International LGBT+ Rights Index
Greetings to all nations of the world. The Drongonian Government, partnered with several NGOs and private research institutes, has compiled a questionnaire which seeks to establish the rights and freedoms afforded to people of gender, sexual, and romantic minority by a nation's Government and society within any given country. We invite all heads of state (or their representatives) to take part in the survey and provide both us and the rest of the world with valuable feedback regarding who we should trade, ally and have diplomatic relations with. The International LGBT+ Rights Index (ILRI) is designed to be the ultimate LGBT+ rights assessment tool, addressing shortcomings of other indices developed in the past, as well as being the most thorough to date.
Contributors
Thank you to (in no particular order) Nacrad, Riviere Renard, Vivolkha, Gandoor, Thermodolia, Sky Citadel, Rhodevus, and Rho Ophiuchi - among others, for helping to shape the index as it stands today.
PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTINUING
The questions in this survey are best suited for nations with a "Modern Technology" standard. We classify this standard by any nation having their current timeline as between 2000 - 2030, with technology levels advanced up to 25 years above the current real-world standards. If your nation falls outside of these bounds, you are more than welcome to participate - however, your results may be inaccurate.
We would also like to inform you that this survey is intended for human nations only. We apologise for this but it is nigh on impossible to make an inclusive index for vary gender and sexual identities of different species.
PLEASE NOTE - WE CANNOT GUARANTEE FAST PROCESSING OF YOUR SUBMISSIONS. PLEASE BE PATIENT.
Index Outline
The questions nations are asked to answer are listed in the codebox below. Please note, you are free to refrain from answering as many questions as you'd like, but each question you answer reduces the likelihood of an accurate score being given to your nation. If you do not wish to answer a question, simply leave it blank.
Index Scoring System
Nations are given a score which ranges from 0 - 100, with zero granting the least rights and freedoms for LGBT+ people and 100 being a perfect score, indicating the highest possible levels of freedom, rights and acceptance accounted for. Please note that the scale below is wide and variable. For example, a nation which scores 69.9 is a far better place for LGBT+ people to live than a nation with a score of 50, but they share a bracket and therefore a classification.
Transformative (85 - 100)
Real world examples: Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Canada, Spain, New Zealand
Nations scoring in this range are usually very highly developed and free nations in which their LGBT+ citizens enjoy the world's highest tier of freedoms, rights, and societal acceptance. Same-sex marriage is legalised, LGBT+ representation is common in the media, and the right to transition is understood and respected by the Government and the majority of its people. Pride is celebrated free from widespread discrimination or legal recourse.
Supportive (70 - 84.9)
Real world examples: United Kingdom, Uruguay, Germany, Netherlands
Nations scoring in this range can be considered mostly good places for LGBT+ people to live, although they may not feature all of the freedoms found in the above category. Common examples of this may be restrictions regarding ease of access for hormone therapy, restrictions on same-sex adoption or the nation having a non-insignificant part of society holding onto negative stereotypes and/or attitudes about LGBT+ people.
Indifferent (50 - 69.9)
Real world examples: United States, Australia, Argentina, Israel
Nations scoring in this range can be considered free to a point. The populace and the Government don't necessarily try to stop LGBT+ people living their lives, but there is very little if any Governmental support for their freedoms. Governments and societies-at-large in these nations are also more likely to be fairly conservative and less accepting of those different to them.
Prohibitive (20 - 49.9)
Real world examples: Pakistan, China, South Africa, Russia, Poland
LGBT+ people within nations scoring in this range are simply not free. Citizens may not be allowed to outwardly present as their preferred sexuality or gender, and may have to hide same-sex or otherwise different relationships for fear of Governmental or societal reprisal.
Oppressive (0 - 19.9)
Real world examples: Iran, Saudi Arabia, Libya
LGBT+ people living in nations within this bracket are likely the victims of constant physical and verbal harrassment and attacks from members of the public and the Government at large. Prominent LGBT+ figures are likely disappeared either by the Government or by private citizens while the Police look the other way.
