficulty of surviving in Ezhara's tropical and resource-mediocre but resource-diverse environment, which meant that most colonization efforts had minimal attention and furthermore led to a culture that prided itself on creating its own happiness. Likewise, education has remained one of Ezhara's key interests, which led to the formation of the Talents system, a national-scale education project for talented youths, with the most notable among them receiving the title of Talents; while many Talents are not, by any means, able to create substantial impact as minors, most do go on to notable projects as adults.

Military

Owing largely to its protections or at least interests from colonial empires enduring even today, in tandem with an ambivalent population, Ezhara's military is significantly lacking. While not completely defenseless, the nation's defense is a secondary priority, owing in part to the significant question of why, even, would Ezhara be worth conquering or intimidating since it doesn't supply anything particularly significant in great quantities to the world market, whereas any of its supposed cultural prowess is largely for itself.

Ezhara is largely interested in expanding its cultural interests and knowledge, and possibly offering the services of IOEP — the International Organization for Education and Preservation — for the purpose of immortalizing the group's traditions, heritages, and cultural sites.
