Hello!

Welcome to the WorldVision Song Contest, based on the Eurovision Song Contest, aiming to provide and unite nations from different parts of the World through music. The WorldVision Song contest is an outlet to showcase the popular or native music of your nation. As with every contest, there are a few simple rules and regulations that you'll need to follow. If you're new, continue on to the FAQ/Guide To WorldVision! If you are simply looking for the rules, look no further than the box below:

How It Works

  • Each nation will rank the other nations out of 10. Each number below 4 adds a scaled negative score whereas each number above 4 adds a scaled positive score (4 provides a neutral value). The complete score of each nation will be the total sum of the positive and negative scores. At this point, any nation with a negative score or 0 will be considered to have 0 televote points (only the bottom few nations might receive this). The rest of the nations with a positive score will have this score then multiplied until the total scores are equal to the amount of points distributed through the points on the IC thread (this from now is the IC "Juries").
  • This multiplied number will then be the televote score for each nation.
  • Unlike in the test-run, the committee will assume responsibility for the televote, that is its recording and maintenance. This info will be given to the host when all nations have voted on the IC thread or when the deadline passes. This will allow the vote to not be influenced by the host, and to make sure the formula used is accurate.
  • The committee will also be responsible for publishing the complete voting result overview at the end of the voting, including the individual votes of nations, as well as the overall voting breakdown.
  • If the percentage of nations receiving 0 points in the televote exceeds 10% of the total competing nations that edition, the committee will reserve the right to change these percentages so that the percentage of nations receiving 0 points falls under 10% once again, as long as the nation's raw televote score is above -10. In this case, weightings changes will be done so that it does not affect any position in the top 3.
  • The host will be free to announce these results how they see fit, with the committee's strong recommendation to reveal them in the style of either of lowest to highest in the televote, or according to current standings after the jury vote.
  • In the event of a tie, the jury vote takes precedence.

Televote Instructions

  • In addition to the standard 12-1 points that we all post on the IC thread (which remains the same) there will also be an additional requirement. Each contestant must also submit a response to a google form in which they will rate each song from 1-10 (out of a maximum of 10) - with 1 to a song which they hated and 10 to a song they loved (and everything in between).
  • There are no restrictions on televoting - You can allocate scores in the televote however you wish, and you do not need this to be the same metric by which you measure your "jury" scores. Some suggestions may be to split your scores according to the Music/Lyrics/RP etc., but this is optional. We will still check for invalid votes, for example every nation being ranked the same, or in a specific "pattern", but this won't be an issue if one votes fairly.
  • You can give your puppet a maximum of 6 out of 10 in the televote and vice-versa to the main nation. If you have a puppet you will have to submit a second set of televoting points - however, you can submit a single set of points and include the ranking for both your main nation and puppet nation in the same form. You must inform the committee if you wish to do this in advance.
  • If you do not submit a televote, you will receive a 25% penalty on your original televote score (which will then be redistributed among the rest of the nations according to their televoting score). It is strongly recommended that you submit a televote score, but if you don't submit one, you don't have to worry about being disqualified.

As it was introduced prior to the start of '79, the same strike system for punishments will be in effect, where players breaking certain contest rules will receive strikes depending on the severity.

    • One Strike: No immediate consequences;
    • Two Strikes: One-contest ban;
    • Three Strikes: Two-contest ban.
  • Strikes expire after five editions; however, a strike expiring during a ban does not edit or shorten it.
  • Bans stack; that is, a nation reaching three strikes within one edition is immediately banned for the following three editions.
  • Bans erase strikes once they are completed.

Here are the following issues that can net you a strike:

    One strike:
    • Not voting in the contest (will also disqualify a contestant from competing)
    • Changing votes without Worldvision Committee supervision.
    • Posting halftime results when not the host or WVC & refusing to remove results (which also results in disqualification)
    • Posting an incomplete entry.
    • Not declaring a new puppet, or when transferring ownership of a puppet.

    Two strikes:
    • Engaging in tactical voting.
    • Intentionally refusing to vote.
    • Attempts to evade a ban.
    • Entering more than one puppet in the contest.

FAQ / Guide To WorldVision

I'm new here, how does this all work?

Welcome! Here at WorldVision, we write our own lyrics to existing songs, then vote on them! Many of us write performances and background information on the performer as well. This contest is based heavily on the Eurovision Song Contest, so it helps a lot if you're familiar with it! One major difference from it is that the winner doesn't host the next contest- here we have people bid each edition to host the next contest.

That sounds fun! How do I sign up?

Signing up is simple! You can fill out and post the application below, or simply state your interest in joining. If you do use the application, you don't need to fill everything in.

Code: Select all
Nation Name: Your nation's name goes here.
Official Broadcaster: Your official broadcaster for WV goes here.
Song Title: The IC Song title goes here.
Artist(s) Name(s): The name of your act goes here.

Tune: The real-life tune you're basing your song on goes here.

This is all so exciting! I want to host!

In order to host, you need to have fully participated once, especially to get the feel of how the contest runs. While you wait, you can look at current bids to learn how good bids look like. If you've signed up before host voting has begun, then you can vote for the host! Once you've finished a contest, you can bid for host, as long as you don't vote for your own.

How do I write an entry?

Writing an entry is just a bit more work than Alexander Rybak makes it seem. Most of us use an existing song as a tune, which we usually link through YouTube, and rewrite the lyrics so that they are original- which means that we wrote them ourselves and did not copy the real lyrics (at least 80% should be your own, which is generally easy if you write your own). Translating real lyrics does not count!

To do well, it's best to write a performance and choose a tune that hasn't been used before - don't be afraid to ask us if you're unsure! In addition, it's always good to look at past contests and learn from the winners and highest placed entries.

If you do post a reservation/placeholder post for your entry, please make sure that you finish it with a completed set of lyrics. If you don't finish, or if you don't withdraw on the OOC thread, you will receive a strike, which is explained in the spoiler below this section.

The entry deadline passed, and there's a mistake in my entry! Can't I just fix it?

Thanks to the recent implementation of the grace period, where Committee members review the entries for rulebreaking and quality, you have approximately 24 hours to fix up your entry and add extra RP. The main requirement is that your lyrics must be complete and your entry of at least passable quality at the time the Committee sets eyes upon it. If you are unsure if your entry meets expectations, please ask!

So what comes next? Voting?

Yes, that's right! After the grace period/entry review period ends, you cannot edit your entry without permission from the Committee. After the host opens voting, you may post your votes. Just like in Eurovision, you give 12 points to your favourite entry, then 10, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, and finally 1 point to your next favourite. Please vote on time!! The host may choose to close voting after the deadline, but if you do not vote on time you will be disqualified.

Next, you do the televote. Here, it means that you open the form that is linked by the host, and rank each entry from 1 to 10, with 1 being worst and 10 being best. Ever since the official implementation of the televote in WV83, everyone's televotes will be revealed by the Committee, so you can see the full breakdown after the contest ends. We use a weighting system to calculate the televotes - this will be changed at the discretion of the committee if the number of 0's exceeds 10% of participating nations (this will be done only for those nations with a score of above -10).

This sounds awesome! I want to enter a puppet nation and write more entries!

You can do that! You may enter a second nation, but make sure you confirm that it is yours in the signups! However with great power comes great responsibility: you can only give a maximum of 5 points to yourself in the jury vote, and only a maximum score of 6 in the televote, and together with your main nation you can only give a maximum of 14 jury points to another nation.

I do not feel safe or welcome here. What do I do?

If you are bullied, harassed, intimidated/etc by someone within the contest, please contact the Committee or one of its members, and we will ensure confidentiality and analyze the situation. We will deal with punishment as deemed appropriate depending on the severity of the offence.

I have more questions! Who do I ask?

If you have more questions you can ask in the thread, join the Discord server linked at the top of this post, or TG the WorldVision Committee. The Discord server is probably where you are going to get the fastest reply.

So basically, be original, try to be fair, don't be a jerk, and have fun. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to TG the Committee - it helps if you add the Committee's individual member names (Elejamie, Polkopia, Malta Comino Gozo, Antahbrantahstan, Todlichebujoku) in the "To:" box along with "WorldVision Committee" for a faster response. DM on Discord also works!

Even if you've missed the deadline or aren't participating, feel free to discuss the contest in this thread or post commentary in the IC. You'll find that we all greatly appreciate some good commentary.

With all that said, welcome to WorldVision!

For the fourth time in WorldVision history, the Junterapten Pre-Party is back as we celebrate the new decade and 81 editions of the WorldVision Song Contest!

Similarly to the last three times that the Junterapten Pre-Party took place, 14 participants will be heading over to the Junterapten Centre, which is an exhibition centre that will be transformed into a hub for all-things WorldVision. Split across two halls, the 14 participants will get a chance to perform in front of thousands of people in one hall (2.5k seats) while also getting interviewed in another hall (the rest of the seats) with the second hall having multiple events that people of any age can enjoy. Depending on demand, the number of participants could go up. We will also have past stars of the WorldVision Song Contest in attendance, including the winner of the 99th WorldVision Song Contest, Petre Lemetre.

We're excited to host such a huge event prior to the centenary edition of the WorldVision Song Contest! OOCly, there will be an RP for it on the 26th June (that weekend, day to be confirmed), in the evening BST.

The Junterapten Pre-Party is a great way to increase your backstory for the 100th WorldVision Song Contest and allow people to understand your artist better.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE
In order to confirm your delegation's participation, you have to DM Britonisea on Discord or send a TG to Britonisea by signing out this simple form. But before you do, please make sure that...
  • Your artist and song are both revealed publicly by 24th June 2022, 23:59 (British Summer Time)
  • You will be able to provide a large image of your participant for promotional purposes.
  • You will be able to provide a larger image of your flag than the size on your NS page.
  • You will be willing to RP interviews ahead of the posting of the Pre-Party + be interested in #nationstates-ic events that may happen (an event planned for 11th/12th or other dates April on discord maybe - would be fun!)

SIGN-UP FORM

If you're hosting a national final but would still like to participate, please note that in your application form (just as long as your winner is publicly announced before the 24th June as promotional content will need to be made!).
Code: Select all
Name of Act:
Song Name:
Song Release Date:

I have a right to reject any entries. At the moment, only one nation per user.

Finally, any past participants of WorldVision who came in the top five that would like to attend the Pre-Party, please add that to your application form too!

Also Britonisea signs up - Josh Morris - Nightmares.

Due to a growing lack of interest in taking part that has been going on for a long time (although there was a bit of interest from WVs 90-94 when I seemed to be doing really well for some reason) as well as a desire to move onto other things, I would like to announce that I will be quitting the WorldVision Song Contest after this edition and the special edition, at the very least with my main. I may or may not return, it all depends on whether or not there are any songs I'm desperate to do, but I wouldn't bet on it. And no, finally giving me a win won't make me stay on (it might get an Elejamie Story Time on the Discord though, as would another Placely last place). Speaking of, Placely Placington will still take part, however, although expect a gap or two in between entries so I don't burn myself out; in fact I'm confirming their participation here with their longest song to date. With that out of the way, let's get into who'll be my last representative:

Nation Name: Elejamie
Official Broadcaster: ETV ONE
Song Title: Fama
Artist(s) Name(s): Los Hermanos Bailarines

Tune: The Supermen Lovers - Starlight
Elejamie (English); Elejamia (Spanish); Elejam (Iyilim) - Denonym: Elejamian - Pronounced (English): Eh-leh-jah-meh

Yes. Also expect a non-emergency bid.

Nation Name: Placely Placington
Official Broadcaster: Wait, We Have A Broadcaster?
Song Title: WorldVision 100!
Artist(s) Name(s): Placely Placington (yes, the entire nation will take part)

Tune: Komar and Melamid and Dave Soldier - The Most Unwanted Song

WORLDVISION SONG CONTEST 100

MONTERRA, KALOSIA

OFFICIAL HOST BID

CO-BID BY KALOSIA & SCOTATROVA

[WATCH THE OFFICIAL BID VIDEO]

As the nation’s political and economic centre, Monterra (Monterë in Kalosian) is without a doubt the main hub of Kalosia; the gateway that connects the island to the world.

Monterra is no stranger to hosting international music events. For WorldVision alone, they’ve hosted the 22nd, 27th, 43rd, and 75th editions of the show. This is in addition to hosting the 26th and 52nd World Hit Festivals, among other events.

The host broadcaster will be Radiu-Televižio Kalosia, who is very highly experienced in hosting these kinds of events. Altogether, they organized the 22nd, 27th, 43rd, 50th, and 75th WorldVision Song Contests, as well as the 19th, 26th, 37th, 42nd, and 52nd World Hit Festivals - a total of 10 of these international song contests. Each of those brought unique challenges (we recall the in-studio hosting of the 52nd WHF), and we will build upon this experience to host possibly one of the best editions of the WorldVision Song Contest to date.

VENUE

RTVK believes that, for such an important milestone, it is necessary to go above and beyond. Therefore, the Monterra Concert Hall, the historic hall which has provided a home to the contest 3 times, has not been selected as the venue.

Instead, WorldVision 100 will be held in the Arenë Mediteranika. Located in the seaside Kostë Ženovesë municipality, it was built in 1998 and renovated in 2013. The venue mainly hosts basketball games, other indoor sports events, and concerts.

Image

It can hold up to 22,000 people for concerts, while sporting fixtures typically have a capacity of 15,000-17,000. For the WorldVision Song Contest, a targeted attendance of 20,220 people is planned, taking into consideration the planned layout for the event.

STAGE

The WorldVision stage has been designed to complement the optimistic and forward-looking feel of the overall show. Its placement will be more traditional, being at one end of the hall as opposed to the recently popular 360° stages which are placed in the middle of the venue.

Image

Image

The stage consists of two distant paths that come together and create an open space at the point in which the two converge. The flow of the design suggests that these two continue to move forward as one. Behind the stage is a giant 10 meter LED screen, which runs across from one end of the stage to the other. This screen is actually made up of 12 pillars, which can be individually rotated to reveal a lighting fixture. Although there is no catwalk, there is a satellite stage in the middle of the arena, which can be used for more intimate performances. The area behind the stage, between it and the screen, has an orchestra pit. Delegations are free to use the orchestra and bring their own conductor.

The stage will have all the features that have become the standard at the WorldVision Song Contest, including smoke and pyro effects as well as technology to allow for holographs and visual overlays. In front of the stage is a standing area, but at the request of delegations, a pathway can be made to allow artists to walk between the main and satellite stages during their performance.

THEME

"The show must go on!"

In the 1892 opera Pagliacci, the iconic piece Vesti la giubba conveys the message that, in face of adversity, the performance must continue. This cannot be more true at the WorldVision Song Contest, where in the past 15 years, we have seen precisely 2,721 entries performed. As the longest-running song contest in the NationStates multiverse, we intend to celebrate this milestone by acknowledging that the party does not end here. Here’s to many more editions of the contest — the show must go on!

BRANDING

Image

Visual identity
The visual identity of the 100th WorldVision Song Contest takes a futuristic, hopeful, and invigorating look. This sleek, minimalist, modern design will inform the artistic direction of all visual elements of the contest, from the logo, to the onscreen graphics, to the stage design, to the merchandise.

A selection of blue, purple, and red hues dominate the colour scheme, to be applied in an elegant but engaging manner.

Logo
The logo consists of precisely 100 concentric rings that have been artistically distorted in a dramatic way, with one end taking more of an elongated shape, representing the lengthy legacy of the contest, and the other end being more wide, reflecting on an openness to embrace what the future brings. Two colour gradients are applied to the logo; the inner rings are given a red fill while the outer rings are given a blue-purple gradient. This is done in a way that gives the appearance of a warped record disc, which was one of the first steps in the creation of the thriving music-scape that society enjoys today, of which WorldVision could not take place without.

The layout of the 100 concentric rings can also represent the ripples of soundwaves, as they are emitted from the WorldVision stage to a diverse range of audiences tuning in from the far reaches of the multiverse.

GREEN ROOM
After each act performs, they will be kindly escorted towards the green room, which will be located at the back of the hall, facing the stage. The artists will then enjoy the rest of the show from this designated area alongside their fellow contestants.

At the end of voting, the winning act will complete a victory parade as part of the show, as they make the promenade across the hall towards the stage to accept the award and present their entry one last time.

POSTCARD
The postcards for this edition are designed to be efficient yet remain elegant and meaningful. In it, the entry info (i.e. start number, performing nation, song title and artist) will be displayed on top of a background consisting of a colour gradient and a dynamic spiral formation, both reflecting the colours of the nation about to perform.

Image

The formation of the spirals are customised for each individual postcard, based on a special algorithm that takes into consideration the running order number of the entry.

THE TEAM
Thanks to the experience we have gained hosting past contests, the organizing team is highly skilled and has what it takes to host the biggest music show on earth.

The show will be co-directed by Filip Bartolomeó and Ǧorǧa Enriki. The two have directed various shows, including live TV productions and televised concerts. Bartolomeó was a member of the production team for the 50th and 75th WorldVision Song Contests. Enriki, meanwhile, is a newcomer to the WorldVision scene, although she was involved in the production of the 19th World Hit Festival. As a familiar face meets a fresh set of eyes, this combination, on top of their years of experience, is hoped to set the tone as the contest enters a new era.

The executive producers will be Andreá Raneri and Alfredu Tiver. Their production stint includes involvement in the 52nd World Hit Festival. Raneri’s career trajectory has always been close with the music industry, having previously produced music videos and concerts. Tiver, meanwhile, is experienced in live entertainment, including reality performing arts shows (such as talent competitions), He was involved in the production of the 27th and 50th WorldVisions as well. But don’t expect an outdated show; their portfolio outside of IBA productions show that they are committed to a state-of-the art WorldVision Song Contest.

Image

And the executive supervisor, the face of the WV100 organizing team, will be Alešandrë Kasini. Her repertoire includes several editions of the renowned national competition Festival dëla Kanžu Kalosianë, as well as the 42nd and 52nd World Hit Festivals. In the latter, she has particularly demonstrated her skill to overcome technical challenges through creative production solutions. She is no stranger to WorldVision either; she was on the organizing team for the 50th edition and was the executive producer for the 75th edition.

THE HOSTS
There will be two hosts:

Naómi Dionnë is no stranger to the world of international song festivals. She made her first appearance as one when she hosted the 19th World Hit Festival in 2015. More recently, she hosted the 52nd World Hit Festival. Although this will be her first time hosting the WorldVision Song Contest, she has provided Kalosian commentary for RTVK several times in the past. Based on this repertoire, alongside her robust domestic portfolio as a presenter, she is more than prepared to host this show.

She will be accompanied on stage by Eduárdu Orťiaga. Yes, he is a new and unfamiliar face in WorldVision circles, but that is by design. His snarky presenting style is sure to be refreshing and welcomed by the multiversal audience. Domestically, he is best known as the host of Afari Famiľari (Familiar Affairs), the Kalosian production of the popular game show Family Feud. Outside of TV entertainment, he also runs a podcast on the showbiz industry, with new episodes occurring semimonthly.

In addition, Magdalenë Ferer will serve as the green room host. She hosted the 42nd World Hit Festival as well as the 75th WorldVision Song Contest, the most recent WV to take place on Kalosian soil. She is known for her rather characteristically dramatic presenting style, which hopefully will translate to a colourful atmosphere in the green room.

LIVE BROADCAST
OOCly, for the first time in WorldVision Song Contest history, a full video broadcast of the contest will be aired live on Youtube, shortly after the conclusion of jury voting. This will also serve as the reveal of the televoting segment, which means that the final results of the 100th WorldVision Song Contest will be revealed through an exciting sequence that is sure to be one of the most memorable moments in WorldVision history.

A test run was held for the grand final of the 2022 Kalosian Song Festival, and although the format will largely remain the same for the multiversal show, the quality will be much higher considering the resources that have been allocated. Additionally, a scoreboard design is currently being trialled for the 2022 Ereide eu le Cançe Scotatrofine.
The creation of the video will also come at no additional cost to participants, as we will maximise the usage of available content (i.e. postcards, information already provided in each entry post, voting posts as regularly formatted by participants).
More details, such as the premiere date and time, will be coordinated and announced as we get closer to the end of the voting period.

Is that something you would want to see? Do you like the idea of celebrating the multiverse’s largest music event with us in Monterra, Kalosia?

We hope to see you vote for us when host bid voting opens on 20 June. Thank you for making it this far. We appreciate your support.

See you at the 100th WorldVision Song Contest in Monterra, Kalosia!

Confirming, and introducing a minimized MGP Anta selection:

Image

Melodi Grand Prix Anta, shortened as MGP, is one of the most celebrated musical event in Antahbrantahstan, other than WorldVision Song Contest itself, with a rich history spanning 45 years of editions, and catapulting singers, bands, and groups into household names, surely MGP is a much beloved event by many. This time, RR chose 12 entries out of the 2500+ entries being sent to the broadcaster to be voted on by the public and the international juries. Now, only 2 entries are standing here in the Crystal Final after being voted on by the Anturian public, now it's time for international juries to make their voices heard in this round. Those two lucky entries consists of:

Song 1. Christina Louis - Nuisance
