Basic math and english are taught, but history is quietly twisted into pro-government propaganda. All schools are funded by taxpayer money and follow mostly the same curriculum.

Censorship In Schooling

Does your nation accurately represent and teach history? [Y]
Do your nation's schools censor things such as language, pictures, etc.? [] Only bad language, rude pics and the like.
Does your nation's government permit private schooling options? [Y]

Punishments In Schooling

Do your nation's schools punish students for conduct outside of school? [] Only if it has something to do with the school itself, or brings the school into disrepute, normally with one to six cane strikes on the hand or the bottom.
Do your nation's schools punish students for talking about international news? [] Only if it's done in class time.
Do your nation's schools punish students for speaking out against the government? [] It depends. Not normally, but school strikes/demonstrations are not allowed.

Monetary Policy In Schooling

Are your nation's schools funded by taxes (taxpayer money)? [Y] NOTE: It does not have to ONLY be taxes, it can be taxes and fundraising for example
Does your nation's government guarantee and provide free education to all children? [Y] and to a point, adults as well.

Do your nation's schools have ID cards? [N]

Equality In Schooling

Does your nation's government guarantee equal opportunity and access to schooling? [Y] But until a few years ago racism towards black humans was very common. Sapient ponies have never faced much racism and changelings are either hive-schooled or attend in disguise.
Do your nation's schools punish more of a certain group or groups than others, or hand out harsher or lesser punishments? (This means stuff such as punishing a minority group more than a majority group) [Y] Although racism is now banned, some of it towards black humans still lingers in some schools.
Do your nation's schools allow non-citizens to participate? [Y]

Additional Information The cane is used for most school punishments. School rewards are-more time at break, praise, and medals for the very best students.

Security Policy In Schooling

Are your nation's schools permitted to form their own police department? [Y*]
*While the are legally permitted to do so, the city's police are so corrupt that they would probably either subsume or expel the new police department for "infringing on their turf."
Are your nation's schools secured via methods such as metal detectors, pat downs, etc.? [N]
Do your nation's schools have ID cards? [N]

Equality In Schooling

Does your nation's government guarantee equal opportunity and access to schooling? [Y*]
*Only for primary and secondary education, and if the children continue to want to get educated. There are high drop-out rates among the poor.
Do your nation's schools punish more of a certain group or groups than others, or hand out harsher or lesser punishments? (This means stuff such as punishing a minority group more than a majority group) [Y*]
*Generally, upper-class students are not punished as harshly as middle-class students, with lower-class students being punished the most. This is largely due to the political influence of parents.
Do your nation's schools allow non-citizens to participate? [Y*]
*Anyone inside Rho Ohpiuchian borders is garunteed citizenship. One can ignore this or use it.

Additional Information

The Carminian population is highly educated, scoring well in global indexes of literacy, numeracy, and scientific understanding. More than 60% of children follow up their mandatory education with higher education, at one of the world-renowned institutions based in the country, such as Amaranth Academy.

Public education represents one of the few areas of significant public spending in Carmini, besides the military and police forces. This began in the 1950s during the Carminian Enlightenment, when it became apparent that the country needed an educated populace to compete successfully in the modern world - particularly as heavy industry and significant agriculture could not be supported on the small, crowded island.

As such, public education is available for free to all Carminians from the ages of 5 to 18, with bursaries available to less affluent families for further education. Given the affluent nature of much of the population in the present day, however, many choose to send their children to private schools, or recruit private tutors.

The curriculum for primary (ages 5 to 11) and secondary (ages 12 to 18) school children is the responsibility of the Council of Regents, under the supervision of the monarchy. They have established the Board of Education for this purpose, which reviews the latest schooling techniques and knowledge bases to establish an evidence-based teaching method. This is reviewed bi-annually, and adjustments made accordingly. The result is a robust, efficient, and generally high-quality scholastic system. Mathematics, literature, the sciences, physical education, religious education (learning about other faiths objectively, rather than indoctrinating students into faiths), geography, history, and at least one foreign language are all required subjects for Carminian students.
