Do you enjoy Classical Music?

Postby Orlesian States » Thu Jun 09, 2022 5:17 am

Lately I've been listening to a lot of Évariste Lacroix, a very talented pianist whose melodic tunes make me feel nice whenever I listen to them.
Especially Les Couleurs du Ciel, it's such a good piece.

When I am in a "fancy" restaurant or an elevator, a background classical music is always nice. However, listening to it for a long time can bore me off.

Entirely understandable! I really like it, myself, but I think I'm biased cause I play classical music, aha

Not being too judgmental, but you know what they say? Those who are into classical music are usually gentle and patient individuals.

I try my best to be as patient as possible, being mad just isn't in my nature, honestly, and I also like being gentle, mostly with animals as I'm shy with people, but I try to be kind at least :)

I’m a big fan of 20th century and modern composition. Steven Reich, Gorecki, Argo Part, Phillip Glass. I really like the Kronos Quartet because they play new works.

Mahler I tend to like. Actual classical in the literal sense, the classical era (Mozart and his contemporaries) I’m kind of meh on but romantic and impressionistic that followed I dig. I like Chopin.

There’s a bit of a blender artist I like, Uri Caine. He does these kind of world avante garde jazz takes on classical pieces.

Classical music isn't my favorite, because I love lyrics (in my opinion, lyrics make or break a song). However, I have great respect for the genre, being that these people dedicate YEARS of their lives until they have the ultimate mastery of their instruments. I don't think I could ever play a piano or compose a symphony. So, I'm not going to listen to it, but I'm glad to know it's out there.

I actually like classical music. It's not my go-to genre, but Chopin (Winter Wind and the One Million Special) and Beethoven (the 1st and 3rd movements of the Moonlight Sonata are wonderful) are still fine choices. I do prefer my music to have lyrics, but there's something peaceful about a good instrumental.

It's fine I guess: the WNET 13 sign-offs had me interested in a version of Rêverie by Claude Debussy.

I used to play classical on violin so I grew tired of listening to it. I still listen to it though when I study and stuff.

No. Whenever I hear classical music, I think to myself, there's something better to be heard. The same goes for a lot of other music, though...

I like some of the classical scores in the film Master and Commander: Far Side of the World which happens to be one of my favorite movies. Whenever I watch it I tend to listen to them afterwards for a bit.

It depends on what else I'm doing. If I'm writing scripts or doing my work some classical music can be nice but for almost everything else I'd rather listen to some punk.

As a band geek, I love the classical music tradition. Recently, I've been listening to Bach, Mozart, Mahler, Debussy, and Rimsky-Korsakov. Rolled into that, I quite enjoy soundtracks, which tend to borrow a lot from the tradition.

Yes. As a matter of fact, if you were to let me have the car radio here in Manila, I would go straight to the only FM radio in the country that plays classical music.

My tastes are varied in general, though; in addition to the usual suspects--Mozart and Beethoven--I have stored in my computer gems from Vivaldi, Tchaikovsky, and Rimsky-Korsakov.

Ones that doesn't have a very slow tempo, yes. Often times when classical music / band / instruments are involved, it's almost always some military march from centuries ago with me.

Not really. I don't like the fact that most "Classical" music (1600 - 1900) doesn't have a constant percussion denoting the beat. I guess I only really like music that has a beat that you can hear and not something that the other instruments basically have to dance around and only allude to the beat in the melody.

Sorry I don't have the proper music theory vocabulary to describe this, I've only ever took a single music appreciation class in high school, and one fusion poetry-music elective in university.
